Hey, what you think about this option: MIUI optimization in Developer Options ?
Better leave that enabled or switch to disabled? I have read some things but i am not sure what to do with our MI Mix 2S.

Yeah i tried but i don't see differences. Obviously there are but i don't know in our case so
I know my Samsung watch won't pair with this on using the Samsung gear app
Well, I turned mine off.
Do Not Disturb reset to the normal Android O one.
Some visual things changed in the data usage screen.
The "app is running in the background" notifications from Android system showed up. Previously Miui hid it (hopefully they'll update to android 8.1 soon and we'll be able to hide those).
Otherwise I haven't noticed any other changes. I'll monitor over the next few days and see.
My maim concern right now is DND mode. I use it every night. (And the stock Android one only allows for one time, rather than different times on weekdays and weekends.)
If you use any wearables or any apps with usage access, it's better to turn it off. The MIUI optimization screws with background processes in my experience.
On all custom Roms I've tried so far (and they've been a few), there's an ongoing problem while using Android Auto connected to the car's built-in display. Basically, if you plug in your phone and start using AA, after a while the bottom bar on the car's display will disappear, and although you can keep driving and AA will keep working, once you stop and unplug the phone from the car, the phone will lock you out and it's screen will start to flicker and go crazy, giving you no other option but to force reboot the phone.
This issue was present on MIUI Oreo roms as well, but since they updated to Pie last month, it was addressed and a fix was found (seems it was related to the devices default display drivers). For custom Roms, there's a temporary workaround, which is to disable hardware overlays in developer settings, but you need to do this every time you reboot your phone since these settings don't stick permanently.
I've posted and mentioned this issue on several different custom ROM threads, but as far as I know, none of the devs has acknowledged the issue nor has tried to find a solution. So, the question is; how many of you have the same problem?
Please provide your feedback, as it would be good to let the devs know this is not unimportant or isolated.

On which MIUI Version are you having that problem?
Which car display with which software version are you using?
For me with MIUI 8.12.27 weekly EU version and Skoda Bolero display I'm not having the issue you describe.

Yes, and it was (plenty of comments on MIUI forums and over the net, if you want to take a look...) They fixed it on Pie, and if you're still running Oreo and don't have issues, then I guess they fixed it there, too.
This poll, topic and thread is for the issues still affecting Aosp based custom roms, such as Crdroid, PE, Lineage, etc.
Even I would like to know the result of this poll. I am on the verge of trying out a custom ROM (since i am done with the bugs in MIUI). But if AA doesn't work on custom ROM, it is a showstopper for me.
Hi,
I have a different issue with Android Auto.
My problem is that when I connect to Android Auto, after a couple of minutes (1-2, 2-3 minutes) the screen on the car's display seems to be stuck, and from then on it doesn't follow my progress on the way. The screen itself is not frozen, because e.g. I can make a reroute but after it is done it goes back to the "original" state of my route when it stopped progressing. The screen remains responsive regarding the controls because I can even change to Google Maps on the car's AA display, and it works flawlessly.
Anyone else had this issue?
I'm using xiaomi.eu rom 9.1.17 beta

I'm currently on Crdroid, and in my opinion it's the one that works best. As for the AA issue, it's present on all custom roms, but for the time being, I'm using the workaround I mentioned on OP and can use AA fully.

Strange, I tried an EU rom about a couple of weeks ago for a few days and AA worked out of the box. Didn't like the MIUI stuff, though, so reverted back to Crdroid.
I however remember I flashed the full MIUI rom completely, wiping everything and starting from scratch, so if you want to stick with MIUI, maybe you should do a fresh install...

Thanks, I had read you could use tasker for that, but it's a paid app and I wouldn't be using it for anything else at the moment. I'm fine with remembering to disable it manually. Still, I believe the issue has to be addressed at some point by the devs...
One General question:
The only thing keeping me away from custom roms is the AA issue. Nice to hear that at least we have a workaround.
At the moment i am on MIUI Android pie and using a VW in build AA Display. The issue i'm having is that WhatsApp notifications are not shown on the Display. I can send WhatsApp Messages via Ok Google but not able to hear received messages.
Do you guys have the same issue?

