screen color note as vivid compare to note 10+ - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

i have both note 10+ and note 20 ultra. i feel that the color on the note 20 ultra is not as vivid putting side by side to compare with note 10+. anyone think so too?

My Note 20 Ultra arrived today and I compared it with my Note 10+ and I agree with you. The colours on the icons are far less vivid or rich, sort of like a bit toned down. Also when scrolling through the menus anything white seems to be less white and more grayish. The settings are the same on both handsets

Yep can also confirm this, I've just been running some comparisons too and find the same. I guess its a bit more natural, but personally I do like a bit more saturation to be honest..

Yup , prefer vivid also

S6 Edge More Color Contrast

I was at Tmobile today and I was comparing the S6 edge and the S6. Both were on max brightness with adaptive color profile. The edge had more contrast richness than the non edge. How is this possible when they have the same specs? Are they different panels?
I doubt anything is different except the curve. I've had the same phone side by side a few times and they've never looked exactly the same.
I want to get the non edge because I like the feel better in my hand. However, it's bothers me that the edge screen color has more pop in it.
I believe there was actually an in-depth review put up that decided that the Edge's screen actually was mildly superior, though likely not noticeably so to most people.
Actually, I was at T Mobile again today to look at the phones. On second look, the non Edge had a better screen. It was sharper and didn't show some artifacts that I noticed on the edge. However, the edge still has more contrast. At this point I am considering the non edge because sharpness is important.
Specifically, I was focusing on the man's face. The photo doesn't show the significance of what I saw... But oh well here it is anyways

Is the 10+ display brighter then the n9

Hi I've still got my note 9 till the jiffy bag come for it and next to my note 10 plus when watching the same hdr video on both displays the note 9 seems to get quite a bit brighter is this something to do with note 10 calibration as I thought the note 10 was the brighter display
Thanks
Yes, the Note 10 plus display was tested and beat the Note 9 in every category. It is currently ranked the number one display in all smart phones.

How come when side by side when watching the same video the note 9 seems alot brighter with both phones having the same settings ect
I've done this and it seems a bit better just the note 9 seems more vivid and brighter on videos am I right in assuming it's the way the note 10 is calabrated?
Just watching hdr videos on youtube the note 9 definitely brighter and more punchy side by side but both in the setting menu ect they both seem equal (maybe the note 9 slightly brighter)
Is there a reason for this of might I have a defect I'm thinking it maybe something to do with Samsung removing more of the blue light in the dynamic amoled and been calibrated differently
Just want some confirmation before I send my note 9 back to samsung lol does anyone still have there note 9 to compare
Many thanks
Right just had both displays with adaptive brightness Same setting ect and shines a light to them both and the note 10 definitely get brighter then the note 9 so I'm assuming the dimmer video on youtube ect is down to Samsung going for a more natural look
Just hope in the future they bring back adaptive setting so we can have the more punchy colours because vivid isnt a patch on adaptive setting on the note 9:silly:
Note9 vivid is on by default. Note10 is normal by default
Then you have to add you may "unlocked" the last 10% of the Note9 for brightness and You didn't with the Note10.
My Note10 is about the same brightness than my Note9 fresh out of the box both is vivid and normal mode. I didn't unlock the last 10%

I've put both phones in performance mode put the note 9 in adaptive mode and the note 10 in vivid
The note 9 is still brighter and more vivid in videos compared to my note 10 I think it's the whole "natural" look samsung is going for I briefly had the xperia 1 and that was the same next tom my note 9
Just seem a little washed out the note 10 next to the note 9

Hi mate, well it's seems its not only mine note 10 plus it's a little bit washed in color, I bought in the beginning of this month, make all the updates, inclusive android 10 and reset after, my note 9 too android 10 and reset, and start comparing both, and notice the screen looks better in note 9, I even go to store to compare to others news, and it's the same, it's seems more vivid and accurate, both with QHD and note 10 plus seems in FHD, but that it's not the major problem, its the blacks, but only in low light, I noticed low light note 9 are more blacks, and note 10 are more dark grey, I don't know if it is because the screen is more bright outdoors or need a update, or dinamic amoled Is very different from super amoled, note 10 don't have the option of adaptive display, could be one of the reasons.
I,m using yet the note note9, because I was thinking in trade for a new one.
Do you still have both phones?
Thanks

Hi I dont have the note 9 no more but I've compared the note 10 plus to the missues iPhone 11 pro max and the iphone seems to be the brighter display and the whites on the iphone are incredible (just my opinion)
It really shows when playing hdr via youtube the iphone display crushes my note 10 in terms of brightness and colours popping
Not sure why I've tried tweaking around but the display just doesnt compare
I personally think it's something to do with the blue light filter samsung added to there dynamic panels and possible loading adaptive display mode didn't help lol
I'd still chose my note over the iPhone though

Colors look much different compared to Note 9's display

On my Note 20 ultra, colors, specifically dark colors look much different than my note 9 as well as Pixel 3 xl. Do you think mine is a defective unit or is it just how Note 20 display works?

There are some existing threads with some advice and discussion in.
People who are using dark Mode are suggested nkt to apply dark Mode to their wallpaper and choose vivid mode.
I have reported this here as well. Blacks aren't as deep on YouTube and chrome with dark mode on if you compare it to other past devices. At least he's even throughout the screen, so not horrible, but definitely not as "contrasty". It's like the blue light filter is on at a very low rate. Don't know if it's software Samsung can adjust or if it's due to the new screens being used. Some say the s20 ultra had it and one plus. Apparently those were addressed with a software update.
Yeah my YouTube seems kinda Grey
Very odd.
I just noticed that this morning.
Hope this can be fixed through software

Question S22 ultra washed out screen colors

I have just changed my s9 plus to s22 ultra and the first thing I realized was that the color saturation on s22 ultra was a little bit washed out in compare to my older phone even in vivid mode. I really loved the color tone in my s9 plus and other galaxy models. my phone has snapdragon cpu and I will be very thankful if someone helps me regarding this issue.

cheaper panels . Year on year they keep lowering the quality yet "improving " the numbers to appear better than previous models.
Is this color washed out in s22 ultra a known issue? are others experiencing this too?

