Anyone found a third party LED light emulator that works through the Always-on-Display? I've tried "Always On Edge - LED" "NotifyEdge" and "NotifyBuddy". None work on the 4a...
EDIT: EdgeMask works on the 4a. It has a lighting limit of 20 seconds unfortunately, and its definitely one of the least feature rich options, but at least it will notify you when you get a text or something on this LED-less device :/

what's the point of the notification LED?

It lacks brightness and is hidden behind the speaker grill, I can barely see it light up most of the time. What a waste.
It is duller than I'd like but unless it is in direct sunlight, I have no problem seeing it. I wish it wads a little brighter though.
At least is has one. A lot of android phones don't.
I want to know if anyone has figured out how to make it stay on longer than 5 minutes

Green has been HTC's standard notification color since the g1 first came out. Once the device is rooted you'll be able to use LED color changing apps.
I was wondering, there is another whole on the opposite side of the front reading facing camera and the notification led. I wonder why htc put that there it seems to have no purpose. That probably could have been a nice place to put the notification led.

It's most likely the ambient light sensor, or the motion sensor that shuts the screen off when you place the phone by your face.

That is correct. It is the light sensor.

If rooting will allow me to change the LED to something a little more noticeable (red might work well I would think), that might be ideal.
So far, the green barely stands out, especially since my desk is next to a window with ambient sunlight.

I believe that we only have 2 colors to choose from, the green and the abmer, the one that comes up when charging phone. I always had the amber on my HD2 and it was always visible. Hope we could do the same on this phone later.

The LED light can actually produce multiple colors but like someone said. It's not possible until it's rooted unless the application your using gives you the option.

Maybe the free market app 'Blink' which doesn't require root will work...

If you use a 3rd part text messaging application like Chomp or Hancent it gives you the option to make your LED multiple colors plus the option of how long you want it to stay on.

The G2 LED could only turn orange or green.. I'm assuming most new HTC phones are set up like this.

I hope this isn't the case. The Thunderbolt can do Red, Green, Pink, Blue and White.
i like having a notification led, as opposed to the Vibrant, which didn't have one. I just wish it lasted longer than 5 minutes.
There is an app for the g2x that pulses the four bottom buttons for notifications. its pretty spiffy...i wrote the developer he said it's possible it could work on the sensation but he doesn't have one to try it out.
It would be a pretty nice option to have because I agree, the led as is is pretty much invisible

I used it on my G2X and it sucked the battery big time.

LED Colors?

I've tried the following three apps:
LED Color Tester
LED Tester
Light Flow Lite - LED Control
No matter what I do with any of these apps, even using the Administrative access mode, compatability mode, screen off, etc, none will show any color aside from Green.
How are people getting different colors??
I think the only colors we have are orange and green. Orange being used for charging and notifications, and green being used to signify that the battery is full.

Ok, but how are people using orange for custom notifications via the above apps?
I can't even get orange to work, even though our phone clearly supports it.
Try 'LED Me Know'

Still no other colors.
Keyboard mode doesn't work either.
Tried with Compatability on or off.
Does it work for you with other colors?
I think that the only colors we can get are orange and green, on 'LED Me Know' I can get both colors and the capacitive buttons to work just fine.
Is it possible to have that notification LED different colors at all? Like I remember with the Nexus One, the trackball was RGB. Same with our notification LED, but just needs the proper tweaking? Or not even possible?

I don't think it's possible. It's something I really miss from my BlackBerry - the LED was completely customizable.

Well, we do know it has the ability to flash GREEN, ORANGE, and RED.
So if it isn't RGB, which would be silly considering it's already 2/3, hopefully someone will find a way for us to customize it. I would prefer the LED to blink rapidly or something so I can just quick glance at it, instead of waiting a few seconds(in which case I'll just press the power button to see for myself). Sadly nothing I've tried so far will take control of the notification LED.
it can only show orange, red and green...kinda disappointing, cuz i like to use different colors for certain notifications...but its not that big a deal

