flash-all errors - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

OnePlus 8 [WINDOWS PC] here;
Trying to convert to global using a flash-all technique where it boots into fastbootd in the middle of installation.
It's supposed to detect the device and immediately resume the installation, but what happens is my phone is in the fastbootd menu with the 3 language selection whilst my terminal is stuck on "<waiting for any device...>"
If I reboot into recovery, nothing happens. If I reboot into normal fastboot, I get error messages such as "Command not found" and "Cannot flash to critical partitions!" Both of these result in me having to MSM.
Would this work any better if I ran it on a linux os? If not, what's the problem?

The problem is that you are trying to intervene in the process. Once you flash all you don't touch your phone until the welcome screen. Be patient and let it work it's magic. Should take about five minutes or so. Happy modding!

I've also tried without touching anything. The problem is that after it reboots into fastbootd, nothing happens, no matter how long I wait. It's stuck on "<waiting for any device...>"

Hmmmm... Very strange. I would suggest do the pieces over again. MSM back to TMO then take the OTA to current-unlock bootloader finally upgrade to global. My phone did the same thing. I place in bootloader where you have the start on the top then it boots to the 3 languages screen where it finishes the install. Now it did take a minute or so to start again but it finishes for me. I've done it several times. In fact, I just did it again around mid December. How this helps.

Still nothing. I've waited 10 or so minutes.

Ok last try here.
1. Use a different global file.
2. Use the orange usb cord that came with your phone.
3. Try a different usb plug in your computer or use another computer.
If that doesn't work then I suggest you check the troubleshooting info on the forum where you got the ROM.

You ever get it working past the fastbootd screen?
Is it as simple as just leaving it alone??

Same issue, and the only time it finished it went into crash dump mode.

Anyone found a solution to this? I have been struggling for hours.
I have done MSM 10.5.7 with flashall to 10.5.11, and MSM 10.5.22 with flashall to 10.5.12. It's always the same issue - reboot to fastboot and stuck there, the bat window just stuck at <waiting for any device>.
Please help

This must be due to drivers, try on a different PC.

Did you have to install other drivers than the one comes with the phone?

I am late to the table here, but the solution is to unplug the USB connection from your computer then plug it back in.
The script is waiting for the device to report itself back up, but there is some driver issue in Windoze that causes the device restart to not be detected. When you unplug/replug, the usb interface gets reset and everything happens.

stuck in bootloader device not recognized in adb

I was attempting to flash a factory image, and now am stuck in bootloader. I've attempted to flash the image via fastboot, but the terminal command gets stuck at waiting for device. I suspect something else is going on that is keeping me from communicating properly with the phone from the terminal commands but cant figure it out. I uninstalled and reinstalled adb/fastboot on my computer. When in terminal I am unable to find my device listed with adb devices command. This I think is the issue. How to do I get that to work?
Secure Boot is enabled Lock state is unlocked.
working with a mac
Also tried my wife's mac but nothing.

ADB works in recovery. Fastboot works in bootloader. Macs shouldn't need any drivers as far as I remember.
Enter bootloader and type:
fastboot devices

Yep that. Thanks man I haven't had my coffee yet.
no luck.
I get an error "could not get pipe properties"
I am at a loss since I can't get the phone to even be recognized by the computer. I just tried to reboot to recovery, and it shows me the twrp splash screen but then goes right to the opening google text with the unlocked padlock screen. Same as if I just try to boot the phone. I did have twrp flashed, but wanted a fresh start so I tried flashing in bootloader and got stuck.

I'm gonna assume your on TWRP 2.8.2.0 It's a known issue that some are having with it. Try plugging your phone into your comp before you boot to recovery and see if it stays in revovery. Also try a different usb cable and a different port on the comp to try and solve the pipe error.

Another brick?

