Problem in Fastboot - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

Anyone have any clue about this? I noticed two new debugs listed at bottom while I'm in fastboot mode, in bootloader. My wife and brother have the same phone and they are not listed on theirs.
Any pixel 4a trouble shooting threads I can visit. I did a google search about this and nothing comes up.
- product revision
- bootloader version
- baseband version
- serial number
- secure boot: production
- NOS production: YES
- DRAM 6GB
- UFS 128GB
- Device state: unlocked
- Boot slot: a
- Enter reason: Combo key
debug policy(a): enabled(not-in-list)
debug policy(b): enabled(not-in-list)
Phone works perfectly fine, I'm just puzzled over the whole debug policy?

Think it might just mean usb debugging is enabled? I have the same thing with Superior Os installed, not rooted.

Ok that might be it. I tried Superior but couldn't ever get it rooted so I flashed back to stock. It still says it but maybe it will go away, I'm not worried about it, works fine.

Has that gone away? My Pixel 5 started showing those 2 options after flashing an AOSP build with Google's web flashing tool. Those options are really bugging me and I can't make them go away. No info regarding that either.

No, it never did. Google let me return it because it was still under warranty and they sent me a refurb.

What was the reason you return it for? I mean what did you tell them that made them accept giving you another one?

HELP!!!!!! Locked bootloader after flashing a kernel and it doesn't want to boot

Hi guys
As you probably know by reading the title, i completely messed up. I was on the stock google factory image and decided to flash a custom kernel. I enabled usb debuging and oem unlock. after having unlocked the bootloader, I installed the twrp boot img and then flashed the kernel. All was well when i stupidly decided to lock my bootloader. Things crashed and now when i try to boot into my phone, the google logo appears and 1 seconds later crashes keeps doing it until i turn my phone off. My bootloader is locked and i think usb debuging and oem unlock are also disabled.
The same thing happens when i try to go to the recovery, it just crashes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. thank you !!

I feel bad for you. However, you bricked your Pixel.
As I mentioned yesterday, contact Google for an RMA replacement.

I don't believe so since you're not the original owner. However, it doesn't hurt to try.
If you bl locked the phone w modified software ur boned. I believe that RMA availability is transferrable from owner to owner, however, I also believe that they will refuse to RMA a phone which technically broke because AVB is doing its job properly. You can try but I'd say your chances are slim. Sorry mate. Also future reference: if you don't have any reason in particular to relock your phone, just don't. You'll save yourself the hassle of having to do it again and it wiping the phone everytime any software thing goes wrong or anytime u want to upgrade custom ROM or kernel or anything of the sort. This goes for any phone not just those with android verified boot.

Yes they will know but they have proprietary software to forcefully unlock/reformat the phone properly if they so choose to actually accept the phone

VZN locked, Pixel stuck at bootloader, recovery mode fails -- what now?

Hi all,
I have an OG Verizon Pixel that's now stuck at the bootloader. I haven't done any unlocking or ROM modifications. It was stock 8.1 and it broke pretty close to the January update.
Recovery mode says "Failed to boot to recovery mode".
Starting from the bootloader just loads back into it, but the screen gets off-centered (I can attach pics if it helps).
When the phone was working, I'd never done any of the in-OS tools to start the bootloader unlocking process. I'm not really sure what I should be trying, but nothing I have tried from fastboot seems to work because it's locked. I feel if I could reimage it all, maybe it would work again, but it doesn't look like I have that kind of access.
Verizon's only option was $150 to replace it out of warranty (and then only provided a 90-day warranty). I declined that and got a Pixel 2, but now I have the old phone. Is there anything I can do with it? Or is it just junk?
Thanks,
TBK

Try reflashing the same factory image ur on
If the bootloader isn't unlocked it is probably bricked. With an unlocked bootloader you could reflash a factory image and get it working but you cant do that with a locked bootloader.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. OP test this and if anything breaks report back
That's pretty odd that it would just break like that. If he hasn't messed with anything software related it could be a hardware issue

Bootloop of Death (BLOD) Pixel

after update experienced problem with BLOD.
after freezing I've managed to boot but for short time.
is there any fix that available like for nexus6p and nexus5x?
Can you get to fastboot/bootloader?
yes, except bootloader locked. can't get enough time to unlock it in settings
Tried to boot recovery from bootloader? I believe it's possible to flash a full ota image with lock bootloader, but someone correct me if i am wrong.
Cheers

So, it is heating when you try booting bootloader and then recovery?

yep, it won't start without heating
So it's heating itself even when booted to only bootloader?
That's very weird, never heard of that before.
When that's the case, maybe it's time for a replacement
Any warranty left maybe?

