What is the difference you see

There is no sound boost when ther slider is all the way to the right for clarity as well as sound.
Even if there is a sound boost,it is very very small

Depends on a lot of things actually...what app were you using while trying to boost sound through the video toolbox?, what were you listening it in..I mean , was it via 3.5 mm jack headphones or the inbuilt speakers or via bluetooth? All will give different reulsts and also depends on whether any other sound settings were tinkered as well.

Ok..So were you tinkering with the equalizer and other settings found in phone settings--->sound effects prior to doing this sound boost or was it in memory? This happens to me quite often when I play around with both settings..i.e. the sound effects settings and the video toolbox sound clarity and volume boost. The only way out for me was to clear the memory though recent apps and start the youtube app again and this time the sound settings in video toolbox actually works. Dont do both at the same time if thats the reason why its happening ( make sure both the sound effects and the youtube app is cleared from the memory). Best identified through headphones. On a side note, best setting for me via the video toolbox sound boost is clarity on 2 or 3 and volume on 2 or 3.

I haven't played around with the sound effects in settings yet, it's set on smart preset already, when you increase the sound and clarity can you actually sense the increase in sound quality or is it minimal?

Marked difference... quite an increase in sound quality...BTW mine is set on Video/Voice most of the times in Preset. I find that best in terms of loudness and have tinkered with the equalizer giving it a bit of bass. But thats about it
Edit Update: The video toolbox sound effects have little to no effect when the preset is kept in smart. Video or voice gives a good difference. Kindly check and confirm if thats the case.

[Q] How to improve sound quality during video recording

Is there a way to improve the sound quality during video recording on the Sensation?
When recording loud music in a club or a consert, the quality is realy bad.
I guess the microphone input level is to high.
Is there a working solution for this?

Goto HKCU/Software/Samsung/Camera
Find AudioNormalCodec
the options are:
0 - Default : GSM-AMR-NB 8000Hz 1ch (this is the default but has lots of high pitched noises in the background)
1 - MPEG4 AAC 16000Hz 1ch (this so far is the cleanest audio that I found you can get during video recording)
2 - Qualcomm QCELP 1000Hz 2ch (this is the MMS setting, not good at all for video recording)
I have found this solution, but i can't find "AudioNormalCodec" in my Omnia II...
if you can, pls let me know.

Just came back from a concert yesterday and am really dissapointed about the quality of the sound. picture is just amazing but my girlfriends Galaxy S had way better sound recording. anny progress in this?
I'd read in other thread that unchecking the stereo option in video camera settings the sound was better...

not so sure about that to be honest, recorded at a gig last night with latest revolution hd 4.1.4 rom and the sound was horrible
really would appreciate it if someone knows or could find a way to take the recording volume down a notch or two

Surely there must be an app or developer out there who knows how to fix this mess. Again, another event recording ruined. The htc sensation is fine for unamplified natural voices, but even speech or music at LOW volume is pingy, distorted and generally sux.
The Chic Corea concert I recorded was a total disaster. unticking stereo still not effective. Why does iphone make great recordings, but htc can't get it together? or is this an android issue in general? Don't get me wrong... love android and open source, but really... someone needs to nail this one. Is there any point in complaining to htc? ♥
---------- Post added at 12:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 AM ----------
Natural voices are ok, but this makes two concert video recordings ruined using my htc sensation. the sound is distorted pingy and beyond painful to listen to. Can't some brilliant developer create an app or fix for this? Is there any point complaining to htc, or are they too busy getting out their latest phone?
Sux that iphone video recordings. Natural voice and music is ok, but anything amplified, even at a moderate level, is ping-distortion city. and turning off stereo setting doesn't help much either. Thanks for the whine, now the cheese.
done some digging and i think, from what i read, android wasn't given a facility to lower recording volume. so i guess that plus a highly sensitive mic equals crappy sound recording with no fix, for the time being hopefully
I don't think it has to do with Android. I remember at some point on my Vibrant I was able to change the setting and got much better sound after. It may have been a DSP manager app I did it through or it could have been a setting when I was using CM7. Either way, I'm almost positive there is a way to adjust it.
sound quality
I have found a big improvement in sound quality by UN checking stereo sound in the video recorder setting menu.
+1 on this, I'd love to figure this out
I agree. This is one of the weakest points of the sensation. We have great video capture - but the sound can totally ruin the experience. If a Dev could figure this out it would be golden!
I am not sure about this, just a quick thought. But MAYBE the noise comes from the mics on the back of the sensation? Maybe HTC didn't thought about turning off the those mic's while recording.
Just a thought...
I believe the stereo recording uses the 2nd mic above the camera, while mono just uses the standard mic, that we make calls with. I did some tests just by covering the mic holes while recording.
I just think it would be great if we could have a DEV take a look at how to lower the mic gain.
There is a thread over in the HD2 forums, that deals with edits to some lib files for mic gain, but I don't know if that would be something to take a look at. Here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162224
We need this fixed!
I think the problem is that there is no normal codec for audio coding. Oddly Andoid revolution HD writes with a frequency of 44,100 Hz, but the quality is very poor, although an order of magnitude better than in HyperSensation. Unfortunaly, developer chamber is at the bottom, and understandably so - because enough other bugs.
Just wanted to check in on this old thread and see if this is all still in issue with the Sensation and the latest ICS Roms? Wondering if HTC has fixed the high mic gain by now?
Thanks

