custom roms and data protection - Sony Xperia 5 II Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am interested in this phone because it fits with my requirements. On top it is handy and has a better SAR-Value than the Pixel ones. I love to custom my phones. Currently I am using the LG G4 (H815) with steadfasterX-"Google-free-LinageOS"-Rom. I want to stay data protection friendly furthermore but I am unsure if this phone will have such custom roms. Are Sony phones custom rom friendly and do you think there will be custom roms like steadfasterX' roms in future?

It is so underwhelming that z3 doesn't have developers support.

i come from note 2 then g2....they both had super developers support....... i feel so bad now such a great phone, such a great hardware ..... but.....
What are you looking for exactly? Do you want a ROM just for the sake of having a ROM? I can honestly respect that if it's what you're looking for. Otherwise, I think we have a lot of options to work around a lot of things these days that just weren't available a few years ago. I also think the argument of Touchwiz and the LG UI are very different from Sony's fairly light customizations.

I kinda agree with greatgrandking. I come from HTC phones and I've used to be a big fan for years. I've got Z3 for my wife and I will get Z4 (or Z3 if Z4 doesn't have microSD) for myself soon because none of the flagships have band support of Z3 Dual.
What I have noticed with Z3 though is minimal custom ROM development. I guess mainly because the phone is fairly new still and I assume that people are not so crazy about unlocking bootloader as is common in HTC land.
I do agree that Sony's UI is not that heavy, however, the number of additional features and customizations available trough ROM development will never make me satisfied with stock ROM for too long.
I come from a HTC One M7, have custom-rom'd the sh** out of it and i'm pretty happy with the Z3 so far, the only thing i'm missing is root.. I COULD root it, but i don't want to yet. By the way, my One had CM12 / Android 5.0.1 on it and i'm hardly missing a feature on the Z3 yet.
Take a look at the razr i, i was so disappointed of the lacking developer support.. But mainly because i was stuck with an old android version and an impractical interface. My HTC Desire HD needed developer support because HTC gave a sh** about android 4 back then. My One M7 needed developer support because of the heavy interface with few possible modifications. The Z3 is the first phone that is great without custom roms. Also, i wouldn't want anything beside stock based roms due to the camera app..
That is the only reason y I haven't unlocked bootloader yet is due to sonys camrea software.
There is not development because there is no root. People don't want to unlock their bootloaders without make a TA backup first.

I haven't rooted yet because there isn't a decent AOSP rom as of today and the benefits of rooting don't outweigh the negatives of losing the DRM keys. As soon as we have a working AOSP rom, especially Lollipop, I'll root right away, with or without DRM key backup. It'll be worth for me then.

Inexperienced user needs help deciding on choosing ROM or stock android

Dear all,
May old HTC M7 died a very wet death last weekend.....
I need a new device and my budget are roughly 150-200 EUR.
I could buy the old S7 of my sister for 150 EUR. The Unit is very clean and has a little warranty left.
My first question is, should i buy it or should i buy a different unit. I would prefer not to spent more than 150 EUR.
If i get it i would need to be able to install an add blocker and have a privacy guard. I really want to controll the rights of certain apps tightly.
Is this possible with a stock rom ( it seems like samsung is going to roll out a 8.0 soon?)
If not, wich custom rom would you advice me to install if i dont´want to loose any features of the phone. The camera is particularly important for me!
I used slimrom on the HTC m7 and i liked itl. The closer to stock android the better, but never at the expense of any functionality.
All the best and thanks in advance
You can't find anything better at 150e than S7. Defintely worth it and camera is great. Stock is pretty good.
Thanks for your answer! Can i still control all apps with a privacy guard ?
The superman rom is pretty much stock in look (but you can customise it how you see fit) and debloated (Choices of apps in installer) and all the functionality of the original touchwiz.(I've been using it for about 2/3 weeks now and it works great.)
It's got the original camera quality and it is very stable in my opinion.
Some other choices that fit your description:
The Galaxy Project
Ultimate nougat
Helios
These roms are all based on the original touchwiz by samsung so will have the features that you want.

Which is the most stable ROM to install and use?

Hi, i just purchased this device during the sale as it represented great value for the price. Anyway, I despise MIUI and colorOS, sadly there are few, if any, decent budget stock android phones. So I would like to install a custom ROM that is the stablest. I've heard both Pixel Experience and Derpfest are stable, but would like to know what ROM would you guys recommend that I use for a stable experience?
Undoubtedly, RN7P (violet) is a great device with plenty of community support.
Pixel and its derivatives are great opton. Unless your focus is on any select features that suit you, most ROMs have more than what you may be looking for and they are pretty much stable. An exception here or there may happen for you know its literally impossible to test a code under all scenarios. But then you have devs support for each ROM when in crisis.
You may explore further by checking more on each custom ROM and its features/change log by clicking
here
A word of CAUTION: Since you plan to install a custom ROM on newly acquired device, be fully aware of the manufacturer warranty which will no more be valid with an Unlocked bootloader. So also, hope you are well versed/comfortable with the procedures involved in achieving it along with its perils.
NOTE: Recommeding any single ROM would be injustice to the rest Explore Thyself...

Which manufacturer has a large Custom Rom community?

I have a OP5 and need to upgrade phones, but not looking to buy another OP. What other phones are available, to the USA market for T-Mobile, that have a community which have lots of custom Roms?
I don't really care about camera quality, I hardly use it, I just want a good daily driver that can be bootloader unlocked and rooted.
No notches and no edge screens.

Xiaomi can also do the trick

Best combination of flagship phone and custom ROM?

For something moderately recent, which flagship phones have a great all-around custom ROM?

Pixel devices will always be popular in the development community and will always be well supported since they are made by Google and android comes straight from Google, a lot of times, with each new android version, Pixel devices tend to get custom development before other devices and possibly more development than other devices.