Wouldn't be able to confirm that, although I did read somewhere that if you're using any Dual apps on MIUI, AA won't work correctly. Are you using two WhatsApp accounts by any chance...?
I can tell you though that on the current rom I'm using (crdroid), they do work and appear on the cars screen, although most of the time there's no notification ringtone whenever they arrive. Since that was happening on my previous phones too, be it on nougat, oreo and pie, I guess that's a problem with AA itself...
Thanks for your quick reply.
Happy to hear that it is generally working.
Not using dual Apps. Will try to flash a custom Rom in the next days

Works for me and others as well, although someone did mention on another thread he couldn't get this workaround to work either...
This is my setup:
USB debugging on and hardware overlays disabled.
In AA developer options, enable 720, 1080, unknown sources.
If it still won't work, then Im guessing it could maybe be due to different screen panels or something...
I am coming from a Xiaomi Mi 9 and actually I am missing the notification LED!
Not sure whether it is a general issue of Android 10 on our device or based on a lack of knowlege on my end.
I think I set up everything propperly, but neither Horizont Light nor any 3rd party app is indicating anything.
I tried to solve this issue by reading some threads on XDA already -therefore I am quite convieneced that settings are ok- but still notification light is broken.
Maybe there is any Custom-ROM with a nice solution...
pls. advice!

Jep...fresh out of the box -not rooted or unlocked yet!- Android 10 got installed.
Sure , well aware that it is beta, therefore I am asking whether it is a general issue at present, fingers crossed, that it will be solved latest with the stable version.
I did a quick and dirty install of Android 10.0.2 over 9.5.13 -and- I go no Horizon Lights to the notification.
Cleared the data and cache of the Ambient Display and no change.
I miss the notification blick i had on my Pixel.
.
Does NotifyBuddy work ? - The OP has not been updated in 6 months, which leads to to think that it does not work on Android 10.
Does a Play Store app work ? I saw one on the store and then a user said it did not for OnePlus...

I could be wrong, but I thought the horizontal lights were only working for sms messages. I stand to be corrected on thay.
NotifyBuddy works but you lose the ability to activate Google assistant by saying "ok Google".

Did you fix this issue/find yourself a solution? I know it has been a while since you posted this but the Renovate Ice rom has settings for the ambient display horizontal lighting and you can change the colors as well has how many times it pulse's.
I'm looking for a solution as well. I'm stock rooted on 10.0.2, and I've yet to see that light come on. And if it does, since it only comes on briefly, I don't see it. I may have to try that Renovate Ice ROM to get multiple notifications.

ON 10.0.2 the horizontal notifications were not working for my either, but they worked with Renovate.
I installed pulse beat and put the right settings, i think, but it only pulses once and quickly.
What should the settings be, for those that got it to work?

Seems like a pretty decent alternative. Lots of options.
Only thing I've noticed is some occasional wonkiness in unlocking. It's random so I can't pin down what is really going on. Doesn't seem to be much of a battery hit
Just updated to latest MIUI 12 Global V12.0.1.0.QFDMIXM.
Anyone else beside me who have problems with the always on display being on all the day round, even though it's set to be on just between different times of the day?
Worked before the upgrade. Tried setting the settings on and off a few times to see if they "stick"
Yeap it is the last update of the app that is buggy.
Just go to your apps. find the AOD app and uninstall the updates. Then it should be ok again. Just dont update it again from the settings.
Or if you want a newer version just pick one from here:
https://www.apkmirror.com/uploads/?q=always-on-mode
The Last from June should be ok (one of the July is the buggy one, dont remember which)

Update. A new version of the app just came out. Go to the settings update and try.

