stuck at TWRP boot screen - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I tried flashing LineageOS for my OG Pixel 2 XL because the security updates stopped. I managed to flash it , but then couldn't fit the GApps on it because the system partition was too small. Long story short I tried various methods of increasing it (even though TWRP no good) & including a format command. (Which started this issue)
Now when I try to get back into TWRP, it's just stuck at the teawin logo I can't actually get in anymore.
I also fastboot flashed the twrp image to see if that got me past the logo, but it's not still stuck.
I've pushed the full OTA image of 11 back onto it, but it's not listed any longer in fastboot devices even thoughthe driver I previously installed is still there. (Android composite ADB interface)
It's listed in ADB devices as recovery. Did I push too much? I should have just flashed back to stock when I saw that the Gapps didn't have enough space, but wanted to press ahead. The power button takes 1-5x tries to work, the screen is cracked with circuits exposed in 3 different places, it has two thick horizonal white lines on the right side because of those cracks. (which didn't appear until months later while on vacation in high elevation...) I guess I'm attached to this phone and want to say forget the security updates I'm happy going back to stock and just keeping it until it dies.
What else can I try? If I'm out of luck, I'm deciding between a 4a and an SE. (Apple at least gives 5 years of updates.)
Thanks!

Update I managed to get flash.all working and flashed it back to stock.
Is there no way to get LineageOS 17.1 & the stock Open GApps to have enough space on the system partition? I need those apps for work.
Thanks!

Cant flash Cyanogen, recovery faulty & weird crashes in stock on refurbished Nexus 5
Hey guys,
so I recently got a "refurbished" replacement for my Nexus 5 and I decided since im starting out fresh (can't access the data on the old one), I'll try out Cyanogen mod.
I can assure you that I followed all the instructions exactly. At some point I checked every download for his checksums and all were ok.
Each time I started the process by flashing a factory image (flash-all.bat), to have a clean start.
I also tried to wipe cache/dalvik cache/data afterwards, but not always. This didn't change the behavior.
These things happened to me while trying to accomplish the task, and working around the issues as they arised:
Flashing TWRP: High (3 of 4) chance that TWRP wouldn't even start up, the phone would hang and just flash the TWRP background picture on screen.
When I did get through to TWRP, applying the Cyanogenmod .zip got stuck at "patching system image unconditionally". Let it go on for hours.
I figured that TWRP was broken and tried Clockworkmod instead. CWM at least always started after flashing it. But same as TWRP, it failed in installing the Cyanogenmod .zip. I tried putting it onto the phone by going into the stock android and then through adb push command, but also through sideloading directly into CWM.
What I noticed when going into the stock ROM was, that a lot of Google processes were failing during the initial setup (where it wants to know ur WiFi, date, Google acc, etc), like Maps, Settings, Play Services, and some others. Sometimes they were failing so hard it was impossible to type in the WiFi passphrase because the notifications of different "xxx has stopped working" were coming to fast, sometimes not a single one was failing. I could not find any pattern to this. When they were failing so hard I couldn't get through the initial setup I would just flash the stock again, until I got only some of them failing, or none at all.
Back to CWM and installing the Cyanogenmod .zip:
It failed with different errors. I got status 0, status 1, I think I once got status 6 or 7, but half of the time it hanged exactly where TWRP was hanging. The errors were random. After getting status X, I would sideload it right again, to get other status Y, sideload again, to get the hang. Could not recognize a pattern.
During this I switched USB ports, and cables, and even tried using my laptop instead of the desktop. One of the cables was faulty, it didn't even allow a connection, but any other setup showed the same behaviour.
Is there anything else I can/should try? Is it my fault, or is the phone bad?
Assuming the phone is bad, I suppose I still could get a stock running without the crashes, so it would _feel_ like the phone is alright (which is what Google probably did before sending it out again as "refurbished"), but I think there would be errors in the future, also I don't want a phone with such an uncertainty. Would they swap it? Also, it is a LG-D820, which means it might have issues with european LTE, haven't gotten to trying that out since I don't use LTE right now, nor will I in the near future.

Hi.
According to what you say, it seems an hardware problem of you phone. Don't know if it may help but you can try installing an older factory image (for example kitkat) and seeing if the "force closing" problems are still there. If your phone is ok it should be able to run a factory image at least.
Download the nexus root toolkit, create a nandroid backup, then when either in CWM or TWRP wipe everything off the phone then try to flash a ASOP rom like Cataclysm if nothing else works then I don't know how to help sorry-.-
So I tried to get the stock ROM up and running again, and it seems even that is not possible. Several processes keep crashing during various tasks, even when idling. After having a short chat with Google Support about the issues I got an RMA offered, so things are cool. I locked the phone again, set the tamper-bit to false and wiped everything.

