You should be able to flash it without a problem. But as it is with any modifications, there is always possibility that something goes wrong so it is wise to have Magisk uninstaller or boot image at hand

yeah you should have a boot.img backup on TWRP or have a Uninstaller but you don't need to format /data .
I have MIUI12.0.6 rooted without Formatted /data at rooting.

ok, but I waited for answer from @Petesky Anyway, I think I answered myself since 12.3 build as far as I know is Android 11.
I'm on Android 10 as well, but from what I've heard, so far on Android 11 you should flash Magisk stable 20.4 first and then, without rebooting, flash Magisk 21 beta right away.
I can't guarantee this though as I personally didn't try it.

Yes Android 11,
I read magisk should be flashed after flashing new rom which requires a data format but wasnt sure if I could just flash magisk after setting up phone without formatting again

It does not work. I've tryed every version from 13 to 13.3 half way thru the flash it just jumps out of recovery and boots by its self. It doesn't bootloop or hurt anything I can tell but it just doesn't install. Ever heard of that?

You need to be on firmware B182+ (which you are)
You need to have twrp 3.1.0+
You need to flash stock boot image before Magisk.
You can get stock boot either from rom zip (boot.img) or stock firmware (update.app) and extract boot using Huawei Update extractor. Then flash boot image manually.

Magisk Root without TWRP for OnePlus 6 Oxygen OS Android 10 Open Beta 5 | OOS 10.3.1

Latest TWRP doesn't support Android Pie 9.0 for OnePlus 6, or at least for me it didn't.
So, I've made a Magisk patched boot image for Android P that we can flash it in fastboot bootloader.
Note: This is not Oxygen OS ROM, this is just a patched boot img for Oxygen OS to make root work. You need to unlock the bootloader before proceeding with anything.
Note 2: Please disable Magisk modules in the Magisk Manager before flashing the patched boot, because some modules might not support the latest OOS and your device will bootloop. If the modules has been updated by the devs to support the latest OOS you can install the modules after that.
Note 3: Sorry guys, I haven't tested the Android Q Developer Previews. Even though Magisk is supported on Q, please flash it at your own risk.
For older versions download from here: Google Drive
Folder updated with Stock boot images as well.
OOS 10 Open Beta 5 Patched Boot
OOS 10 Open Beta 5 Stock Boot
OOS 10.3.1 Patched Boot
OOS 10.3.1 Stock Boot
Flashing instructions:
Code:
fastboot boot (patched_boot_filename_here).img
or
fastboot flash boot (patched_boot_filename_here).img
Thanks @vlaf
reboot to system (if you make another reboot the root won't stick, so continue with the following steps)
Open Magisk (in settings select beta channel) and click install and install Magisk again with Direct Install (recommended)
reboot again and the root will stick even after the reboot.
The thread I followed for the instructions is here. Thanks for @b1czu

Even easier way to root without TWRP:
1. Install OTA update (Don't reboot).
2. Open Magisk Manager, install Magisk and choose "Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA)" (Now reboot).
3. Now you are rooted without TWRP and without any boot img hassles as well.

Easy way to install twrp is to fastboot boot twrp. From there, you must turn on adb sideload and push twrp to phone because it will not decrypt storage. After install, reboot to recover and it will ask for password to decrypt. Then just flash magisk to have root with working twrp. Also, you have to use twrp 3.2.2 or it will crash.

Can't flash anything in TWRP

Hello everyone,
So today, I decided to flash the Adaptive Brightness Mod.
So what I did, I booted into newest TWRP, I flashed Adaptive Brightness Mod. Hitted reboot.
It didn't boot, so what I did is I flashed DP3 again. The system booted, so I thought "Yea **** that mod".
So I booted into TWRP again and tried to root again using magisk. I got again in a boot loop.
Does anyone have a solution? I really want to have root access.
Friendly regards,
Crewz

Wouldn't that be already backed up in the launcher data?
You shouldn't be that mad because of your homescreen set-up getting wiped! Yesterday I ****ed up encryption after trying to go back to Oxygen OS 5.1.11 from Havoc OS (which has August Security Patch), I couldn't boot the device up and TWRP and all my files were encrypted. After hours of trying and flashing, I had no other choice than formatting all my data. Including internal storage. And because I'm dumb, I didn't do a back up of my data for 3 month, so now I have 3 month old data on my phone.
So don't care about your homescreen set-up, as long as you have your pictures/music/data on the phone.
Btw, I'm not sure if I have a solution for you, but can you explain what exactly is the issue now? So you can boot up in the system without magisk installed but with it, you can't?
ItsCrewz said:

You can't flash Magisk 16.7 from TWRP. It causes issues more times then not. You need to flash TWRP 16.4 (1642) then let the Magisk manager update to 16.7.
Magisk 16.7 will often give you an error on boot which looks like a vendor mismatch message. I stick with 16.4.
the reason it fails only with root is because the mod he installed is still installed. It only turns on when you have root. remove mod and problem fixed. also, reflashing rom does not remove magisk mods. only uninstalling mod will fix this or a full format.
the mod lives in /data.

【HELP!】Installed a module in Magisk Download manager and now i'm f*****

Sup guys, i had this problem with the SafetyNet Check that always kept failing, done some tutorials here at the forum but none of them worked, so i gave up... yesterday i was searching for some modules at the download page in the Magisk Manager app and found a module that was supposed to correct SafatyNet problema, after that installation my Magisk don't want to open anymore, all my modules still installed but i can't open the app anymore, i rooted my cellphone without TWRP so i can't use it to manage the dependencies of the app... any suggestion?
obs.: I'm not using TWRP cuz i just keep having a problem at the installation, i'm runnig the last version of the Android Pie OS (Beta 3)

He can boot it through fastboot, adb push the uninstaller and flash it.*
But isn't the safetynet fix just a build.prop tweak?
He can technically adb pull the build.prop, fix it and put it back in. Or just take a working build.prop from a fellow OB3 user ( me included ) and push it into the system through adb.

I think the OP mentioned the problem they are having is from a Magisk module that is incompatible with the OP6. My recommendation, without TWRP on the phone, might be a Fastboot Rom to get your phone functional again.

restore stock boot.img. no root, no mods to load. fix it then reroot.
You don't need to restore. Follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-core-mode-bootloop-solver-modules-t3817366
It's called CoreOnlyMode4Magisk and it's flashed through TWRP. Magisk modules are systemless and this module will fix your problem.

You can use the modified boot.img with TWRP preinstalled from the OB3 thread:

Just reflash OB3 from system updater and that will get rid of root and also keep your data. Then start over.

Android 10 - Root

Hey guys!
I have a rooted pixel 3. I want to upgrade to Android 10 if they release in the next day or so as reported. I've read they made some progress with magisk...
What is my best bet here?
I would love to keep root, but most importantly I want to keep my data and upgrade to Android 10.
I do really want to keep root too.
Is there a guide?
Thanks!
I had Q beta 6 working with current process. Canary channel still only works by patching your boot.IMG. So with twrp still not working on beta 6. All instructions say image flash not possible upgrade path. So until 10 is stable + twrp stable I don't know either. I will just flash 10 and see also. But I really don't expect data to retain, will try though.

This is a build of blueline TWRP-3.3.1 from the crosshatch tree that is supposedly working from a follow-up post.

So is there no way to root just now?
I upgraded from a rooted Android 9 by downloading the factory image for 10 and removing -w from the bat file. All okay, data retained.
But there is no TWRP that works and I tried to fastboot boot a magisk patched boot image from the factory image zip file and it didn't work.

Looks like TWRP won't decrypt. Has anyone ADB sideloaded the Canary version of Magisk through TWRP? That was the old workaround when decryption didn't work.

I was under the impression that fastboot of twrp-3.3.1-0-blueline could be used for certain things in 10 (possibly flashing Magisk uninstaller). Also, be sure you have the canary uninstaller.

Did you try the twrp version in post #3?

I assumed it was for 3XL only, glad you pointed that out! It does boot, however TWRP is not able to mount anything (system, data etc.), so I guess this is a dead end.

As stated above I am unable to access any partitions, so I guess I'm also unable to run the uninstaller :crying:
Thank you both for your suggestions :good:

No, you have to use a Magisk patched boot with canary magisk. Not even close to the old way. No TWRP. Lot of info on here. You might want to start reading before jumping in.
Manually patching the boot image with the canary build "works" - as in - it shows Magisk installed in Magisk Manager and can grant Superuser to apps --- BUT, you can't write to system, so things like Adaway don't work, also Google Pay doesn't work. I'm not sure what you use root for, but this makes it fairly useless to me for now.
