Call & Text on other devices on US VZW - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Has anyone got Samsung Call & Text on other devices working on Verizon devices?
I really want this feature on my phone and my tablet Verizon Galaxy Tab S7+.
Thanks

I installed the apk on my note 10 plus. Only one version would install, 2.1.00.48.
I was able to enable it on my phone, but it still doesn't work.

It doesn't work on AT&T or Verizon.

We know, we were hoping to make it work, sort of like enabling Samsung cloud.
I can text from my tablet with call and text from other devices enabled, but I can't receive text. The phone doesn't work at all.

The only way you will get it to work is to flash the unlocked firmware on your Note 20 Ultra. I have the Unlocked Note 20 Ultra being used on Verizon and the S7+ wifi. The Call and Text on other devices work flawlessly. The only thing you will lose is Verizon Video Calling. I have wifi calling and visual voicemail.

Oh, this is a good news for me. I honestly don't use the Verizon Video Calling. Do you have the link for the unlocked firmware for Note 20 Ultra?
Do you know if there is an unlocked firmware for Tab S7+ Verizon?

You can find the unlocked for the 20 in this forum. No idea about the tablet. Cannot cross flash that I bet. You will have to use the Verizon Messages app for text and calls on both then.

I downloaded the 2.1.00.48 package last night from APKMirror, installed it and got my S8 and Tab S6 working on Verizo-crap! First go, didn't appear to work when I tried calling. Uninstalled and issue was still there, where I then noticed my Network Type had changed. Reset the connection, tested Calling, Ok. Tried install again, checked Calling and it Works! Tried Messaging but it wasn't initially working. Tried again a few hours later and it Works! I believe the SMS Cache was being created for the S6 and not in sync with the S8 on my first try. Couldn't believe it, but it's all working. Have to thank insights I got on this forum and others. I'm in the US in the Chicagoland area. S8 is running on 9, Tab S6 is running on 10.

Will only work with unlocked firmware. You can convert your Verizon Note to unlocked firmware. Just do a search it is very easy.

My phone is paid off? I believe it is unlocked. Or is there a certain type of Unlocked Firmware that I need to Download?

You need to use odin and the newest unlocked firmware to convert your Verizon Note to and Unlocked Note. Unlocked device not Carrier unlocked. There are threads that explain doing this in this forum.

Alright! That sounds awesome! I really appreciate it. I came from 8 years with Crapple and finally said I am done. But with Android Software, there is so much to do and so easy to mess something up. I kind of miss the simplicity of the Apple. I just like how smooth everything worked on apple. Now I am having to go through all this stuff just to sync my Samsung Messages. Like really.
Thank you for all your help. If I need anything with this, I am coming to you, is that ok?

Everything you need is in the Guides, New and Discussion forum Section. Just look in there. You will not need me. I buy unlocked so I do not have to do that. If your Samsung tablet is a Verizon branded one this will not work and you will need to use their messaging app. It will only work with the Wifi tablets.

Smart call and other Samsung features?

I've been combing the forums and I haven't been able to find an answer to my question, sorry if it's been posted before and I didn't see it.
So I'm making the switch from a Verizon Galaxy S8+ to an AT&T Note 8. I know Verizon blocked a bunch of Samsung features and I wanted to know if they're available on the AT&T variant? My Note 8 won't be delivered until 10/18 so I'm just preparing myself. Lol
Features I really want:
-Smart Call (I know this is deactivated on almost every carrier)
-Samsung Cloud
-Device Maintenance
Does the AT&T dialer have the nearby places feature? I haven't been able to tell from any videos I've found and I haven't been able to go into a carrier store to see a demo unit.
I was able to get all of these features on my Verizon S8+ by flashing the regular U1 software, but I lost all of the Verizon features I needed (Visual Voicemail, WiFi Calling, and carrier billing for Play Store). So i'm wondering if it would be worth it for the Note 8? Or are the features I'm inquiring about enabled on the AT&T variant?
I saw some people were saying they were having LTE and WiFi calling issues with unlocked devices on AT&T so I'm a little weary of flashing the unlocked version onto it.
Thanks in advance!
Samsung Cloud and device maintenance are both on AT&T.
Not sure what smart call is.