I have 2 Pixels that both have the same symptom. I was lucky enough to get them to boot so I could unlock the bootloader, but flashing the factory image didn't make any difference. Based on what I've seen on the Google forums, it appears some of theses devices have faulty memory which is most likely the cause of the bootloop. Both of mine have Samsung memory. I'd be curious if your device does as well.

No, neither device is reliable or usable. Sometimes after it's been off for a while, it will power on and be functional for a short period of time. If the memory is faulty, then I believe the motherboard has to be replaced which isn't worth the cost of the repair. I may contact google support and see if they may give me a trade in credit for a pixel 2 or 3.
my pixel turned out to be verizon, i was able to unlock bootloader and flash a factory image.. The problem still exists. Bootloops are still happening:crying:

Yep. Same issue here. Our devices are likely paperweights I'm afraid.
Can confirm, I woke up to an infinite bootloop this morning after applying the December security patch. Seems to be a hardware issue that just kills the phone.
Have you guys have tried to cool the phone down like putting it on top of an ice bag with saltwater, like a zip lock bag, give it a minute on top of the brine and then try? Should give you some time until you can get into the rom and tap the unlock button?

Defective ONnePlus 7 ? Help me out pls

Ok so i will try to go straight to the point.
I got OnePlus 7 that i bought from Aliexpress (8gb and 256gb) the thing is that im almost 90% sure this phone is defective.
You can use teh phone correctly for about 2 days then all of a sudden it will freeze completely and then you CANT do absolutely anything else, not even turn it off by holding power button ..
So i just left it there until it ran out of battery.
Then i charge while inside the fastboot and when i try to boot it is in a boot loop , doesnt even go into the boot animation
and to make things even more interesting i tried to wipe data guess what? The phone screen suddendly started blinking until again it ran out of battery. (you could see for a split of a second every time the screen blinks the progress bar of the wipe but it never moved from initial point).
So yea at this point is pretty obvious that something is wrong so i bought a Mi9T Pro meanwhile but i dont want this phone to go to waste.
Anyone out there has a clue of what could be? I wanna attempt to fix it myself if possible.
Aliexpress just gave a bit of the money back and the company Hongkong Goldway didnt give a f and they even go as far as to pretend they don't know what i'm saying ( the language barrier when it beneficial for them ).
This was gonna be a short explanation but i guess it was neccesary to be this long to explain correctly whats going on.
BTW: the only way yo make the phone work again for 2 days mayebe 3 is by using the MSM tool , any other method doesnt work.
also when it was working i filled the whole 256gb to kinda check the internal memory for corruption but it actually filled up without any problem so idk .
The problem isn't the phone, the problem is you. Clearly you stuffed the phone up yourself by trying to mod/root it and now you have ruined it further by flashing incorrect images to the device.
You shouldn't be coming to XDA when the fault is entirely on you, I've seen it all before.
@PriPhaze is your device stock(bootloader locked) or modified in any way?

Maybe I did not understand correctly: Did you tried the stock rom without unlocking the bootloader and magisk? Or did you immediately unlock and install magisk immediately and then test?
The stock rom is stable and should work, otherwise a hardware issue can be the problem why you have those issues.

Yea tried with locked bootloader and then unlocked .
So yea maybe i wasn't clear enough but what i meant with the first post is that im 90% sure that here is a hardware issue but i dont really know what could be and there is not repair service in my country.
Thats why the only option i have left is to figure out what is wrong and change that part.
Iwas hoping someone could guide me to figure out which part i need to change.

Hmm, I can't tell you which part to exchange cause it can be the processor, flash for example which you cannot exchange. Battery might be an option, but that's not really the culprit imo...

Yes, everything is on board. It's the worst case for, sadly...
Or you buy a device with broken screen and exchange the board /display. Depends how much you have to spent for this at all.

