Dialer&Contact App - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
after moving from 7t to my new 8t i was wondering, why Oneplus doesn not use there own dialer and contact apps? ?
Is there any way to change it or to use the oneplus apps instead?

They're moving more into Google's, same as they did with Nord.
You can however install them to your system if you're rooted: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8t/how-to/how-to-oneplus-dialer-call-recording-t4189165

Personally I think the Google dialer, though not exactly the same as the one on the Pixels, works really good. I do not need a 3rd party app to try and stop spam...works pretty good for what it is. Why anyone would ever want to keep their contacts ON THE PHONE is beyond me! What happens if your phone fries to a crisp and you do not have a reliable backup of your contacts??? They're toast...extra crispy toast at that! Using Google contacts means you can swap phones every day and your contacts go with you...not to mention you can manipulate them from a PC. Now as for the Google Messages app...well...I don't use it because I see no benefit to RCS and Textra just blows it away so...I use Textra.

Contacts application

Im looking for a replacement contacts application. The best one I've found so far is acontacts but it messes up sometimes. Like when i click call log instead of using acontacts it swtich back to sense sometimes it doesn't do that but sometimes it does.
I'm actually surprised at the lack of contact replacement apps for android. Makes me want to try and figure out how to make my own.

SMS to Tablet - DeskSMS

I searched and I don't think this has been covered here yet
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.desktopsms&feature=order_history
http://lifehacker.com/5827451/desksms-is-the-best-phone+to+desktop-sms-solution-weve-seen-yet
I used to use syncsms and while it was good it sometimes would just not work, and it utilized dropbox which I wasn't a fan of. This is awesome and uses google chat or email. All I did was create a new gmail just for this purpose and keep google talk logged into it on my tablet. Just wanted to share the wealth and all props goes to Koush who also developed RomManager, man that guy is awesome.
i love this app with the Chrome extension, but found that it was cluttering up my gchat contact list with people's phone numbers as contacts. To fix I set the app to only send emails and filter them in Gmail. I like the idea of setting up a separate email address to handle that issue.
I take it you have to side load on the TF? Market shows incompatible for TF but good for my N1
You install the app on your phone, then i use google talk to receive the messages on the transformer. The app just forwards the messages

Ah OK, got it thanks.
I use textab for this feature. Works very well.
I dont like using Bluetooth, and this way they don't need to be near eachother to work in case I forget my phone
TextTab does work well when I was using the beta, only thing I wish it did was enable upon boot. I always forget to enable it after phone or tablet boot up.
I use SynSMS except like mentioned it's not always reliable.
I like this DeskSMS so far. I can get rid of Mighty Text and SyncSMS and replace with one app.
Also with this as with SyncSMS, I can leave my phone home and on while out of the country and still get my SMS.
I use the google voice app on my transformer. It is the same as on my ATRIX. I can text and read and listen to voicemails.

I'm not quite sure how to use desksms....I downloaded it to my phone...then I put in my google account....had check boxed the gmail and google chat boxes....but nothing happens when I send an sms...I did the "test sms" from the app and it came to my phone....but that was it...nothing on the tablet...
what SMS client to I install to my tablet?
So the app can send sms, eh - that somehow worries me.
I just use google talk on my tablet to get the messages and you can respond through gtalk also

Nothing is install on the tablet, it forward your sms to Google Talk.
It work for me at first but now it does not forward amy sms to my google talk.
It does sync with my Chrome extension
mine still works, I also have the google talk desktop program and get it through there too
So if i use google voice there's no reason to use this right?
nope..not really
edit: as long as you sideload google voice onto the tablet

Yeah I have a seperate email address, but the thing is i have to log out of my main account to use desksms which seems annoying as everything google is the phone's email and i have nothing but email setup. how did you setup your filters?

This uses bluetooth right?

How do you manage your contacts? Opinions please...

Looking to see what most of you are using to manage your contacts. If you are using google, how reliable is it?
I use exchange from work and use Touchdown app to manage my work exchange email and all of my contacts. Problem is all the nice contact apps do not support exchange.
What do you do and if you use exchange, what is your set-up?
Thanks
No exchange here, but i really like exDialer.
i use google... found it does the job right
+1 for Google
I never really trusted Google with my personal data, and I especially don't trust them now after they changed their privacy policy.
I'm using Outlook with HTC Sync or Mobileaction's Android Sync Manager.
I use Rocket Dialer. I haven't found any problems with it and it has nice features. But I haven't seen anything about Exchange though.
I've been using Google and it's working very well for me. I change my ROMs a lot, so it makes it a easy to restore.
I use Google have had no problems backing up or restoring them.