Hello.
I did something wrong while trying to flash TWRP on my pixel 2, I am now stuck at the bootloader, and I cannot boot System or Recovery. While at the bootloader screen, it says Device State : unlocked. If I try to get to download mode, it says "ERROR: Operation Denied". If I try to go into recovery, it says "ERROR: Slot Unbootable: Load Error". If I try "Start", I get the same error message.
Also, adb or fastboot don't seem to be able to "see" the pixel connected to the computer. I believe my cables are good since I was able to flash Magisk and reflash the whole system with them before bricking it.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Just as a reference for anyone else who needs the fix and can't be bothered opening another thread.
SOLUTION: At the menu where it is stuck and saying device fail etc, plug in your usb cable to the mobile, press and hold the POWER button for 10 seconds, it will now recognise your phone under fastboot.
Once that is cleared, it's pretty much straightforward flashing latest pixel 2 image via fastboot and problem solved.
sidenote: Issue came with anyone who tried to flash december security updates and above as of what I heard.
I will try that, thanks.
So, several things :
Holding down the power button had no effect other than restarting the boot menu, but Fastboot never became available.
Opening up the phone and disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it made Fastboot available again. This would be in line with other users that let the phone battery discharge completely before regaining fastboot access.
Sidenote : opening up this phone is not for the faint of heart. I managed to damage something on the motherboard doing so (probably a static electricity discharge), the screen ended up displaying gibberish. I was able to salvage my phone by replacing the motherboard. I had ordered a replacement motherboard when I thought all was lost with no fastboot, and I had it on hand. Expensive little sucker...

Same thing happened to me except I never even tried to root. Just pulled the phone out of my pocket, and the little Android dude was belly up. It's showing device locked - and although I had it in Dev. mode from weeks back (thought USB Debugging was enabled) it fails to respond to adb commands, boot-loader mode, etc.
...Looks like Google laid an egg with this one.
Pixel 2 - "ERROR: Slot Unbootable: Load Error"
If you get the above error you will find that you cannot boot into recovery and the phone stays in the bootloader screen each time you try to start the phone. If your bootloader is unlocked you might be able to recover your phone to flash a stock image and revive. My problem started when I tried to restore a nandroid backup after trying out Android Q beta 1. I got the error mentioned above.
Most of the people recommended that I get a replacement from Google support as they had tried everything but it didn't work. Well right here in XDA Pixel 2 forum there is a solution waiting to be used. I am reproducing it from the post titled

A possible way to resurrect a bricked Pixel 2...
Hey guys, I have just been able to get mine alive. The device started to be recognized (USB/fastboot) after about 10 unsuccessful attempts to start the system: "Start", from bootloader.
So what exactly happened and what I did:
1. Bricked a Pixel 2.
2. It started into bootloader and showed the "slot unbootable" error.
3. The device was not recognized by any of my machines at all, lsusb did not show anything new in the system, and, respectively, fastboot did not see the device.
4. The default option in the bootloader is "Start" if I remember correctly. So I just pressed the power button and did not release it until I noticed a vibration. It were about 10 unsuccessful attempts of system loading before that vibration.
5. Right after that vibration I connected a generic (NONAME) USB-C <-> USB-A cable to both the device and my Linux machine, and fortunately the device was recognized by the system and fastboot was able to detect the device correctly. So I flashed the a factory image, and it went just fine.

Let me confirm that this works. I kept the power button down while the phone was connected via USB to the PC for at least 5 mins. During several reboots suddenly I got a beep from the PC which indicated that ADB was working. I flashed a stock image and voila the pixel 2 is back in operation.
Hope this helps several other people who might have this problem.

If the boot loader is locked look for a script for unlocking the bootloader from recovery or bootloader state. I did find it but cannot remember. My bootloader was unlocked so I did not have to use it.

OP7 Pro Fastboot Bootloop! [HELP]

This may be a simple solution, but I am completely puzzled on how to fix this.
SO i recently rooted my phone & used the twrp "twrp-3.3.1-4-guacamole". Installed magisk via that twrp and continued with my day.
I accidentally got a virus by trying to get a full free vpn, me being a terrible pirate, i accidentally got a virus! Silly me.
It was annoying me and I decided to factory reset my phone... not via twrp. I remembered after I clicked "Reset all" on oxygenos that it's not the way how to do it with a root device, and well.. it didn't exactly work.
Every time I power/reboot the phone it just brings me to the fastboot menu of "START", "POWER OFF", "RECOVERY MODE", & "RESTART BOOT LOADER". I thought since TWP is recovery mode I try to access that... no luck, it just brings me back to that fastboot menu. I tried going on CMD via adb by saying "fastboot flash boot twrp-3.3.1-4-guacamole.img". It will say it's finished and successful, but when i reboot and try to access recovery mode it just does not work.
TL;DR: Think I bricked my phone, there is no OS installed and I can only access the fastboot.
Any help? Much appreciated

Thank you for the guap recovery as i didn't know it existed. However, what are the steps? when i go on the MSM download tool it doesn't detect my phone.
that being said, i can't access any of my files through my pc using fast boot. on MSM it's just saying "waiting for device" even when plugged in so thats annoying.

