How do i upgrade an old android 2.3.6 to 4.4 ? - General Questions and Answers

I just have a SAMSUNG GT S6102B i need to have whatsapp in this phone the problem is i just have 2.3.6 version what can i do for use whatsapp in the phone?

The latest WhatsApp does require Android V4.0.3 or above. Can you check and update your Android on the Samsung device via OTA?

OTA?
OTA - "Over the air" a term used to indicate software that was sent to phones directly through the internet
to their phones. This the term right?
In that case i think my phone is very old for an update manually. Or tell me if i'm wrong how do i see the OTA

What is OTA?

What is OTA and how do I update an OTA file..?
What is the latest OTA for the note 10.1?
OTA is short for "Over The Air". It is basically an official firmware/operating system update directly from the manufacturer rather than a leaked one. You will either get an automatic notification telling you to download it, or you can connect to Kies to see if it's available. In the Note 10.1's case, the OTA they are talking about is the OTA official Jellybean Android update directly from Samsung, which will give the Note so much more functionality and smoothness.
Just wait until you get the notification and then follow the instructions.
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda app-developers app
OTA means over the air basically when samsung pushes an update through internet directly to your device wirelessly its call OTA.
OTA is no file just a terminology used to do something.

[Q] Need to update SGH-T869 Running Android 3.2 baseband T869UVKJ2 to ICS T869UVLG7

I would like to update my T-Mobile SGH-T869 currently running Android 3.2 Honeycomb baseband T869UVKJ2 to ICS baseband T869UVLG7. I installed the latest version of Kies on my Windows 7 PC. I then connect my device SGH-T869 to Kies running on my PC. I then get a message stating that "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies". Acoording to T-Mobile and Samsung, the only "official" way to update to ICS is via Kies. But Kies does not work with my current baseband T869UVKJ2. Apparently you need to be at T869UVKL2 in order to be able to use Kies to update to ICS baseband T869UVLG7.
I also went into Settings/About Device to see if there are any over the air update. However, Software Update shows "No update available".
I am aware of using Odin3_V3.07 to flash using the stock ICS 4.0.5 T869UVLG7 Firmware ROM. But I don't want to go down that route just yet. Are there any other safer methods to update my T-Mobile SGH-T869 to ICS baseband T869UVLG7?
Update: I just contact Samsung Live Chat. They are not aware of the Android 3.2 baseband T869UVKJ2 that is running on my T-Mobile SGH-T869. That may be the reason Kies does not allow me to update to ICS baseband T869UVLG7.

I successfully used Odin to flash my T-Mobile SGH-T869 to ICS baseband T869UVLG7. I am now running ICS 4.0.4. I don't know why it shows 4.0.4.
I hope that you are aware of "brick bug" that come with ICS?. If not - search the threads. If I knew, before I flash mine, I would keep the 3.2.
Does anyone have 3.2 repair files?
I tried 4.0 but it blocked.

Rooted S7 running Nougat. How do I update when there is a new beta available?

Hi, my phone (G930L, Korean Exynos version), is rooted, and currently running a beta version of Nougat. I received a message both on my phone and also Samsung Switch program on my PC, that there was an update available. However, I'm unable to update both from the phone and Samsung Switch, due to being rooted.
Is there anyway I can update to the latest beta without having to flash factory stock firmware?
Thanks!
Sorry but i think you need samsung ofw for that.It won't work if you installed a rom based on touchwiz.

how to updated ATT S8+ G955U G955USQU3CRD7 to CRE9 ?

Hi ,
I am a new android user and have never used odin before. My ATT S8+ is on CRD7 software right now which I downloaded from Samsung science firmware website. I would like to know how I can update to latest ATT release so that I can receive OTA updates in future. Would appreciate if someone can provide me with download links and steps to install the software.
Thanks,
Unless you have modified the phone in some way, you should not need to do anything to receive OTA updates.
