Corrupted recovery(??) and fails reboot to fastboot. - LG V50 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I just bought a LG V50 from China and the seller claimed it to be a 2nd hand Korea KT phone but it's not. The serial number was wipe out and the impl=0.
It got unlocked bootloader warning for every reboot and OTA upgrade fails to find new firmware.
I would like to re-lock the bootloader but fail to enter fastboot mode. The command "adb reboot bootloader" or keys combination only reboot the phone. "adb reboot recovery" success but only gives green robot and no command as shown in attched picture.
I thought a flash of stock ROM may help so I use the lgup tool 1.16 to refurbish the firmware to V500N20t (V500NO20t_00_OPEN_KR_OP_0622.kdz). However, the recovery remain the same and reboot to fastboot mode fails as well.
Is there any way to flash the stock recovery and bring back the fastboot mode to re-lock the bootloader?

You need to flash pie, and then use the xiaomi firehose in qfil to flash the engineering bootloader, then go to fastboot and do the lock command

Hi new68u! It seems you have no experience with LG phones...
Just use LGUP partition mode and flash in partition mode boot_a and boot_b images from different KDZ pack (20M for example) and you will be able to enter fastboot.
Then lock bootloader and go to download mode again and flash the correct boot images from 20T kdz.

Thank you for you hints, it's a bit complicated to me.
I download the pie firmware V500N11d_00_LGU_KR_OP_0701.kdz, qfil tool, prog_ufs_firehose_sdm855_ddr.elf file.
Before I downgrade the phone to pie, I try to launch qfil, select port, select ufs, load the xiaomi firehose, then select "load xml" but I can't find the rawprogram().xml and the patch().xml.
I browse through some topcs and find out those 2 files need to be rebuild by extract the firmware. That's even more complicated. Am I still on the correct approach?

You're right, it's my first LG phone. I launch the LGUP but I can't find the "partition" option. Any hints?

Thanks! I successfully write the boot_a and boot_b partitions from two difference kdz files, however, the "adb reboot bootloader" still fail to enter fastboot mode and only reboot the phone. :crying:

You need to flash boot_a from one kdz, and then all partitions from another kdz to make boot and other partitions mismatch. Use partition dl. You might have to do it for both slots. However, I'm not sure if the normal fastboot allows the lock bootloader command

Please correct me if I misunderstood anything:
1) prepare 20o and 20t firmware
2) use lgup to load 20t and refurbish -> all 20t partitions goes to partition a
3) use lgup to load 20t and write boot_b -> boot_b becomes 20t
4) use lgup to load 20o and write boot_a -> boot_a becomes 20o
5) use lgup to load 20o and write all partitions with ***_b -> ***_b becomes 20o
6) reboot

Then either boot image is very similar to t or LGUP fails to overwrite it.
Try with boot image from older kdz as suggested initially - 20M

Brilliant! I use an even older 11d kdz and the fastboot is back!
I lock the bootloader and reboot, the phone goes to boot loop. After go to download mode and rewrite the boot_a&b partition back to 20t, it can bootup successfully.
Thanks so much!!! :good:
BTW, is there any way I can retrieve the serial number of my phone, it was empty from the day I got it.

It is actually there, but fails to initialize properly because of whoever cross-flashed it wrong - just do not bother about S/N.
P.S.: To restore it successfully you need to unlock again bootloader and re-flash an edited FTM partition under fastboot which is a painful process, so better way - just do not bother about SN not showing.

DOWNLOAD stock firmware (update.app) extract from it Recovery.img system.img boot.img cache.img cust.img.and userdata.img. then turn your mobile in fastboot and connect to usb, open CMD in PC and write CD "path to adb.exe", when you are there, copy extracted files there too and write in CMD this lines:
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
fastboot flash system SYSTEM.img
fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
fastboot flash cache CACHE.img
fastboot flash cust CUST.img
fastboot flash userdata USERDATA.img

