XQ-AS62 Anyone from US tried flashing other region Firmware to Check if we get 5G support? - Sony Xperia 5 II Questions & Answers

Basically I wanted to know if someone has changed firmware on US based model to some other region and got 5G option working or not. Currently I am happy with 4G only but as T Mobile supports 5G would be nice to get 5G option.

The Xperia 5 II hardware does not support any of the bands used for 5G in the US currently. International firmware may enable 5G on the hardware, but you will not receive a 5G signal anywhere in the US. This is why Sony disabled 5G on the US model and marketed it as a 4G device.

I thought Snapdragon 865 already have 5G support inbuilt and Sony just disabled it for US variant.
Do phone need separate hardware to support specific bands?
Edit: Ah! Got it now that T Mobile's supported bands are not event part of what Global variant support.
But my other question still remains,XQ-AS62 don't have 5G on hardware or it's just software that is disabling it?

Mate I and the rest of Australia can't even get 5G on a Sony Xperia 5 ii or 1 ii handset and these models are 5G enabled.
Sony have stuffed up 5G support somehow. Lots of worldwide reports and no solutions so far.
Annoying as hell.

IDK why Sony is not enabling 5G unless it requires some special H/W (like 5G modem). AFAIK 865 has support for 5G and it has 5G modem: Overview | Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G Mobile Platform | 5G Mobile Processor | Qualcomm

Is the OP7 pro 5g worth it?

Hi everyone,
From my understanding, the 5G version (EE) is more expensive and has 5G, but: a) does not support dual sim, and b) receives updates much slower than both OP7Pro (4G) and OP7 (the 5G version seems to lack the camera improvements in the 4G versiom)
It seems the other 5G versions don't support dual sim as well (because of the 5G modem) but given the poor firmware update support, is it worth it to get the 5G version (esp if it will be your phone for next two years) or to just wait for 7T pro 5G (hopefully with dual sim) or for other phone manufacturers to release 5G phones with dual sim?
Thank you

No.
Not worth the money. Current 5G phones use 4G to establish network connectivity and only upload at 4G speeds.
Waste of money to get a 5G phone before 2021.
yeah waste of time. My mate has a 5g one plus 7 and hes still back on .4
Still too early for 5G...
Coming from a 5G owner, it's definitely not worth it because development is non-existent...

When we will have 5g network, yes. Now, NO !
Here some testing 5G networks in Elisa Finland network with OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: https://mt-tech.fi/elisa-5g-verkon-nopeustesteja-oneplus-7-pro-5glla/ (Finnish).
Download and Upload speed transmited over 5G network, signaling data on 4G when using Huawei equiqment.

Possible to convert 5G variant to 4G variant??

So after searching around the internet and forums and discovering the 5G model is basically not receiving the same attention as the 4G I was wondering if any developers could answer me this, is it possible to convert the phone somehow? Of course I aren't expecting to use 5G if it is possible ( it's the only model EE offer) so had no choice but after reading that updates are none existent and there is no custom ROM support nor are we eligible for android beta programs ??*
In short: No.
I've seen it smart 5g but modem is the question best to ask a Dev who builds kernel 5g has a ways to go by next OnePlus release trade up is best way
Not really, no. AFAIK (I've done zero research on this so I can very possibly be wrong), the SOC in the 4G version is different from the 5G version because the SOC of the 4G version (System on Chip/Card, basically the CPU etc) does not support a 5G modem and antenna.
As I understand it, the difference between the 4G and 5G variants is similar to the difference between a Snapdragon and Exynos Galaxy S8,9, etc.
Again, I could be wrong about this and it's just how it was explained to me prior to the phone being released when I asked if it's possible that the 4G version could have the hardware for 5G and just not be enabled until 5G is available in your area, because there was a time when OnePlus was making a blanket statement that the OP7 Pro would be 5G, and said nothing about a 4G variant even being a possibility.

Can the 10 Pro 5G capabilities be unlocked by a software update?

