Adaway causing trouble in amazon app - General Questions and Answers

I am rooted via Magisk in my oneplus 5T running stock oxygen OS 10
I am using adaway 5.1.0. It is causing issues in usage of Amazon shopping app. I copied the following urls in a text file and added it to my host sources for adaway and chose 'apply allowed hosts'. But I'm still facing problems in amazon with the typical error of 'Uh Oh Something Went Wrong' with a photo of dog. I have to pause my adaway to use amazon flawlessly. Please advise a permanent solution.

You da man !!!

*ensure to turn off private DNS as well.
Only use Magisk with systemless host module with Adaway adding *amazon* to the allowed list.
Private DNS using adguard jacks it up

For me, what worked is to turn off the web server in Preferences/Root based ad blocker

Here are the steps I performed based on the above
Adaway app
Select > Allowed
Select > +
Type *amazon*
Select > hamburger menu (bottom left in the adaway app)
Select > Preferences
Select > Root based ad blocker
Disable/uncheck > Enable Web Server
Reboot Phone
Going to test over the next few days to see if it sticks

For people that stumble upon this thread in the future: All you need to is what Pims13 said above, disable the webserver. That is it, nothing else, and Amazon will work just fine after that.

Wasn't the case for me. I also had to whitelist *amazon* for it to work.

FYI - I didn't have to disable the webserver nor did I have to reboot my phone. Just added *amazon* amd updated the AdAway app.

I can confirm that adding *amazon* to the allowed list, fixed the issue. Amazon Prime Shopping app now works fine.
December 2021

I found a workaround that allows the amazon app to work while still blocking many of its ad hosts here

Same exact issue, thank you to everyone for the solution.

thanks a ton. but anybody here facing problems with Work profile with ADAWAY?
I want my work profile to work with magisk root and seaway. anybody tried that?
currently it isn't working with magisk and seaway

Why would you use the amazon app if you can simply go to amazon.com in your browser and login to your account. Better not use apps that steal your private data, when you have free alternatives.

[APP][ROOT] Disable Clip Tray

I've created a simple app that allows you to enable or disable Clip Tray on any LG phone that has this feature. It requires root access to modify the system file needed to disable the feature.
Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jfsoftware.disablecliptray
More info: http://jfsoftware.com/product/86

The app is working great but unfortunately it disables taking screenshots, too
Is this only me and what can be done to disable cliptray whilst keeping screenshot capability?

Sorry to hear that! My app only modifies the permissions file for the Clip Tray feature, it doesn't touch anything related to screenshots and I haven't experienced this problem myself. Perhaps it's something else on your phone that's causing the problem? Does the problem persist when you enable Clip Tray and restart your phone?

I've found a solution by manually removing the DB files of cliptray and replacing them by folders. It was mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63895867&postcount=5
But I had to delete the following files and replace them by foldes with exactly the same names:
Code:
/data/data/com.lge.systemservice/databases/clipdata.db
/data/data/com.lge.systemservice/databases/clipdata.db-journal
After a reboot cliptray was disabled and screenshots keept working. As screenshots are send to clipboard as well, your method of disabling cliptray may have crashed the process of taking screenshots. Maybe you could change the way you're disabling cliptray?

I've added this method of disabling Clip Tray as an Option B (with a note that Option A has been reported to break screenshots). I finally sprung for a Google Play Developer account, so I've uploaded version 1.1 to the Play Store and I'll post the link here once it's published.
I'm sorry but why would anyone want to disable clip tray?
Personally, I disable it because the password manager I use (LastPass) copies passwords to the clipboard, which Clip Tray displays and stores in plain text to anyone that uses my phone.

Password manager.
On a side note, I've taken the debloat scripts managed by @roirraW "edor" ehT here and created a website that generates custom debloat scripts here. This debloat generator now includes the option to disable the Clip Tray feature as part of the debloating process, this uses Option B and can be detected and undone using the Disable Clip Tray app.
I've said this elsewhere but just want to say the debloat generator is an awesome idea and implementation. Thanks for making it!

Hey Joshua, thanks for the fine work.
I used the debloat script generator when I did my VS985 a month ago, thanks for that too. I don't remember the clip tray selection in the list but I checked my debloat file and it seemed to be in there haha. When I click on clip tray in the long-textbox-click menu it doesn't do anything either. One question; is there a way to remove the clip tray option in the long-textbox-click menu?

