I think if UK banks accept Huawei, the pressure from the USA on the British government might delay it or might not even happen.

good luck with that ... i think there is zero chance

I'm sure it'll come soon, just need banks to do their end first. I remember when GPay launched in the UK and Barclays weren't available for ages!

I've got around it by slipping a debit card in the case. There's no overdraft on it and I use a widget to keep an eye on the balance. I transfer what I think I may need that day etc. That's my take on getting around no contactless payments with the P40

Oh wow that's horrible! There have been users here that somehow get it shipped to a courier in a different country then shipped to them. Hopefully one can help you in your situation. I didn't know about the whole situation with Google in China. Best of luck to you!

I live in Shanghai and bought a US version 32GB for 3,000 RMB. I am aware that I won't be able to use LTE in the future, but I wasn't prepared to go for a HK version for near enough the same price and only 16GB.
I bought online from Taobao - http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.5.w4002-1856930535.34.1QlftW&id=35735211682 - A reputable seller who throws in a lot of freebies like screen protector, case, extra usb cable etc.
You will need a Chinese bank card to use though.
Otherwise I'm sure there are camera markets in Guangzhou where you can buy imported versions.

I've checked on that site before, but was looking for a physical store in Guangzhou City to go to! Hopefully there's a Hong Kong / ROW version because LTE is on 1800mhz here in New Zealand!
Thank you!
Buy from Japan and get it reshipped through jshoppers Tenso.
Or else wait a few days, Google Play HK is rumoured very very soon. Prices will be around HK$3.2k for 16GB and HK$3.6k for 32GB.

Mate 9 Pro-> Available at all? in U.S.?

The Porsche Design is incredibly expensive. But they have announced a Mate 9 Pro, and is on their web site here. But no information on versions, or places to purchase.
Google search not turning anything up either.
Seems like this time of year would be good time to get this stuff out there and available.

It's only a limited release so far.
It's available in China, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Your only way of getting it would probably be to import a Chinese version. I've yet to see a Nordic shop ship internationally even though it would probably be preferable (albeit more expensive) to get one from a Nordic country.
Other than that, you can only cross your fingers and hope it sees a wider release. I'm guessing they're testing to see the reception of a curved amoled display for future devices.
Thanks
Sweden and most of the others appears to be pre order from 20th.
i've found a couple of shops in sweden that will ship to other countries when they do have stock...
If you find out where the Pro is available for purchase online, please post.
Yeah, a lot of people like me have interest on this Model.
Sure. Likewise, of course.
Misco in sweden will post overseas but they only taking pre orders and are not guaranteeing it'll be instock by 20th. They said telcos will get them first so maybe try them....

Yup. It sure is. Although it is not available from a supplier in the U.S.
One of my concerns about purchasing a phone that would not be from a vendor in the U.S. is support. Even if the support is 'good', timing for handling would be an issue, I presume. Maybe my concern is not valid...I don't know.
The other thing for me is if I purchase a phone (especially one in that price range) I want to be able to evaluate it for at least a couple weeks and return it if it's not for me for whatever reason. The Oneplus 3 has a 14 day policy, and the Axon 7 has 30 days.
I talked to Huawei customer support today inquiring about the Mate 9 Pro because I have been wanting to get one but was told that they do not recommend buying it from 3rd party vendors or sellers and there is no warranty for the international version of the phone if you use it in the U.S.
Well, that ended my hopes of getting an expensive unlocked phone. Might as well wait for the upcoming phones...

Some re-sellers offer warranty support.
I wouldn't worry about it... I've never had to use warranty service for any of my smartphones. I've been searching but can't find any places selling this phone in silver/gray at a decent price... most are $1,000+. I already got burned when I bought my international Mate 9 (lost $200 when I sold it after the unexpected U.S. release).

Very valid. I bought a Mate 9 Pro in the USA via a seller on ebay. The sellers post just said huawei has 12 month warranty. Which is true. Just incomplete
After i received the device, i could figure out:
Huawei does not seem to have global warranty support == you need to send in the device for any form of repairs to the country where it is originally from.
My device seems to be from Taiwan, but that is just conjecture by me because the packaging has a URL from Taiwan on it. Alas, the Taiwanese Huawei site is one of the few that does not have online warranty check and when i sent an email to them from the webpage to inquire about my warranty status, i never got a reply. Maybe they can not or do not want to talk english. Or deal with overseas sold units customers.
Aka: i guess i am pretty much out of luck wrt. warranty unless i learn chinese and jump into a plane to taipeh. Which could be fun . But i guessed something like that to be the situation before i bought the phone, so no big surprise.
i got my mate 9 pro from ebay too. and it's also from taiwan. it's the gray one and it's only $878 + intl express shipping. i think it's the cheapest gray mate 9 pro coz some sellers from aliexpress sells it for even more than $1000 coz it's very rare. and they are selling the chinese version too. mine's international, i got it after 5 days here in new zealand via dhl. didn't have pay any import dutiesas well. the seller only sold 4 of these and i was one of the luckiest to grab the sale. here's the link:

