Flashing firmware for RCS - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hey all! So I had a Note 10+ that was ATT branded and got unlocked. I was using it on Tmobile and I ODIN'd the tmobile firmware. RCS was looking like a champ. I bought the Note 20 Ultra U1 from Best Buy and not RCS isnt working. I dont have the tmobile boot screen like I did with the Note 10. This is my first unlocked device so Im a little fuzzy on how they work. Should I install the tmobile firmware from Sam Mobile to get RCS features working? I tried the google dialer option and that hasnt seemed to work. Also my phone now shows up on Tmobile as unknown device. Thanks for your help!

There's a post under guides that shows you how to enable rcs and other things on unlocked USA model.

Note that if you're using RCS on another device associated with that phone number, disconnecting it from chat features first may be necessary to enable it on the new device.

Which Note 8 Should I Buy? ATT? TMobile? Verizon?

I want to buy a Note 8... I don't want to get locked into any Carrier, but I want Wifi calling and other options to work... I know that ATT needs a ATT Rom to get Wifi Calling... I may switch to T Mobile later this year...
Can I Buy a ATT Note 8 and flash TMobile Rom? Or Vice Versa?
If so, is there any reason to buy one Carrier's Note 8 over another?
THANKS!!!

All usa models are the same now, since the S7. Buy the carrier you want to use it on or buy the unlocked.

Att WiFi calling only works on ATT Rom... So although hardware is the same, not all software is the same. Att also turns off some LTE bands so you cannot use theirs on other networks...
Also, If I take a att phone to t mobile or Verizon, will WiFi calling work?
So, same question, can I simply Odin any rom onto any note 8?

From past experience you can just Odin to whatever carrier software you want. At least you could on the S8 and the S7. I've seen a few people say they went from the best buy note 8 unlocked firmware to the AT&T firmware to enable LTE-A and wifi calling.
I still recommend just buying the model for the carrier you are going to use though. I've had the best experience doing that myself.

I have an unlocked Note 8 currently that I flashed via odin to AT&T firmware and still couldn't get Wifi Calling to work... I got VoLTE to work but Wifi Calling wouldn't activate and didn't bother with Video Calling...
I think AT&T has to whitelist your IMEI for their carrier features to work unlike T-Mobile...
Best to just buy carrier version and then flash to unlocked later if you want. They are all the same phone.

Since att is the most difficult to work with, it sounds like I should buy att then if I switch, I can flash t mobile... That gives me the freedom to move back...
Do we have confirmation I can flash t mobile over att firmware?
Best to buy the one you can unlock easier an cheaper then flash which ever firmware you want, which is what I did. Works great?
How do I unlock my phone to switch carriers
I'm trying to switch carriers , please help
I almost started a thread of my own, buy my question fits here so here goes.

Carrier switching guide on its way...
I'm wondering the same. Thinking about switching from att to tmobile. Would wifi calling and other features work on the tmobile variant if I flashed the unlocked FW? Also, do you know if there are any specific features att or tmobile has removed from the stock phone?

Unlocked S8+ on AT&T?

Hello all,
A friend of mine is on AT&T and thinking of getting an US unlocked S8+ to use. He asked me what he might miss out on by not getting the AT&T version. I'm thinking VOLTE, maybe wifi calling. Idk. Can anyone enlighten us?
Thanks.
-evilhunter101
P.S. I swear this is really for a friend, I'm using a Verizon S8+ on Verizon :good:
I had bought an AT&T version of the S8 plus and unlocked it, then i switched the fw to the unlocked version and now i am able to use it on any carrier i want. The only problem is that i have to activate my service on one of my older phone that used the carrier i wanted.
Honestly, won't be missing out on much

So basically nothing missing. That's good to hear. He's already on AT&T but I don't know the sim card size of his current phone. We'll deal with that when we get there.
Thanks, appreciate the information.
I think you're right about WiFi calling unless there is some other way to add it. I'm looking for a solution for that. I just switched my AT&T S8+ to an unlocked ROM and that is the thing I miss the most. Not sure about volte.