I've tried to add an Xposed module to the app that would hide all traces of Clip Tray in the interface, but sadly I haven't had any luck with finding the right interface elements to hide

[HOW TO][NO-ROOT] Blocking ads without additional software in Android 9.0 Pie

The next method allows us to block ads in Android without to installing any additional software. It's working on any android device working with Android 9 Pie and above.
How to do it:
Go to Settings => Connections => More connection settings => Private DNS.
Check Private DNS provider hostname
Then you can use some of the rest. The first one is recommended.
dns.adguard.com
dns-family.adguard.com
dot-de.blahdns.com
Another DNS that you can check is NextDNS. It's free to use and provide some nice features on their website.
How to block ads in Google Chrome
The DNS method works also for Google Chrome, but you need to change something to make it work.
Open Chrome, type in chrome://flags
Then search for async DNS resolver (#enable-async-dns) and choose disabled in the drop-down menu. Otherwise, chrome could use a built-in DNS resolver which does not block ads.
Source: Reddit
Appreciate it works wells
I don't have private DNS settings.
Edit...
Never mind. I'm not on Pie.

Get the ip address of dns.adguard.com and add it as a dns entry on your advanced setting for wifi connection.
Your better off with a vpn with blocking capabilities then running adguard as a dns.
Works like a charm. Thanks a bunch ??
This is like inventing sliced bread, thank you!
Thanks a lot!!!
Easy peasy and works great. Thanks!
Oh shoot, the only problem is that it breaks MMS/picture messaging. I reverted the mod and picture messaging works again. Any workaround or does that just go with the territory?
It seems using "dns-family.adguard.com (To block adult sites)" will also block some regular YouTube vids. Changed to "dns.adguard.com", fixed it.

Wow!!! Works perfectly... Thank you!!
Works perfectly, without root!
Thank you very much!
Your welcome guys I also prefer that way because on AdGuard app there was some notification that can't be removed and I like my statusbar to be clean from unnecessary stuff.
Thank you for sharing with us! I humbly applied you, ??
My question is... is there a way to make use of that private DNS only on mobile data? Because when on WiFi in some work areas I need to make use of their DNS's.
Thanks

Wifi slowliness

Hello everyone,
It has been a while now that when I browse websites, reddit, etc. the images would stop loading and the pages stop charging when the WiFi is on.
When I open apps, it takes also a while to load them.
1. I don't have the issue when using 4G.
2. Other devices in my network use the same WiFi and don't experience that issue.
3. I checked threads on XDA under the op6 forum but couldn't find an answer.
4. I am running pie, and recently updated to ob10 which did not resolve the issue.
5. I ran some speed tests and the bandwidth is not a problem. I just feel that the network card on the phone stops to process requests/packets randomly.
It is quite annoying so if someone could give me pointers, I would be so grateful, I am running out of idea.
Thanks !

Did you try the "private DNS" feature available in Pie?
If not, here is the set up(two different examples)
Go to 'Network & Internet'>Advanced>Private Provider hostname, type "dns.google"(w/o quotations) then "Save"
-see if there is an improvement. Try also another private dns( this one doubles as add blocker): type "dns.adguard.com" and hit 'save'

Best adblocker for non root?

I'm currently trying adguard but it seems to be using lots of battery even though it says its not. I want something that will block ads from everywhere (if possible) I dont really want to root but if i have to i will. I also tried Blockada but it seemed flaky and it kept restarting over and over. If any of you are having success with adguard, let me know what your settings are Thx

But mostly, customs adblocks modules. (For me adblock plus is the best)

Yes I would like (I use firefox on pc) but firefox mobile is not really good on my opinion. At least for now.
And I tried some sites, and samsung blocked more ads than firefox.
Anyway, you should try firefox, samsung, opera.
I don't think it's a good idea to use a vpn app all day, and it don't really work on the browser too.
The best I had on my previous phone (LG G5) was adaway, but root is needed.. and I don't want to root this time.
I've been using adguard for a few weeks (in auto proxy mode since I need to connect to a VPN for work. Root required) and I love it. I haven't noticed any slow downs for loading web pages or battery drain. I used to use blokada which was ok but adguard, for me, is working much better.

Remove ads completely

Hello! Sorry to bother you again, but I have a question about ads/publicity in the device.
A month or two ago I had oxigen 11, everything was working just fine, no ads, no problem at all.
But I made the mistake of update to 12. I didn't like it and then I downgrade to oxigen 11 again, only this time the phone has ads everywhere, on YouTube, redit, even the music player or the appstore.
Is there a way to remove ads? Using another rom or system? I know I can't remove ads from some apps, but is there a ad blocker on the phone or something like that?
For YouTube I was using vanced but they abandoned the project
I hope you can give me some advice about this!
Sorry if this post doesn't belong here, or if it's wrong to ask about this, but I don't know where to ask haha
Thanks again!

About vanced, yeah I downloaded an apk but it had ads too, I think it has something to do with my rom (even if its official) because before my first update to os12 I had os11 without any ads, or very few. Now when I use reddit, or 9gag app I get flooded by ads.
Do you know where can I find a Vanced apk that works? I would really appreciate that!
