Hi Everyone,
I have searched Google and must say I can't find any solution for changing SMS WakeUp / Notification pop-up.
It is so annoying when the screen lights up.
I would also like to be able to disable that it shows the message in the top statusbar.
I have unlocked my phone by finding the "ChevronWP7" unlocker tool and send (by e-mail) the "ChevronCert" to my WP7 HTC Trophy and installed the certificate. Downloaded "Tom XAP Installer v1.2.zip" and installed "RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0.xap" where I have tried several registry fixes found on different websites: "modify-sms-notifications-in-windows-phone-7" but nothing worked also found a solution here and the same again nothing i working:
[HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:1
Could someone help out I would really appreciate....
Thanks.
Bump please
Bump...Lookin for the same thing
Sorry guys, but why would you want this? I hate it on my Android. I have to push the power button every single time, which in turn, kills my hardware buttons.
At least you guys go to your lockscreen with a notification at the top, I had to download an app to wake the screen and it bypasses the lockscreen and I text/call people every single day lol. I wish it would just GO TO THE LOCKSCREEN!!!
Privacy, of course!
Bump.
@Dj21o: With respoect, I can think of at least one good reason why this setting should be "settable" and that is privacy. I may be in an environment where I don't want just anyone to be able to see an SMS as it arrives just by looking at my screen.
The fact that you would prefer it this way is, of course, good, too, but I think ther choice should be in the hands of the user.
Don't youy agree?

Yeah, it should be available for those that want it, and for those who don't... It is a simple setting that make it a big deal for users, and I can totally see where you are coming from. Sometimes my phone unlocks, and that is swiping left to right. I imagine it happens much more swiping up lol.
There is a site where you can put down ideas for developers to look at, and people vote for them. I can post the link of the site if you want.
Here is the site, you can post your ideas accordingly to what type of idea it is.

I just want to know exactly why you want this? Yes it can be abit bright at the first glimpse but isn't there a bigger risk for falling asleep if you just press a button, instead of actually opening your eyes?
Nothing against what you like/dislike, I'm just asking, why.

I want it too because I have Whatsapp group where people keep messaging all the time. And the screen remains on all the time. which simple means that my battery drain faster because screen is always on.

Any news about this???
So, disable Toast notifications in WhatsApp? That's a (required) per-app setting, no need to request an OS feature for it!
Why you don't flip you phone down? If proximity sensor detect something close to phone display it will don't turn display on when toast notification pop-up.
The curve interests me as a way to view notifications without going into the device, but does it actually work like this?
In demos so far it looks like the screen is dimmed and bar active in night mode where you can then swipe for notifications, but could you say have the bar always tell you how many of X type you have and then you swipe to view before deciding if you want to go in I wonder, this could be an actual useful feature for the edge for my use.

I don't than most know yet, but since they are leaving it open source. Other devs can program different things.
Now people have the phone, wondering if they could update oh this.
Phone is still on desk with screen off. An email arrives. Any edge action?

Text messages show up on the Edge even when the phone is switched off but it also wakes up the main screen in the process. I noticed if the fingerprint lock is activated then you just hear the sound but dont see any notification.
I have also set other notifications but it doesn't seem to wake the edge panel. If the phone screen is turned on, notifications show up on the edge screen otherwise not. This annoys me buy hopefully firmware update will address these issues.

I seen some videos and it seems to suck. You have to turn the phone to read them.
There should be a update to set it ti work like a normal android. Only time will tell.

Yeah. An example, at night I received a message from ebay the notification sounded but the phone stayed asleep. I could rub the edge screen and it would display it in scrolling action with other notifications.
It seems like a software issue though. Hoping for a fix soon.
On our list of things to make a separate app for
can't find the LED notification light. it won't come on while charging or anything... is there a setting for this? the only setting i find is for pulsing, but that won't do much good if the thing doesn't even come on. is there a setting i'm missing?

I think the default setting is on. The blue color (which I think is default) is harder to see than other colors, at least for me. I was able to see it better when changing it to red or green for a given app.
That being said, the fourth small bug which I've noticed is (at least for the few apps I've tried) if you disable sound for a given notification, neither ambient display nor the LED will work for that given notification. I'm unsure if that is intended behavior or not.
How do you change the colours for certain apps. I hoped the led would have been brighter and covered by the glass so it never needs cleaning.
Thanks.

It either has to be baked into the app or you'll have to use a third party app (which may or may not require root).
my pulse notification setting is on. i have an email, a text, and i'm charging and there is no LED anywhere to be found. is there another way to test it? maybe my unit is defective.