Wasn't aware of this, downgraded to version from June 30th and the schedule of AOD works again! Apparently not related to MIUI 12 then. Will try the new update later.
How did you learn about this? Is there an AOD MIUI updates and bugs thread somewhere?
I found it out myself...
Some miui systemapps (aod, recorder, launcher etc) are not beeing updated with the os. That is why its a different section in the settings.
If it just has been updated (only the app not the os) and you find an error its propably the new update...
has anyone found a real solution for this? except rolling back?

Nope, issue still persists for me too. Always on display have seen releases with upgrades many times since then, always with the changelog saying "fixing problems" (LOL), but this massive bug still haven't been fixed.
Really bad of xiaomi first breaking this and also not fixing it, would be discovered directly for every serious software maintainer after this long time. But a China phone is a China phone, even when it's really expensive.
Too bad the cameras are so great. For my use cases, there still haven't released any newer phones in the same price class with this versatile and good cameras. I'm probably not going back to xiaomi after the mi note 10 because of this and many other software issues, but who knows. With this rate I'll live with the mi note 10 for another five years lol

Interesting. Tried updating to latest release of AOD which for me seems to be 24th of November, and played around with the timing settings again, and also for digital wellbeeing. Still can't get AOD to disable though =/ downgrade to release from last summer still restores the functionality
Schedule the miui battery saving app's standard battery saving mode, and inside the ordinary battery saver mode activate "disable always on display" works as a workaround for me. But then all the other things the battery saver does also activates during the schedule (like stop app sync and lots of other things)
After updating the AOD app got updated and i cant roll back... Ant it still is not working. AOD never shuts down...
Now on Global EEA Rom instead of Global. AOD problems persists on that regions latest official ROM ( V12.1.3.0.RFDEUXM ). The old fix from above doesn't work anymore - a more recent version of the AOD system app is included in the rom so the "upgrade" to an older upgrade compared to the old roms doesn't work anymore.
Interestingly there is also a new setting for the AOD in MIUI 12 on this rom, besides Always on and Schedule (which don't work), there is also a "on for 10 seconds after you touch your device"-setting for the AOD. But naturally, when that's activated the AOD also stays on indefinitly.
The only "fix" atm is to use the battery saver function on schedule, the battery saver disables the AOD. Unfortunately the MIUI battery saver does a few other things at the same time =(
Possible solution: for other reasons I've had the "MIUI optimizations" disabled in the OS developer settings. Activating MIUI optimizations solves both the 10 seconds setting and the scheme on V12.1.3.0.RFDEUXM

It is hidden now, yes. But you can get it back. Go into developer options, scroll down and find "Reset to default values". It has to be pressed 5-7 times I think and then "Turn on MIUI optiomisation" and "Notify about high-risk features" are revealed below.
I'm on the same boat and I really would like to crash the head of that idiot who engineered this trash phone.
Phone in the pocket and I miss all informations and NOTHING is displayed on the locked screen.
The cell phones were invented to facilitate communication but Xiaomi & Poco's idiot engineers invented the way on how to trash brand new phones!
Excuse me for the rant but I'm really angry because I'm losing communication with other people since I bought this trash toy.
The phone: it's the EU version but since latest update it says "Global version MIUI 12.0.10" and this is one of the confusing things about these misleading poor companies.
I installed the APK suggested above but nothing changed.
There is NO option in the settings about always on display even so looking online people show this setting on the MIUI 12!!!
I may not receive MMS messages anymore (I never had any problem before with other phones) since I bought this Xiaomi trash electronic toy, the wi-fi signal is weak and the is NO communication on the locked screen!!!
I tried to reach both Xiaomi and Poco in many different ways but they NEVER replayed!
Surfing on Xiaomi global and Poco forums it's a waste of time!
I found good information on the Xiaomi EU forum, some other people complained about the MMS issue, BUT I encountered a create a new login problem since the forum doesn't accept my e-mail.
There is NO way to contact anyone from the forum so I'm cut out of any support!!!
What the stupid companies are these Xiaomi & Poco!!!!!!
Hello everyone. I would like to know if anyone experienced this, and if anyone has a solution (or at least an idea why).
The power button of my Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) (SM-A750G) phone does not work at unlocking the screen (if it works in the rest of the functions such as opening the shutdown menu, entering recovery, etc.) when I am using stock firmware, but it works perfectly when using a GSI or any other custom OS.
Do you have any idea what could happen? It should be noted that this happened to me when my phone had the stock firmware and I had never modified my equipment at all... It just happened suddenly and for that reason I switched to a GSI. But now I would like to use the stock firmware, but I will not be able to do it with this "bug".
Thanks 4 the help