I don't notice it that much to be honest. The Pixel 6 Pro i had was very washed out but Google go for a natural looking display, Iphone is the same and the Zfold3 I have has identical colours to the s22u I have. Perhaps Samsung are following Apple in that way now?

Do you use the S9+ also in vivid mode or is the S22u vivid washed out compared to S9+ natural?

Maybe it is decreasing the saturation in in the new models in order to get more natural colors and when you compare it with older samsung phones it is more recognizable

Yeah, I think that's what it might be.

Question Swapping my S22U to Pixel 7 Pro, final decision

We are a month before the s23u unveiling , I can still sell my s22u at 800ish $ but in a month it will start to loose resale value, so I am very tempted to switch to the Pixel 7 Pro
After a whole year with the s21u and 8 months with the s22u, I am bored and annoyed by samsung oneui, so I don't see myself another year with it.
The Oneplus 11 is just...average with a meh 2x zoom and nothing new as added value in the software and betting on a 11 Ultra is like betting on the lotery.
Xiaomi you will say? Well we don't have the Pro or Ultra series in my country (Lebanon) only the cheap ones and the UI is not sexy
The Pixel 7 Pro in another hand looks like a winner to me and is available in regular shops as we can't buy it online from Google, it's 1020$ for the 256gb model.
So here's the conclusion I got from reading reviews and videos, if I am wrong please let me know, or if you have additional point to add from your experience:
Advantages Pixel 7 Pro over the S22U:
-Rounded corners, more ergonomic
-Lighter by 17gm (I am pretty sure you can feel them on a smartphone) and 20gm with a s23u
-Rootable without the culprit of knox
-More responsive UI , what I HATE with samsung UI for the last 6 years is that you can't open anything as log as there is a micro scrolling animation, you end up tapping twice or 3 time to open an app or settings
-5x optical zoom is more useful than 10x in everyday life, at least for me, and the 2x hybrid zoom looks pretty sharp
-Speakers are louder and crisper
-Several new AI stuff, some gimmicky and other useful
-Tap tap on the back to launch an app
What I will loose:
-The slightly bigger screen size
-Shortcuts in the lockscreen
-Faster charging time, it takes about 50 mins to recharge from 30 to 100% on my s22u, how long your P7P takes?
-2 nano sim cards tray. I will have to transform my actual line to esim to let a place for a temporary sim card when traveling with the P7P
My questions:
-Can you use tap on the back while the screen is off, sort of replacing the missing shortcuts in the lockscreen? I use the torch light everyday
-Can you simply install a third party lockscreen or you will need a custom rom?
-Actual custom roms have the new AI stuff introduced on the P7 series?

Yes
There is really no need for custom ROMS anymore

Having used both the S22 Ultra and Pixel 7 Pro, I'd wait for the S23 Ultra, or even the Pixel 8 Pro. The S22 Ultra is simply the superior phone. The screen is way better (more vibrant, bright, and crisp), the scrolling is smoother (see the P7P scrolling issue), the battery life, charging speeds are better, and the reception / data speeds are better. Heck, using a series of mods, one can make the S22U UI look 95% like the Pixel UI without root.

I agree. I've had both the S22 Ultra since launch. I could get a Pixel 7 Pro through work for cheap (about <$200), and I've been using it since October. It's not a bad phone by any means, but overall I prefer the S22 Ultra. Better build quality, better screen, better battery life, better performance. Better, smoother overall experience (and I don't even use the stylus at all). I do like the faster shutter time of the P7P camera, though, so it's easier to capture moving objects.
I have deliberately hung on to my S22 Ultra. Samsung's Unpacked event is scheduled for February 1, when they will undoubtedly announce their S23 series. Assuming they will have similar trade-in deals as with the S22 Ultra last year (I ended up paying about $200 for my S22 Ultra with a trade-in of my S21 Ultra, with free $100 accessory credit to boot), I'm planning to take advantage of that and then sell my Pixel 7 Pro. I should easily come out ahead with that, with money left in my pocket. And even if I decide to keep my Pixel Pro 7, I can sell a brand-new S23 Ultra for a lot more than what I can get for my current S22 Ultra. Last year you got a $1,000 trade-in credit for the previous year's S21 Ultra. I would expect it should be similar this year, which should bring down the price for the S23 Ultra with S22 Ultra trade-in to $300 or so. And they might even throw in other incentives, such as accessory credit or a free watch.
You mention you could sell your S22 Ultra for $800 or so today. I highly doubt that. I'd be happy to get $600 for it, particularly with all the S22 Ultra discounts out there now to clear stock before the S23 Ultra launch.
Either way, it's a win-win for me, and I'll end up with a couple of hundred dollars in my pocket.
Good luck!

pixel 7 pro best decission overALL
I am not in the US to get the good prices of the samsung trade in and besides I am tired of sammy UI, I don't see myself using a Samsung another year.
Though the screen image quality and charging time are the only 2 things that are not letting me swap my s22u with the Pixel easily.
I can cope with the slower charging time but what about the screen that you like it much more than the 7 Pro ? Is it because it's more saturated ? I found the vivid mode too vivid and the normal one too bleach , that's why I use the Cinema mode which is hidden and can't be selected but by an adb command, this mode made the saturation right in the middle between normal and vivid, is the Pixel 7 Pro somehow just less saturated than the S22U vivid mode?