Are you looking VERY carefully at the left corner of the earpiece speaker grille (where the LED is located)? I thought mine was defective too until I saw how faint and small it was.
i have a text, on the charger, and i'm staring where you say but nothing. on chat support with google right now. i think mine may be defective but i'll know more in a few...
The LED is nothing special. It will flash for me every once and awhile if I have an Allo message, and if I don't read the message, it will flash as soon as I lock the phone - I did this several times just to get a good look at it. The LED is directly behind the cloth speaker cover in the earpiece. It looks like ****. You can easily identify each red, green, and blue LED when they are trying to display a white color. It doesn't even look white at a distance - you can easily see red, green, and blue. And if the phone is laying flat on a table, you can BARELY even see it. Surely it will not grab your attention unless the room is pitch black. Don't know if they thought it would be cool to do this, but it looks terrible imo.
i didn't finish the tech support chat cus i had to get back to work, but eventually the LED did show for an instant after i got an email.
it showed for an instant, and gone. i waited for it to show again and w/in 20 or 30 secs it did not show. this is what i call a useless feature. makes no sense. why is it even there?
there are so many things about this phone i don't get, and these are not bugs. i guess this is what happens when you smooth everything out for the mainstream or Apple crowd. i'm returning the phone. nice phone, but not for me at this price.
Lightflow does a good job enhancing the LED. Even without root, I now have a charging indicator and fully charged green LED. You can customize other apps too.
With the exception of having used the app for a long time, I do not know the dev, nor have any interest in his/her ventures.
I am linking the paid version as I am a strong beliver in supporting devs that turn out useful apps. There is a free version also.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow
Enjoy..
Edit: There is another app, called Light Manager, that I have previously tested. In the end, I found that Lightflow is the most flexible and useful for me.

Lightflow has more features. It takes more work/tweaking, but I can do more with it. For example, I use Lightflow to also control ringtones for some apps, as well as reminder tones. You can also control vibrate/volume characteristics. Light Manager does not offer that.

