Asking to see if it is possible for anybody out there to make at least the navigation bar transparent, maybe even the status bar, or have a really light transparent color in case of background image being the same color.. Or even adding an option too outline a different color of the software buttons themselves so that they can be seen on any background color.
By this I mean to have the transparency while browsing the web, and everything else, instead of just to look at my wallpaper which although I like it, makes no sense to me when the transparency goes away once I'm actually using the phone.
It would make things feel as if I really am using a nearly 5 inch screen.
Trying to get this for stock rooted, but I guess it always grows to make it over into other Roms once made for rooted, which is good.
I guess whoever agrees just add to this, or second it at least, and if this is at all possible staying on root, MAYBE someone good will actually do this.
But if not possible at all on stock root,, then I guess simply list a ROM closest to stock which is capable of it.
Why would you want it to be transparent when you are browsing the web? It would look very strange to see the background top and bottom while you are in your browser. I suppose you could do this if you wanted, I would suggest paranoid android and change the system ui, android os, launcher etc colors to transparent for the navigation part. I do not think PA is out yet for nexus 5 but that is the only route that I can think of.
Because I don't think it would look weird at all.. I think it would make me feel like I'm actually using a 5 inch screen.
I wish I could do it myself but I wouldn't even know where to start.
Here is an example of only the navigation bar without the black bar.
But also imagine the software buttons in whatever color and even an outline color so they wouldn't completely disappear with the white background.. Lol although I wouldn't even mind if they did as I already know where they are and never even look at them when using them.

PA only allows transparent navigation bar for the launcher. The status bar can be transparent for any app, though. You could do a transparent status bar with full screen + Pie to achieve the full screen transparency, but that of course gets rid of the nav bar completely.
And, as you mention, AOSPA isn't out yet for N5.

Your first solution with the outlines or whatever creates the same problem of covering up whatever you are doing, making it a frustrating full screen view that still requires scrolling to see the full content behind the nav buttons. Your second solution creates the major problem of accidentally hitting the nav buttons.
As I mentioned above, one solution for you is to go full screen + Pie. AOSPA isn't out, but CM has this feature, and there are apps that, with root, allow you to hide the nav bars and apps that enable Pie.
I use stock rooted and I use Ultimate Dynamic Navbar which allows this. Here is the link to the paid version which allows customization of the navbar such as transparency. The free version might also work for you because, although it is still a full black navbar, at least it hides away when not in use.

with "immersive mode" or whatever google calls it, hopefully apps will update to include this. this will automatically hide both notification and status bars until you do an swipe from the screen's edge.
and possibly, once custom ROMs become more....custom....they will have an always on "immersive mode" so even apps that weren't updated will still work. similar to expanded desktop, but a little easier to navigate around after it is toggled on.

thanks for the heads up. looks like this has pretty much everything i need in a ROM. I dont like the fact that the google dialer isn't there though (search function isn't working) but maybe i can get it on there.
I think having both transparent would look pretty good. You kinda get a sample of how it would be when you swipe to go to Google Now. It looks pretty slick in my opinion.

Immersive mode and transparent navbar are quite the opposite.
Transparent navbar is everywhere where scrolling content is displayed. It could be the default. I wonder if it is hard to achieve. The only web browsers that support is use the built-in webview, which is not great update wise.
Immersive mode is meant to lock the view in a single app. More for games, slideshows etc.
And the list doesn't grow. Is everyone only programming for Samsung, or does Google give the wrong example?
Hello!
So, I have a hard time believing I'm the only one who hate the last update from for the S8, which basically removes the option for a black Navbar, and transparent navbar on the home screen when using 3rd party launchers like Nova.
I've seen many people not minding, but as for my self I am beyond hating it atm.. I can't be the only one?
How to you people get around this? For me personally hiding the navbar is so annoying.. So not an option?
And Navbar Apps doens't work all the time?
I'm not sure if there is something you can do with substratum?
Please?

I am using Nova Prime and my home screen
is transparent (not hidden) Everywhere
on phone dialer , settings etc. it's transparent not hidden.
Your post refers to

Yes, when I'm on Play store, XDA etc it's
white.
Look at my photos.
( Could not take screenshot of navbar)

Hmm, I've just seen so many say that when using Nova their navbar is not transparent on the homescreen..
But that is great then.
As for the photos you attached, the navbar is black on both, how did you do that?

