Hello everyone,
I've just recently flashed the south african version of the stock lollipop ROM on my old SM-T531 (matisse) that I bought here in Brazil a long time ago, and I also rooted it succesfully with Magisk.
The reason why I did it was that the devices distributed in my country wouldn't get the official update for the lollipop version of the stock firmware, which meant that I would be stuck on KK otherwise.
Firstly, I'd like to publicly thank @thisisapoorusernamechoice who made it all possible with his awesome tutorial.
Secondly, I stumbled upon @lost101 's thread and saw that he had posted several optimized versions of falcon's stock firmware, described as follows:
"Stock Kernel | Debloated | Zipaligned | Rooted | Busybox | init.d Script Support OTA Updates Disabled | Non-essential Motorola Services removed | More RAM available 'Cast Screen' Enabled | Post-install zipaligning (Darky / Fly-On Mod™) | EAP Sim support Stagefright Patched | MultiROM Compatible | Improved Battery Life | Lock-screen rotation"
Based on this, since I couldn't find any optimized stock firmware for the SM-T531 (the closest thing was @Aj.xda 's stock based ROM, I ask if any developers would be into making optimized versions of the stock firmware, recommend me other stock based ROMs that they know of or recommend me any noob friendly tutorials about how to optimize the system myself that they also know of (specially optimizations revolving arround battery duration).

( its a stock deknoxed/deodexed rom for t531).
unfortunately, tab4 (any variants) no built a custom rom without errors. (LL, MM, NOUGAT, etc. etc)

KITKAT (4.4.2 and 4.4.4) ROMs
1. ALL ROMS BELOW ARE CONFIRMED WORKING ON ATT PHONES WITH MK2, NB1, NC1, NI1, or NJ4 BASE WITH SAFESTRAP
2. ROMs confirmed working on STOCK slot ONLY, but FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
3. If ROM uses Aroma Installer... UNCHECK reboot option at end. (This will allow you to go back to safestrap and flash the modules)
4. For non-ATT based ROMs, you may need to configure APN settings for LTE and text messaging to work. (See post #1 for more details)
5. On Verizon based ROMs, if you have an issue connecting to your voicemail, go to phone settings and verify vm number is your phone number and not *86. (thanks @[email protected])

1. Copy Files to ExtSdCard
-- ROM install zip file
-- ATT Kernel Modules zip
-- UPDATE-SuperSU.zip
2. Reboot into Safestrap and Wipe
Wipe --> Advanced Wipe --> check everything except extSdCard
3. Install ROM Zip
Check ROM notes... may need to replace updater-script
4. Install ATT Kernel Modules

How to Replace the Updater-Script
Some ROMs may require the updater-script to be replace to work with safestrap recovery. Check the ROM notes below to see if your ROM is one. (FAQs post has more details on why this may be necessary)
Notes
The updater-script is located in the ROM install zip.
Specifically... \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script
An easy way to edit the zip file is with 7zip. (Its a free Windows program that lets you browse and make changes to the archive without having to unzip and rezip the entire file.)
Step 1
Download and extract the updater-script from the zip file
Step 2
If the file is "updater-script" (with no .txt) you can delete the original in the ROM zip and replace it with the modified updater-script
(If the file is "updater-script.txt", you should be able to just delete the ".txt" extension. Then delete the original in the ROM zip and replace it with the modified updater-script)
Step 2 (alternative)
- Drag the original "updater-script" to your desktop and delete it from the ROM install zip.
- Open both (original and modified) updater files with Notepad++ (another free Windows program)
- Replace the contents of the original updater-script with the contents of the modified updater-script
- Save the "newly edited" original update-script and drag it back ROM install in 7zip
Step 3
All done. Close 7zip and copy newly update ROM install zip to your extSdCard and flash away.