I downloaded the one you sent, and after a while as my internet is bad. It still does not work.
Whenever I try to install the qualcomm drivers it never shows up, and when i try and boot it up so the gual recover detects my phone it never works. It's still saying "waiting for device".
Does anyone know how to fix this? it's doing my head in that it's not as easy as it should be.

Pretty sure that your phone will not be accessible via adb/fastboot during the msm process. Did you follow the directions in the link above to a T?
A few things to note:
- Works perfectly fine for unbricking GM1917 modeled OnePlus 7 Pros.
- Use the original cable and try to plug it into a USB 2.0 port. I've found that this is the most ideal condition.
- Make sure your device is charged up. If you can't see how much charge it has, leave it charged via the 30W warp charger for 40 minutes and that should be good enough.
- In the L2 drivers folder found in the archive, navigate to the 32 or 64 folder depending on your system's architecture, and click on the file that ends in the extension ".cat". Then, click "view signature", then "View certificate", then "Install." This is IMPORTANT.
- Then, make sure your device is powered OFF, then, plug in the USB-A side of the cable (big head) into your computer and do NOT connect the USB-C (small head) into your phone yet.
- Hold down Volume up AND volume down for five seconds, and while you're continuing to hold, plug the USB-C side into your phone. The drivers should automatically download, and you should see a "Qualcomm QD loader" device in Device Manager. If you see an exclamation mark or you don't see this, you are doing it wrong and you need to repeat the above steps.
- Open up MSMTool.exe as an administrator and click 'start' only. Should take a few minutes, but you will have a good-as-new OnePlus 7 Pro.

It's one of those things where if someone was there with you, it'd likely get figured out. I've seen this kind of situation hundreds of times on XDA, and with all due respect, the problem is most always at the hands of the user. These phones are cookie cutter made, so there's nothing different (besides individual variants) that would make thee tools not function correctly, unless it's operator error. But that's not set in stone. Just don't give up. Try setting up your camera for an overhead view. I couldn't tell if you were plugging in your cord. And it seemed to reboot, instead of power off. Repeat the steps carefully, and see if you can achieve better results.
Don't give up! We're here for you ?
Make sure phone is powered off before plugging it in. Launch msm tool, Press the vol up and down key for a few seconds then plug in.
Edit : make sure your drivers are up to date too.
I don't know about msm tools never tried it but I know your situation.
Don't do fastboot flash boot twrp-3.3.1-4-guacamole.img
Remove the word flash. You are supposed to boot into twrp then flash the zip file to the phone.
look at this
Command in Fastboot mode is:
Fastboot boot "name of the recovery".img. Phone should boot to twrp. Then flash twrp.zip
or try Fastboot roms:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
Choose the one for youre phone (region)
MSM tool it's the last option.
Can't you just switch slots from fastboot or did you mess up both?

If i'm honest with you.. i'm not sure in the slightest. My only assumption is no because the only thing I can access is only the fastboot. if i attempt to go into recovery mode it will go back to fastboot. when I flash twrp it will flash but it won't boot into it. It's confusing as hell.
Just to add to this whole situation:
Since I have no idea and just wanted it fixed in the day; i was willingly to give money for this phone to be fixed, but thanks to the person, he just made it a slower process by doing things i've already done.. going to pick the phone back up in an hour of this message.
I haven't used the fastboot boot twrp cmd yet, but from how everything else has been so far i feel like that won't work, but i will update everyone on that situation.
Just to add additional things that I may have not mentioned in the past will be below:
- Whenever i type in "ADB Devices" in cmd, it will not show up with anything. However, when I type in "fastboot devices" it shows it's serial and in "fastboot". It will only show as fastboot and i can't access the phone via file explorer in windows.
When i say "ADB Devices" it says *devices attached* and will show none of my phones details, but when i say fastboot devices it will then show the devices.
^ what i said above means I can't use the guap recover, or anything which means the phone has to be detected in windows, because other than fastboot, it won't work at all.
- So far I can't access twrp as a whole, so if anyone knows how to give me a guide on how to install it from where I am at, that would be amazing (if not, i'll try and reiterate what to do with the one given from a previous comment, so thank you )
- There was one time I was allowed in TWRP but i completely forgot how i entered it (so i can't explain), So i feel like there is hope in that aspect. I feel like i entered something via cmd so maybe there's a way?
In terms of hardware my phone is completely fine, there's not a single problem other than the software being a pain in the ***!!
if anyone can just spew out a bunch of help in different explanations it means the world because so far all I can see is that I wasted about £600 on an amazing phone because of dumb *** haha.
Thank you to everyone who has helped, and is helping
From your comments, you are not familiar with how Android functions. Not knowing the difference between adb and fastboot is an indicator that you should just endeavour to have a stock phone until you understand whats going one. It's also hard for people to help as no one has hands on and can see what is broken. Everyone here will be working blind like trying to fix your car for you from across the country.
Start the phone into fastboot and connect it to a pc. From a pc command prompt in your fastboot directory enter the command:
fastboot getvar current-slot
If the current slot is A then:
fastboot --set_active=b
or vice versa
fastboot --set_active=a
then fastboot reboot and see if you boot into the other slot.
Not knowing what phone you have makes it even tougher but I suspect you will have to reflash a clean complete rom via fastboot.