Awesome! 2 out of 3 features is good.
Basically just the Caller ID feature built-in by Samsung. I doubt it would make the cut as carriers usually charge for it as a premium service and they don't want Samsung to provide it for free.
It also adds a "Places" section in the stock dialer. I know that specific feature was also available in the T-Mobile S8+ when i had it briefly, but for some reason was removed by Verizon.

That's what i think i'm going to do. And i didn't realize exactly how much bloatware is on the AT&T version so i'll be flashing the unlocked version on it today.
Did you flash the regular, unbranded one or the AT&T version? Which features did you lose?

I flashed the regular, unbranded version. Only thing I noticed I lost was Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE which I can live with. Didn't realized there was an Unlocked AT&T version of the firmware, might give that a go but I've got my phone set up perfect enough that I might be too lazy to do that hahhaha.

I have the same crap coverage in my house too. So i use Wi-Fi Calling all the time. There is the AT&T Call Protect app that in essence does the exact same thing as the Smart Call (I'm using that too)

True, I saw that's it's powered by Hiya, which is the same app for the smart call. Mine just doesn't seem to be working. I've gotten 3 spam calls already and that app hasn't shown anything. AT&T should just let that service go and use the built in Smart Call lol
For now, I just installed the actual Hiya app so i can get a popup along with the call to see who's calling. Gonna just flash the AT&T version of the unlocked software!
Yeah, AT&T's Call Protect never worked for me either.
Where can i find the unlocked att firmware?
Call protect is working for me. The other day I had a random number call and it labeled it as a telemarketer right by the number. From there you can block the number from ever calling again and additionally it is automatically setup to block potential fraud calls.
AT&T Call Protect has been working for me too, I have been getting a ton of calls and it always labels them as potential fraud and auto blocks it and i also get them labeled as telemarketer a lot.

Unlocked Version on Sprint

I cant seem to find out. Will the unlocked version work on Sprint. I get a much better deal if I preorder the unlocked version, but I'm on Sprint
The previous ones did, so I don't see why not. It supports Sprint's CDMA bands. That's the one I ordered. Pretty confident that it'll work.

Sprint firmware? I ordered the base Note 10 unlocked and got a Sprint sim card for it directly from Samsung using their Galaxy forever program. I can trade it every year and basically be paying 1/2 the cost of a new one. It will ship on 9/4. The Note 10+ is just way to big for my small hands. I'll keep my Note 9 as a backup, traded the Note 8, and the Note 9 will be used when I need higher specs. I do like the thinness of the base Note 10 as well. Looking forward to it.

I too ordered the Note 10 as + would be too big When you get your new phone and put in Sprint sim, check to see if you have anything missing, feature wise(WiFi calling, VoLTE). If you don't then you are fine, if you do, then flashing Sprint firmware is an alternative.

Hmm, WiFi calling is built into the system, so there should not be an app needed here. Did you transfer your data, settings from your previous phone? Maybe that device had wifi calling app which got onto your new device and somehow conflicts with the current settings

Unlocked on T-Mobile

Hi!
Hey any functionality lost by using the unlocked version on T-Mobile ?
Thanks
When speaking to Samsung about this, they told me all T-Mobile bands are supported including 5G on the unlocked versions. What you may lose is video calling (who cares) and possibly wifi calling. But in the past I've seen threads were talking to higher-level techs at T-Mobile can enable those features.
I noticed Samsung checkout page didn't ask if you need a SIM for the unlocked phone. In the past it would give you an option. So curious if you will need to go to the store for a SIM.
Thanks . Video calling is big with me . Rats
My Note 9 was unlocked from Samsung but video calling and Wi-Fi calling work fine. Not sure about this phone though.
Won't you just be able to flash the T-Mobile firmware via Odin if you get the unlocked? Then you get the best of both worlds. This is what I did with my Note10+. Got the Unlocked from Samsung then used Odin to get the official T-mobile firmware.

