Gray filter on lockscreen - Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro (Redmi K30 Pro) Questions & Ans

I have recently been with the Poco F2 Pro with MiUI 12 (I never used MiUI 11 with it) and I noticed that on the lock screen it has a gray filter that when unlocking disappears, it is a bit annoying, does anyone know if it is possible to disable it? It is not for ewl dark mode or anything, I tried to search for everything and could not find any option regarding this
PS: sorry for my english

Are you sure it is not due to light for fingerprint scanner?

It is not the light, it is a filter that covers the entire screen very dim

True it kind of looks like a pixel filter. My guess is to save battery life for those wanting to look at the clock? Just a guess though!

No one knows why it's there.. Only appears when fp is on.. And it's not related to light because other xiaomi devices doesn't have it. At least past devices.

Missing tweaks

Hello Everyone,
I'm fresh owner (bouth a week ago) of Honor 9 and I'm very happy with the choise I've made. The phone is incredible fast (comparing from my previous Galaxy S6) and EMUI is well optimised. But, ehm let's complain a bit . I'm courious what kind of feature you're missing on your Honor 9 phone/EMUI. For me the complaining list would look like:
- Missing ability to control notification light - different freq. and color for different apps
- Gesture for home button - there would be nice if "scroll up/down" would trigger to enroll notification arean
- Dim clock as screensaver while charging (very usefull as I'm charging my phone while sleeping, and so could be use as night clock)
- Knock Knock feature on locked phone - to see notification when phone is on the table (I know there is notification LED for it)
Ok that's my complaining list. If you have any idea to overcome such a limitation feel free to suggest. Also don't hesitate to complain a bit as well

I don't think there is a way to over come your complaints without rooting your device. Even rooting your device won't allow you to use the features you want on the home button.

Hi iceepyon,
yes I believe you're right, there the missing feature about home button won't be most probably overcome without ROOTing the device and use custome KERNEL. To by honest with you I'd rather to not use the feature as some application I'm using won't run on ROOTed phones (based on official statements).
Hovewer I believe some of missing feature could be added by some app?Any recommendation?

- most phones nowadays don't have notification light. Probably because the phone spend most of its time in our hands
- I agree with this one. The fingerprint scanner supports swiping gesture
- honor 9 uses ips lcd screen, even if its dimmed, the whole screen still light up. This will heavily drain the battery
- you can use wave on proximity sensor app to turn the screen on

@pijes,
1. Maybe most of the phones doesn't have notification LED (wouldn't be so sure about this one), but Honor 9 does, so ability to control it would be usefull
2. Yeah would be nice, but dunno if if is possible withou kernel upgrading
3. Yes, could be battery dainer, but I'm speaking about situation when the phone is charging actually
4. Can you explain a bit deeper the statement, about to using "waze on proximity sensor app"?
Thx

3. Charging and discharging simultaneously can be harmful to the battery health
4. There are a few apps out there that try to simulate the wake screen using gestures and usually they implement it by making use of the proximity sensor. AcDisplay, WaveUp and Glance Plus are among them

Well, there is honestly nothing much which can be done if you want to add the knock on wake feature. Same can be said of the notification LED as those are built into the device's official stock OS. The only thing you can do is install a 3rd party OS and hope that it has some of the features you want. However be warned that most if not all 3rd party OSes do not have the best post image processing software so your pictures won't turn out as good as if you have taken them using the stock OS that came with your device.
@iceepyon, yes I can imagine that most 3rd party OS won't have such a camera software optimalization. Btw, I've read some post about how to enable 3rd party clock as screensaver. I can't understand why Honor/Huawei disabled this feature, which is present in stcok android.

Probably due to security issues. As Huawei has been focusing quite allot on making and keeping their devices secure.
@iceepyon, I really don't know how "clock" screensaver would expose the security more than "image slideshow" screensaver

@iceepyon, I believe that's problem with all 3rd party applications Its matter of trust in Google Play. I found this tutorial to set custom screensaver on Huawei devices: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...ver-on-huawei-and-honor-devices-running-emui/
What do you think, would it work for Honor 9?