If you took the NB1 OTA...
1. Please follow the NB1 to MK2 Downgrade Method to get back to MK2 before proceeding with the installation.
2. Even using the bypasslkm exploit, you may experience issues with wifi.
Install Instructions for all MK2 users and NB1 users who downgraded:
1. Download ROM install files and copy to extSdcard
2. Reboot into SS recovery
3. If choosing STOCK Slot... WIPE > advanced wipe (everything except extSdCard)
3. If choosing ROM Slot... Delete and recreate ROM slot1 (then verify you are on the ROM slot)
4. INSTALL ROM .zip file
5. INSTALL 'jflteatt-MK2-modules.zip' found in safestrap thread. (Optional if MK2 module is included in ROM)
6. Reboot

MODS, THEMES, AND APPS
PSA... Before applying anything below, I strongly recommend making a backup in Safestrap. Themes and MODs will react differently depending on which ROM and/or base they are installed over. Having a backup will save you a little time in case things go wrong.
How to Backup in Safestrap
1. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery
2. Press Backup
3. Configure backup...
--- Check all 3 partitions (Data, Cache, and System)
--- Uncheck "Enable Compression."
--- Check "Skip MD5 generation during backup."
4. Swipe to Back Up
When finished, backup will be stored on Ext SDcard under... /TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxx/{DATE_ROM_NAME}

RETURNING TO STOCK / ODIN
What is ODIN and how does it work?
Odin is a 3rd party program that can restore your phone to factory settings. Post 5 has a step by step walkthrough for flashing the NB1 base image. (Those wishing to flash the MK2 base can follow the same guide, substituting in the MK2 files linked in post 1.)
I took the NB1 OTA, can I Odin the MK2 files?
No. You can only restore your current base or newer. You cannot go backwards. Two exceptions... MLD leak and NC1 update. Those that flashed the MLD leak can Odin back to MK2. Those that took the NC1 update can Odin back to NB1.
Odin to NB1... from ANY base
Odin to MK2... from MLD, MK2, MF3, or earlier.
That said, if you are on NB1 and would like to flash 4.3 ROMs, you can follow the DOWNGRADING FROM NB1 TO MK2 guide linked in post 1.
RECOVERY
Which recoveries can we use?
If you are on MK2, NB1, or NC1 base, then you have a locked bootloader. SAFESTRAP is the ONLY recovery you can use.
ROMS
I am on ATT with safestrap. Which ROMs can I flash? Does that include i9505 ROMs too?
Every ROM listed in the thread have been confirmed to work with our phone. Yes... There are i9505 ROMs listed in the thread too.
Can I flash AOSP or CM ROMs?
Sure. It's your phone. You can flash whatever you want... BUT IT WON'T WORK. Since our bootloader is locked, we can cannot change the kernel. This means only ROMs that are compatible with the stock touchwiz kernel will work.
What's the deal with the updater-script?
Since Safestrap is designed to work around the locked bootloader, it works a little different that the other recoveries. There is one line that gives Safestrap trouble...
format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p16", "0");
This is where the /system partition lives. While wiping /system is ok, formatting the entire block must delete a file or symlink that safestrap cannot restore.
Check the ROM list. There will be a note if the updater-script needs to be replaced. I have uploaded a copy for your convenience, but you are welcome to edit the script on your own. Instructions for replacing the updater-script are located in post 2.
***FAILURE TO REPLACE UPDATER-SCRIPT, WHEN NEEDED, WILL RESULT IN ENDLESS BOOTANIMATION***
I'm stuck in the bootanimation after flashing a rom... What gives?
Did you wait long enough? Some ROM can take up to 10 min to come up on the initial boot.
Did you forget to replace the updater-script? Endless bootanimation is a symptom of formatting "/dev/block/mmcblk0p16" for safestrap users.
If you don't think the updater-script was the issue, try flashing a previously working ROM. If the other ROM works, it might have just been a bad download. Otherwise or if you know the updater-script was the cause, try restoring a previous backup. If that does not work, your only choice will be to Odin back to stock.
ATT MODULES
Why do I need to flash the ATT Kernel Modules?
Locked bootloader means we are stuck with the stock kernel. In order for wifi to work, we need to make sure the modules in the "/system" partition match the kernel version.
If the ROM you are flashing has the same base as your kernel, you DO NOT need to flash the modules separately.
Which version do I need to flash?
Took NI1 update --> ATT_NI1_modules.zip
Took NC1 update --> ATT_NC1_modules.zip
ODIN NB1 (rootable) --> ATT_NC1_modules.zip -- NC1 Kernel was added to Odin file in order for Towelroot to be compatible.
ODIN MK2 (running KitKat ROMs) --> ATT_MLD_modules.zip -- MLD Kernel is Odin'd as part of the Magic Tool process.
ODIN MK2 (running 4.3 ROMs) --> jflteatt-MK2-modules.zip