I currently use an unlocked note 10+ on tmo that isn't flashed. The only limitation is that I cannot do tmo-to-tmo video calling. It may simply be a setting on my end but I never looked into it as there are so many options. Everything else works fine and I seem to get every update at the same time.

TMO user with S20 Ultra here. Don't use video calling so I could not say. Wifi calling works.
Third party VVM apps do NOT work and TMO's downloadable visual voice mail app is garbage IMHO.
When I put my VZW sim in the same phone the Samsung VVM app works beautifully.
Unlocked S20 Ultra 512GB here.
"5G" works on TMO where there is coverage however the speed tests show LTE as connection type. Interestingly enough some of the speed tests actually show 5G. Not sure what's going on with that. Have reached over 200Mbps down on TMO "5G" a few times. Most of the time it's the same speed as LTE. Don't care, it works, hot spot works nice too.
If you were to (properly) flash TMO firmware (in theory) it SHOULD make your phone just like a TMO bought phone including the cheesy jingle when booting up. Never tried it, I like the slim as possible approach. Plus the ability to drop in a VZW sim and it just works IS a MUST for me.

Only if you use TMO's downloaded app which is utter $4!+ IMHO.
I hate it so much I just dial in to listen the old fashioned way. I screen calls anyhow so the ONLY time it rings I know who is calling so not really a big deal. If callers don't have the secret PIN they get hung up on! F robos!
What about roaming on T Mobile partner network? Will I get a network on my UNLOCKED Galaxy Note 20 Ultra if I am roaming on US Cellular or any TMobile partner Network?
Will my Unlocked Galaxy Note 20 Ultra support all 5G bands from TMobile? (Low, Mid and High ) Layer Cake so to say.
What about SA 5G (Stand Alone 5G) that TMobile just launched. Will the Unlocked Galaxy Note 20 Ultra support it?
Sprint frequencies
I'm mostly concerned about the Sprint frequencies T-Mobile is picking up.

Unlocked Pre-Order from Samsung w ATT SIM - will I be able to use WiFi calling /VoLTE

Current Note8 user on ATT (phone locked to carrier). I pre-ordered a Note20 Ultra from Samsung direct, unlocked version. Have been off XDA really for a couple years and not rooting/modding much lately but have read that ATT will not allow unlocked phones on their network to use WiFi Calling and/or VoLTE. If true, are there workaround options for me (assuming I stick w ATT as the carrier I mean) to get these to work, or should I cancel the unlocked model and order the ATT version? Was hoping to root eventually and remove bloatware / play w custom ROMs again on the Ultra etc etc. - that is why I ordered an unlocked version.
Thanks gents for the guidance here! Best forum around for us phone geeks

That's bizarre. I am rethinking this unlocked route. I must have wifi calling since signal at the house is terrible in my area. I don't need the drama of uncertainty if this will work or not. Might as well cancel the unlocked one and just upgrade via att. Oy. Wtf is with att these days? They lost my directv account last year and now their wireless policies are looking like a royal pita.
I don't think you have to worry .... ATT seems to consistently allow Samsung unlocked devices to have carrier functions
You just have to flash the U CSC as mentioned above. Worked for me on Note 10 and is currently working on a s20 ultra device

I strongly recommend switching your order to the ATT model. I got my note 10+ unlocked based off the suggestions found here saying that flashing the att firmware would give me all the features, and I've been through a year of headaches.
For a little wile i was able to enjoy wifi calling, voicemail and VOLTE, but after my first software update the features were lost. i was able to get them back briefly by putting my sim back in an old Att phone and keeping it for a day or two, but that trick never lasted past a week. I've tried re-flashing the software, switching back to unlocked and then back to ATT, basically anything i could think of and it never worked.
calling ATT didn't help either, as the reps gave me a canned line about not supporting outside phones. the whole reason I'm updating to the 20 ultra is to just get my phone fully functional with an ATT model

Thanks darth. Yeah, I switched to the att version. Hate the hidden tracking bloatware etc that comes with it but must have a very workable phone for daily work calls and wifi calling is a must. No drama is my motto these days. Thank you for reporting your experience.
I had the same situation with my unlocked Pixel 4 XL, keep calling ATT until I got the right person to modify my sim to allow WiFi Calling to work, that's my plan when I get my unlocked 20 Ultra.
I'm not a gent, but I doI have the Note 20 Ultra in for review and am using it with an AT&T SIM. VoLTE works, no option for WiFi calling.