That is a great price! Gray does seem to cost a lot more because it's unavailable mostly... there's a AL00 (China) model open box on eBay, but I'm afraid of dealing with annoyances from buying a Chinese model.
I've just ordered the gold via Amazon Prime for $889. At least that way I actually CAN easily return the phone and get my money back if I don't like it... or if Huawei does a release in the U.S. soon I won't get screwed.

I think I might have seen the same listing on Amazon as you for the gold one. But I got my gold model m9pro for $773 with free shipping (no tax) on ebay. it was a great deal and have been loving the phone. I got the C636 build which I believe is the European version but could be wrong.

I just checked your link, Porsche was there, no Pro. One said it was a Pro, and I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the Pro is 6GB of memory, and the one listed said 4 GB.
A The only reason I would want a Pro is for 6GB of memory.

how much is import tax from india to uk?

Hi, I've found an Indian version but am worried the import tax is gonna be massive...they're selling it for £650 so how can I calculate the import fee?
There are a few online calculators that you can try.
But, at a minimum, you'd pay 20% VAT plus the handling charge - so you're talking ballpark another £140 on top.
Plus, depending on the tariff code for mobile phones, there may be an additional duty on top of that but ti's hard to get a definitive answer about that online.
Hi,
I bought from UK and used a firm on ebay based from Ireland.
If you can just avoid Norway, Switzerland, India and Hong Kong as all will have a lot of import duty.
If you buy from an Irish based company on ebay you pay the conversion rate (Usually on Paypal) and that's it. No import duties.

That's not entirely correct.
Switzerland, whilst not part of the EU, is part of a larger European Customs Union, meaning that goods imported/exported between Switzerland and the rest of the EU are treated the same as if it were between EU member states.
I'm not sure about Norway but I wouldn't be surprised if the same were true.

When I checked we apparently still had to play customs duty which is still a considerable amount of money.
"Customs Regulations. As mentioned above, because Switzerland is not an active member of the EU, all imported goods have to be customs-cleared. In most cases this mean that you are subject to paying duty on your import from Switzerland, and the amount will vary depending on the specific type of goods you are importing."
Buying from Ireland to the UK is the best bet and is cheaper.

Why Indian version specifically? The EAN of the HK one matches and so is essentially the same phone.

I'm going by based on the Governments stance on it all.
Sometimes countries will misvalue the item being set or say it's a gift on the shipping information to avoid the duty.
The only times duty is usually charged is when it is truly exported from a place like Switzerland to the UK (It will usually be on the outside of the package)
Also https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad
It mentions that even though other Countries are not in the EU they are in the EEA but it doesn't go both ways. This means for small time consumers they still have to pay import from these non-eu countries.
You may be lucky and have it sent as a gift though.

Cause that one doesnt have the chinese assistant on the left and you dont have to go through hoops to remove the chinese apps/get nova working properly... I guess my best bet is to wait for a month and see if vivo release a true international one.

I have a HK Version phone that is International. The phone does not have issues removing any of the chinese apps and like the other international models has Google Assistant instead of the Jovi button.
I have Nova fully working with 0 issues and the phone works flawlessly.
I can post proof or evidence if you want or answer more questions.

well we'll find out some time in the future cause I ordered an HK one from ireland
Ugh I ordered last Thursday but the seller is shipping today and says it will take 6-8 days to get to me *rolls eyes*
Yep got the nex s HK today after dpd messed up with the delivery yesterday, can also confirm that is basically the international version
Mine arrived on Friday, didn't get a chance to spend much time with it until today though.
Same story, it actually was the HK version, not just a Chinese one with Google Play installed - EAN on the box matched, no Vivo account needed, most of the Chinese bloat removed.
Spent today ADBing some of the remaining bloat, installing Nova, GCam etc.
Really pleased, seems like a decent successor to my OG Mi Mix.
Something I noticed with gcam is if the hdr isn't on, it would take the picture and then "boil" it 1 second later
Which GCam version are you using?
The one that was recommended in the other thread?
Guys, I don't know... Do I have to pay an import tax from India to the UK? I know that before it was necessary to pay, but I read that today you do not need to pay. I don't think this is true, so I hope you can help me with some tips. I even found an online tax service because recently I have too many issues with taxes. I think this is really very easy and convenient because you just need to message and you will immediately receive the necessary response. In addition, this company has excellent reviews on the account of filing taxes. I hope they will help me.

anyone order it in USA?