NOTE - The NB1 kernel and NC1 kernel are so similar that either module can be substituted.
I flashed the module zip and my wifi is still not working. Did I flash the wrong module?
In System Settings, can you flip the Wifi toggle to the ON position?
If NO, then you do not have the correct modules installed. Please run the script to verify your kernel.
If YES, then the modules are NOT the issue. Double check your wifi password or try reboot your router.
THEMES AND MODS
Why does xxxx MOD work great on yyyy ROM or Stock, but it's not on zzzz ROM?
Each situation is different, but...
1. MOD was built using one base and your ROM is built with a different base.
2. Dev already modified that aspect of the ROM. (ie - Battery icon MOD might not work correctly if dev already baked in his own custom battery icon into his ROM.)

Do I need to use the Deadly Venom KitKat Magic Tool?
The Tool was created to allow MK2 users and NB1 users (who used the downgraded method in order to root) to run KitKat ROMs. Now that towelroot has been released, NB1 users can upgrade to NC1 to root and no longer need the magic tool.
MK2 users will still need to use the tool the first time they flash a KitKat ROM, as well as NB1 users wishing to flash 4.3 ROMs.

ROM INSTALL CHEAT SHEET
1. This cheat sheet is compiled using @muniz_ri and @sac02 threads linked above. If you find it useful, please click their links and thank them.
2. FIRST TIME FLASHERS... Follow @sac02 thread above instead. It contains DETAILED instructions and links to all the files needed.
3. Works for both OC3 and OC4 base... Just stay consistent with the files. (ie - If you flash OC4 ROM and Bootloader, flash the OC4 Kernel and Modules)
Lollipop Cheat Sheet
From Scratch...
1. Odin NB1 Base (rootable version)
2. Install Towelroot and root phone
3. Install SS 3.72 and reboot into recovery
4. Install SuperSU and reboot
5. Set Screen Timeout --> 10 min
6. Install Flashfire and launch
-- Press + for Menu
-- Select... Flash ZIP or OTA

Thanks for the link. It has been added.
I also just tested and verified Hyperdrive RLS12. Installed fine on BOTH Rom and stock slot. I updated the OP with the instructions. Only issue I found was pressing "1" to go to vm didn't work... It adds an extra "1" to the beginning of the number. ie... +11xxx-xxx-xxxx
I'm sure it's a stupid setting that I missed. Will continue to research.

You have to go into your phone settings and change the number to your phone number instead of *86

Thank you. That did the trick. Just finished testing Foxhound ROM from the Verizon thread and found the same issue. I guess that is just the way Verizon phone are set up.

When flashing, I get the following: "E:Error executing updater binary in zip"
This is a custom recovery bug. Try restarting recovery and flashing again. Alternatively you may need to:
TWRP > Wipe > Format Data > Yes
Note: This will delete anything on internal storage - photos, music, videos etc.

LMK tweak may not work on XT1039 ROM when running on Falcon - option configured for different 'board.' The tweak will be working in this ROM.

Do you recommend to change to this ROM? I'm using currently the 5.1 Canadian optimized, and the kernel build from bedalus... Is there any major changes in this?

Yes you should apply wipes, because this time it is a ROM built of moto g lte and not from moto g 2nd version.

[J710FN] Can anyone make stock deodexed and deknoxed oreo for J710FN?

Hi everyone
I have tried making a stock deodexed and deknoxed version of the J710FN stock ROM. I used Superr kitchen to make it, but when booted the ROM (also flashed oxygen kernel), even I used INS firmware as a base, I got ROM with some other default language and also in setting I saw some option like T mobile etc. which was not present in stock ROM.
Can anyone either tell solution for this problem or can make a stock debloated and deknoxed version for J710F/FN. It would be highly appreciated.
And please don't recommend any other custom ROMs, I only want stock deodexed version only.