That's strange. Have you tried remapping the button? Are there options to do so in settings?
Possibly another 3rd party apk remapped without you being aware of it?
I been using this app for over a year. To spite the ad warnings, it has none. Uses almost zero battery, never connects with the internet and is rock solid stable. Saves button life just keep the screen pointed away from your flesh when in your pocket to avoid accidentally taps.
Note: I never gave it administrator privileges as I never use a lock screen. So not sure about its behavior in that mode of operation.

I tried the app a few moments ago and it seems to work fine, the flesh thing is apparently configurable (assign the volume key, which is the most similar).
Regarding the mapping or 3rd party apks using the button, I see it almost impossible, not only because I don't use any app of this type (that reassigns keys) but in completely clean installations of stock firmware this happens to me (and I don't have any option key remapping that I know of).
It's very weird, at least for me. Because not only does it "break" to unlock, but it is only with stock firmware and even if I change the kernel (I tried using the quantum kernel) the key does not work when turning on the screen. But with the GSI it works without problems.
I even googled questions related to Always in display, power or something similar and nothing, there seems to be no conflicts.

Or simply bypass and double tap it!

hehe, if it is true that there are really hidden things XD
Anyway, I am testing this app and if I see that it works I will be encouraged to install the stock firmware and by the way I will try to dig deep into the configuration in search of an option that I have overlooked

Make sure there's no remapping options for it in settings. If so it may be buried or under accessibility options... I've seen hidden Sammy drop down menus with no indication they are there until you double tap the top label. Swell.
Or simply bypass and double tap it!

Update:
I have installed the stock firmware and used the app you recommended, but no results: / The same thing keeps happening.
I have checked the accessibility options and there is nothing blocking the button :O

You enabled the appropriate buttons in it's settings?
I'm running Pie; it may not be compatible with 10 and up because of the overlay crap.

Can't verify that but suspect it... Q sucks.
Lol, Google wants to protect you... I feel safer already. Not.

Personally, the one that I liked the most (and the one that works best) is the Google official (Android 10): https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/releases But one problem is that it is very outdated.
Anyway, here is a list of some GSIs that you can check and test which one works on your device: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
And here is a tutorial that worked well for me to install GSI: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-workings-gsi-best-treble-gsi-roms-for-a7-2018.4069121/

Thanks! I'll try that
EXACTLY same problem here. I will not repet your words, I'll just say you described EXACTLY what is happening with my phone, a Galaxy A7 2018 (128GB RAM, Brazilian model - A750G/DS).
I can confirm that:
1 - Problem of screen never turning on after being turned off for the first time happens at all stock ROMs. Tried at android 10, downgraded to 9, couldn't downgrade to 8 because odin would not write the image, but the problem persisted on ALL stock ROMs up untill now.
2 - Problem DOES NOT happen at the TWRP recovery. Flashed TWRP just now, so I can flash a GSI, and I can turn the screen on or off as many times as I wish at TWRP screen, without any problem.
These informations corroborate, almost without a shadow of doubt, the idea that this is actually a software problem, not a hardware one. I'm gonna flash the google 10 GSI now, with quantum kernel V3 (seems to be a requirement, I would like to make as litle changes as possible) and post the results.
Having a hard time installing the GSI, gets stuck at bootloop all athe time...

Try this. You need flash a "GSI Boot Fix" to use a GSI on A750.