That's right, but with 90% of advices/topic here on `xda` you can easily mess up your device settings, isn't that true? Anyway thank you for your opinion.

That is certainly true of rooting or installing custom OSes onto your mobile device. As there are so many things which can go wrong. However current versions of android are now at a point where unless you need to have your device rooted for work purposes. There really isn't a point for the average user to do so.

Yellow hue on lockscreen

Hello everyone
I just found out that there is a yellow hue when you're on lockscreen. I've not seen that earlier. Could someone tell me what is going on? Please check the vid:

It's a normal screen overlay when you invoke fingerprint sensor. I don't think there's a system-side way of disabling it.

That's what I thought. It's a shame because my wallpapers doesn't look as good as it should

What is the most missed feature, compared to past Pixels?

For me, it'll have to be the notification LED I really miss that. Had different colours for different apps and even people, so I knew who or what it was without even picking up my phone to check.
I also miss the fingerprint sensor on all the banking apps etc but that'll be resolved in due course once the developers switch to the biometric API for Face Unlock.
What is it for you?

+ 1 on everything you have statted.
I have not yet purchased the Pixel 4 xl
And dont know if I will
Definitely rather have a LED light than AOD for sure.
Only the original quality photos and videos backup but not really. I'm actually using my 100GB Google One storage which I hardly touched. At my current rate of 1GB per 12 days, I'll be needing more space in just under 3 years. [emoji23]

Hands down the finger print sensor. ? Unlimited Full Photo Backup as well. Wide angle selfie camera. I didn't think it was a huge deal on the 3 but I ended up using it quite a bit.
For sure LED notification and fingerprint sensor. I like the face unlock but also want to have the choice to not use it and use a fingerprint instead. There's many times I will pull my phone out just to see the time then POOF...unlocked. Ugh! lol
(yes, I know PIN/Pattern can be used in lieu of face unlock)

There is also a setting to face unlock then go to the "lock screen" rather than all the way in. That's what I do. So tap the screen to see notifications or face unlock then swipe up.
Settings -> Display -> Lock Screen Display -> Skip Lock Screen toggle : On skips directly to last screen used (like your home screen). Turn it off and Face Unlock goes to your lock screen and you just swipe up to then go to the home screen.
nothing. I thought I'd miss the fingerprint sensor, but I don't Face unlock is so fast it would be unlocked before I could place my finger. I would like an ultra wide lens and top bezel to shrink but that was not on the older models either...just hoping those 2 are done on P5
I have a TB on Google one, so not a huge issue for me with photos. I save original quality. I had my subscription last year as well.
Autofocus for the front-cam, no doubt...
Biometric API is really bugging me and I bet we could wait a very, very long time before Devs start actually updating for it.
Nothing really. I thought I'd miss the LED, but I haven't really noticed it being gone much. The fingerprint sensor some, but mainly because a lot of my apps use it. Definitely miss the convenience of it. I'll be very happy once they start using the new API. I sort of miss the metal back of the 2xl. But, wireless charging is awesome, so it's kind of a toss up.
I DEFINITELY don't miss the notch on the 3. I didn't think it bothered me, until I got this phone. Now I can't understand how I went a full year with it...
At least for as long as only a few apps support biometric unlocking, it definitely is the fingerprint scanner. But I'm sure it's only a medium-term loss, and we'll see more apps being able to use biometric unlock very soon.

black circle blinking around the front camera

Hi guys,
I have the Note 10 plus and my wife bought last week the note 10 lite.
The lite have a circle around blinking around the front camera and the plus don't have this.
I searched everywhere and din't find an answer about what is that....
Any help?!
Did you buy the 10 lite used? I have a 10lite with aod notify installed it shows a ring around camera for notifications. So if you bought it used maybe its installed. Other than that not sure. Camera also has a lighted ring when you switch between front camera and rear camera, but its white.

No. It's brand new.
And I have the AOD notify in my Note 10 plus.
It's like a sensor. And just happens with the screen on.
The animation around the front camera appears when you are set to face unlock.

