Best way for updated apps - huawei App Store or petal - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Ok so I set up my p40 pro using a combination of clone , petal and the App Store however I then realised how do I update them ?
What’s the best way to set up the p40 pro to ensure I get regular app updates
I have found most apps are-available via the petal search so I’m happy to slowly download my apps this method instead of clone
if I clone the apps across do they update via any systems on the phone ?
Thanks in advance

App gallery (this is the Huawei play store), Aurora store or Petal search.
I think the fastest latest updates will appear in Aurora store ...

Ah forgot about Aurora so that’s the best way to download my apps - may spent tomorrow wiping the phone and downloading one by one so I can regularly update

Be sure you will login in Aurora as annonimus.

Yeh will do thank you so much

[Q] AL-00 Chinese model [GMS & Latest firmware]

Ok... It might be repetitive, I come from the LG / Sammy world, so I am new to the Huawei universe...
I've been reading through a lot of threads, like a lot hahaha, I just want to get one last confirmation before I order it (still not sure if I'm gonna get the L29 or L00, although the 6gb/128 is really interesting to me) .
I know people like @duraaraa are working hard to get us something rolling! And thanks for that! I know some other devs (from other phones) are wanting to jump into this pool, so this could become and interesting devs device in the very close future.
But I have some questions, or more like confirmations to ask:
Huawei now really "unofficially" released the GMS for the Chinese / Hong-Kong version of the m9 (4gb/32, 4gb/64, 6gb/128 and 6gb/256). For the users on the AL00, can you please confirm the following :
- you have a 100% English rom or other mulingual possibility (meaning no trace of Chinese writing or other, except maybe some Chinese apps)
- Google playstore, all apps are installable (swiftkey, nova launcher, etc..) and are working 100%
- push services (Gmail, exchange, etc..) are working 100%
- auto sync services (Dropbox, Google photos, etc...) are syncing with no issues
- that you are on the latest firmware and you think now that updates will bring no issues in the future
- do you really see a big difference with the extra 2gb of Ram or is it placebo
- if you do have issues, please tell me
- last but not least :which of the 2 you think will have more development? AL 29 or AL 00
- you have a 100% English rom or other mulingual possibility (meaning no trace of Chinese writing or other, except maybe some Chinese apps)
Yes. No Chinese writing except in Chinese apps.
- Google playstore, all apps are installable (swiftkey, nova launcher, etc..) and are working 100%
I don't have nova launcher, but swiftkey works. Everything is installable.
- push services (Gmail, exchange, etc..) are working 100%
Yes.
- auto sync services (Dropbox, Google photos, etc...) are syncing with no issues
Yes.
- that you are on the latest firmware and you think now that updates will bring no issues in the future
Yes, but without unlocking the bootloader you will only be able to install updates that Huawei wants you to install. Ergo, no betas.
- do you really see a big difference with the extra 2gb of Ram or is it placebo
How would I know? I only have 6GB version. It probably only matters if you use all the RAM.
- if you do have issues, please tell me
Screen touch responsiveness is not as good as other phones. Huawei has been adjusting it a lot from build to build. Hopefully they get it right soon.
- last but not least :which of the 2 you think will have more development? AL 29 or AL 00
With an unlocked bootloader, development will be the same for both. With locked bootloader, you currently have more options with AL00, because that's what I have so that's what I'm working with, and because Huawei has several versions of firmware which can be flashed to AL00, but only one which can be flashed to L29 at the moment. I think Huawei focuses mainly on China, so support of the Chinese phone will be better.
Well, thanks for that quick reply!
Can confirm all Duraaraa said. I got mine, had B109 with working g Google services and I uninstalled all the Google stuff, did OTA to B125. Then it offered B135 OTA so did that. After reboot I stalled GMS and Play store and all good. Had to install Google contacts from APK mirror, and had to go to permission manager and allow Google app as trusted and auto start to get OK Google functionality working but all good now.
Only issue I am having is a few apps won't install. For instance, the CBS watch TV app ... click on install from store and it starts download and the before it finishes store just closes. A couple games do this as well. Working on figuring it out.

@SWBgHz hi, I think to solve your issue with CBS watch TV app go to the play store app permission and make sure Storage have that permission on.
I got mine last Friday nice phone, software is really bad.
After i got everything working on mine. now play store will not work ...keep downloading. i did try everything and still not working.
I have few apps needs update , it is just downloading
I can not get notification from any app
it seems that i will have to factory reset.
I think you guys should download HI suit for back up and restore .
waiting for a better Rom.
Edit: Play store start behave normal again and its working fine.
still can not see notification from my major apps like gmail...etc
I had already tried adding additional permissions as well as setting Play store as trusted app but no joy. Just a few apps do same as CBS on, store closes during download phase.