That is because Samsung is rolling the update to a certain amount of people at a time, you will get it eventually. And I can hide mine as well with Custom Navigation Bar, but I DON'T want it hidden.

I like it. Having the nav bar hidden while in apps is pretty cool. When my preceding phone had a pink tint I used the black nav bar for a while and it annoyed me because it visually chopped up the display. Different strokes I guess.

No,
navbar is not black, it's transparent.
The Samsung theme i use on device is
dark. Thus navbar looks black.
Look at my navbar configuration. (screenshots)
I choose an off white color. Then applied theme.
So on device (dialer, setting, homescreen etc)
it's transparent (when not hidden).
When i am on Play store, XDA etc it's the off white color.

Yes, it white, off white, pinkish , off pinkish etc.
Those colors you see is all you get.!
I'm sure Samsung had a good reason for this?
However on my device the off white is
only applied to other 3rd party apps. (off white)
Thus as stated before my device in general
is transparent. With dark Samsung theme it looks
black.
Plse note,
Just after O/S update, it showed originally all
over off white.
However after fiddling with
configuration and different color options,
Toggling navbar on off etc .
i found myself with transparent navbar.
Nb.
Your have to tap switch theme afterwards
If you don't then you navbar is off white in settings, etc

The way i see it.
You either accept it and get use to it. Move on
or stay behind.? (O/s wise.)
I'm sure Samsung will change it later again.
For me, It does not worry me at all.
As long as my desktop navbar color
fits my wallpaper /theme.. I'm ok with it
Good luck

I agree with you. And I guess I will eventually have to take the update, atm I'm trying to get used to hiding the navbar..
But you said that on the homescreen (EVEN with nova launcher) it would be transparent right?

Yes, if you set it right in device /settings /display /navigation bar /.....
Choose/select ...color option and then tap the "apply current theme " switch .
You should have transparent navbar ( not hidden ) on homescreen /settings /dialer
Otherwise if you only select color and back out you will have white navbar etc on
device settings , dialer etc .
Note that on all 3rd party apps, its your selected white navbar .
According to me it's not such an big issues( navbar ) as some members make out to be .
good luck
I thought they would be udpated to the android pie round quick settings icons but they are still the same on 9.1 emui, anyone know how to change this?
well....power shade app from play store did the trick, but thought they would be like PIE
I reluctantly upgraded to android 10 and the basic Black theme I was using is now showing up with White notifications instead of black.
Is there a quick and simple way to modify an existing theme. I suspect not, but figured I would ask.
You could use,#hex or synergy to make a custom theme.
Alternatively if you wait until tomorrow, Goodlock and its apps are supposed to be OneUI2 compatible (3 Feb) Quickstar is the app that mods quick settings and notifications. Works on non root.
Thanks I've heard of hex installer but never used it. The other 2 I've never heard of. Will any of them allow you to edit an existing app or are you starting from scratch on all 3?
Thanks
I just installed hex installer, was not anything exciting. I was able to change the notification color but my default sms app had undesired affects. Hex installer alone will probably not cut it.
Will look at the other 2.
Im using synergy and substratum lite, with mainly liv dark and a few other themes where liv dosent have an overlay .
My current notifications are set to the overall background and i used an overlay to remove notification separation bar.
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to request to samsung to see if i can get their development tool for theming. Likely won't get far but worth a try
LONG time OnePlus user, Just got my Z Flip 4.
Almost done setting it all up, one thing is bugging me though, how can I change the colour of the icons in my notification shade?
Can only see an option to match wallpaper colours or options in the Theme Store.
Is there no way to use a color wheel to choose your own color ?
Would also love to know how to hide the battery icon from the status bar (not just remove the percentage) cos I use the Energy Ring app to show the battery level around the front cam.
Well, I found my own answer for some of it.
Used the Good Lock app from the Galaxy Store to grab QuickStar where it allows you to customise your notification shade, including the colour of your icons.
Hell of a convoluted way to do what should be a very simple task.
Other customisation apps in there include :
Theme Park : To make your own customised themes
Wonderland : To make your own 3D motion wallpapers
LockStar : To design your own custom lockscreen theme
Clockface : To choose or customise your clock on lock screen or AOD
Was pleased to note that you can install custom system fonts too without root, I plumped for the Helvetica Neue for that "Apple feel", although there's some weird and wacky fonts on there, half of them looking like comic sans, that will never be on my phone lol