I believe the 10 Pro is 5G compatible (the 10 [non-Pro] is not). I think the U.S. 10 Pro does not have 5G enabled. Does anyone know if the U.S. 10 Pro can have its 5G capability enabled by a software update (when 5G is more available and 5G SIMs are more available)? Thanks.
Why do you think so? The Snapdragon 855 does NOT! have an integrated 5g Modem, its additionally.
The 5g device has physically different hardware. It's not just a software thing.
What makes you suspect otherwise?

oneplus8t 5g issue

i bought oneplus 8t from India and using it in Thailand. Thailand has 5g coverage all over but bands are different. how can i add support of bands in Oneplus8t. please guide
IDK wht they use in Thailand. Maybe you can software unlock it, but you can't add bands that the hardware doesn't support. Try installing the global or eu rom on your phone.

In Thailand AIS Operator uses N41 Band for 5G . the specs of Indian version of oneplus 8t doesnt support that. I tried after installing global Rom as well. it still doesnt support 5G . Is there anyway to manipulate hardware to support that.
Anyone has any suggestions?
usually you can't unlock extra bands if the chipset doesn't support. If the chipset did support it, then it would have worked when you installed the EU rom.
As far as I know you can't unlock/change the bands your device support in any way. Not even by flashing another rom, it is defined on hardware level somewhere. All you can do is to buy a different model of the oneplus 8T that support the bands you want.
Maybe you can try to research the qualcom hack on the oneplus one. It probably won't work, but it might be an idea to start with to unlock extra bands that are hardware locked.
It's not a frequency locked... This B41 is NOT included in your model, so you can do nothing, just by a new 8T global if you want absolutely using 5G. Be careful when you purchase a phone on an another country, you can encounter warrantly problem, frequency compatibility problem and you don't have support.
Technically the Qualcomm modem in the 8T supports all of these bands. However, it's flashed at a hardware level you won't have access to. Sorry, but this is the manufacturer's way of keeping bands they are not authorized to use (device regulations cost money in each country) disabled in the hands of an end-user.
iphone usually supports all the bands everywhere ..even samsung has support to most of the bands... how come a company like oneplus doing so?

mine is a global on postpaid att
Go into dialer settings #*#*4636*#*# phone info and make sure Nr is selected
AT&T doesn't have the OP9 as a certified phone on their network. There is no way around this, either. I've tried everything and even selecting NR doesn't yield 5G on the device. It has something to do with the bands AT&T users for 5G.
Do you get the 5G symbol or does it just stay on LTE?
You might be able to change "carrier_policy" using the Qualcomm .exe and QTSP .exe on the computer.
I have done it on other phones. there's a guide for it....

This right here. As a former AT&T employee (corporate office, not retail level), I can tell you that it is most likely that the handset does not use the same 5G bands as AT&T.
AT&T primarily uses the n260 band (39GHz mmWave) and the Global OnePlus 9 does not use that band. In fact, none of the models of OnePlus 9 use n260. Now, from what I understand, AT&T *does* provide low-band n5 service in some areas so it IS possible that some users may report having 5G service on their OP9, but it's purely because they're in a low-band n5 area and as soon as they move into a more populated area where it switches to n260Go to and see, their phone will drop back to LTE.
What I can tell you from my real world experience is that 5G is really nothing to write home about. I live in one of the largest markets in the US and 5G is really not any faster than LTE most of the time. In some cases, it's actually SLOWER.

The LE2115 OnePlus 9 has AT&T's low band and C-Band 5G bands, with no mmWave, the LE2125 9 Pro has all of AT&T's 5G bands yet AT&T does not want to whitelist it for 5G access on their network. Verizon certified it for their 5G (OnePlus 9, nationwide 5G, and you can use QPST to enable C-Band on the 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, nationwide 5G, you can use QPST to enable C-Band on the 9 Pro, and mmWave), why can't AT&T?
