I think that this forum is a total mess with different recoveryfiles and troubles. We need someone with the knowledge to create a guide/wiki/information page which covers the different recovery files, what's needed for what etc.
Myself I am on a Vodafone with the latest updated original software. Can I backup EVERYTHING (including my recovery) before I start playing with the phone? A lot of ppl seems to be having troubles and I don't want to move into something potentially non working without being able to revert back to original. Or perhaps the recovery image that I have already is available? And then I can just flash with X (what recovery is recommended now) and install for example ION.
I'm not without computer knowledge but this forum is in such a mess that I'm not even sure what's happening
after flashing almost all ROMs from this forum i decided to stick with smartphone france firmware (http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/firmware-htcmagic.ashx, recovery included). it loads fast, include all recent ota updates, and maintained. You can back up your current phone firmware + data by booting custom recovery image and using nandroid backup and later go back to that backed up state if you wish.

Does this ROM come with English UK language and UK APN's?
Is the wiki available in English?

This firmware come with English Langage
I don't include UK APN because i don't know them.
And the Wiki is only available in french ... the only one langage i can read and write easyly
come on. use translate.google.com
In that case, in a nutshell, how does it differ from the standard Google/Vodafone ROM? App variations/addions etc?
Is it possible to restore my texts/mms?
Cheers for any info!
As far as i can see, PDF Viewer, ANetShare is included.
I'm using MyBackup for backup and restore all my links Sms, MMS ... quit good.
I like it a lot and it seems to me that is running smooth and fast enought, just give it a try.
Cheers,
Dirk
May do just that, cheers for the info, diRm!
Web page in french : http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/firmware-htcmagic.ashx
Ameliorations :
- Use JF Kernel for network functionalities
- Add Bluetooth PAN for use as Bluetooth MODEM
- Based on CRB43 Firmware
- Add somes utilities (aNetShare, PDFView, SuperUser Permission, ...)
- Rooted Boot
- Increase Volume
- MultiTouch Browser
- ...
Isn't it better to base the software on I.O.N instead? Since it obviously is faster than CRB43.
@spfrance,
which locale has your ROM integrated? I need german

yes same question?????
So far my phone only likes the default Vodafone ROM and the Ion ROM.
Tried Haykuro's 6.0 and no this Smartphone France firmware, both leave my phone stuck at splash1 indefinately.
My magic is rooted and I can access the restore utility by holding home and power. Any idea why this could be?
Have you tried WIPE before update???
Yes, I wiped before updating. I have also tried wiping after updating..
I have now wiped again and restored to the Ion ROM, phone boots fine.
ION work good on mine to,just the in-call audio problem!!!
is this Magic_13 faster or slover then ION?can anyone say?
I did extract the PDF VIEWER apk from the app folder in the magic_13 zip file, installed to my running ION and the app dont work, damed
Under Language & Keyboard settings -> Select Language -> locale, is there a way to install more languages into the phone without rooting or flashing a new ROM? My friend's Captivate only has English and French, and my other frieind's Optimus One also has a few languages to choose from. Neither of them want to root because they just got the phone and they simply just want the phone to work as a phone.
currently, i have a captivate which i got from rogers canada. I had eng/french locales, but i wanted japanese. after flashing a custom 2.2 rom, i got a huge ton of them including deutsch, spanish, italian, korean, (list goes on) but sadly no japanese locale. so in short, i don't think it is possible to install other locales unless they came either with you phone, or by updating your phone. but i could be wrong.. just what i think.
Thanks. I think Google should just let any Android users to install any languages they want on their phones since they are available already.
Anyone else?
Try moreLocale2 on market.
Hi guys i'm looking for the original samsung italian firmawre. Then i want to update it with kies...
With the rom that I tried to flash did not succeed.
Flash all the components of XXKPE (http://hotfile.com/dl/145780524/f7d1f45/I9003XXKPE.zip.html) then XIKP2 (http://hotfile.com/dl/146343129/49fafda/I9003XIKP2_I9003ITVKP4_ITV.zip.html) then update with KIES to see if there are any newer firmwares for Italy.
Main idea
Hi,
the main concept here is universal, there is no single-state localized firmware or version of android, all samsung software ( or most ? ) are multi-lang including of course italian, some custom rom like Poseidon can include software that not include italian, like swype ( developer of this rom has deleted other lang, whats the sense? make only english one of better universal keyboard? ) but this is single things, and not firmware releated.
Proceding like this:
- delete your data ( make backup of anything u want )
- install XXKPE ( follow guide )
- install XXKPQ ( follow guide )
- install custom rom ( follow releated guide )
- selecting in setup wizard italian
Simple

Hi All,
I am trying to add another language to my Samsung SM-G3858 projector Smartphone. First thing I tried is to install morelocale 2 but it didnt work. Then I tried to do it over adb with command:
pm grant jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION
as seen here: http://droider.eu/2013/11/03/how-to-get-morelocale2-to-work-on-4-2-and-above/
Didnt work either. I have root and run on 4.2.2 JB. When I for example choose German or any other language with morelocale the downloaded apps are translated fine (like googleplay), but not the system language. All the system apps and the menu of these apps (e.g. settings) remain english. Also tried to contact the dev of morelocale 2 but no answer. So I´m stuck. I guess there is some kind of region lock on that phone (chinese build). Now how can I override that lock? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I've installed the XEU version found here: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8-plus/SM-G955F/XEU/ following the guide from here: https://www.sammobile.com/forum/threads/37508-How-to-install-S8-firmware
I've downloaded the file and repacked contents as per the guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-odin-t3748555 because odin would just freeze otherwise (at partitioning step).
I don't have any other firmware versions downloaded and the names match, however, after installation what I get is a german system (initializing in german) that has the german CSC code.
I'll add that the phone is brand new and was Three branded (UK) initially.
Am I missing something?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Turns out you just have to install witt h the sim card in... well. The more you know!
