How to do manual updates on Android 11 - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

I download the new update via Oxygen Updater but now there is no gear icon to start a local upgrade in the System update screen. No gear icon, it just check for a new update and does not find one even though I have already manually downloaded but now cannot install it. Does anybody have an idea how to do a local upgrade on Android 11?

You could always extract the payload and manually flash

Do you mean by adb sideloading?

Apparently once we get the newest update pushed, the local update option will show up. Gotta wait this first update out unfortunately

[Q] Stop downloading OTA update

Yesterday I received the KitKat update notification. I just set the update to remind me later and today, when I connected to wifi, my phone started to download the update on its own. I dont want to update to KitKat just yet. Can I stop this update from downloading? Or can I just let it download and then not install it?

Once downloaded it will keep asking you to install it.
Are you rooted with superSU. If so install update and it will fail (no harm done). Then you won't be bothered by it again.
Note - if you then manually check for updates it will download the file again and you will have to let it update/fail again to get rid of the notification/reminder again.
I dont have a root. So I can only let it download and the live with the install reminders. Well that kind of sucks.

I know its rubbish that the update is forced upon people. There should be a choice in my opinion.
Root is only option though AFAIK to stop OTA updates one way or another.

[Q] clear OTA or sample update.zip

I downloaded the 5.0.1 update on Nexus 5. But I decided not to install it. I deleted the update.zip from /cache/update.zip. However, now, anytime I go to Settings -> About -> System Updates, it says the 5.0.1 update is downloaded and I need to restart to install it.
When I click on that, nothing happens as OTA file does not exists any more.
Can someone help me clear that mark as I will not get the 5.1 OTA?
or can someone create a simple update.zip for me (which does essentially nothing but does a printf or echo) so Phone will find a zip and it will mark the OTA as successfully installed.
Any help is appreciated.
Shameless bump. Any help to remove the update ready to download and install?

Not sure what you are after. I think it's the notification of an update. I froze updates in the system.
Why don't you download a 5.1 zip to get rid of the problems in 5.01?
You would get rid of the notification too."Lite ROM "is superb and stock, with minimal Gapps. You could change your rom build no. So the updater checks and thinks you are up to date. I'd go for the rom. I'm on it and it's the best lollipop I've had.

Thanks. I am still waiting on before I can put 5.1
So, I was thinking if I flash a standard update.zip (which does nothing except echo) so that I can check for future updates.
This is the best way to get the word on updates! They scan googles Github!

Android/Stock firmware 5.1.1 system update

Hi everyone!
I've just received and successfully installed a system update for Android 5.1.1 and it says exactly zero about itself. Even Android's version hasn't changed.
Does anyone have any idea what it fixes? I surmise it fixes two recent holes but 10MB sounds a little too much for that.
I also got but nothing happened

I got it, I'm updating manually since for some reason my phone never wants to update the regular way.
It addresses the Stagefright vulnerability
How can I apply this update manually?
It doesn't apply automatically - there are no errors, nothing. I've rebooted my phone three times already and it wants to install it again.

flash it through ADB
I use this thread as reference just to make sure I don't miss any step but there are a few others threads like this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-update-rooted-device-to-5-1-lmy47d-t3050789
OTA install error
I got the OTA notification to download & install the Stagefright patch. Every time I try to install it, it says "error!" shortly after it starts to install and shows the android with a red exclamation point.
My nexus 5 is stock & unrooted.
Any idea what's causing this and how to force the install? If not, I can sideload OTA with ADB later tonight.
Thanks!
I think the build number should have changed to LMY48I.

adb fastboot
I've had my first freeze and first complete blackout since this small update
This should be the monthly update mentioned on main page
This update is worthless: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/0...efright_fix_wont_be_resolved_until_september/
I will skip it.

HW2 4g how to upgrade android wear

Hi all
I am very new to android. I got the HW2 4g version from China and flashed to international rom. I have seen the news that android wear updated to 2.9 but mine is still 2.0. Will we get the update from Huawei or play store? As I am currently connecting to an iphone, I can't find any android wear update on the play store in watch. How should people update their android wear on HW2? from system update on the watch or adb install apk?
Model LEO-DLXX
Build number N7176C
Android wear 2.0.0.166801816
Google play service 11.9.75(530-182402865)
Android OS 7.1.1
Security patch level August 1, 2017
Thank you very much.

Android Wear on the watch should be getting updated from the play store, it usually happens for me when i leave it to charge, but mine is paired to an Android phone running Oreo 8.1 so it might be slightly different for you.
You could always sideload the latest apk over adb - I done this for android wear 2.9 because it took a while to roll out here in Ireland.
Download the SDK Platform Tools from google for your computer (I'm assuming windows)
Extract the platform tools archive somewhere like your desktop where you can find it easily
Put the Android Wear apk into that folder too
Open command prompt to that folder
Plug your watches' charger into the computer and place your watch on the charger
Run the following command to check if your watch is connected:
Code:
adb devices
Run the command below to install the apk
Code:
adb install -r <name of apk downloaded.apk>
Thank you very much. Very clear instruction. I have adb on my laptop and will try manual update tonight. I suspect I didn’t get the update because of iPhone. Just want to confirm update android wear would not impact on future OTA update, right?
Hi EccTM
Just side load the android wear 2.9 baes on your instruction. Super easy and fast.
Thanks you very very much.

hello, I have the exact the same edition of ROM as yours. The problem is that the rom never updated since it was flushed. Did you receive any notification of update your ROm?
thanks

Wear 2.9 is not Huawei update. Wear 2.9 is update from google. You must have google account and must have wifi, data or by connection thru Mobil. Update is possible thru Google play. Nothing more.

Not sure which ROM you flashed. I flashed the factory rom. People said they are getting OTA updates. From memory, I got a couple of updates right after. But I am not 100% sure. Sorry, can't give you a certain answer. One thing I can confirm is that I am still waiting for Oreo.

N7176C, which is same as yours.
I am not sure if you realize that there has been several releases after this edition. it seems that the N7176C is the only global ROM available until now.
I am going to flush back to Chinese edition, to get updated.

Have any of your HW2 4g updated? My watch is still showed Android 7.1.1 and the same build no. I believe N7176C is the latest build.
But this morning have noted some changes to my watch. I went to about to check system update. It shows the same message "System is up to date". But the background is completely black with a blue tick. Previously, the background is green and tick is white. Another difference is a very small circle on the bottom of watch face to indicate unread messages. Did any one notice those changes?

Manually update to One UI 2.1

Hey all.
For whatever reason it has, my phone hasn't gotten the One UI 2.1 and April security patch update yet. I'm having some weird issues with my navigating bar and can't run NavStar to try and fix it unless I'm running the latest version of One UI. I know I can download the latest update manually (got software from this forum that pulls from Samsung's servers, don't remember the name off the top off my head) and flash it using Odin, but I run the risk of wiping my phone if I flash the CSC file.
Is there a way I can download a zip of the firmware update that I can flash from official recovery?