1. Stay calm.
1.a You cannot root your phone without unlocking bootloader.
1.b. You will need to do a thorough reading of how to unlock bootloader from threads in this forum or else where. You will also need to read and understand the process of fastboot mode of flashing stock firmware.
2. Since you are able to enter fastboot mode connect your mobile to your PC with your USB chord, open the minimal adb fastboot mode, try to get the unlock key, visit Motorola site and get your bootloader unlock key. There are other threads explaning how to do this. Download the correct stock firmware identified based on the phone model no. Eg xt1550 dual sim and store it onto your PC, you will also need the minimal adb fastboot file, Motorola drivers, twrp3.0., SuperSU 2.62-3 ( no other version of SuperSU works, only this version)
3. Once you unlock your bootloader, flash the stock firmware which you need to download from other thread of this forum using fastboot mode. Note, marshmallow 6.0.1 has 7 sparsechunk files. So be careful about fast boot commands. Do not use the commands you find on the stock firmware thread blindly as these have commands only for 6 sparsechunk files. You may open the flash file from the downloaded firmware to get an idea of all the commands to be typed and their respective partitions too.
4. Flash twrp to replace stock recovery. Enter recovery from fastboot mode using volume keys to navigate and powerkey to select.
5. Once into twrp, press mounts tab and tick to mount USB storage, and copy the SuperSU 2.62-3 file into the external memory card of your phone from pc. Install this SuperSU.zip file without unzipping it by pressing the install tab in twrp home screen and selecting the zip file and sliding the installer.
6. Reboot system. Done! You have your phone rooted the perfect way.

Dear friend,
You need not have your bootloader unlocked to flash factory firmware
Quote from the XDA forum factory firmware link:
"Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I restore Factory Firmware if my Bootloader is locked?
Yes."
And if you are still stuck with a phone stuck at logo or is looping at the boot, either follow steps given elsewhere in this forum or follow the method that I am enumerating below which is what I would have done (which in principle is same as given elsewhere).
Getting your phone revived is your first priority. Unlocking bootloader and rooting is secondary.
You would be needing a pc with administrator privilege, internet connection and of course your phone along with the usb cable.
You would be needing the drivers for your phone, minimal adb and fastboot files, stock firmware for your phone model. All these files are available in the XDA forum as per links provided by others or as per this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/guide-fastboot-flashing-factory-t3187750
1. Correctly install drivers onto your pc using administrator privileges.
2. Unzip and Install the minimal adb and fastboot files onto your pc into some specific directory and click the executable files once. This would ensure that all the files are loaded and dos prompt recognizes the adb and fastboot commands (commands are different for ADB stage and FASTBOOT stage, what you are going to use is directly the fastboot stage commands given below). Install as an administrator. Note this specific directory and file where you unzipped and installed the minimal adb file as you will need it in the below step.
3. Download the stock 6.0.1 mm firmware for XT1550 from the link below store it in you pc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639
Unzip the stock firmware. Now copy all the files of the stock firmware (all of them) into the specific file of the minimal adb and fastboot which you unzipped into and installed earlier and noted the location. You need to copy all the firmware files into the minimal adb and fastboot directory as that way you avoid specifying the location of the files for each flash command which is both simple and saves us from a lot of mistakes.
4. After copying all the unzipped stock firmware files in the minimal adb fastboot directory, press the shift button on keyboard and right click the mouse on the screen where in a dialogue box appears and choose to open the command prompt in this directory. This will open a command prompt with default reference to the current directory.
5. In what ever condition your phone is in (other than the fastboot mode), press simultaneously the volume down key + power button together for about 8-10 secs. This action will automatically lead your phone to enter the fastboot mode. After entering the fastboot mode you can connect the phone to your pc using a usb cable and your pc should ring a note that it has detected the phone. To check if the pc has detected the phone and the link is established, type the following command in the command prompt window which you opened in step 4
fastboot devices
This command displays your device number if all is well in the command prompt window. NOW you are ready to flash the stock firmware I.E. after successful detection of the phone by your pc.
6. Carefully type each and every of the commands in italics or copy and paste them ONE by ONE and wait for each command to be executed. The commands are being given below to help you (these are for flashing the 6.0.1mm onto the XT1550 only) in the opened command prompt window (Ensure that you do not miss any of the commands and follow the order given below) :
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
If you have done every thing correctly till now you should see the command prompt returning a OKAY afer each command with the time taken for flashing each file. This should revive your device first.
After this you may try unlocking the bootloader and rooting as the next step. But be patient and retain a cool head to read first and think clearly..... you will need it a lot as is necessary for such things... good luck and happy learning!!
Follow the instructions in this thread ...to unlock bootloader and root...
Works 100%.

