dbrand Grip Case, worth it or nah? - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

I'm on the hunt for a good Case for my 8T so far I couldn't find something that's not bulky and ugly looking, I'm looking for something strong but thin and light, is the dbrand Grip Case worth it or it's just a hype around a product because they have a good PR team or is it really as good as they say?

Honestly it's the marketing. It looks like every other TPU case with air cushions. Definitely not worth the 30 bucks. You can get similar cases around $10. For the 30 bucks and higher price range I'd want a hard case back with TPU. Not a flimsy full TPU case.

I had a DBrand case in my oneplus 6t.case actually fell apart in 3 month. Had to go back to my spiegen. Wasn't worth it at all. Plus the skin on the case always looks tacky

I absolutely love uag urban armor gear cases. I have had them on my last 5 devices... I even chucked my note 7 across the room and it hit a wall and no damage using the uag cases.
I've used dbrand and many other cases like it and they're really all the same and only truly worth like $10 because it's just a piece of rubber molded into the shape of the device and I've always wound up going back to uag

Case-Mate Tough Case Best Out There! Read my review!

I will start this review by saying that I have owned a variety of different phones ( i get a new phone every 5-6 months) and with each of these phones i buy an expensive case (roughly 20-30 dollars)
The Case-Mate Tough Case beats them all.
I read every review on this board and decided to go with the Blue and Black Case-Mate Tough Case and it has been great.
The included screen protector is a great touch and the hard plastic and soft silicon allows for a great feel and great protection.
The case is easy to take off and looks great (the colors really make the phone unique because you do not see a high quality case that comes in different colors for any phone, many people were impressed when i pulled out my phone asking to feel it and hold it)
Three of my buddies all have Nexus Ones and they all ordered the Tough Case in different colors, two of my buddies were using Otterbox and they both agreed that the Case-Mate was not only more ergonomic it just looked and felt better and did not add the extra bulk the Otter did. Even tho I have never used an Otter extensively I do agree with their impressions just from holding their phones and holding mine and comparing them.
i 7use the tough case too and i gotta say, its great
I'm going to agree that it is an awesome case and I'm glad I decided to purchase it, especially over the otter box. I am going to disagree with the supplied screen protector. It was crap. I love the clarivue ultra clear protector, Its reusable, washable, no adhesive (static based) and You can't even tell I have it on. Ultra smooth, ultra clear, no glue.... awesome.

I have one ordered and it should be here next week. I need a holster for mine. Do you all know of one that will fit this case? Will the Seidio holster work for it? Thanks.
I have the black/black case mate tough case. The only and i mean only problem i sometimes have is that when I put the phone back into the hard shell, sometimes its hard to get the volume down button to work. That can be fixed by doing a little adjusting. I love this case and I wouldn't own anything else...
you guys got me interested in this case. how bulky does it make the nexus looks? the black/red looks pretty hot.....
I want it, but its cheap shipping option says it will take 3-4 weeks to Canada
even the $20 shipping says 8-14 days and with fedex... I pay brokerage..... why can't they do usps expedited?

It does add a little bulk, i'm not going to lie to you. However, in return your getting a sexy case plus a ****load of protection. You just simply can't go wrong with buying one of these cases. You definitely get what you pay for.

i use the nite ize holster with the tough case. http://www.niteize.com/collections/rugged-phone-cases/products/clip-case-cargo-medium
I bought black/blue on Friday. Tracking says it will be here today. I was going to write a review, but you beat me to it!
I report back to say if I like it or not.
To those who ask about bulk. Its adds a little bulk, but not as much as the otter box. Not even close if you ask me. And personally I feel the phone fits better in my hand with the case on. It doesn't feel like it will slip out.
Oh and the tough case gets double props for being able to buy the colored rubber inner sleeves separately without buying a whole new outer hard case with it.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
i honestly like the otterbox a lot better. its probably type of protection but i like that the ports are covered. u never know when something might get in there
My only gripe with the Case-Mate tough case and this is extremely minor is that because the hard case does not entirely cover the soft case, any lint that you might have in your pocket is attracted to the soft case.
Whenever I put my case in my pocket, it always attracts a little dust. Not enough to warrant getting a new case, but something that you should be aware of.
I used to use the Seidio Innocase II Surface, but it would keep cutting into my invisibleshield which ended up getting scratched off on the sides.
I definitely do love the case-mate though.

