twrp and otg - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I can't get twrp to recognise my otg to have my backups and zip files stored on in the event I need to restore factory backup. I've read and tried all that I can find to no avail. It's a usb 3.0 type C otg, I've ticked the otg switch in the system settings before booting to recovery, tried multiple micro sd cards in the otg reader ( fat 32 and exFAT). I even disabled pin and fingerprint to unlock the phone. I came across one article that stated twrp is having issues on 3.4 with otg. It only shows 0 for usb storage and the usb storage under mount isn't clickable. Twrp 3.4 recognizes otg's on my nexus 6 which makes it seem that it's a one plus 7 pro issue. On stock oos 10.3.4, unlocked bootloader, twrp 3.4 guacamole and magisk flashed. Thanks for any advice.

just out of curiosity, what brand of drive do you have? I use a Sandisk one with USB-A on one side and C on the other, and I have no issues.

With a lexar class 10 32g micro sd card

I ordered the otg u mentioned. We'll see if that fixes it

Thanks so much aNGERY, TWRP recognizes the card you mentioned. Not sure why it wouldn't see the other but lesson learned

[Q] otg flash drive as external storage

cutting to the chase, im looking for a way to install my apps data and if possible apk files to a otg micro usb flashdrive (its a flash drive that has a micros usb conection that plugs directly into our phones micro usb port.) So far im able to read and write data to it in the sense that i can browse movie files music ect from the usb drive.
What i want to do is to be able to download a app from playstore and it installs automatically to the otg drive.
I tried foldermount and thats fairly inconvenient in the sense i have to first download file to phones internal storage THEN link it to my otg drive, this process is time consuming and irritating for my purposes.
Ive looked into link2sd but its telling me i dont have a 2nd partiton on my otg flash drive, but ive used eauseus partition manager and did that (made a ext 4 , also tried ext 3, partition as part of the overal 16gb flash drive) and no go.
i know this is possible on a custom rom as i did this with a micro sd card many android phones ago.
quick specs on my device
completed stock rooted and bootloader unlocked
latest busybox and su binaries.
no exposed modules or custom kernel.
8gig x1032 singe sim version
any suggestions be my guest.

[Q] Need some help with OTG

Hello,
I just bought a SD-Card USB reader, an active USB hub and an OTG cable. I want to copy my holiday photos from SD Card to an external USB HDD via Nexus 5 with current CM11. The HDD has 160GB. When I plug in the SD-Card USB reader directly or through the USB hub I can read, write copy files from or to it. My 160GB HDD doesn't work. I tried to format it with FAT32, exFAT or NTFS in different sizes. I used ES File Explorer. There I can see both USB devices but when I try to access the USB HDD ES File Explorer loads and loads an loads but nothing happens more...
How do I ahve to format the USB HDD to get this working? Are there any limits on size, format or even hardware?
I think cm11 on nexus 5 cannot handle two otg storage device at once. Try stickmount app from playstore.

[Q] Mi 4i USB OTG Not Working

Hi,
I am extremely sorry if this is not the right place to ask this.
I got my Mi4i on the first flash. As soon as I got the phone, I did the MIUI 6.5.3.0 (LXIMICD) update. I did not check the USB OTG before the update, so not sure if it worked before the update or not. When I tried USB OTG, the Mount USB storage option is greyed out - always. I tried 2 different USBs and 2 different cables - still no luck. I am starting to suspect if its something wrong with this ROM release, as lots of areas in the setting is greyed out for me (for example, in the Headphones and Audio effects settings, the equalizer settings are always greyed out). So, have any of you tried USB OTG on MIUI 6.5.3.0? Any insights?
Yes I can assure u that USB OTG is working fine on MIUI 6.5.3.0
Check if the USB is a fat32 or ntfs?
Ntfs file system doesn't work with mi4i
Format the pen drive in fat32 and try again
I also tired a sd card reader it works brilliantly
Audio settings will be greyed out until u plugin headphones. Try any earphones or headphones then check if it still is greyed out

Thank you for the reply but I am still facing the issue...
Yes, the file system is Fat32 and the mi4i is still not recognizing the USB. Since the USB OTG is working fine for you, I suspect my OTG cable might be damaged ( weird- I tried 2 different cables).. Maybe I should try a different OTG pen drive?
PS: You were right about the audio settings, those worked when I plugged in the headphone..
same problem here.keyboard and mouse working but no usb drive with same otg cable. Otg card reader also not working.

If you're USB or SD Card is of huge capacity it may take time to load so I would suggest you to wait for a while, Android checks if the storage has an errors. It doesnt show in MIUI though. But wait for a while after plugging in.

Iam trying to use a 16 gb pendrive in fat32. And its not showing up for me as well. Help?
Sent from my Mi 4i using XDA Free mobile app
I have sandisk otg 64gb and it works without an issue. Make sure it is formatted with FAT. Other FS like exFAT and NTFS wont work, not sure about Fat32 though.
Hope this helps.
I bought a new 16gb Sandisk 3.0 OTG usb and its working fine for me now.
What's working:
* FAT formatted USB flash drives
* USB Mouse
* USB Keyboard
What's not working:
* NTFS formatted USB flash drives
* Portable USB hard drive
* USB Gamepad
I have an OTG cable lying around. Will soon test Linux file systems (ext2, ext3, etc.). Give me more suggestions, and i'll test it on the Mi 4i.

Aren't there root apps which enable ntfs support by installing a ntfs-3g driver?
The functionality is kernel-baked and not all kernels support the ntfs-3g driver. Also Xiaomi seems reluctant to release its sources anytime soon. There are alternatives like Stickmount however.

hi all,
as stated, i cannot perform any backups.
TWRP only shows internal storage, which is down to ~6000mb.
Micro SD shows 0mb and will not mount.
USB shows 0mb and will not mount.
I am using the latest TWRP 3.0.0.1 i believe.
my external card is a class 10 sandisk 32gb that shows up in windows when i connect my phone via usb.

Nobody?
Just went ahead and reformatted to removable media.
TWRP 3.0.0.1 didn't even load on my cricket version and i had mounting issues with TWRP 2.8.7.... try and find TWRP 3.0.0.0 for this phone if you don't have everything in recovery working (but always save backups where they are safe) and install it or try 2.8.7 for this phone if that doesn't work. 3.0.0.0 works perfect for me.... Good luck!

Thanks man. I tried all three of them. They all worked, but wouldn't recognize external SD card if it was formatted for internal.
Try a different brand or different card and let TWRP format the sd if possible.... I take everything on my sd card and drag it to my computer and try different formats (ext 4 and or fat 32 or exFat) and see what works with your comp and recovery; as well as os
Im having the same issue.
No matter what twrp I use ext sd is 0 cant mount sammy class 10 128 gb
I had this issue on my s5 and had to upgrade twrp to 3.1.1-1 i think but cant find one for cricket idol 3 that works

microSD vid-pid 0000-0000 usb OTG vid-pid 0000-0000 mount PATH conflict?

I was using my S7 Edge with Sony microSD and was able to mount all of my usb flash drives via usb OTG, but now because I switched to a new samsung 64GB EVO microSD which is mounted at /storage/0000-0000, I am unable to mount some usb flash drives for which the pid-vid is also 0000-0000 (or at least that's how the phone recognises it).
(I know this because my previous Sony microSD had some normal pid-vid numbers and the flash drive I now cant access was mounting at /storage/0000-0000, where my current microSD is mounted)
Are there any tech-savvy people who might instruct me what to do in this situation?