I am running LF on my PXL with no wakelock issues. Battery life is great.
I wish they would put the LED from the Galaxy nexus on the new phones. It had an awesome LED. Theres plenty of space for it on the button.
Been using LF for years. Great developer.
I use light manager pro myself. Just got the pixel yesterday
Hello everyone!
Hopefully you guys gonna understand that I just got this phone 2 days ago and been a iPhone user since Iphone 4! (Went from Iphone 7 to P2 XL) So I hope I don't get too much hate because hey, after all. I bought the Pixel 2 XL 128 GB
Anyways where to start.. It's been very hard to go from iOS to Android but luckily I studied abit as a software dev. where we learned few things with Androids so I did know some stuff atleast but there is quite good benefits with Pixel 2 XL that made me go :highfive::silly::victory:
The camera, I can just say Holy crap.. I never seen so good camera in my life on a small device like this! No doubt about it, The customization on Android where you can enable bluetooth, locations and all that is a really good one too and the screen is also really beautiful, There is so much stuff that I like with it but also some stuff I still need to learn and that's why I am here, and hopefully I can get the help I want and also hope it's not gonna be very long text aswell.
Problem:
[*]Adaptive brightness
This one goes banana, hopefully im not the only one but I have never seen anything more sensitive brightness as Google's, Changes every page / app you use and feels quite annoying as it goes up and down all the time and it just kills your eyes slowly. I did find an app called Lux Lite that helped me quite abit but with lower brightness takes me to the next point which is...
[*]Black crush
Black crush, For those who maybe doesnt know what it is, basically you can follow it up by watching this youtube clip: youtube[DOT COM]/watch?v=CYMRRn2Fu1s (Yes, im a newbie and joined today )
- Simply showing when you reduce your brightness, the dark color disappears and becomes totally black - The reason I want to use it is just against the night when very strong brightness kills your eyes just at bedtime. I usually check NBA and Twitch Just before I fall asleep, and now maybe it will sound racist but that's just love! Basically basketball players that are dark-colored and make them completely black and you only see their matchwear and it ruins a small part of the match.
I have looked into other videos and found that the issue is not only with Pixel 2 but also coming now to Samsung phones and basically the new Oled where the company gives a bad calibrations. Im not sure what Iphone uses if its AMOLED but look etc. at iPhone X, probably one of the best
detailing in dark areas of all phones that I have tried and sure I could have bought that phone but also i'm surprised this is not anything is talking about in any youtube reviews so I don't know whatsup with this but this is slowly making me go back to my iPhone 7... I hope im not the only one?!?!?!
I did find an app called Screen balance that helps it abit but I mean... 945$ for a Phone that I need an APP that I NEED to buy to make it look good?! Come on?!
But please, don't take this offensive now. It still gives a really good picture at high brightness! no doubt about it.
[*]Notification
Well, This might be a fix that someone that as more experience than me in Android now so basically I will make a construction of what I want and maybe someone can help me out?
Basically on Iphone there is a button on the left where you toggle to turn on or off the sound and what's happends basically is it just kills all sound if the toggle is on and what I did is that I turned off vibrations so basically I get everything notifications just without sound and vibrations AND thats what I want to make on the Pixel 2 XL now, What I have done so far is to hold the volume down button until it changes to Do not disturb and in the settings I turned on everything but now on the Screen "Where you just see the clock" it just sometimes gives me like small icons AND sometimes it gives me like a big notification like iPhone did.. but however, Is there another way I can do this like so its more instead of just the small icons and to check? Because etc when Iam at work I can usually see if something pops out on the screen (Can even be a pop out for 10 sec) but now it can be very hard if it's only a small icon adding. Hopefully you understand ish what I mean!
[*]Email Hotmail issue?
This is a combination of notification and not, basically what I have seen this is not as fast response as Gmail, basically if I get a email from Gmail, the notification usually pops out instantly BUT when it comes to Hotmail, this can take over 15minutes until the email even comes to the Gmail app (Where I connected it with my Hotmail since it had that option). and I sometimes can't risk it when im waiting for a important email to come where I wait too long so I need to check pretty often manually to see if I get one.. Now the issue is I don't know if that is a issue when Don't distrub is on or if its the Gmail application, Does anyone have any solution for me here?
[*]Snapchat
Well what to say here, Im not sure but I do think this isn't a issue coming from the phone itself but Snapchat, The quailty is just awful, Im sure my Nokia 3310 would make a better picture than that on Snapchat :fingers-crossed: but anyways the quailty is horrible and maybe there is a way to make it atleast abit better or something, I know that Snapchat is alot better with iPhone and also this isn't a big issue, like its not end of the world to get this worked nownownow but I do feel like it could be atleast at the same level as Samsung quailty atleast?!
Now I think im done and hopefully I did not overkill and I do hope from bottom of my heart that I could get all the answers of my questions and hopefully it's not hard to read since my English isn't the best one but I did try my best and hopefully I could love my Pixel 2 XL as much as I did on my iPhone! Help me newbie out!
I don't have other issues but my main issue is my pixel 2 non xl is black crushing. It looks like absolute garbage at night like in bed. Some videos I can't watch it gets that bad.
My phone is a Pixel 2 (which this forum is about) rather than a 2XL, so some differences may be related to the different hardware. I've not enough experience with the 2XL to compare.
Adaptive brightess: actually I don't have a problem - it works pretty well, perhaps occasionally I want to raise it a bit in dark conditions (I normally have the slider set between 25-30%, as I find that more comfortable than higher brightness), but otherwise the only time it causes problems is if I use the phone in portrait mode and shade the sensor with my hand.
Black crushing: my phone is a 2 rather than a 2XL, so has a different display panel. I don't have a problem in any of the images I've used for testing until I set the (non-adaptive) brightness below 5%, and even then I'm not in a very dark room at the moment so it may be that I'd see more if I were. But as it's a different panel that's probably not relevant.
The iPhone X is using a Samsung OLED screen. At best it will be the same technology that Samsung use on their current phones, but usually they sell 3rd parties a slightly older revision. So any differences will be in the tuning: Samsung do tend to assume that people want excessive saturation and contrast, so I could imagine them tuning in a way that crushes blacks. The 2XL uses an LG panel: it's fundamentally the same technology (p-OLED and AMOLED are just branding names: both are plastic substrate active matrix OLEDs), but a different company's implementation. People generally reckon Samsung are a bit ahead of LG in that game though.
Notifications: TBH I don't bother with "Do Not Disturb" - I do it old school, with a quick setting tile to toggle between Ring (which is Ring and Vibrate for me), Vibrate and Silent - the latter is neither ring nor vibrate. Not as convenient as the silencer switch on the side (which OnePlus have copied, but then Apple copied it from Palm in the first place), but not much in it (wake phone with fingerprint scanner, swipe down on scanner to reveal quick toggles, then tap it - only takes a couple of seconds in total). I'm not completely clear about the rest of your description of small icons vs big notifications, especially what you mean by "small icons": do you mean little dots on app launcher icons, or a small icon in the notification bar that tells you that there is a notification tile if you pull down the slide? Your "do not disturb" preferences include an option to block visual disturbances, so maybe check how that is set. Some apps handle notifications in different ways. Some apps can use the notification light to inform you that there are notifications waiting, which I find helpful (mind you I turn off the always on display, may be different for you).
Hotmail: I don't use hotmail, but the obvious question is whether you have set it up to use imap push (so you get notified immediately) rather than the phone regularly to see whether there is new mail. It sounds like your email client may be polling every 15 minutes.
Snapchat: I've never used snapchat in my life, so can't help.