Ah yes, the common misconception that power shuts it off. Nope, not this phone. You have to hold power and volume up together to power off the phone when it crashes. Make sure you're using the latest platform tools (adb/fasboot) to unlock your phone. Make sure oem unlocking is enabled in developer settings after you've unlocked, having it disabled for some reason does screwy things. Mine was disabled once when I downgraded to Android 9 using the all in one tool available on xda, I thought I bricked the phone because it wouldn't boot after a reboot. Flash the latest oos twice through the system local upgrade feature, this will put the current oos on all partitions. Use the correct twrp, the unified versions found on xda 3.3.1-75 and 3.3.1-76 work well for me. The installer zip for those can be used in magisk to flash twrp after an OTA update before reboot. So, local upgrade 100% -> magisk modules "+" twrp 3.3.1-75 unified installer zip -> reboot to recovery -> flash magisk 20.3 at least (20.4 is available now). Do this twice so that everything is the same version on all the partitions. Lastly restore apps with swift backup without data, I know it's not ideal but may be necessary because some app's data may be corrupt and causing this. Good luck. Of course at any time you have it running you can reboot in safe mode (touch and hold restart until the dialogue pops up) and see how long you can use it without any third party apps to confirm that it is an app you installed.
Man I had the exact same problem as you and I got it fixed this morning after nights of fastboot commands trial and error found this thread forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-t3937478
Tried a few times before it worked but saved my phone all I had was fastboot mode and no recovery make sure to manually flash all fastboot commands you will then get stock recovery back wipe using all 3 options go 1st 2nd 3rd and then 1st wipe again after reboot phone might hang just force reboot and fixed
I really appreciate all the replies really but hmm im guessing there's a misunderstanding on what im saying.
I do know how to flash and recover one plus devices using MSM tool if neccesary, also to flash the fastboot rom .
The thing here is that everytime i recover the phone and all seems stable and working good , after a2 days more less it will random freeze of death and you cant even reboot holding power button NOTHING! is completely freezed.
So yea, thats pretty much it, i have tried already all that you said so far :c.

I did a big mistake, I wanted to go back from DP 3 to Android 11 and once I was going to do the CMD steps, I downloaded the wrong Firmware for the Pixel 5
I didnt see that mistake until I started the steps and the phone turned off and did not turn on anymore.
I know I made a big mistake, but can I do to revert this? I try to restart the phone but nothing, not via power button for 10 or 20 or 30 sec.
Please help

So you used a firmware that was older or one that was for a different device?
Is the bootloader unlocked?
What exactly did you download?
Does the phone charge?

I used the firmware of pixel 4a 5g and I wanted to go from DP3 to android 11.
I cannot see the phone charging . I try long press in any of the buttons and different combinations and nothing. Zero signs of life

Mine bricked about a month ago and Google suggested uBreakiFix. They tried to do a force flash on it but it didn't work. They ended up replacing the motherboard which fixed it, but now my proximity sensor is always on. I don't know if they can fix that or if it will require another motherboard.
I have same problem, but i can go to bootloader. The problem my phone is locked bootloader and i don't have recovery mode. And when i try to flash it because of locked bootloader i can't do anything. Is there any solution for unbrick locked bootloader?

Did you use any special way to even turn on the phone or reach the bootloader?

I did everything, unfortunately my bootloader is locked and that's problem. With locked bootloader i can't do anything. I had same problems with other phones before and i could unbrick. But for pixel devices i can't find some tool to unbrick.

how did you end up with it like that with bootloader locked? what caused it?
I have the same issue like p_a_r_s_a7 with my Pixel 5.
Only fastboot mode: can't find valid operating system
After flashing the 'right' OTA image for Android 12 DP3 the device cannot be restored anymore.
The image was successfully flashed by 'adb sideload' as recommended.
Seems that a locked bootloader is not 100% save from 'flashed to death'
600 EURO paperwight.
I had this same issue on my 4a 5g and after many hours I managed to fix it. I don't recall exactly but I went through every option of flashing stock via fastboot and android flash tool it eventually worked this was 2 months ago

Android flash tool immediately detect the locked bootloader and stopped without flashing.
I've tried to check/uncheck every option but no luck. I've used Windows 10.
Did you used the common USB driver requested by Android flash tool ?
Anything else that could be special, eg Linux environment ( what distro, version .. )
Any detail could help..

Windows 10 laptop, adb minimal drivers, made sure device was detected, attempted through fastboot and android flash tool, that's the only things I remember my apologies.