What worries me is the 5G. Will unlocked work for ATT 5G?
It does on my unlocked Galaxy S20+ 5G. The Note 20 Ultra is a ways to release and their system doesn't yet correctly identify the IMEI, so I can't say for sure what will happen after release day.

Hi Lisa,
Your reviews are the best, so thank you first of all. Can you check if it has any eSIM capabilities? Supposedly S20 was going to get an update to allow eSIM use in US but that never happened...
Thanks . I'm not seeing anything under connection settings on our US unlocked Note 20 Ultra (there's no IMEI listed or cellular network option listed under connection settings when no nano SIM is installed. EsimClient is running on the phone, which makes me think the hardware must be there. EsimClient is not running on my GS 20+ unlocked.

Great, thank you for checking and comparing with S20+ !
eSIMClient running gives me hope that we will get eSIM support in an update...Still perplexed how or why Samsung has gone out of the way to disable eSIM on US variants when Apple, Google support it.

Ha! Thanks Lisa (love your tech vids!!) - I switched to the ATT version. Supposed to be here 8/21. I can't take a chance with wifi calling being borked, or that just that I may need to Odin-flash updates or CSC packs periodically to keep up with the monthly patches (ie force an unlocked unit to keep working on ATT's network if my previous firmware gets overwritten etc. I mean). I guess as I got older I went from a tech pioneer and adopter to just an end user LOL.... I just need it to work. Maybe I can do that package remove thingy and chop the bloatware periodically... we shall see once the community gets these units and starts their dev magic for us.
I guess I will need to make an appt at the local ATT store in a week to get on a new 5G plan from my current 4G one to take advantage of the coming speeds.
You're welcome- glad you enjoy our vids! With AT&T, you can simply change your plan online, no need to visit a store. The mid and high tier unlimited plans include 5G.

I flashed my unlocked Note 10 plus and didnt get wifi calling, visual voicemail, VOLTE.....only reason I am up grading is to get an ATT version, and to skip all the hassle of an unlocked version. Never again.

Could you tell me more. I have the US unlocked note 20 ultra, I put an AT&T sim in (from my note 9 unlocked) and I can't find an option to turn on wifi calling. I pretty much gave up on feature like this, because I would rather have the unlocked phone, but if it works now maybe I am missing something.
Thanks

OnePlus 8 5G UW on Visible Wireless

I've been offered a pretty good deal on the Verizon version of the phone, but I don't have an IMEI to run through Visible's compatibility checker. Their website lists the 8 and 8 Pro versions as being compatible but doesn't specify any exceptions.
I'm hoping someone has tried the Verizon version of the 8 on Visible and can chime in and tell me it works fine! I will of course run the IMEI once I have the phone in my hands, but I like to know what I'm getting into ahead of time.
TIA!

You are awesome! Thank you for checking. I can buy the unlocked one, but I'd like to have the option for Verizon 5G if Visible offers it at some point or I switch back to Verizon.
You'd think that Verizon phones would have no problem working on Visible, but I have many and literally none of them work. My main driver is also a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and it works flawlessly on Verizon but will not even hint at connecting to Visible.

I bet if you where to put a visible sim in, then update your apn settings it would. Does the Xiaomi have a CDMA radio in it?

Yeah I've tried everything. Anything I could find that gave me a chance to get it working I tried, but no luck. My wife's iPhone is already on Visible so I've been using her SIM to test with.
It's ok though. I'm happy to upgrade to the new phone for a good deal, sign up for a cheaper plan and also gain the option for 5G.
