Zenfone 6 [I01WD] -- If Unlocked, Can It Be ' Relock ' After Service Firmware Install ? - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

Question:
- If Zenfone 6 is unlocked, can it be 'relocked' again ever via full service firmware flashing / install ?
- If serial numbers are submitted to Asus, does this mean phone can never participate in any firmware updates?
- will Google Pay ever work, if the Zenfone 6 can be 'relocked', via service firmware formatting/update ?
( basically, I am asking whether flashing/installing the service firmware, brings the phone back to original/factory settings ?
would Google Pay still work, but OTA firmware updates will never work because ASUS blacklisted the serial number of the phone ? )
Background:
I have a Zenfone 6 phone, whose bootloader has not been unlocked.
I read that this phone cannot be unlocked using fastboot methods,
and the bootloader can only be unlocked with the official Asus unlock tool
Asus Zenfone 6 - UnlockTool_9.2.0.0 (10 AUG 2020)

The Asus unlock tool, sends the phone's serial number to Asus servers,
before giving permission to proceed with the unlock.
Unlocking the bootloader officially means:
- phone does not have warranty anymore
- phone cannot receive OTA firmware updates (but firmware updates can still be performed via SD card, etc.)

i think i found the answer to relocking the bootloader.
( however, the phone will be blocked from receiving all future OTA updates from ASUS,
because the phone's IMEI / Serial Number will be blacklisted by ASUS and all warranty will be voided )
Code:
fastboot oem asus-back
fastboot reboot (if it doesn't reboot on it's own)

If I unlock the Bootloader. WIll I have still warrenty on my phone?

Thnaks:good:
Technically, no.
But on the other hand you can lock it again by flashing a stock rom using:

2. Firmware Finder
3. Funky (Paid "service")
I'm not sure if Huawei can check if you unlocked bootloader, then locked it again using an official firmware update.
but when I unlock the Bootloader I do it on huawei site, right? So they know I unlocked my phone.
I understood I need unlock here:

You only request an unlock code, it doesn't mean you'll use it.
However,
"The user shall be held responsible in the event that the device malfunctions and cannot be recovered. Huawei will record your unlock request information; for software and hardware failures arising as a result of unlocking the bootloader, Huawei repair centers can provide repair services charged at the standard rate for repair work outside the scope of the warranty."
I guess it could mean that just requesting the code means your warranty is void.
Thank you very much for explain
Just attached to the previcous post : Huawei CAN´T Check if the bootloader was opened when its relocked again by stock firmware : Just a few Minutes ago i received my phone from Service Center. Had to switch the display ( Warrantycase ). They repaired it without asking questions.

I need put him some where in the phone?
You need to unlock the Phone via fastboot oem unlock 1a2B3etc***(Code)

So i received a american pixel 4 xl with a locked bootloader. imei starting with 35
i was able to unlock the bootloader here is the steps i took, note im in Australia.
Full OTA Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices | Google Play services | Google for Developers
developers.google.com
the firmware on the device was american,
i flashed my countrys firmware (australian) optus/telstra/vodaphone etc
use adb side load *firmware.zip*
factory reset , booted device on with australian sim,
and boom oem was available ,
(last step is to adb reboot bootloader,
and ./fastboot flashing unlock and you will see a message on pixel.
intially with the Original firmware on the device it would not unlock.. i tried factory reset
/ fastboot flashing unlock etc and it would not work...
anyhoo i have not seen anything on here suggested flashing another firmware origin so i thought this might help those with locked at&t / verison carriers, intially it was GREYED OUT AND SAID contact carrier or connect to the internet.

The firmware does not determine whether the bootloader is unlockable.
When the device connects to the Internet, it checks its IMEI against a whitelist on Google's servers. If it has been authorized for bootloader unlock, OEM Unlocking will become available.
If it doesn't, it's likely that you have a locked variant.

What if it is already unlocked and I want to relock it? I flashed stock firmware, the bootloader is still unlocked but now I can't lock it again because the option is greyed out.