I like this a lot but not sure how it works in USA. Anyone using it in USA? Anyway to get in USA other than the premium prices on eBay? Thanks for the replies
i got mine from www.tradingshenzhen.com
They are really good, takes upwards for 2 weeks sometimes (especially with COVID-19). I purchased the Vivo NEX S, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, and the Oppo Find X2 Pro (12gb/256gb). They have the best prices anywhere I've seen.
That list reads like a list of phones I would want.
How are you liking it using it here? Any issues with networks?
Another question is any issue with it being Chinese version?
Thanks for your reply.
Wonda Mobile
I ordered from wonda Mobile with express service. Literally shipped from Hong Kong on Sunday and may have it in hand tomorrow in Indianapolis. Price is competitive. Not the best price but not the worse but best in class shipping as far as i am concerned. Keep in mind this is the China model which does not have any band compatibility difference then the global model, play store is installed but Google pay will not function. It will also have some Chinese remnants in the menus, but definitely usable. Not like a Huawei phone.

Before I take the plunge in the UK

I've always one to be different and out of the ordinary with what I do. Currently my daily phone is a P40 Pro with full GSM installed and happy with it.
My eye has now been taken by the Mi 10 ultra and after reading and watching many reviews I've decided I'll take a punt on it but only after I'll instal the EU rom on it. My main concern is the UK banking apps PLUS Gpay. I've read that Gpay can be a problem so my question is, will I be able to use the UK banking apps PLUS a reliable Gpay if I instal the latest eu rom on the phone?
Have a look here -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-10-ultra/how-to/gpay-fix-eu-rom-t4168751
I've had no issues with the EU rom and Goole pay or banking apps. Santander thinks my device is rooted and won't work, and Lloyds group apps don't like fingerprint auth. What bank are you with?

Brilliant, thanks for that.
In your opinion, are there any downsides to this phone at all? Where did you get it from and did you manage to get it with no import duty taxes etc?
I can get the 8gb/256gb for about £727 from http://www.tradingshenzhen.com and if I choose a certain postage they tell me there's no extra to pay at all.

Just note the lack of band 20. It's only a problem if your using O2 or a network provider using O2s network. I use Sky via O2 and yes, there is no 4G but as everyone else is now using 4G, my 3G is super fast, so I have no issues but you do need to be aware of the lack of some bands.
I use Lloyds, no probs but as mentioned, no fingerprint at the mo while there is an issue with the CTS Profile, but still log in and use.
Got mine from Wondamobile, no import duties as they ship to Manchester and then to you, if there are any, they get them. Still here in 5 for me.
I bought from Wonda for £709 all in, as Sathelp mentioned they sort out import charges etc, they even gave me an Invoice with an IMEI on it for my insurance.
It actually only took 4 days from ordered to delivered.
My only problem is Gpay but I'm going to try the Magisk Rooted fix this week

Which version was that? I'm looking at the 8gb/256 one. It's the same price on tradingshenzhen but with a 2 week delivery.
I don't regret the purchase at all, sent my Note 9 off into the ether for some cash back and never looked back. The 12GB version runs fast, when I got it on Wonda it was £789 all in (extra shipping insurance was £7 ish)
For tradingshengzen they will ask you to pay £20 shipping and £30 if you want to use PP, so add £50 on top of their price (seen some good pricing on there actually).
Downsides are: no microSD expandable. Not IP68 certified. If you use GPay a lot you might miss it, seems hit and miss who can use it. I used it fine early this week but I hardly use GPay, I just use the 1 card I carry with me.
Nationwide works as normal, fingerprint etc.
The Chinese ROM seems fine, apart from random Chinese apps popping up, battery seems better, probably because Google services aren't eating up your battery. I unsynced 3 of my accounts and turn off G voice assist on EU Rom and battery seems better. I don't think you'll go wrong with either ROM, plus this phone is so cheap compared to Note 20 Ultra. Was actually looking at S20+ (not ugly S20 Ultra) but am glad I got the Mi 10 Ultra instead.