I took a look at the cases after your linked that and im very impressed!
being an elevator mechanic i snag my phone case on just about everything and have spent far too much money on holster. Does the medium size work well for you? i find that since the nexus one is a little longer then most bbs some cases the flap will not fold over at the top.
That case would suck for a nexus

you guys got me sold on this case. jus ordered it on friday. i'm currently using the seidio innocase 2 w/ holster. i like the fit of it, but it really is tight on there. i literally have to use a knife to split it from the back just to take it off...

Diztronic vs Rearth Ringke Case?

Have Tried to find which case do people prefer - Between Rearth Ringke and Diztronic. The owners of both seem to love it, but dint find any comaring one with another - need help in deciding which one to buy( Both available on Amazon)
Those who've used/have Both - Please give the specific details of why/if you like one over the other.
And, Color choice - Grey vs Metallic Black?
Thanks
the Matte Navy Ringke Slim is awesome. Looks great on a N4.

Co-sign. The revised case is awesome, and fits super well. Cut outs are all perfect.

I have Skinomi skin protector on with Ringke. The top-left corner is a little too tight and it pushes the skin protector up a bit. Regardless, I still love the case a lot.
Anyone have any thoughts on Nillkin vs Ringke vs Diztronic?
Have 2 Ringkes and a black Diztronic, of the 3, the white Ringke is by far my favourite. The Diztronic is nice, too but I find it takes away from the visual clean lines of the Nexy where as the Ringkes are so minimal, you don't notice it. Will likely be selling the Dizt shortly.

Of the Ringkes, I have one black and one white. I pondered on the grey as well but did't want to buy too many. The white is simply stunning.
Ringke All the Way!!!
I have both and I'd have to say Ringke is the best of the two. I especially like it because of how clean it is, looking that is. Keeps the phone looking very sleek.
Also, Rearth Ringke has very good customer service. At least with me they have. I pre-ordered the original one, and it had the slight manufacturer defect. I just e-mailed them through amazon asking for a replacement, not a refund. They had the revised edition in my mailbox on December 12th, day after they started shipping. They didn't charge me a dime, and even told me to keep the defected one and how to 'bend' it to correct it. I only sent a single e-mail, and they honored their product. Don't really see that much for accessory providers, at least in my experience.
Edit:
I have an xoskin on my phone with this case, and it doesn't mess with the screen protector at all. The xoskin is actually the best screen protector I've bought so far. I doesn't even feel like it's there. Smooth glossy/glass like movement when swiping.

I vouch for this. Except I contacted them directly towards emails and no response (maybe they dont check those emails? .. not sure, but i got one from [email protected] but I eventually gave in and just called them and the lady was really nice) same case scenario over here. Got it replaced without question, received it Saturday.
Using the Black one here. Eco packaging very nice as well.

I usually always get a Diztronic cases for my devices, until I replace it with a Mercury Pearl Tpu, as they become available outta Korea.
This time since there wasn't any Diztronic yet, so I went for the Nillikin and I am very impressed.
I may still buy a Diztronic eventually if I don't like the Poetic Atmosphere or a Mercury Pearl doesn't come out soon.

Cut corners as....? The Slim Rearth case looks exactly the same on the S3. it's their newer model of their cases whereas GN had everything covered on the sides.
Definitely not junk, I prefer the new style over the old. But the old one provides more protection, the new one i like the material of it a lot more.