Sure enough, storage wasn't allowed. Odd thing is I checked that and allowed all manually, or thought I did.

Make sure that Play Store has Storage permissions. That should fix your problem.
Edit: Oops, late reply
Abject lesson in checking things twice. I swear I did add permissions but such is life. Doh!

Hey, could you please post the links to all the exact APKs you have installed? I've tried all recommended ones I could find and still stuck on login button.

I think you get me wrong, I only managed to work google authenticator.
Still cant add a Google account. Also many apps not properly working. If you still want to apks I can write the versions of these apps.
We need a new rom, also a way to unlock bootloader.
Any news?
Hello,
Based in France, I also bought the Nova 4e with Chinese android that is blocking most of Google apps, I couldn't even use Deezer and Whatsapp at the begining.
I have been trying all the possible scenarios that I found online, when arriving at the point of installing and launching the Google play store app (any version), the app was crashing and the phone was then becoming really unstable.
the only option I finally found, is to press *#*#2846579#*#* and do a factory reset, then restarting the phone and choosing to clone with my previous android phone (HTC desire 10 pro), after doing that download and install only these 3 APK of (reminder: at this stage you have to download APK files to install apps, from your phone directly or from a PC):
Google Account Manager.
Google Services Framework.
Google Play Services.
DON'T INSTALL GOOGLE PLAY STORE!
You can use APK Pure that is a neutral play store where you can download all popular apps just like on the classical google play store.
If you have a Gmail email box, you can use the Huawei email app that is really good or use a great alternative named myMail.
To substitute Google map you can use Waze or Here WeGo, as you need to log in with your Google account to use YouTube you can use as a substitute: Play tube app.
Google chrome is working so you can also use some Google apps like Google drive, Gmail , you tube or Google agenda from chrome.
All the other apps work fine, Facebook, instagram.... actually being in such situation make you think that Google is really everywhere in your phone and make you think differently forcing you to search for alternatives.
I bought this phone on a Chinese website, in the item description it was written "Huawei P30 Lite Nova 4E" actually if you encounter the same problem as me and you have received a NOVA 4E the seller is wrong and if you open a dispute with reason "parameter not as described" the seller will probably refused to refund but then the website should intervene and say you are right, in my case they offered me the solution below:
Option 1: Return goods Full refund (Seller pays the returning shipping fee)
I think that I will keep the phone, I will probably try to root it but It seems the bootloader code for this phone is not available at the moment, some people even say there is no code for this phone so I don't really know how to root it.
If somebody manage to do it I would be interested to have the procedure.
Many thanks @Tib-fr for sharing this procedure, it's been the only useful hint that worked for me so far after trying multiple alternatives. My Google Chrome doesn't work but I can use Firefox. I cloned a P30 Pro into my Nova4e. Appreciated your help very much, keep well ?

HEllo @edbfkn you are welcome, by cloning a p30 pro in your nova4e can you use some other google apps ?
I haven't tested it extensively but noticed: some apps could not be properly installed on Nova4e (probably due to lack of GMS) and I didn't need to install the 3 Google APKs as you described. Other Google apps such as Play Music work but obviously I can't log in with my account. The non-Google 3rd party apps are so far working normally ? I'll continue testing and will let u know of any new finding!
Hola a todos.. Igual que ustedes tengo un nova 4e..
Hay alguna solución?
install rom
I saw that you can put a rom, it's called MAR-LX2, even so I don't know how to put the firmware.
MAR-LX1B should work with gaps without issues in EU atleast, I am not sure if it will work to flash firmware between different variant codes however

Gold nugget found! Petal search - find apps

Morning Huawei users!!
I've been using a Huawei P40 Pro for just over two weeks, Been loving the device & I have found a little golden nugget of an app! Its called Petal Search : Find Apps So I had been using App Gallery, APK pure & Aptoid however I have managed to find a new app which basically hubs all of the apps into this one platform and allows downloads via this app without any real redirection for it, its also ad free. So from a set up/new user point of view this is definitely a key app , I would say its a must have! Especially as you don't need to go trawling the whole of the internet for links for up-to-date apps. :good:
Having used it now for the last couple of days and I've made the decision to remove both APK Pure and Aptoid, The Petal Search app is downloadable from Huawei App Gallery and that's it! You can even add it as a search bar widget on a home screen!
Setting it up is as straight forward as can be, Huawei App Gallery , Search for Petal Search, Install. Then once you're installed you are ready start searching.
Have you had any experience with Petal Search?
EAT.SLEEP.TECH.REPEAT
Really god Application
Hi,
I have actually been using this app and have to say it has one major benefit over More Apps. Its reach is very extensive. More Apps focused on most used apps and was a little limited. But Petal search allows for a bigger array of apps due to it pulling from major app platforms. 100% Recommend it
How have you found its overall functionality?
Petal Search is not available in some countries .. had to switch to United Kingdom
Edit ... just installed .. why is this actually any good? most apps just link to apkpure anyway .. might as well just use apkpure
now uninstalled.