Totally my fault that I bringed in Pixel 2 XL into a Pixel 2 thread, that's so stupid of me and I can understand the reason why you couldn't give me the reason I have issues with! but I still appreciate the answers you could bring in here!
About the notifications, if you search on google for ( android 8.1 always on display ) that's what I meant with small icons. But you are right with the notifications, I have found out that every app gives different notifications and some of my apps have really bad notifications, that sometimes they dont even pop out :silly:
About the hotmail it is exactly the issue there, I did set it up in Google gmail and it says it is IMAP but I could only have it on every 15 minutes, Downloaded Hotmails program and its the program that doesn't give me notifications.
Oh, if you meant the Always On Display then actually I don't use it in "always on" mode! I have to tap to wake it, so all I can say for sure is that while many apps leave a notification, if I wake it a second time it just shows the icon. What I don't know is whether in always on mode it would switch to just showing the icon after some time, or when another notification comes in, or whether it would stay there until you interact. There are some that I've never seen show text, but most of those are persistent things I'd not want to show it anyway (e.g. showing that the "WhatsApp web" app on my computer is active is something I'd not want an actual text message for). If you wake the screen with the power button you can usually see more detailed notifications on the lock screen than the always on display.

Yeah exactly! I turned it off and it is like you said, That some applications doesn't show any text or anything but just an small icon on the always on display and sometimes it does show a preview notification (Like a bigger notification) so thats what curious me like what's the reason of that :fingers-crossed:
I've never been very systematic in observing what gives what sort of notification, not least because if I think there's anything significant I tend to unlock the phone to look. I know that some types of notifications never show anything more than an icon (e.g. as mentioned the notice that the WhatsApp companion app on my laptop has connected). Some, such as calendar and email, I know do. I assume that it's linked to the type of notification, but haven't studied in enough detail.
As a test I just turned my ambient display to always on and sent myself an email. A detailed notification appeared for a few seconds, before disappearing and being replaced by the small app icon. With the display set off but to wake when new messages arrive it shows the full notification for a few seconds, and just the icon when I wake it. With it not set to wake the screen for new notifications then when I woke it with a tap I got the full notification even though it had been delivered about 30 seconds earlier (but only the first time I woke it). Personally if I were designing it I'd give options for the more detailed notifications to persist, rather than just be replaced by an icon after a few seconds, but I don't think Google have done that.

Try reinstalling it. I've heard Snapchat is building a new app version from scratch so I'm crossing my fingers it will be better
Otherwise idk what else to do to improve the quality
Hey guys.
Stumbled upon this on YouTube. Bought the app and I can confirm that it works.
This is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
Here's the video I found on YouTube:
I managed to get it setup just the way I like. The guy in the video is a bit hard to understand but the video is good enough to get you started.
If your looking for a deeper dive into the optimal configuration process try this thread

Enjoy!
thanks a lot =)
But is it posible to set different colors for different apps?
for example
green = whatsapp
blue = facebook ....
UPDATE: there is an option .... "when a notification comes" there you got the option "select enabled aps ots color and time" the blue button =)

Thanks for the effort.
Just tried it, buggy as hell and didn't play nice with my lock screen. Also every 30 seconds the screen would flicker.
I'll keep an eye on it and maybe try again after more refinement.

I had nothing but issues out of the app. Notifications wouldn't notify, the lock screen turned on and off randomly, there were no edge lighting effects no matter what I adjusted. I even tried to use the camera cutout, it again did not work.
This is a VERY bloated app, containing a LOT of features and options that frankly, are of no use to me or of no interest to me. I want an app that it's ONLY purpose is to alert me when I get messages, calls, and email. one that does not have so much bloat so that the developer can focus on the feature that is most sought after at the moment.
Just my two cents.
tl;dr App is junk, has too much junk, we need a debloated app.
It's a start...