LG Nexus 4 Incipio Feather

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but I noticed that Incipio is now selling the feather 'Ultra Thin Snap-On Case' for the Nexus 4: http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartp...s-4-cases/lg-google-nexus-4-feather-case.html
I think they are too late to the game, if you ask me. There are too many case manufacturers offering the same hard shell snap on cases, and they all look the same. The only possible benefit of the feather case is that comes in more vibrant colours. However, at a price of $24.99, I can't see why someone would purchase this over the $9.99 Ringke Slim...
I also found a video review in case any of you are interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gThV8Ie6Rc
I went with the poetic slim case from amazon. It was cheaper than the Ringke Slim and has a little coverage on the top and bottom (unlike the Ringke and the Incipio).
$25 is too much imo

Incipio feather case is the best slim case for N4 IMO. You can buy it cheaper on amazon.com.
For way cheaper you can get a better looking case from Poetic. Poetic Palette. http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Palette-Premium-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00ANGOICC
IMO nothing special about the Incipio Feather.

I do and works great for me.
When I first got my phone, the first case I checked out was the Incipio feather. Saw it online and said to myself, "like hey that one looks good". I wanted to see it in person first so I found it at a Fido store. I tried it on my phone but didn't like it. The sides didn't come up all the way on the phone if I remember correctly. Some slim cases have a bit of a lip on side of the phones incase you want to rest it front face down and I found the top and bottom too open. Then again all slim cases generally look the same anyways. Ended up get the Rearth Ringke fusion but I found that kinda bulky a bit. I got the first batch when it came out and those had problems with the buttons being to hard to press. Using the OEM LG bumper now.

OEM LG Bumper does crack on the USB port.. happened to me without ever dropping the phone / case.
For the Rearth case, simply use a knife and do the cut outs. Mines is the first version and the buttons feel great. Google on the cut outs. It was posted on reddit and its somewhere on XDA (probably main Fusion thread)

Otterbox Defender Series Too Expensive ($70!)

http://www.otterbox.com/Galaxy-Note-4-Defender-Series-Case/sam2-galaxy-note-4-set,default,pd.html
Isn't this case too pricey?!
This is the only case you will ever need, guaranteed.
It is a little high. Your paying for top of the line. Port covers, holsters, lots of unique color choices and a screen protector. The case looks well made. For me note 2 I spent over 50 for my case and holster. The one I brought was good but this one looks better. I'd consider it if it had a kick stand.
The price should come down in a few months but I don't think it's really overpriced.
Or just grab a UAG case and get similar protection for half the price (and better looks).

It's certainly pricier than other models but one thing they appear to have accounted for is the fingerprint scanner. It looks like the case is notched right below it. Fingerprint scan worked fine on my Note 4 until I threw the Spigen Tough Armor case on. Now I can't get a consistent swipe.

I used to have this case for the Galaxy S3. It was really sturdy but one thing I didn't like is how the TPU/rubber material eventually would not stick/pulled away from the phone and I had to keep pushing in that rubber/TPU material all the time. It was pretty pricey to have to deal with that type of problem.
When I got my Note 3, I tried a few cases and eventually stuck with the Urban Armor Gear. I kept it because it was sturdy, felt good in the hand, saw different drop tests on Youtube, and was Military drop-test certified. I kept that case and also the case with the Zero Lemon extended battery since it was sturdy, covered the ports, and looks to be able to take drops as well.
The Rubber/TPU material is something I never favored either, haha

If Otterbox fixed that issue, it would be the perfect case(although still pricey).
I would recommend the Urban Armor Gear if you haven't tried it before. The only bad thing is that it doesn't have covers for the ports, but it's still a great case. I had the white/Navigator case for the Note 3 and for the Note 4 I decided to order this one:

At first, before I ordered the UAG, there weren't many options for sturdy cases that were available, so I went with this one:

For all complaining about the TPU cover stretching out on an Otterbox, you know all you have to do is take a picture of it with your info and Otterbox sends you another outer case free of charge. On my S3, I had mine and my wife's outer case, holster etc... replaced multiple times even after a year. So for $59 you paying for lifetime of support and free replacement with minimum hoop jumping.