I do appreciate the help. If i'm honest with you the only reason I did this is to increase my data speeds (which from look of things is outdated now), and a longer battery life. I don't know much about rooting/jailbreaking but believe me that I have been in the scene for years, but not even knowing everything haha!
that being said.. i'm in twrp! thank you so much mate, i'll try and go and install the rom now. thank you!
Now install the zip twrp
Thankfully.. IT'S FIXED!
I didn't have to install twrp again or any of that. I simply changed the slot from A to B and pressed all buttons when it was showing the "! Your decide is unlocked" orange/black screen.
I had msm tools up and it detected and instantly installed the OS to the latest one and boom. It works again!
I got to thank everyone for helping me because without you people I wouldn't of been able to fix it. I looked everywhere and no help anywhere as I feel like it's pretty dumb to do what I did haha!
Thank you again people!
Oh you gave up on root?
You are supposed to read the instructions and follow them to the letter. When I read your post I realized you tried to install twrp like you would pre Oreo but it changed you have to boot into twrp then install it via zip file.
Anyways just remember that for next time.

OnePlus 7 Pro wont boot after i flashed wrong image

UPDATE: I've unbricked my phone! I used MSM Tool for OnePlus 7 Pro.
Here is a link to the video that saved my phone:
=====================================
Today i installed Android 10 Public Beta on my OnePlus 7 pro. It was great, i liked it. But i noticed i didn't have root. So i tried rooting it by flashing twrp.
Now this is where i fqed up. I flashed a TWRP image to boot. So i tried to boot into TWRP, but it just loaded back into fastboot. So i got myself stuck. But there is more.
I then wanted to give up and go back, but i couldn't find a OnePlus 7 pro stock boot image for Android 10. So i tried installing the latest version, and i thought it worked.
Now when i boot up my phone, it does the boot animation, but crashes in the process and turns off (Or i think so, the screen goes black). I for some reason can't access fastboot anymore. And i can't access the phone through adb. Windows makes a device connected sound, but doesn't show up anywhere.
Someone please help, what to do?

Use the MSM tool. That should sort you out.

You probably still have fastboot just not hitting the right buttons. Hold volume up and down and power untill you see fastboot mode. When you get there run fastboot -w (it will wipe your device) and see if it will boot then.