Afaik, no such mod or app yet exists. As a workaround, you could amplify the ringtone(s) you use with a program like Audacity. Helps a bit.
Best option for now is to root and install Viper4Android. It is perhaps the best audio driver replacement there is and will allow you to increase the speker volume by as much as 6dB.

Assuming you are rooted, unlocked, and the app/driver installed.
Settings, Sound, Music Effects - Viper4Android
in the Viper4Android control switch to Phone Speaker
Check Enabled
Settings, UI Settings - Moderate or Expert
Scroll all the way down and adjust the Output Gain
You can also play with the EQ to boost the most audible frequencies.
At least on my phone the call announce and ringtone are as loud as any phone I have ever owned.
In the very worst case it will give you nice control over how the music sounds.

App for louder music sound! -Much Louder-..

I was searching all over the play store for a way to boost the music sound and nothing was working in fact it would make the sound worse and lower than it already was and this is another thing we can't change without root permissions but luckily I found PowerAmp and this app literally made the music almost 50% louder so if you like your music louder I suggest you give it a shot and it can easily be found on the play store! Make sure you learn to use the equalizer and pre amp features because it makes it extremely loud but if you go into the settings and turn on the gain levels you can make it so loud that it's going to hurt your ears so just a warning lol.. Google Play Store PowerAmp!
My issue is not so much the speaker but the ear piece for calls. It just seems very low. I have issues hearing everyone unless it is cranked.... and it is still not loud enough.
Does PowerAmp affect the ear speaker too?
Update: I am guessing not since this is a "music player"

No this is only when you're playing music or videos through the PowerAmp player. Have you tried adjusting the hearing settings in settings then accessibility and Hearing? See if that may help or you can go through Settings then Sounds and Vibration and tap Sound Quality And effects and go through the entire process.

@mmw68666
What are you trying to say? Lol..
It should be noted that the lower the bitrate of the audio file being played, the lower you will be able to increase the pre-amp level before getting massive distortion. I bought PowerAmp long ago and have used it almost exclusively, and the pre-amp I generally set pretty high, but most of my audio is FLAC with some 320WMA mixed in and the rare 192 and lower for rare stuff I had to rip from Youtube or other less than ideal sources. With FLAC files you can boost the pre-amp quite high and lot lose any quality or introduce any distortion. Using my Sony MDR-XB500 headphones and FLAC files, and the PowerAmp pre-amp, the audio levels easily get to painful/damaging-to-your-ears levels without distortion, but "standard" bitrate music (192kbps-ish) starts to distort pretty low on the pre-amp.