That case does come with a holster but according to the seller does not have a kickstand unfortunately. It is the only holster case I've been able to find with headphone, mini USB & S Pen port covers. I'm waiting until the 22nd when it's available fulfilled by Amazon to see if anything else becomes available and if not I'll order it.
It is possible that case will stand up in the landscape mode when the belt clip is rotated to align with the holster clip on the side. My BodyGlove ToughSuit does that and it was not listed as a feature on Amazon when I bought it.
I've read Otterbox reviews in the past that state their cases become loose and I think their price is ridiculous.
If you can wait one of the holster/case Platinum Series Best Buy sells is made by Seidio and has a kickstand. It's the Seido convert combo. Best Buy sells it for $20 less than Seidio.

Full-grain leather wrap from Toast is finally available!

Mod Edit link removed
Needs more pictures. Button side, top, bottom, and front. To judge case/screen protector compatibility, the front needs to be very zoomable to see the plastic ring between glass and metal.
Yessss i emailed them a long time ago and the said this was something they were thinking of making. $44 seems a little steep though. Whos gonna be the ginny pig and get one?
Is the visor part attached or is it a second piece?
I just ordered one. Knowing toastmade it will take them a couple of weeks before they ship it. I bet it will be beautiful though.
I would buy it, but I would like more pictures or a full review of this case from someone. =)

It's full-grain leather (the best you can get) from American cattle, sent to Europe to be tanned and back to Oregon Leather Company. Once dyed and finished, the leather is shipped to us, then we laser cut and handcraft to perfection. It's quite a process, and it took us quite some time to get the 6P all dialed in. The leather is ~1.5mm thick, so it'll take any drop and the phone won't wear through on the corners like the super thin Horween used by others. With that being said, we made the wrap all one piece; without the visor coverage, the surrounding leather would protrude and look pretty bad.
True story: Matias (owner) unknowingly dropped his leather wrapped iPhone outside his house when dropped off by a cab late one night. The next day, he managed to track it down at a neighbors' using the "Find my iPhone" feature. He determined that the cab had ran over the phone; there were even little pieces of gravel imbedded into the leather which managed to take all of the damage. Replaced the shattered screen and it was as good as new.

More pics and reviews are in the works. FYI - the leather is ~1.5mm thick. You could surely apply the front panels atop a screen protector, but I don't think you'll be able to cram it into a case. Honestly, I don't see why you'd want to case that smooth, buttery leather. It'll take any drop and the phone won't wear through on the corners like the super thin Horween used by others.

Thanks for your support, and unfortunately we are at a 1-2 week craft time (every one is made to order). Rest assured, it'll have been well worth the wait!

Stay tuned; they're in the works! :good:
It's gonna take my leather toast skin a couple of weeks, so in the meantime I had ordered a Slickwraps leather back. The quality is not as high as toastmade but I needed a skin quickly.

Just out of interest, what made you choose slickwraps over dbrand?
I've only ever dealt with dbrand so far so I'm not really aware of how the different companies compare and what they actually do different?
The toastmade stuff I've seen on the internet does look top notch.

I guess I'd have to see it in person, from that picture it almost makes the phone look plastic.

I wanted a real leather skin for my 6P. I don't think dbrand sells real leather skins.

I just replaced my dbrand black leather (vinyl) with a slick wraps real leather one. It was a lot easier to apply, I don't think the fit is quite as exact, but the feel of it is so much better.

Okay, its official. The Slickwraps leather skin sucks. The leather is thin and plasticity feeling. It does provide grip though. It will have to do until my toastmade skin comes in though.

Will be interesting to hear feedback on the quality and fit of the toastmade wrap.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dbrand skins. I've got a combo of the light and dark brushed metal and it was like applying Armour it was that thick and good quality! Love how they give you some spare pieces as well.

Looks interesting.
I might bite. I would love a real carbon fiber version like the wood.
A carbon fiber pattern in the leather would do.

I would like to know if you used the Slickwraps leather or the Slickwraps "Natural Series" leather (one is real leather, the other is vinyl). I was considering the Slickwraps Natural Series because it looked fairly modest (doesn't cover the entire back), is less than $30 and looks fairly nice. However, if it is really thin and feels like plastic, I'll pass on it. Thanks!