[Q] AOKP LED Control

Hello all. I am using the latest AOKP on my S3. I had previously used it on my Galaxy Nexus and the LED Control worked great. But i can't get any LED notifications at all on my S3. The only time the LED comes on is when i have an incoming call, which isn't a setting that I have anyway. Does anyone know if there is a setting somewhere that i'm missing that is turning off the LED notifications? Or does it just not work on the S3? The stock rom LED notifications worked.
Just came to my mind, on the Nexus i was using the last milestone build and on the S3 I have the latest nightly build. But that shouldn't be the cause.
Any ideas? Light Flow, light manager also provide no LED notifications.
Thanks
Go to setttings->display->pulse led notification (or something like that)

haha, that did it...thanks.
btw, the LED quality is much poorer on the S3 than on the GNexus. Light what is supposed to be orange is mostly green, a spec of orange. other users have same result?

Yes. Its because of the led that's used. They used 3 different LEDs instead of one multi colored one. So when you're using a custom color, its a mixed rgb color.

Led light

Just curious if anyone's notification led has went dimmer. When I got the phone it was bright but now it's dim and I'm trying to figure out why.

Dim notification light is randomly occurring on my phone. Sometimes bright, sometimes not... trying to correlate a specific action on my part (auto screen off, etc) triggers it...
The notification LED obeys the ambient light sensor on the phone (it has its own auto-brightness, essentially), so your experience might be due to that.
If I am in a dim environment and I get a notification, the LED comes up very dim. If I am in a bright environment and I get a notification, it comes up as very bright. It also worked this way on the Note7 and S7/S7 edge.

Makes sense as to why it's so random.
any way to customize the colors? i use to rock lightflow back in the day but not sure it works for this phone.
I have just found a method to get the led always shining bright, weather in pocket or dark !!
I was about to return the phone because of the dim led issue but then put my thinking Cap on and managed to fix the dam thing.
You just need root and Light Flow.
If someone is interested to know , PM me or Skype at [email protected]
Happy bright LED.
Cheers.

Be hyper careful i saw some threads where lightflow was able to make the led stop lightning. Only hardware fix was able to bring it back alive. This happened on various s8 and s8+

I remember reading the producer of the app lightflow
Hade to change a value in the app code making the led going broke.
A lot of users reported that the LED that seemed to be broken was fixed after an update from Samsung. Most likely a software issue. I have been using Lightflow and Lightflow Legacy (most recently) with no problems. The legacy version is recommended for the S8.

Anyone else is using Light Flow again? I have been using it since S3 with no problems at all, but now my notification LED went off at second day until last firmware. I know the problem was not due to Light Flow but maybe the software failed more easily in presence of Light Flow. Now I am afraid the problem only could be partially solved and still sensible to Light Flow software commands.
So what settings did you use to get lightflow to always show a bright led... I have a S8+ and a S9, both rooted.. Both with Lightflow and no matter what settings I try I can't override the ambient display.

Notification LED customization?

Any luck with finding an app to customize the LED notification colors? Was a big fan of Lightflow back in the Galaxy Nexus & S4 days, not sure if that still works on the S8+ and S8? I don't use AOD so would be nice to tell what kind of notification I have based off color. Also the LED blinks kind of slowly.

thanks, downloaded the lightflow legacy version. working great!
I saw that the recommend the legacy version, but I have stuck with the "new" ? version and it is working fine as well. I am not using the AOD, and they mentioned something about that. Maybe that is why I don't need the legacy version. i have only been using it for a couple days, but all is well.
I got the notification that 'Legacy' version works better for Galaxy phones didn't try it after downloading, will try it now!
Does light flow let u customize the flash rate of the led? I've used light manager in the past but on my s8 plus it doesn't let me have the led flash fast. It's Alot slower then when I had light manager on my phones in the past. Even when I have it set to .01 second

Yes you can. There are presets or you can make your own for each app. For instance, if you set your own to "50,8000", the led will be on for 50ms, then off for 8000ms
Does anyone notice dim LED while the phone is in dark place or pocket?
Is this due to the fact that the LED is also Light Sensor controlled?
Also, can someone check on the Settings - > Led Control, are there any LEDs listed under the additional LEDs section?
I have a way to fix(dim led) it on my S7 edge but want someone with S8 / + to confirm if this issue exisit there was well please.