LMV600AM Restore/Ugrade Guide

This restore process is intended for the AT&T V60 (lmv600am) model and will WIPE your data so back it up if you want to keep it!
This process will restore the lmv600am to original factory state for the AT&T v60 v20q build (a11). I’ve dumped all the required partitions from a new replacement phone sent to me by LG. This process uses the Qfil utility and assumes you already have a working knowledge of Qfil and that you have already installed it on your Windows PC. If you don’t have that knowledge start reading. The internet is full of Qfil guides.
You can’t damage or fix your existing imei relevant partitions from this restore because they aren’t included in this download.
You are responsible for backing up your existing phone partitions. I’m not liable for you using my work product and you do so at your own risk. If you’re unsure of what you’re doing then read more about Qfil and what is does. Again, if you are a newby go slow. Taking your time will save you a lot of aggravation.
This process will not fix your erased or damage imei number problem. There are process out there but they are usually reserved for people with an expert level of knowledge on the subject.
This guide is for anyone who’s presently unable to boot or who just can’t access AT&T ota services and wishes to upgrade their lmv600am to a newer a11 build. I have only tried this when my phone was already on an Android 11 rom. That’s not to say it won’t work coming from a Android 10 rom but I haven’t tried it.
This process will not fix your erased or damage imei number problem.
Steps
Download “Lmv600am v20q Restore Partitions.7z” file from ??? and unzip. Remember the unzipped restore directory path.
Plug your phone into PC with USB cable and put you phone in EDL (9008) mode. Again, there are guides on how to do this everywhere.
Start Qfil and select the port of your phone’ connection. (See Windows device manager)
Select the v60 firehose (.elf) which is included in the unzipped directory.
Select storage type = ulf which is located at the bottom right of the Qfil dialog screen. I’m using Qfil 2.0.3.5 version.
Next click on the “load XML” button and group select “rawprogram0” thru “rawprogram6” which are also in the unzipped directory, then hit OK. Next it will ask for the Patch0.xml file, hit cancel as we’re not patching anything.
Wait a few seconds and then click on the “Download” button. Qfil will now resolve all the names of the partitions to be restore and then start the download process to the phone.
When complete phone reboots as I recall.
try first time, stuck at 88%, show a error
try second time, stuck at 55% for a whole night, no error
after, stuck at a random percent every time, no error
att a11 already crossflashed to EA
Why super.bin so big? 20GB stucking at flashing super every time

My guess is your pc went to sleep. Other suggestions; change usb port... change cable... change PC. This procedure has been used by myself and others multiple times without failure. Qfil does nothing more than a simple read partition / write partition. There's no magic.

The size of the super.bin (partitions system_a and system_b) is what it is. It's not like you have a choice. Hopefully, you do realize you're restoring both sides of the phone, slot a/slot b.

Everything is changed, but the problem is the same, just stucked, progress no move forward, no error message , is the configuaration setting's problem? I am using the same configuaration with the crossflash guide
Finally figured out where the problem is , after upate qpst to the latest one, everything just ok now, thanks for your sharing and help

You're welcome.
sorry for my mistake, not update , it is downgrade to 2.0.2.3, with 2.0.3.5 showing zero disk reading of qfil progress in the task manager, with 2.0.2.3 you can see qfil reading data from disk from computer , i don't know if it is bug or just a showing problem.
report one issue, cann't boot when changed to slot_a
did this. boots as cricket wireless and is just doing nothing but booting with the giant smiley face logo.
is there another step I need to do? Im surprised to see cricket and not ATT

If you're seeing any boot logo and then getting stuck it usually means that the phone is trying to get to userdata. This restore does not include userdata for obvious reasons. My guess is you needs to reformat/wipe userdata.
The easiest way is probably by entering restore mode and selecting "reset to factory" which both reformats and wipes userdata.
As for the cricket logo, no telling where that's coming from or where your phone's been. But as per the Op description, these are 100% AT&T a11 v20q partitions.
phone wont get into the android boot screen for wiping cache/userdata/etc. kinda odd...
something tells me I need to write something additional. because my ATT model was crossflashed to the EU firmware
to bypass the fingerprint bug. however, they are shutting off 3G networks on the 22nd so cant keep using.
anyone else have any idea what I need to do?
Dude.... you don't need to be at boot screen whatever that is. You need to put your phone in recovery mode. Hold -vol and pwr until phone start to boot..... then release. Immediately press/hold +vol to put phone in recovery mode. Then select fastory reset which will rebuild (reformat/wipe) userdata . There are lots of guides on how to put a v60 into recovery mode.
If you can't get into recovery then put phone into edl mode (9008), start gfil and load the eng abl img to both abl_a and abl_b. Then restart phone and put it into fastboot mode, again guides all over internet on how to get to fastboot mode. From there try "fastboot -w" command from cmd prompt using adb/fastboot tools. If that doesn't work it has to be done from recovery mode.
Be sure you have all the proper drivers. For example when going into fastboot mode you will mostly likey have to manually load the adb bootloader driver so fastboot commands can access you phone.

all done. loaded eng abl. erased userdata in fastboot. still is on cricket startup screen and just stays there booting forever
does yours say "cricket wireless" when booting? so odd how this thing is behaving
got it finally to boot by resetting phone within recovery. fastboot -w command didnt do it. Now Im getting some type
of NT error that something doesnt match. but phone is working.
thanks!
Did you follow the steps, recovery mode and factory reset? Did it complete?

what to write to the phone to get proper version back. I do have the old backup. just need to figure out how we