The commands are being given below to help you (these are for flashing the 6.0.1mm onto the XT1550 only) in the opened command prompt window (Ensure that you do not miss any of the commands and follow the order given below) :
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
If you have done every thing correctly till now you should see the command prompt returning a OKAY afer each command with the time taken for flashing each file. This should revive your device first.
After this you may try unlocking the bootloader and rooting as the next step. But be patient and retain a cool head to read first and think clearly..... you will need it a lot as is necessary for such things... good luck and happy learning!!

My internet is not fast enough for a video upload sorry. But if you are not sure about the process you can search lost101's firmware flashing guide in general section. I have flashed it and it works.

I want to flash stock rom in fastboot for my Oneplus 7 pro but I don't want to erase

so as the title suggests, my oneplus 7 pro is now stuck at fastboot and my only hope is on the img files from the unpacked payload.bin. but now after I extract it, i heard some of the img files are used to clear the user, data etc, can someone tell me which one is which?
The guide I followed:
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...actory-images-android-using-fastboot-0175277/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/how-to/guide-how-to-extract-payload-bin-ota-t3830962
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
the first link seem to be outdated since most of the img files it talked about don't exist but although the third link isn't, it told me how to flash each file, but my problem is that I don't want to lose my data, can someone tell me which img file is used to erase data? thanks a lot

it's kinda obvious, flash-all is flashing after all if ur bootloader is locked, how do u flash?
Note: This is for soft bricks only.
soft brick = can access fastboot or recovery
hard brick = no boot, black screen boot. etc.............
I found myself on OB4, tried to sideload another build and got stuck. Tried to boot into TWRP, no bueno, now what? I didn't want to use MSM tools and go though that whole process again. I've saved many of my devices with Linux, by just flashing the img files through fastboot commands. So if your comfortable with the command line this is easier then using the flash tools that relock your bootloader. This also works with Widows, so I remembered the files the fastboot flasher flashed, and just flashed them manually, you just need flash to the correct partition. So, if it's a boot img, then flash boot, and system flash system, and so on. List of files that I flashed.
First you'll need payload dumper, to extract files from payload.bin file inside whatever OTA, you want to flash. It will extract to a folder called payload_output, from there you can click and drag to command line.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850510260
I also provided a copy of my script, you'll need to edit to your files path. And save as .bat, .cab, or .exe...........
Commands I run before flash
fastboot format system
fastboot format userdata
1. boot.img
2. dtbo
3. modem
4. odm
5. qupfw
6. storsec
7. system
8. vbmeta
9. vendor
10. fastboot reboot
If device boots to recovery which should be stock, just wipe everything and you should boot into system without a problem.

Question I do everything correctly to root but it keep booting in to the bootloader

My steps
1. oem unlock and unlock bootloader with the command
2. get the files from lmsa
3. Patch boot.img using magisk
4. Flash boot.img and vbmeta.img
5. Reboot using fastboot reboot
It should boot me normaly but it boots in to the boot loader

I can't tell you anything specific about this device. I own other.
If there is TWRP for your version of Android, flash Magisk.zip from TWRP.

who told you to flash vbmeta.img?
You should flash patched_boot.img in fastbootd
You need to edit out vbmeta.img / vbmeta_system.img to actually disable verification. Change the byte at offset 123 from 0x00 to 0x03.
Another way is to use the following command when flashing vbmeta. You may need to use a relatively newer version of fastboot binary to get it work.
Code:
fastboot flash --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta vbmeta.img

Which Magisk version did you use? From what I can tell any official Magisk version should work.
I haven't really tested the recent builds of vvb2060's Alpha or huskydg's Delta... so if you're using these versions I can't really help you much...
Additionally, you need to check which slot you are now, and through fastbootd check which slot actually has system, vendor and such. Normally the super partition only has enough size for one slot. You may have entered a wrong slot that doesn't have usable system.

