hello, I'm new to flashing, and I currently have a F916U(verizon). I want to flash the firmware back to the Samsung OEM one without Verizon bloat and the red screen. should I wait for 60 days for the device to be unlocked from Verizon and then flash it? and can somebody provide me the step to flash it? I don't want to brick the phone. thanks

There is not and 99% chance there will never be a bootloader unlock. Root method no longer works in later versions of android. The bootloader does not need to be unlocked with a custom recovery.
I apologize for not diligently searching as I should, I came across this asking the same more or less as I was.... I have one sitting on lrx22g.g920vvru1a0c3 which if I read the root method correctly I can root... At that point you say that the boot loader doesn't need to be unlocked so I can ( mfastboot flash recover xxxx.IMG ) on a locked boot loader? Or use rashr ? And after which we can ROM it?... Could I then theme it as well? I am coming for Motorola's all I've ever had/used/touched ever.... Running stock do I need to deodex it to be able to theme it? Do we have firmware out there n a tool (like Moto's rsd lite/ house of moto) to flash it with? With unlimited data is there a mobile hotspot mod/hack use utilize the baked I hotspot app? Can I still pull system apps theme um zip um and flash up.... Not having the Sim card yet I can really play with it as I wish to ... I just powered it on and its asking for an update... So I figured it'd try to root it now as there's no unlock for it..... Thank you kindly for your time and information
OE2 is the latest firmware that is rootable. Once rooted, you can flash a custom recovery and load roms through that.
There is a rooted S6 available for sale on swappa right now, just so you know
I was wondering if I could get your help with unlocking my Alcatel onetouch Idol 3 (6045I) after having much difficulty.
I've recently acquired this phone from Bell (wireless Carrier in Canada) and the phone shipped new with Android version 6.0.1. As you are well aware Marshmallow breaks fast boot functionality in the boot loader leaving me unable to perform "fastboot -i 0x1bbb oem unlock".
I've attempted to downgrade the phone using "Mobile_Upgrade_Q_5.0.6_Setup"; however after the process was successful and complete, the phone did not downgrade to version 5 of Android. The phone still had version 6 present as it shipped with this version.
Do you have any suggestions about how I could go about "unlocking" the phone as I need to use a sim card from a different wireless carrier.
Thank you very much for your assistance ahead of time.
Unlocking the bootloader using fastboot commands and network unlocking the phone are two different things.
To use the phone with a non-bell carrier, you must buy an unlock code. I suggest looking on eBay for the cheapest and most reliable unlocker.

Thanks for the assistance. I should have been more clear. I'm looking to unlock the phone so that I can install a stock ROM. I'm also looking to unlock the sim so I can use a Rogers sim card. I've now purchased an unlock code from Ebay and awaiting delivery thanks to your suggestion.
You'll have to downgrade using the Panasonic Eluga software to 5.02, unlock bootloader, flash twrp, and custom rom.

Thank you. The Panasonic software worked. This process has been anything but pain free.
Glad you got it to downgrade.
My idol 3 came with 5.02 and never updated it even though the update was available because I like the idea of customizing the rom if I want to.
Where do you find this software ? Do you have a link ?
Because I found nothing...
These instructions may help to downgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/general/guide-repair-idol-3-t3372076
Thanks
Glad it worked out! Keep a copy of the eluga restore, it had the 5.x version of android inside the download, so now no matter what u can always restore back to a state where unlock+twrp install is possible.

so now that the verizon pixel has been unlocked http://theroot.ninja/depixel8.html
if i unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery (when it's released) will i be able to install factory images from google or will it relock the bootloader? am sure verizon will be patching this soon. so if this makes me stuck on 7.1.1 I won't buy through verizon of course. my old galaxy s4 was stuck on an old bootloader image so i could only use roms up to a certain version. i read a few people stating that they tried to flash the google factory images after and it took, but the depixel tool was still necessary to unlock the bootloader after the install. anyone know this what can and can't be done here?
Might get a better response here http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/verizon-pixel-xl-unlocking-discussions-t3484497
Probably better off not buying from Verizon at all...
Hi guys, I'd really appreciate your help so I can get OEM unlock back on my Samsung S8+ dual sim SM-G955FD here in Canada. I'm on Android 8.0.0.
I've tried many of the methods described on this forum and elsewhere without luck. I've even left my phone charging for over a week, with and without a sim. Also no luck.
My guess is that since the model of my phone is not a model imported into Canada by Samsung, and since I understand Samsung unlocks the OEM security feature by sending a signal, Samsung won't send that OEM unlock signal to an unofficial phone.
This mess started when I unsuccessfully tried to root my phone. I must have made a mistake, so I figured the best way to try again would be to reinstall a stock image. Instead of the original Android 7 I installed Android 8 (which also changed the "Samsung Experience" version from 8 to 9). The phone now happily works, but no OEM unlock and so I cannot root.
Please help me get OEM unlock back on my phone.
Thanks so much
D, stuck in Toronto
Did you succeed

I'm planning to hand me down my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to my sister and I think I made a bone headed decision to do a full wipe using TWRP so it's now in a stock-ish android setting, OEM Unlock is not available in the developer mode even after waiting 7 days and trying to do the software update trick won't worked.
Can I still flash custom ROMs without OEM unlock or I'm more or less screwed?

If you already have a working twrp you shouldn't have any problems flashing

To query bootloader's lock_state you simply run
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot getvar all