A handful of problems after performing a factory reset

Hi.
I installed some dodgy app which required root access to operate (but it didn't even though I allowed it in SuperSu) and this is where my problems started.
First of all, I noticed each and every app I tried to run would immediately crash. That included system apps, such as the Settings app. At that stage I was left with only the launcher working and attempts to uninstall apps would also cause a crash. Even the shutdown menu was broken and the phone hung up so I was forced to reboot it by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
After that, the phone would no longer be able to boot, it was stuck in a boot loop, but recovery still worked (TWRP for that matter) so firstly I wiped the cache partitions (including dalvik cache) but that didn't help, as the phone still wouldn't boot. In this case there was only one thing left for me to try and that was the factory reset capability of TWRP which claimed to not even touch internal storage so I was fine with that and did the wipe.
Thankfully, the phone booted afterwards and it welcomed me with the first startup guide (the language selection dialog was really buggy but that's Huawei's fault) and the phone was seemingly ok, except that the whole internal storage had been wiped out but not only that - the external microsd card was empty as well! Could you believe that? I couldn't. TWRP promised not to touch internal storage and the external memory card wasn't even mentioned but why would it wipe it anyway?
That's for the story behind it, now for the actual problems I'm facing right now:
The stock remote app is gone
The boot animation has changed to a different one (now it's a silver "android" logo instead of the "honor" logo)
Battery usage stats are not available (see: http://i.cubeupload.com/BXCknW.png)
Sound quality from the built-in speaker seems noticeably worse
Hereby, I'm asking you guys to help me out with all of this.
The "remote app missing" problem could be solved by someone sharing their apk file with me, that's probably the simplest one to fix.
As for the boot animation, I have no clue as I don't even know what files are responsible for that.
The same for the battery stats problem, I'm already through a couple of full-charge-to-discharge cycles as well as wiping the cache partition, but the problem remains.
The sound quality probably has to do with the DTS sound enhancer. The config file for that is either "/cust/unicom/cn/xml/dolby_config.xml" or "/cust/unicomelectric/cn/xml/dolby_config.xml" and I'm asking you to upload these files somewhere so I can compare them with mine to see if anything is different.
The device I'm using is the H60-L02 variant running the B532 ROM.
Does the 3 buttons method erase internal storage as well? I've already set up quite some apps and having to do it again wouldn't be the most pleasant surprise. But at least in this case I could make some backups and whatnot...
Also, would it work if I flashed B535 straight away or does the 3 buttons method expect the same version which is already installed, in this case B532?

It will wipe internal storage. You can flash any *full* ROM as long as you're not moving up or down from kitkat-lolipop/marshmallow.

Okay, so I decided I'd do the whole thing today. I downloaded the full B535 ROM on my PC, backed up all the stuff I care about from the phone to the PC as well, and also I downloaded the MultiTool.
Though the MultiTool thread says this in bold red:
VirusPlus said:
EMUI 3.1 WARNING! Update over rooted or system modded in EMUI 3.1 gives a BRICK.
You have to restore system and REMOVE root before every update in EMUI 3.1 for now.

So I also fired up Titanium Backup in order to defrost all the frozen apps, which went fine, and then I wanted to unroot the phone but I've been unable to do so so far.
To unroot, I launch the SuperSU app, navigate to the "Settings" tab and select "Full unroot". The problem being, it just gets stuck on the screen saying "Uninstalling, please wait...". I don't know how long it usually takes to complete, so far I've waited for maybe 10 minutes and nothing seems to change. Should I care about that? Is that warning about updating rooted/modified EMUI 3.1 resulting in a brick still true?
Can I skip this step and just flash the stock recovery followed by the 3 buttons method?
EDIT:
After some trial and error with the multi tool and different recoveries, I was able to finally unroot. Next, I flashed the stock recovery for B532 and attempted to do the 3 buttons method, but it would say "Install failed. The update package does not exist" (could be because I'm doing the update from a USB flash drive as I don't have an micro sd card big enough to fit the package). So I rebooted the phone into system and used the Updater to perfrom a local update where it would let me pick the USB drive. It completed without errors and then rebooted into some kind of updater (black background and some bluish emui colors) where it also took some time to finish thankfully successfully. I can right now see the phone booting and for what it's worth, the boot animation is once again the good old "honor" logo and not that ugly silvery "android" one
And now it's "Optimizing system...". I really hope it finsishes successfully as it's already a bit late here and I wouldn't like the phone to be unusable tomorrow
36% ready...
46% it's kind of fun to watch this, and now 49%
I'd like to thank @pudup once more for helping out, I'm not really that much into flashing recoveries, roms and all that myself. Without your help I would probably be too scared to try doing something on my own :crying:
86%, 89%, 95% and 100%. Aww, what a relief Good old stock lock screen and wallpaper.

