The file that has been deleted is data/data/com.kakao.talk/databases/KakaoTalk.db
The told kakaotalk.db file has been deleted and was replaced by a new kakaotalk.db
I tried use data recovery programs but those only appear to recover data that is located in either internal storage (storage/sdcard0) or sd card (storage/sdcard1)
Is there any method to recover this file? I know root explorer can access and titanium backup can back up app data located in this directory, but wondering if there are any specialized deleted file recovery program that can scan this area to recover deleted application data

There are many recovery/undeleter apps available in Play store.
Here is a thread about it: General discussion > General > Storage Card - Deleted file recovery.
Some apps are free, some not. You have to read the app description and ratings, then check yourself.
Good luck !
Tried every recovery app available on google store. Only DiskDigger undelete appears to be able to scan the root area (other apps only scans internal storage and sd card). However that app only appears to have option to scan for and restore certain file extension (only pictures images and document files), and not .db files...
Is there any way to mount the root directory as a drive that could be recognized by the PC, so I can scan it using recuva or something? When I connect the device, only SD card mounts as a removable drive. Device I use is Pantech Vega LTE-A IM-A880S

Yes, recuva is good ... used it myself to restore files on an external sd card.
As I am notr sure about our device and there is no specific forum for it on xda, please post your question in the General discussion > Questions and Answers forum.
Hopefully someone there can give a better advice.
Thread closed and thank you.
I have Moto G XT 1034 and I accidentally deleted my photos. I tried to find recovery options but most of the recovery options require to root the device, now if I choose to root it I will first have to unlock bootloader which will wipe all my data and I will not be able to recover the deleted files.
Moto G does not connect to PC as USB mass storage and therefore some recovery software which I tried but cannot detect my phone's drive. I tried Recuva, EaseUS mobile recovery, Glary Undelete, Dr. Fone and Photo Recovery but none of them detect MTP/PTP connection.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

The first line says "If you don't use the phone's internal SD storage - There is still a chance...."
My photos were stored as per phone's default location (Moto G again) so I am not sure what is that supposed to mean for me. If there are any chance for me can you please explain in some details ?
The more you use the phone, the more you reduce the chances of recovering the photos.
The internal storage partition (/sdcard/) is used by apps, as well as for storing downloads, music, photos and videos.
The photos can be recovered as long as they space they currently occupy has not been overwritten by new files.
about two weeks ago an app misbehaved and deleted all data on my moto g. I was very frustrated and disappointed. Only pc recovery softwares were useless because internal memory can not be mounted as mass storage in newer android versions. So i rooted my phone and tried undelete pro, hexamob recovery pro, diskdigger pro. But all these apps are bull****. None of them recovered a single kilobyte of my 12 gb memory which contained music, videos, photos, my apps and their data and my favourite ebooks. Before trying these apps i had read this article too which i found only working method http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
But i didn't try and tried those apps first. You should take a look. Btw i recovered from that pain of losing files and have new files now ☺

