Hi all,
First of all, I'm new here, so let me know if this should go somewhere else.
So, I'm on the sad countries that only get the LTE version (8 GB RAM / 256 GB Storage / Exynos), I just wanted to know if any of you had that version and could tell me how is it performing?
My main questions are regarding battery (does it perform better maybe than the regular exynos because of no 5G, and how is the battery life on 120 hz vs 60hz) and performance (any issues with the lower RAM, does Dex work?), but I'm also worried about all the overheating and dim screen reports.
For context, I'd be jumping from a Note 9, and i could get the Note 10+ if I wanted, but was kinda looking forward to the lower latency for the Spen, improved cameras and screen. Also, I don't game much, at most Pokemon Go/Masters, I mostly do a lot of browsing, Reddit and Youtube.
Any comments are appreciated!

Hi, I am planning to buy the Galaxy Note and came across an article on Galaxy Note 2. (I can't post the link as a new user. It is on Android.gs Geeks under the title "Samsung Galaxy Note 2 release date to be mid December, 2012"
I can wait until December if the Galaxy Note 2 will be much faster than the current one. From the rumored specifications, the Exynos 1.4 dual-core chip will be upgraded to 1.4 quad-core. In the computer world, although more software (especially games) are starting to take advantage of multi-cores, the number is still small. Most applications can take advantage of at most dual cores. How is the situation in the Android world? Besides games, how many Android's Apps can benefit from the two extra cores? Can you name a few useful Apps that would benefit from a quad-core processor?
The 5.3-inch is already a bit large. I probably may not be able to handle a 5.65-inch unless Samsung takes a longer Note while keeping the width the same. What is the chance of having the Note 2's width the same as the current Note? Also, what are the advantages of having to move the HD display from 720p to 1080p on such small device (when compared with a laptop)? The non-removable battery is a bit of a turn off.
So, the only reason for me to wait for the Galaxy Note 2 is the possibility that the overall performance will be, say over 15%, better than the current one. How likely will that be?
Any opinion appreciated. Thanks.
So, it's soon going to be time for my annual upgrade. I've gone from a Galaxy S2, to a Moto G, and I'm now thinking about getting an Elephone P7000 (when it's released around April). But, I've been researching and I'm now unsure.
I've found a couple of performance graphs online, and they show that the CPU (an Arm A9) in a Galaxy S2 actually performs better per clock than the A7 in the Moto G. And even more, the A53 (in the P7000) performs around the same as the A9, in fact slightly less in some situations.
From what I've seen on the internet, many android apps only take advantage of one core, with some taking advantage of two, and very few taking advantage of more than that. When I had my Galaxy S2, I had it rooted and (insanely) overclocked to 1.8GHz, so does this mean that the (now ancient) Galaxy S2 performs better than my current Moto G (at 1.2GHz) in general and real world usage, and somehow even better than a brand new A53 at 1.7GHz?
Or does more cores somehow equate to better performance (like, can modern CPUs split up single threaded workloads to be processed by multiple cores?) If they cannot, then was the CPU in my old Galaxy S2 still better than what could be found in a completely modern phone? Each year I find a phone that I can get for about £150 at the time... surely the CPU performance must have improved in that time? And I mean in pure performance... I know the power efficiency has improved a lot, but that doesn't effect me as I always carry a mahooosive power bank with me (for my phone and my laptop).
I want to upgrade my phone (for the better screen, bigger (and removable) battery, more RAM, micro-SD expansion slot, fingerprint scanner and the camera), but all of these are just extra "brownie point" features to me, and I'm not sure if I can justify the upgrade if the CPU isn't even any faster clock for clock. I'm really hoping someone can tell me that I'm wrong about the performance-per-clock (despite the numbers being on arm's website), or someone can tell me how an octa core CPU would provide any actual benefits (when either in a heavy application or just in everyday browsing and usage).
Sorry about the long mass of text, I'm just trying to get my head around how an S2 can be as fast as a modern phone in terms of instructions per clock. Any insights on how androids actually do benefit from octa-core CPU's would be great, as I can't find anything online about it
I was wondering right now after you have used mate 8 for quite some time Would you recommend others to do so?
:fingers-crossed:
Yes. I bought a nexus 6p rooted it and loved it but the moment I picked up the mate 8, I haven't taken the 6p out of its box. And the 6p is a great phone
Yes I would definitely suggest to get one?
Best android phone i ever had but best to try it before purchase to check if the size is Ok.
Aboslutely YES!
I got a 128Gb NXT-AL10.. Installed International firmware, TWRP and rooted.
TOP PHONE!
yep, i think i would have regretted getting the 6P (which i intended to buy at first) when the mate 8´s specs became public
awesome phone and not looking back!
only 3 things to consider:
-can you deal with the size? true, its got a nice screen-to-body ratio with tiny bezels, but its still a big phone!
- secondly, can you arrange yourself with EMUI? and if not, are you willing to tinker with the system to adjust it to your needs and wants?
- lastly, the GPU is "only" mainstream, so if u want highend graphics and are a mobile gamer, u might want to wait for upcoming SD or exynos devices...
on the other hand, if your focus is primarily on battery life, super smooth day to day operation, the fastest mobile cpu on the planet (indeed, even faster than upcoming SD820 and exynos8890!) a HUGE display with superthin bezels and super crisp, clear and vivid colors, then this is definitely for you!
Got a Mocha Gold 4/64gb version and I simply love the phone. Since I have been using Mi Note Pro before, I do not see whats wrong with Huawei's EMUI (albeit tons of complaints web-wide).
Not too sure about mainstream reviews, but mine came along with a rapid charger and flip case+generic screen protector. Some online reviews were *****ing about not having the rapid charger in the package.
On the other hand, for the un-initiated, the GPU on the mate 8 may look like crap vs the SD or Exynos. But after testing it on my Mi Note Pro (SD 810 SoC), I discovered the Mate 8 does not throttle (or a little) when compared to it, after prolonged game play.
My Mi Note Pro, starts to heats up really fast and you can tell the throttling a few minutes into GPU intensive games.
I am not sure about Exynos or the latest SD820 SoC devices, but based on Tom's hardwareRead the Article here
Quote:
"Looking at these results adds new context to HiSilicon's decision to use a quad-core GPU in the Kirin 950. By focusing on sustained performance rather than peak performance, a somewhat risky decision from a marketing standpoint, the Kirin 950 actually provides similar, if not better, performance after a few minutes of gameplay as compared to some other high-end SoCs, such as the Exynos 7420 or Snapdragon 810, at least when paired with a 1080p display like in the Mate 8."
In fact I am very pleased with its Antutu Benchmark results, boasting 97k by another member in another thread, with mine somewhere around 92k stock un-modded.
Cheerios!!
Does the Mate 8 have multi-user profiles by default? If not are you able to somehow activate them?
I wouldn't recommend because of the notifications bug. People who don't dive deep into settings will miss emails, messages, etc.
In this case, this is not a mate 8 bug but an android 6 bug.
See posts about nexus 6p and others
I would recommend it to most people. If having the best camera is important to you then I would pass. Everything else is great with the phone except the camera doesn't take sharp enough photos. They look sharp on the phone screen but transfer them anywhere else and you'll see how sharp they aren't compared to other phones.
That's an issue, that hopefully will soon be fixed!