Google is where its at if you are switching roms all the time.
Google has yet to fail me. No need for anything else.

I'm in agreement with the rest of you. I have used Google for all of my contacts since I got my phone last year. It makes it incredibly easy, especially since with my Voice account. In fact, I dropped my texting package with AT&T in favor of Google Voice.
Google. I access my work email, contacts and calendar with our Exchange server, and haven't had any issues yet with the merged data.
I also like that it's available on my phone or through Gmail on my PC.

Definitely use Google for everything. I use Google Voice as well as GMail so it makes sense that Google has all my contacts already...plus it's nice to not have to do anything to make sure when I switch ROMs (which I do almost daily) I have all my contacts.
I use google for my contacts as well. The only issue is the contact photos are low rez and blurry. This has been true since Android was out. Seems to be an Android bug they are not willing to fix. I'm not sure if ICS fixes this.
Google as well, interweave with Gmail is sweet.
when I used stock rom, i used Dialer EX. pretty useful app.
but since I became rom freak, google is the only choice
google
google is very reliable in my experience. i have changed roms three to four times in a day before, and my contacts restore completely every time, and fast, too. i would say stick with google as it is the easiest and requires no third party apps or services to be installed. simply sign in, and BOOM

Strange ads in messaging thread

Hello,
After having been away form Android for awhile i just switched to the Note 8. I've only had the phone a few days but I've noticed an odd issue and was hoping someone could help because my web searches aren't finding much.
Every so often when i send a text message it is followed by an ad. On screen it looks like like a web preview (sort of like when you text a link to someone, that little preview of the page you sent). At first i thought that i had somehow linked something to someone by accident.
It appears on screen exactly like i was the one who sent it. Also, the ad shares the same time stamp as the text i actually did send. The people I'm texting don't appear to be able to see them though.
I've not downloaded anything that i can think of that would be at all sketchy, so im not sure what gives. Ive tried to search for mention of this from others but web searches related to text come up with all manner of things. If anyone has seen this before or has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much
So you must have something thing sketchy downloaded.
Did you get the AT&T phone from AT&T or Samsung? Are you using it on AT&T network or do you use a 3rd party carrier?
There are only a few things that could be doing this.
1.) you downloaded a sketchy app and gave it permission to see/use messages and or contacts
2.) you are using a 3rd party messaging apps without realizing it
3.) you are using an off brand carrier that is pushing ads to your phone through one of there apps.
I'd start with seeing what apps have access to your messages, Even system apps, in your app permission settings. If you see something sketchy with access turn off that permission
If you are using a 3rd party carrier then you may have to try to find the app they are using to push ads and use "BK Disabler" to block it.

I have also noticed it when I switched back to the stock messages. What's being displayed is a preview of the web link from the text message. Somehow you enabled it when setting up the messages app. Hope this helps.

I was getting this too. I think I have tracked it down to AT&T Messages Backup & Sync. I believe they are using it kind of like someone doing a MITM attack. believe this because if I wipe all my messages and restore from Samsung backup (with affected message included) the message is not there. If I restore just based solely on the AT&T Messages Backup & Sync backup, then it is there.

The sad part is that NumberSync on ATT requires Messaging Backup. Time to move to TMO or something.

Use hangouts or Allo or Signal messenger instead of the ATT messaging app and sync you contacts to Google.
No need to use ATT apps at all.
I just bought the Note 8 and the first time I opened the Messages app it asked if I wanted to turn web previews on. You may have said yes to that and maybe that is what you are seeing. Go to Messages, Settings, More Settings, and then see if Web Preview is enabled.

Where are Oneplus Messaging and Recorder apps? (With solution)

Oneplus messaging app was so great because it was simply and working without much fuss, now it's google messages, spammy AF! I need the old messaging back! Any ideas?
Recorder app come in handy too. Why they did deleted these apps? Plus the facebook thing on the 8, Oneplus becoming corrupt...
Edit: Dialer is out too. The new one is horrible. Contact editing is so confusing.
SOLUTION: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...how-to-oneplus-dialer-call-recording-t4189165
- Set oneplus dialer as default before disabling google dialer.
They don't have Facebook pre-installed on the 8T. Honest I never used the Google messenger. Always used textra on all my android phones. And for then caller I sue the stock Google one.
