Now I get this message when I run Smart Switch. It worked perfect before the update. This is my personal phone, not work related.

Does the s6 no longer work with kies?
After an announcement yesterday that Samsung was releasing an urgent update to fix a ram management issue i kept trying ota to see if i had the update, i then tried kies and it just tells me to use smart switch when i connect to kies, but smart switch doesnt seem to have options to update the firmware?
or have i missed something?
James
Heya,
Yea you have missed something, i was in the same boat, got abit confused by the smart switch, what you need to do is load smart switch and in the top right their is a button that says more, click on that then click the emergency software and initilisation option, then click on the tab that says software update and initialisation and if you have an update their it will tell you.
So I JUST received a refurbished Samsung S2 Gear from amazon and went to work trying to learn all how to use it.
well i downloaded all the apps and things necessary, but now im stuck because m the samsung gear app tells me that the phone needs a software update. It downloads fine on my phone, and then gets stuck at 0% on the copying stage. I have both the phone and watch charging, and i havent put anything new on the phone. pretty much out of the box. After it tries for a bit, a popup says that its" failed to copy the software update to the gear. Try Later"
Ive restarted the watch.. unfortunately i can not restart my phone due to the outside buttons no longer working. But still seems unnecessary.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do at this point?
I just bought one, too. I also have the same phone. Update worked fine for me...
Hello,
I wanted to share what I had to do in order to fix my phone after it took the July 27 OTA update. The update somehow corrupted my display and the white portions of the display were now pink and red. A google search has info and pics on this display problem so I won't elaborate on it. The first thing I tried was power cycling the phone, the red and pink remained. The next thing I tried was factory reset the device, that didn't work either. I simply wanted to revert back to the previous firmware and hopefully that would fix it. I liked the new firmware features, but that pink screen had to go! I foolishly flashed the US unlocked firmware (XAA) from SamMobile site with Odin. The pink screen probem was fixed but this definately was not the firmware that came on this phone. Gear VR didn't work, Samsung pay was borked, and there were all types of problems with the software.
At this point I called Samsung Tech Support. The guy was really nice and after a bit of explaining he offered to have the phone flashed at no cost to me. However I would have to send the phone in to be repaired and I would be without my device for a week at least, maybe 2 weeks. I thanked him and hung up. Why couldn't he simply make the firmware available to me so I could fix this without having to send it in and be without my phone for over a week. Not really a acceptable solution. I went online and did some reading. That's when I found the fix!
To anyone who is having problems and would simply like to get back to original factory firmware Samsung has a program called " Smart Switch ". It's available as a App for your phone or as a PC software program. The phone app helps sync devices, but the PC program can do much more. I'm not going to go over in detail how to use the software because a google search has videos and tutorials on how to use it. For me I was able to enter my phone model and serial number and Smart Switch went and downloaded the "correct factory firmware" and installed it to my phone. Now I have the latest firmware (7/27) full factory install and the pink / red display problem is gone. So what I'm getting at is if you are having problems after taking the OTA update like I did, you can try using Smart Switch and install the complete factory firmware from scratch to your device. Make sure to follow instruction on how to use the program, I had to put the phone into download mode for it to work for me. Also be sure you understand about "Google lock" before flashing your phone. This program claims it can un-brick a Samsung phone, and will also over-write a rooted phone to get it back to stock. I'm sure Smart Switch has been discussed before, but for a new Samsung user (like myself) it sure got me out of a bind!
Hi, please be kind to a newbie here.. I'm in my 70's and obviously have no idea what I'm doing with the new (to me ) technology. My Galaxy S6 (verizon) is completely stock and keeps draining battery, needed to charge twice daily! Since I couldn't find obvious problem I downloaded SmartSwitch , did the system backup and doing research on internet I read somewhere the new firmware supposedly improve battery life. So I downloaded the Nougat firmware along with Odin and proceed. All went well, was able to restore all the settings and as far as I can tell all is well. The phone battery can last 2 days easily. Now the problem. . Every day now I'm getting notifications on my phone "System Update Ready To Install". When told to install it, the phone goes thru it's routine, downloading the update, rebooting, and installing.. Just to stop on 'blue screen' @27%
everytime! When using the SmartSwitch and clicking on the phone it does say the phone is up to date. So my questions are..
a) Why I get notification on phone, and Samsung SmartSwitch says the opposite?
b) Should I ignore the notifications and just live with the nag message?
c) Should I disable notifications for this, and stop it from appearing?
d) How to go about doing that>
Any suggestions/ideas (other than replacing the phone) are appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi All,
The phone was problematic even after Reset(s) to factory condition. It used to reboot randomly launching apps, etc. I made all the Google Play updates successfully but the Samsung updates ( phone settings ) always failed.
Then I decided to use 'Samsung Smart Switch' ( Windows + Android Utility ) ( Official Downloads ). When I used the utility, it found some 2GB firmware update for the phone which was never listed from within the phone settings. I was quite hopeful but while making updates, it got hung at 'Preparing software environment for updates' for 2:30 hours. My computer's fans were running like anything so i got afraid & disconnected the phone. Probably, I halted the firmware updation in the middle & now I understand that. Since then the phone is almost unusable, rebooting every few seconds.
Undoubtedly, I am ready for the hard work & want to get my phone back to the usable state but am totally unaware as what are my options.
I also want to know the possibilities of getting it back to the usable state anyway.
Thanks for all the help & information!
A Firmware flash from Download Mode & ODIN did the trick. Thanks to the forum!