This sub-forum is for Moto G (1st Gen) only. However the information in this thread and links provided most likely still apply to your handset.
There are many free data recovery programs exist that can help restore your accidentally deleted files ,photos ,messages ,etc. These data recovery programs can help you recover ,or “undelete” files on your Android ,Computer ,or some other device .
While I can’t guarantee that all your deleted files can be recovered ,there is a good chance it can be ,especially if it hasn’t been too long since it’s been deleted.
Files you have deleted are still present on your hard drive(or media card, usb drive, smartphone, etc) ,waiting to be overwritten by something else .we can take advantage of this fact and recover them back.Data recovery software is just one way to go.
Undelete files you thought were gone forever with any one of these freeware data recovery tools:
1.GT Recovery for Windows(Windows)
Free Data Recovery software for windows and can recover mobile phones through a usb cable
GT Recovery for Windows is a simple and practical software that can easily help you recover files, photos, pictures, documents, audio, video, compression packages and more which were deleted or lost on your computer. Multiple recovery algorithms are supported, contains quick recovery to recover recent deleted files and advanced recovery to recover more files.
The main features:
1. Quickly restore files which are deleted recently.
2. Advanced recovery, scan disk deeply to recover more files.
3. Support the mainstream file system formats (FAT, NTFS, etc.)
4. Support all the major file formats(JPG,PNG,GIF,DOC,DOCX,TXT,PPT,PPTX,MP3,MP4,AVI,ZIP,RAR, etc.)
If you want to try only on data recovery software program, make GT Recovery for Windows that one.I highly recommend GT Recovery.
2.Recuva(Windows)
Recuva is a user-friendly Windows-based software. It is very easy to use and very small download. When you run Recuva ,you can resurrect missing files using either the file-recovery wizard or the application’s manual mode. The file-recovery wizard is handy when you’re sure your data is gone but you’re not quite sure where it went or how to get it back.If you don’t need the wizard you can jump right into manual mode and get to work searching where you know the file should be.Recuva can recover files from hard drives,USB drives, memory cards,BD/DVD/CD discs, and even MP3 players, including the IPOD.
Undeleting a file with Recuva is as easy as deleting one!You can try Recuva if you need to recover a file.
3.TestDisk(Windows/Mac/Linux)
TestDisk is a powerful open-source tool for recovering data. You can use it to recover your boot sector form backup, fix FAT tables, fix your MFT, rebuild your boot sector, copy deleted files from partitions to recovery media, and find lost partitions in dozens of formats to help you locate your lost data. Not only can TestDisk used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive, but also it can be a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.
It's a command line tool, so there's no GUI which is a major reason I haven't ranked it higher than some other data recovery softwares.
4.Restoration(Windows)
Restoration is a tiny,no-frills,portable recovery tool. You can use it in all versions of Windows and Windows file systems.Restoration is incredibly simple to recover files .There are no cryptic buttons or complicated file recovery procedures.Despite its tiny size,it performed just as well as the other nominees when tasked with restoring files from our test disks.
Restoration is small and doesn’t need to be installed, giving it the flexibility to be run from a floppy disk or USB drive
5.PhotoRec(Windows/Mac/Linux)
PhotoRec is a powerful software for safely and quickly copying your deleted files to another disk.It is a companion program to TestDisk, also devoid of a GUI,but likewise is quite powerful at file recovery. Many users distinctly prefer PhotoRec as a safer alternative when deep disk recovery isn’t necessary. It can recover files from optical driver, hard drives, and memory cards.Howecer, the greatest problem is that it’s very difficult to avoid recovring all deleted files at once.
I just don’t recommend making it your first pick. You can give PhotoRec a try if another data recovery software hasn’t worked.

Mini power tool and Easy photo recovery are excellent as well.
I have used Free Undelete for my Windows XP a couple of years ago and it was pretty convenient. Glary Undelete is another pretty useful and lightweight one I've heard from a friend, with a couple of really good filtering options. Haven't (thankfully) needed to use it yet.

Hi i recently made a backup with wondershare mobile trans and it created a .BAK file of 30gb and it is corrupted i don't know why, I can't read videos and photos (if you know any way to access the data in it even if it is corrupted please tell me), i tried extracting it with winrar but it only extracts 6gb of some photos , the rest is corrupted it can't finish extraction.
I flashed a new rom and orange fox recovery , i have root access , i installed disk digger with full root access but it can't find any photo (not a single one) in my internal storage , is there any way to recover my photos from internal storage ?
I flashed my phone before knowing The backup file .BAK was corrupted
If you flash a ROM then Android's internal storage memory - who is surprised ? - gets completely overwritten, means previously stored data have been lost.

I formatted internal storage before flashing the new rom
Steps to recover your deleted data from your rooted Android device-
1. Connect Your Android device.
2. Launch Android Data Recovery software on computer and choose 'Data Recovery'
3. Choose file types to Scan
4. Preview and restore lost data from Android phone.
Stop using your phone to prevent new files from overwriting lost data. Then try to use data recovery software to detect the photos from internal storage. If it can be detected, recovery is simple.

I tend to think it's a lost cause especially if the drive is zeroed out when you flashed.
Don't know but...
This wouldn't surprise me as it's a wise precaution to ensure a clean flash/load.
Even if not overwritten the file structure is lost as that was certainly overwritten when you flashed it. All you will find at best is completely random disjointed files.
The images will have no metadata ie time stamp etc. If you have hundreds, thousands of random images just forgetting about them becomes the less frustrating option many times. There's no way to index them except by memory, one at a time.
Been there, done that
Hello guys,
I tried to use the search function but came up with no relevant answers. So a person close to me has accidentally deleted a whole album from the gallery app on Samsung Galaxy S7. I tried to use several software solutions but the results were not good. Is there a reliable way to recover the whole album or is it gone ?
Phone's Android must be rooted when it comes to recover deleted / wiped user-data.
If rooted then take it to authorized service center and let them try to recover the data in hope they have the forensic tool to do so.
So there isn't a reliable way to do it at home ?
Hi, nice to meet you. If you want to recover deleted photos from internal storage without backup, first stop using your phone in case of data overwritten. Then you need to ask help from pro shop or phone data recovery software like Dr.fone, Coolmuster Lab.Fone for Android, Recuva for Android, etc. Such software needs you to root your phone before using it. About the details, please search online. Just have a try and good luck to you.