OPO stuck TWRP 3.0.2-0

Hi dear community,
As many other unsolved threads in this forum I'm stock in TWRP and bit lost to the next followable path.
Really weird symptoms :
Digitizer down. Disassembling the phone and replacement with this full parts screen
I take this opportunity to upgrade to the last excellent SultanRom (cm-13.0-ZNH2K-20160808-STABLE-Sultan-bacon)
I perform a clean install (wipe /data and /system with also upgraded TWRP 3.0.2-0)
Then, flashing the ROM, Google apps package, and reboot.
Boot in TWRP. 2 or 3 attempts, still in TWRP.
Open the phone to "see" something
Reboot, 4 or 5 attempts or more...
And TADAM! OPO finally boot in OS.
I reboot to see if problem persist, and same difficulties to boot in OS...
I finally reach OS (I do not know how?! Chance? :crying
I set up and use the phone normally and realise the rear camera is not working. Any rear camera button is present in photos applications, I can not see with "test device" applications. (I had perhaps do a bad reconnecting?)
Another more serious point : the volume - down alone, like a phantom, and SOMETIMES I can't turn off the screen...
I decided to re-open the device, try to fix the rear camera, watch if the volume - is not trapped under the shell.
I also do a full wipe, reinstall ROM...
Now I'm still stuck in TWRP, with fingers crossed to get on the OS by chance!
Any idea?

Original Shield Tablet (WiFi) bricked or kill-switch engaged?

When I got my replacement tablet for the recall, I followed the instructions to kill the kill switch on my old tablet (a 16gb Wifi only version). I deleted the TegraOTA folder, and used the zip file as well. I then installed BlissPop and have left it that way since.
A few days ago, I decided to switch from the now-defunct BlissPop over to LineageOS. For some reason, I couldn't get the tablet to boot into recovery (I installed the TWRP app, wouldn't boot into TWRP; I flashed TWRP using fastboot, wouldn't boot into TWRP; I flashed Nvidia's stock recovery, still wouldn't boot into recovery).
So I decided to flash stock, but new everything (I think the 5.2 or 5.3 version). Booted into OS setup (without connecting to network) so I could enable debugging/connect with ADB. This worked, so I rebooted into bootloader and finally got into TWRP. But, because of shared storage, I couldn't get into system folder to see if TegraOTA was back. So I decided to go back to original stock so I could access internal storage. Performed a factory reset, flashed the very original stock system/recovery/boot from these forums.
Restarted tablet and... nothing. Black screen. When its plugged in, the light shows it has charging, but no amount of time or effort pressing the power button will get it to do anything.
Did I brick it somehow? I've flashed various upgrades, OTAs, custom ROMs on both Shield Tablets I've had and am 99.99% sure that I didn't do anything wrong this time. Did I unknowingly flash something that would allow the kill switch to be thrown even if the tablet was never connected to my network? Is there any way to test? Basically I want to be certain its 100% done for before I toss it and buy a new tablet (I sold my replacement earlier this week, which is why I decided to upgrade the old one in the first place). Thanks in advance for any help!
If you installed latest stock and system detected tablet with bad battery it probably killed itself even if you did not connected it to internet

Lineage update failed, phone running into crashdump

Hi,
last week I successfully installed LineageOS as of March 15 on my OP6 and it worked perfectly.
This morning, I applied the system update to the latest version as of March 22. It took a long time to process (about 5 minutes), then rebooted as usual, but then surprisingly stuck in Crashdump mode.
After some switching off and on again with the same result, I found I still could boot into recovery by VolDown + Power (it’s the simple lineage recovery, not TWRP).
Since then, I tried several times to reinstall both Lineage versions as of 15th and 22nd the usual way, but the phone never would boot any system. The recovery works perfectly, system can be flashed by ADB sideload and reports success, but after rebooting from recovery into system, it either runs into Crashdump or back into fastboot.
Bootloader is unlocked.
I have applied the copy-partition tool to make sure there is no bad software in the other slot but that didnt help either.
I have done factory reset / format all and re-flashed Lineage (latest and older version) but same result - fastboot or Crashdump.
Any hints what I can try to get a working Lineage again?
--ks
Update: It was possible to flash OxygenOS by MsmDownload, which booted perfectly and is running through its setup procedure now. Though I prefer LineageOS by far, I won’t switch back unless I am sure this won’t happen again
Browsing a bit further through this forum, I got the impression this is quite common on OnePlus phones from OP6 on, and so might happen at random intervals even with the manufacturer’s OS. In other words, a built-in fault. I want my wonderful OP 5T back