Unlocked Note 10 + - Unable to flash T-Mobile Firmware

I wish I would have known that WiFi calling wasn't supported on unlocked Note 10 + before purchase. I need WiFi calling and so I am trying to flash the T-Mobile firmware onto my Unlocked Note 10 +. The problem is that I am not getting any of the T-Mobile branding or features after flashing. I think this is because it doesn't recognize my SIM as being a T-Mobile SIM. I use Mint Mobile which is a MVNO running off the T-Mobile network. If I would have just kept my Google Pixel I would have all the features that I need that T-Mobile offers such as the WiFi calling and HD voice.
Is there any way for force the device to enable the T-Mobile specific features available in the firmware? I am thinking about going and pickup a prepaid T-Mobile SIM to see if it will activate the features with that. I am beyond frustrated at this point as I have an expensive phone that I can't get any of the features on that I had on my Pixel 2 XL.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an unlocked Note10+ (N975U1) with T-Mobile (standard unlimited-everything plan), and WiFi calling works fine for me with the default unlocked firmware.
You may be right about the sim card. If T-Mobile is your carrier, can you get a regular sim card from them?

I don't know the answer to your question, but can tell you of a similar experience I had buying an unlocked Note 8 from Samsung and trying to use it on Verizon network. No WiFi calling, visual voicemail and other notification features, in spite of hours spent on phone with Samsung and Verizon. I ended up returning it and buying the Verizon branded one. Lesson learned! There are cons as well as pros with unlocked phones.

It depends on the carrier. T-Mobile is good about supporting its features on unlocked Notes, definitely including WiFi calling. Verizon is not.

WiFi calling does appear to be working now on the unlocked firmware for me. I have the latest update that was just pushed a few days ago.

Unlocked not recognized by Verizon

I got the unlocked version straight from Samsung. Took the SIM out of my S10+ and popped it into the new phone, after which it restarted and activated.. Everything seems to be working fine but when I go into My Devices on Verizon, it shows no info about the phone, whereas before it recognized my phone as Samsung S10+. I think this is also preventing FindMyMobile from working.
Anyone with any ideas how to fix?

I haven't tried the Find My mobile part yet, but I see what you mean. I just have a blank where my device should be, but it does show my correct IMEI number.

Well yeah, I imagine if IMEI info was wrong the phone wouldn't even work.
I think this is my 4th or 5th unlocked Sammy in a row and I've simply transferred the SIM every time. It's always shown model number and my S10+ worked with FindMyMobile with no issues. No luck so far with the Note 20 Ultra.

Interesting. My unlocked S10+, using my old SIM card, just showed in the Verizon app or website with my phone number no specific identifier as to what the phone was. Same thing with the Note20 Ultra using that same SIM. However when I called tech support at Verizon to ask what the story was about 5G on the unlocked 5G phones she knew I had a Note 20 Ultra before I mentioned it. So I guess they know it through the IMEI. The only issue I've had is that Verizon call filter will not install on the unlocked Samsung phones. At least that was what I was told when I couldn't install it. My son has the Verizon version S10+ and call filter installed fine on that.

Yep, that's correct. Same thing happens with iPhones. If the phone wasn't sold as a Verizon device (that is, sold by Verizon or from Samsung with Verizon fw), it will show up with a generic, gray icon. The IMEIs of Verizon branded phones are automatically in their whitelist database which enables the icon.
Thats weird, my unlocked note 10 plus has worked fine since day 1 and my unlocked z fold 2. Tried an unlocked note 20 ultra for a few days with no issues awhile back. Another note 20 ultra on the way so we will know soon.

Need to switch stock AT&T f/w over to T-Mobile

I was part of my sisters AT&T family plan and I had recently traded my S8+ in for the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra SM-N986U. Well sis got fed up with AT&T pricing and wanted to switch. So I was forced into paying off my phone & the 4 of us switched to T-Mobile . Me & my wife have our own plan and no longer part of my sisters. So after unlocking the phone the port went fine but I want to switch my f/w to T-mobiles. Will there be any problem in doing so?

If the phone is unlocked, you should be fine. Both use the same base firmware.
You may or may not get all the T-Mobile features. There is a fix for that if you don't get all the T-Mobile features, but it typically involves wiping/resetting your phone.

No doubt that is what I need to do. I just tried SamMoble stock USA T Mobile f/w with Android 11 using Odin & the phone still see's that it is a AT&T purchased phone at boot.

Did you have the T-Mobile SIM card in it?
If not, it will revert to it's initial build CSC. AT&T in this case.
The other option is to manually change your CSC from ATT to TMB. There are threads here on how to do it.

I guess since its a USA based Snapdragon I cant even root it. Yes I did have the T-Mobile SIM card in it. I have tried 2x with stock T-Mobile fw & it still thinks its AT&T. The working network does show T-Mobile, but I would like to get the AT&T f/w off of it. So I will research how to manually change your CSC.