The OEM Unlocking toggle does not lock or unlock the bootloader itself. It simply allows you to unlock the bootloader when enabled.
If you want to relock your bootloader, you do this via ADB while in bootloader mode: fastboot flashing lock

For some reason I couldn't get into fastboot mode, "adb reboot bootloader" would just restart my device. If I booted into recovery, the "reboot into bootloader" option would just start up the phone. But I eventually found out I can lock the bootloader in download mode

Help on Zenfone 7 pro

Hello all, I bought a Zenfone 7pro, after several days test, there is no problem with functionality, including update the system by ota which I downloaded from official website, but I can’t use ausu tool to unlock the bootloader, I tried android 10, 11 and 12 somes, this is always pop up with code 11003 that I recognized there should be something wrong, then I checked series number, that is too long seems abnormal, and checked IEMI, both numbers are showed 0, do you guys have any idea for this kind of situation?
To unlock bootloader, network connection is mandatory.
Because to unlock device, need to inform serial number of device to asus DB.
Additionaly, there is not a way to be relock after unlocking bootloader once.

Question How to unlock a re-locked Asus Rog Phone 5s?

Hi,
I have unlocked my rog 5s using official app.
I did some playing with roms and installed official firmware by flashing RAW firmware.
I have locked the device using below command.
fastboot oem asus-lock
Now that my phone is in unlocked Rog phone list, I am not getting any updates nor Asus Unlock app is working.
I want to unlock my phone again and install some GSI roms as I officially don't get any updates from ASUS.
Any help is appreciated........
Maybe by changing the device rom and fingerprint back to Chinese version and hoping that the unlock tool will pick it up as a good match - Guess being that your phone is a CH>WW convert and not an original Global/WW version from factory.
Re-locking converted devices is a bad idea. It's posted and warned about so many times in this forum by other CN device owners...

Question How to root rog 7

I executed some commands, but root did not succeed
fastboot flash boot /path/to/magisk_patched_[random_strings].img
fastboot flash vbmeta --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta.img
I also couldn't achieve root.
I submitted a bug report on github.
IIRC patching init_boot.img is required for A13 devices (not boot.img as it was previously)
Did not succeed
and yes, I tried twice unlocking with the Asus unlock app

It literally tells you that device is locked. Do you get "g.co/ABH" screen during powering on the device?
If so, try in fastbootd ("adb reboot fastboot" or "fastboot reboot fastboot")
That worked
fastboot mode did the trick
Thank you!
download firmware from Asus
unpack the payload with payload-dumper
copy init_boot.img to phone
patch init_boot.img in magisk
copy magisk_patched.img back to PC
reboot phone to fastboot mode (adb reboot fastboot)
flash patched img: fastboot.exe flash init_boot magisk_patched.img
profit!

FYI I believe the ASUS bootloader unlocking server is currently down / malfunctioning and haven't gotten a good answer from their technical support. I'm currently receiving the same error and here are some links to forums posts experiencing the same behavior.

After doing some research I understand that on the Tencent Version of the phone the sellers unlock and relock Bootloader after changing from CC to WW so they mess up bootloader.
It seems that the only way of unlocking the bootloader is using EDL, which I'm scared to use b/c I don't want to brick my new Rog phone 7 -_-
Can someone with the global version verify that using the unlock tool Asus provides works on their device?

I'm also hoping to get some confirmation because I'm experiencing issues with the Unlock Tool on the zenfone 9, not the ROG phone so I don't think the issue you mentioned above applies in that case. Maybe there's multiple variables but I believe the asus servers are down until someone says that the Unlock Tool is working for them.

My previous phone was the Zenfone 9, and I unlocked it using the Asus unlock tool that is provided on their website and successfully rooted it.
Are there several editions to the Zenfone like the Rog or is there only a global version?
if there's only a global version that probably means their servers are down.

I've previously had success on the zenfone 9 as well, its only as recent as this week that the bootloader unlock tool is not working. ASUS support has responded saying their servers "were down for maintenance and to try again" but nothing has been fixed up to this point. I'm not sure if it's broken for everyone currently and if they've purposefully disabled it or it's just malfunctioning.

Yep,
Hope that the bootloader can be unlocked on the tencent version once the servers are back up.
Certainly will work with the zenfone 9.
hi anyone need to root his rog phone 7 pleass send me on telegram @aborem89
Converted CN>WW devices will not pass validation on the ASUS servers because the device region fingerprint has been changed and doesn't match. Only known way short off trying through EDL methods is to do a full reverse to CN and try to unlock before converting to WW again. This has been the case with all the previous ROG devices (and probably Zen models too) that I know of...
Can anyone make a step by step video on how to change the rom from cn - ww(global) thank-you
20 days later, the Asus unlocking server is still down and Asus didnt answered or told us anything. Does anyone have any new updates from Asus,or someone that works at Asus, maybe you can answer us here. Im starting to get tired of keep trying every few hours to unlock it and get the same error over and over,I need root acces.