I'm on F18 with root and I want to upgrade to F20. Is there an LE2115_11.F.18 full rom by any chance. I can flash this and then upgrade to F20. I don't mind being without root for the time being

When you rooted did you do fastboot flash or fastboot boot and then direct install in Magisk app?
I did the following:
Fastboot boot "patchedbootimage".img
Fastboot flash boot_a "patchedbootimage".img
Fastboot flash boot_b "patchedbootimage".img

Then you can't restore your original boot image from Magisk. You should only ever do fastboot boot and then use direct install in Magisk. Unfortunately the latest full rom available for your device is LE2115_11_F.17, so I think your only chance is that someone share a stock F18 boot image so that you can flash it and then update.

First command, you booted the patched boot image. All good. From there, install/open Magisk app and then select direct install option, and Magisk will automatically back up the stock boot and then flash the rooted boot.
Second commands shouldn't have been run.

Here is the stock unrooted F.18 boot.img. Make sure to extract it first.
So I was able to remove root by first following the same commands I used to root in the first place with the boot image you provided. However, I cannot update to F20 using the system update. It keeps failing
Ok, this time, you have to flash this unrooted boot.img that I provided. NOT just boot it like you do when trying to root. The system will check the flashed boot.img then proceed with OTA.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot, then try OTA update.
When you have the latest F.20 successfully booted, if you want root, you can get that boot.img through MSM readback feature. Or, I have F.20 boot.img too, and you can ask for that.

The MSM Tool for Global thread is here, but the download link in first post is incomplete. You can download the full tool from here. Make sure to download the correct package. The global one also works for LE2110 (the Chinese model).
So you have flashed my boot.img, and then you are updating from where? Through system update OTA, or from zip file downloaded with Oxygen Updater app?

Why do you always "fastboot boot......" and then "fastboot flash boot...."?
Generally, fastboot boot.... will make you phone boot up the given image temporarily (whether it's a boot image or a bootable recovery image). Whereas, fastboot flash boot.... will permanently flash the given image. Normally, you only have to go with one of these methods depending on your task/goal.
Anyway, since you have flashed the stock unrooted boot.img and OTA is still failing, I suggest you just back up your personal data (photos, stuff) to PC or whatever, and then go with the MSM tool method. It will wipe all your data on phone, and revert your phone to OOS11 with locked bootloader. From there, you can take OTA updates all the way upto OOS13 F.20. This seems to be the simpler way to get out of your current predicament.
How to use MSM tool:
1. Download the package according to your device/variant, and extract it.
2. Power off your phone and keep it aside. DO NOT connect your phone to PC for now.
3. Run the MSM tool exe. It will take a couple of minutes to load.
4. Click on Target drop-down menu and choose O2 if you are on Global.
5. Click Start. It will go to Waiting for Device mode.
6. Now on your phone (which should already be powered off), press & hold both the vol+ and vol- buttons (NOT the power button) and connect the data cable from PC to your phone. Your phone's screen will still stay black and it will enter EDL mode.
7. The MSM tool will start flashing as soon as the connection is successful.
Note: You need to have OnePlus device drivers on PC.
I appreciate the support. Can you also provide me with the F20 boot image by any chance.
Sure. Stock unrooted F.20 boot.img attached. Make sure to unzip it.
By the way, if you have MSM tool, you can get your current boot.img from its readback feature. Super simple. Launch MSM tool. Press F8. Select the desired boot image (boot_a or boot_b). Enter the password as: oneplus. Click read. Power off phone, and get it into EDL mode by pressing holding vol- vol+ buttons then connecting data cable from PC. The desired boot.img will be dumped in C: drive.
Also, F.21 has just been released, so you better update to that. I haven't yet as I am currently on crDroid.
Anyway, F.20 boot has been attached.
Hello sir Can I get F.21 boot
vendor boot
dtbo
there're no FULL package out there for Global variant
Just only incremental update
How can I get that Full Image?
Or Should I extract it from India Variant Full Image F.21
will It work normally?