Come on! This app might not be right for you, but the developer should at least be given some credit/thanks for the effort taken to solve a problem, for which several users are seeking a not really forthcoming solution from Samsung. You "want an app...", but the developer created something and shared it. Granted, the app has far too many options and choices, but I was able to get it working to my satisfaction. Let's be thankful first .

Okay, okay, okay. I may have been a little harsh. I didn't mean to demean to developer. I am very thankful they have taken the time to create this app out of the kindness of their heart, as well as make the app free. I appreciate the work they have done and I would even donate if I could get the app to work; however it's not very user friendly tough, and in my opinion, could use a lot of work on many different aspects.
My main issue with the app is that it does not work as intended. I have tried using the youtube video settings, playing with options, etc.
I download and re-install this app about 5 times a day in hopes that MAYBE one time I can get it to function as intended. But I do not get any kind of Edge lighting or Notch cutout alert when I get messages, and that is the sole purpose of my attempts with this app, if I could find something similar or something that better served this purpose I would use it instead.
Sometimes, while using the apps lock screen, it will display the little icon and the message but then it goes away, and doesn't re-alert like it is suppose to, and the light affects do not appear. I have tried leaving it as the stock color and using a custom color. I have tried using the app lock screen, I have tried using the settings within the app to let it manipulate the wallpaper and lock screen, tried it with an image and also just a black background. I never even delved into setting different colors for apps, I can't get the dang notifications to work!
end rant
Do you have edge light on? Worked for me first try. I am not saying its 100% but for free and for now to wait to see if Samsung might give us we want I will leave it on my phone.
hello,
with this app is there a setup to leave the screen off when a notification comes in and only the cam ring turns on then?
thanks

it is working a bit strange for me as well. I've managed to get it to ALMOST work how I want, but I can't figure out why it will do random things
-- for a while it was turning on my screen when the edge lighting came on, which was pointless. I changed a lot of settings in troubleshooting, but I'm not sure what I did to fix it
-- also, it does notify every 30 seconds even though I have no new notifications. that one I haven't figured out yet
It does work as advertised though, despite the bugs I can't fix. It will either light up my edge lighting or the notch around the camera (which I prefer). so props to the dev for figuring that part out and here's to hoping the rest of the bugs get worked on the S10 (and my S10+). it seems to be working for other devices (I originally found it here for the oneplus)

you need to disable edge lighting in setting to use this app or else it will conflict since this app does wake up the screen while edge lighting is not.
if u enable both that mean this app waking up the screen, then edge lighting will also showing (coz edge lighting while screen is on is applied). you will have both notification then

thanks! Not sure if it was changing that setting that helped, or their recent update I got yesterday, but the weird behavior has seemed to subside for a bit... I'll give it a few more days of testing to see if I can find anything else weird, but so far so good. I might also try swapping out the default color with individual colors for each app soon. Glad the dev seems to be open and receptive to feedback and willing to keep his app updated to fix various bugs found
The Reminder Notification Option
Has anyone successfully gotten the reminder option to work? When used, this is supposed to repeat the notification lighting for a brief period, if a notification had been unanswered for a period of time (30 or 60 seconds - I think). However, I could not get that to work - or at least replay the lighting. incidentally, I notice that Sakitech did not "fully" demo this feature in his Youtube tutorial. He mentioned it (at about 6:08), but did not show it working, I suspect (only speculating...) that he edited it out of the video because it does not work properly.
If anyone has the right settings for **** please share.

Thanks! The only setting I have differently is "double top to close" instead of "swipe up to close". Otherwise, I have been using these exact settings . As usual, at the moment that the screen should display the reminder, all that happens is the phone vibrates, but the light is not illuminated or display any visible interaction with the AOE lighting app.

Yeah, I see what you mean. My app as well will not work properly. I don't know what is going on? I have reached out to the developer and still not able to resolve the issues. The app starts out good but then goes rogue after awhile. I thought it was good lock messing it up but I was wrong. I give up for now.

Try turning off the "Manually only when I want it, I open the app". Also change the "When a notification comes" "And screen is off" to "Always off or on". Be sure you have turned off the Edge lighting in your phone settings.
What I was finding is when a notification would come in, it would light up the screen for a second and this would cause the app not to show the notification because I set it to "And screen is off" condition causing several notifications, if not all, to make the app not work. Once I changed to it to either/or, it has been working great for me. Hope this helps