And it only appears to me when face unlock is on
same thing
Same situation here, it has nothing to do with face unlock or notification system, tried everything, always the same thing. Its like popping up around front camera every 5-6 seconds when on lock screen, and sometimes when scrolling through certain apps. Maybe some kind of camera-cut-out-pixels protection? Its an odd software behavior without any explanation from Samsung.
Maybe your smart stay is turned on, try to disable it under Motion and Gestures in the settings.
It appears during a video call too, and looks like a larger circle, like that one the other samsung products.
Also sry, for being off topic, i wanted to know how is your s pen working, because the nib of mine feels a little loose.
It is as @j.canlas mentioned. Smart Stay is tuned on, it checks if you are facing directly on the screen or not (to lock the display). I also kept on searching for what it was when the device was new to me, it bothered me a lot.
You can disable/enable it under Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and Gestures.

This is the correct explanation for the infrequent circle around the camera.

Colors Washed on Lock Screen when Fingerprint Unlock is Enabled

I don't know if this is a "bug or feature" type of situation, but I just got my brand new Poco F2 Pro and I noticed that the colors in the lock screen are washed out. I deleted all the registered fingerprints from the Settings and suddenly the colors are... colorful again.
So, is this a bug that Xiaomi can fix with a software update, is it a hardware issue, or is it intentional and necessary for the fingerprint sensor to work?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
i can confirm this phenomena
Correct observation.
Don't know the reason but probably a bug not solved with Miui 12.
It did this on MIUI 11 as well just not as noticeable. It drives me insane tbh, especially the quick settings menu. Can't even take a pic of it. I've tried a handful of lockscreen themes and found one that is bearable as it let's you tint the lockscreen.
I see it too
Same here.
Did you use advance color gamut setting instead of auto? I noticed this when color gamut option is not set to auto.
Make sure if you're using dark mode, in settings/display/dark mode you don't have wallpaper darken... This creates a washes out look
I have experienced this too and have found no surefire workaround. However, what does seem to be more effective is if you set your wallpaper through the options in the settings menu and not through a launcher (like Nova for instance). It reduces the grainy quality of the lockscreen, but the image is still not the best.
I dont think its a bug, since in-display fingerprint reader needs a very bright light-source, the display itself will illuminate to the max for the fingerprint scanner to works, which is essentially the same as "sun-mode". In that mode, all color will look bad.
Same I felt it today...I faced then I went to shop they wiped out my data :3 when I setup my wallpaper and the fingerprint it's happening like before..and there's another bug on dark mode as well ,when you lower your brightness completely, the settings font will start its color fading :crying:

Auto mode actually gives a better contrast to the lock screen wallpaper than Advanced, I didn't realize. ?

Unfortunately, I don't think it's a bug either. What doesn't make sense to me is that the entire screen needs to have these washed colors for the fingerprint sensor to work. It's such a small part of the screen, why wash out everything?
I saw it too. I was using Advanced Color Gamut option. Then I switched to "Saturated" and it solved it.
Unfortunately that didn't work either.
Strange thing is that it doesn't happen on my 9T Pro.

I have no idea why tho.. Im guessing maybe it have something to do with "Sun mode" kinda "overclock" the entire display when fingerprint-reader need to, and then switch back to normal display mode right after.
But that kinda defeats one of the OLED key-strength, being able to lights-up individual pixel instead of lighting whole screen. Doesnt make sense to me either..
We need to report this from the miui developer guys its so annoying especially when you're in a dark room or room with lights off

Disabled my fp at least for now. Can't enjoy a brand new phone with these washed out colours.

I agree with you, as this behaviour didnt happen on my Mi 9T Pro, although I suspect it could have caused by both "sun-mode" and Xiaomi decision to use white-light for fp illumination instead of turquoise-like color on previous model. Im still using it, for convenience anyway.
In my experience it is just happened with gamut color option, with other color option it is no issue. My super mars wallpaper look amazing.