Volumen on headphones too low

Hi!
1º Sorry my English. I try to explain but maybe i don't use the best words.
I don't know if is only my phone or not.
The volume on headphones is too low, I try with originals and others headphones (apple, beats, sony...) via bluetooth , USBC, USBC-Converter... and is horrible
I don't want to have a disco on my heads, :silly: but yes, I want to listen my music a few strong as a others phones.
Maybe is a limitation on Europe, because the quality of sound is so good, but the volumen... Meh
Thanks!!!
I read on theverge and mashable that there is suppose to be a DAC/AMP coming as an accesory. But so far I have only seen the freebuds.... My Galaxy S8 is certainly louder than P20....The Quality itself seems good though.
The only trick I know is too enable Dolby Atmos, then go to Music profile, and then "off" then you get a little more loudness and a graphical EQ that is flat. I think that should be a profile without DSP stuff going on. But most natural to me sounds with Dolby atmos disabled. But then it really struggles with volume.
Spotify has this option for example so you can set it up I think. Personally I dont need more volume. Usually using a bit more than the half of the bar.
It is a bit quieter than other phones I used but definitely not too quiet. Maybe you should go check your hearing ?
In ear headphones can be really damaging to hearing when listening on louder volumes.

Your concern is right, vol are very low even with 3rd party headphones , average volume I have to set is around 60-70% always
volume is low when there are too much noise in the background. maybe bcoz of the noise cancellation (or maybe you have ear problem). im using both apple earbuds and the huawei earphones, Pulsar+ player with in-app EQ manually adjusted + Dolby Atmos EQ adjusted to music. volume is too loud for me at 60%, my base %%% for me even in my ASUS Zenfone 5

I noticed this problem too with the original earphones and my Honor monster earphones connected with the headphone adapter. But, weirdly, the sound from my Huawei bluetooth earphones is louder!
low volume on P20 pro bluetooth
I had the same problem. I found the app Volume booster GOODEV. With that app, you will be able to boost the sound much.
Had the same issue! Realized its the cheap connector included swapped for this:
Belkertech Nylon Braided Type C to 3.5mm Audio Microphone Female
Good increase in volume. Hope that helps someone.
For Spotify what can help is to uncheck te option for same volume for all songs
fixed
My wife's mate 20 pro have similar low volume issue with her bluetooth headset and I did this to resolve the issue.
You are going to need to change the Bluethooth audio codec in the "developer options"
You'll need to search for how to get into the developer options on the internet because I can't link as a new user.
I believe you'll need your bluetooth headset connected before you can make any changes otherwise the option to change will be greyed out.
Basically I changed the Bluetooth Audio codec from ACC (which seems to be the default) to SBC. After this, the max volume dramatically improved.
For some reason, options like
Bluetooth Audio Sample Range, Bluetooth Audio Bits Per sample, Bluetooth Audio Channel Mode, Bluetooth Audio LDAC Codec are greyed out even when the bluetooth headset is connected while I checked on another android phone that these are options you can actually play with.
I wanted to change these to see if it'll actually improve bluetooth audio. Either way, I'm happy that changing this works. Let me know if it help for you guys as well?
Settings -> Sounds -> Dolby atmos -> pick "music" -> adjust all levers in the equaliser at the bottom of the screen to +x dB. I maxed out all levers to +12 dB. And voila you've got more volume without changing any relation between different frequencies.

Thanks a million m8! Works for me. Now I can't have volume much above 60% without being uncomfortably loud.
P.S. had to reboot my P30 Pro after changing the codec setting to SBC before the new setting was activated.
Most things depend on what headphones you are using the stock Huawei headphones are so-so... not really worth it either Apple.. When I plugged in my Sennheiser the sound was x2 louder, after that I also got Huawei AM61 sports bluetooth headphones which are great as well. Pay attention to OM as well it is not recommended to use more than 32 OM on a phone without an amplifier.

A couple of things I've noticed while playing with it:
It's completely broken. I tried to get a baseline by setting all of the speakers to 0ms delay and 0db. What happens is that the headunit outputs zero sound. It should be outputting the same sound to each speaker at the same time, but their EQ math must be wrong and they output nothing.
The only way to get it to output anything is to have a difference between the front and rear speakers. For example, if you add a 20ms delay or a -1db to the front, you'll suddenly get sound out of the front and rears.
It makes zero sense and prevents you from doing any real tuning.
What I've found is that the "best" sound is from setting all speakers to 0ms delay, all speakers to 0db, then adjusting the two front speakers to -10db. I have no idea why that works or what the headunit is actually doing with that, but it results in decent sound from all 4 speakers.
The equalizer is so overwhelming but very important to the sound. In my car all the presets sound terrible expect for "Pop" which sounds pretty decent but I'm sure I could get much better sound if i knew what I was doing.