Same thoughts here, Probably an employee made the opening post to promote something.
So far Aurora + ApkPure is the best combination for me.

I dont understand .. surely aurora or apkpure is easier than a third party directing (like petal) linking you back to apkpure .. apkpure is not much different to the google play store ... install app, wait for updates, install updates.

I get where you are coming from. Personally i like Petal as it draws from multiple app stores giving larger reach. I think it comes down to personal preference, but still a cool app.

Hi mate - do u use a P40 phone at the moment?
Has Aurora and APK Pure got everything you need? Need to look at Petal to see if itll make life easier or harder!
Aside from the obvious such as Gmail, certain apps from my Mate 20 Pro won't clone over (slightly weird as they did the first time I copied over but after resetting and cloning again, they won't).
I can't find them using any of the appstores either. Would my best bet be to Google the app names and apk and download them? I guess the limitation of this would be that they may not be that recent and I'd have to do periodic manual searches for new updates?

1. you mean google for the apk of the following appstores ... aurora, apkpure, aptoide, amazon appstore, f-droid ... install of these apk and enjoy your new google play store .. they are all pretty much the same.
2. install updates as per your new replacement 'google play store' .. just use apkpure, aurora, aptoide, amazon appstore, f-droid ... I have them all installed and update my apps using a different appstore everyday just for fun.
go to update, select apps, hit update, install .. same as the google play store.

Sorry, I was typing that on my phone whilst trying to walk the dog and think it got a bit muddled! I meant for apps that don't clone over and then cannot be found in those appstores? Would I then search for that app's apk in my browser and try and install it that way? Is that safe?
Weirdly, there were some apps that cloned over absolutely fine from my Mate Pro 20 first time and then I reset my P40 Pro and did it again and suddenly a bunch of apps wouldn't clone over... could this be to do with the fact that first time I just cloned over everything whereas second time, I only cloned over some specific settings as opposed to all?

interesting .. maybe because they are paid apps perhaps, then they are not available on the appstores?
what apps?
you wont be likely to find an apk if it is a paid app ... but if you can find an apk for a paid app, then i guess it will be a hacked high risk option from a dodgy website.
seems like phone-clone trouble shooting & testing is your best option .. or a GMS install.

I've just tried again but there are still a range of apps that won't copy over but it's weird as they did the first time I tried - they are not paid apps either. Some of them are betting apps and others are just general apps such as Tripadvisor, Uber, Citymapper...
Message is 'new phone cannot import this data'

That was more just an example as not all of those apps are available on those stores. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with location services as that appears to be a common denominator for a lot of those apps.

I don't know the answer but all your x3 examples are on the apkpure appstore .. so who cares about the phone-clone? is it better on an appstore, so you can update easily.

If you go on app gallery and download the petal app, ive just searched 'google' and theres a fair few on there that'll do it, diolch.
Thanks, it appears to be the betting apps (e.g. SkyBet that are a bit harder to find, or when found, don't work). I'm still confused as to why lots of the apps transferred over fine last time but won't now.
Going to reset the phone, install Micro-G, clone over my apps and see how I get on with the phone and notifications over the next couple of days and then decide whether I feel I need GMS in order to be able to enjoy the phone.
One thing I will say out of the box is that the battery does not seem as immense as my Mate Pro 20's was when I first bought that... although I suppose cloning everything over is probably quite heavy duty work.

That's the point I was trying to get to, why have loads of different apps when you can have 1 hubbed app.

APKPure vs Aurora Store

Hi,
I have both installed on my phone. I was wondering what's the difference between the two? Should I use APKPure to download some apps because they are not coming from Google Server,, so less safer(?). While Aurora Store I heard is linking directly from Google Play Store..(safer?) I can also go to Play Store but which means I need to unfreeze using Icebox. Which is extra 30min of work every few days.
Cheers
Apkpure seems to be where most the apps are recommended even by Huawei Petal Search
At least search for apps using petal search (via app gallery)
Then let Apkpure do the updates
Having looked at options, I mean with app gallery there is an app called petal search which will eradicate the need for alternative apk platforms, its a hub which searches all other hubs for you, kinda like toys R us

P40 Pro Apps

So I've had my Huawei P40 Pro for a couple weeks now. The lovely people in my local phone shop helped me to set my phone up by phone cloning my apps and data from my Huawei P30 Pro.
Apart from Phone Cloning what other ways of getting apps are there? And what are some of your favourite apps on your P40 devices?
Best way is to check app gallery first but while on there download petal search which will be your main source for finding the remaining apps that you need
Aurora store is also good as it downloads apps straight from Google Play. APK Pure is another alternative.