Why you conisder a rooted phone is great .
Hi, I am looking for a smartphone with a display that is at least 7 inches and relatively affordable.
I was hoping to get a Honor X30 Max but that is only for Chinese market. I saw that Huawei had a Mate 20X but that is quite old at this point.
Is there any alternative at this point, or any credible rumor about a similar device coming to European/US markets soon? Thanks.
You can still get a new Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Plus SM-N975U 256GB (FACTORY UNLOCKED) for $800. 4G, 12gb ram variant.
Running on Q. Got one about 3 months ago, it's my second one.
Though its AMOLED display is fixed at 60hz, it's color rendering exceeds many of the newer phones. Supports up to a 1tb SD card.
You can buy used ones for less but you need to be careful, lots of scamming going on.

Thank you, not a 7+ inches though. Although not sure how much difference 6.8 vs 7.2 would make in real life.

An AMOLED vs LCD though make a huge difference. The curved screen takes away some space on the R/L but it has other uses with Samsung's. The spen is also very handy to have mostly for Smart Capture and as a remote shutter release.
It's a 2yo phone but I wasn't pleased with how Samsung or Android 11/12 are evolving so I stuck with what works. It's a fun phone.
Whatever you get, get a good case for it...
I am planning on buying the S22 Ultra so I've been watching YouTube reviews and they were all positive.
Today I saw this post and it made me hesitant about buying the phone. This post is about the Exynos variant while the videos I watched was from American Youtuber so the were reviewing the SD and all of them gave positive reviews except for the Battery life.
You can't make everybody happy and some phones obviously have issues. I have had my SM-S908W (SD) for a couple of months now and have had zero issues. Battery life is good but not great which is likely due to the faster processors and brighter screens on these phones.
Based on everything being reported here, the SD is the better option.
Don't let the haters influence your decision making process. They are a vocal minority and some don't even have first hand experience with the phone.
SD version is the better version, I have no complaints about mine other than the battery life (it kinda sucks)
Luckily we're getting the Snapdragon this time in the middle east, SM-S908E/DS model.
S21 and below were all Exynos !
If you come from z flip 3 like me, you should be feel relieve that s22 ultra has better battery life eventhough both phones are the latest in their very own lineup.
I have the S22U 512GB SD and it's great. I'm coming from a Note 10+. I don't recommend the 128GB version. Go with the 256GB or bigger. The larger capacity storage modules that Samsung uses are faster than the smaller ones.
I'm not heavy user and normally not far from a charger, so the battery hasn't been an issue for me.
I wish Samsung included microSD, but storage hasn't been an issue so far. I have room for all of my apps and my entire music collection (~170GB) and I still have ~250GB of free space. I don't keep my photos and videos on my phone. I offload them to a 16TB regularly for long term storage.

Same with trading in my z fold 3 for the S22u. The fold's battery life definitely took a hit with that huge screen and not being able to store the s pen convinced me the S22u was the was the way to go. Totally happy and I've never looked back.
