Thanks to @moreD_cn we have Linux on our tablets again. See the instructions below. I will work on a new rootfs[/FONT] real soon. For now v8.0 does FULLY FUNCTION. See the users thread for instructions!
I only quickly modified those instructions... Please let me know if I made errors. :silly:
User thread is here
Github Workdowg - TF700t-arch repo - rootfs configs and how to's on building rootfs
Github rabits tf700 repo - He has kernel and Ubuntu rootfs building stuff
My goal a the time is to keep this Arch install up to date through patches. Arch is a very cutting edge OS and doesn't take to kindly to it's files getting crossed. I will strive to make monthly base rootfs snapshots and supply an installer to make it up to date with the current patches. This will be mostly for those joining late or wish a clean start.
ToDo List:
- Power management - sleep
- CPU scaling
- Tegra drivers (At the moment they break X)
- Custom tailor rabits installer to accomplish the patching Arch will need... He has a great base for me to work off. I just need to learn the in's and outs of the Aroma Installer...
- Bluetooth
- Cameras
This is just to get the ball rolling here... This list is purposely short to allow for users to get their needs and suggestions accross to me. Through your participation, I will continue to add items YOU want and remove/switch out packages we deem are good for the whole.

New base rootfs is up for this month, as promised. Remember this is the plain Jane no wireless even install.
User thread (post #2)
Haven't forgotten the project... Just had a busy spring clean up day... I am going to try some stuff this evening...
Project on hold...
Update April 8, 2013: This project is temporarily on hold. As is the rootfs works well enough on CROMI 3.4.7. I have gotten nowhere towards getting a dual-boot to work on the stock 4.2.1 I have installed (well I got boot loops... ). The moment I can either get a bootable kernel to work or someone does, delelopment will continue...
Sorry.
ok =) i can join to the test group =) just i hope, that i don't brick my device cause i do backup nandroid/twrp.

The masses have had their say (all 21 of them...lol)
Power management it is then... I will have to do some recovery switching this week and see if I can get the pad to:
1) use less power...2) scale the cpu's (easy really)3) stop display from sleeping after standing by (SOD - Sleep of Death)4) get suspend to work (this will be the hardest and may never be workable!)
I'm positive getting the display to go into stand by is going to be THE biggest power saver at the moment.
It has been a while... still waiting for @rabits to figure out the multiboot on the new bootloader/kernel. Until then, Arch had some big changes so this weekend I will restore one of my old CROMi setups and put up an updated basic and openbox versions for those still able to use this....

I noticed this also, of the top of my head i think its sleep related, might be something to do with moreD_cn's suspend patch? if thats even possible?
Ive been trying to get linux to work for a while now, i want to use a existing rootfs from my 4.1 install, i've moved it back and forth from /data/media/linux to /data/media/0/linux, but i can't get it to see it. You said in your instructions that the compressed rootfs had to be on a microsd card, i don't have one but is it able to work from /data/media still?
I really want to help out more with this project, im just lacking in a bit of linux know-how. Im dreaming of merging the linux installer with sbdags cromi-x installer with cross-device support........... one day
Hi all,
This is another JB 4.2.1 Custom rom that will work for our tf700 code name "Hairy Bean" - **Unleash The Beast!**". Created by developer flumpster, the same dev that helped sdbags with the new updated TWRP2.4.4.0. I have been running this rom for a bout a week and no issue so far. For more details you can find them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
Full credit by Flumpster.
Just a few highlights:
1. The latest Android JB 4.2.1 build.
2. Custom kernel to work with data2sd or without. (selectable during installation)
3. Init.d scripting enabled in kernel ramdisk
4. Work with TF201, TF300 and TF700 (selectable during installation, also for WW or US)
5. Dual Launcher - Stock 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 (Make sure you disabled Animation in settings-> developer options for smoothness).
6. Custom background and a lot of options during installation.
Pretty simple to flash. Here is how to:
1. Flash sdbags "Bootloader and patched TWRP 2.4.4.0 DOWNLOAD" can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223918
2. Use the new updated TWRP to flash Hairybeen 2.11 can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
That's it, enjoy and be graceful that we have another rom to play with.
Oh ..sh...t , I mistaken posted in a wrong section, please move to General Section. Sorry people.
Either way I may try it out. Can it be flashed over the stock TF700 rom that sbdags posted? and can it,if I want to later,be flashed over with the new Cromi when it is released?

yes, just wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash it, very simple.
Edit: Rule of thumb is every time you switch from one custom rom to another you should wipe data (may not need too). However, we can do it this way without data wipe.
1. Take a nandroid backup of your current sdbags stock rom
2. Wipe cache/davlik cache and flash Hairybean rom
To go back without data wipe:
1. Restore sdbags stock rom from nandroid backup.
2. Flash sdbags new 4.2 cromi.
Hi mate,
like you already said this should be posted in the General forum. On the other hand you encourage the cross-flashing (that rom was developed for a different device) wich imho is not good.
If the rom developer thinks that his rom is safe for the TF700T should feel free to open a thread here in the Development forum.

I already spoke to developer and he confirmed it's working for tf700. I won't post here unless I tried it myself first. In the installation, there is an option for tf700.
I've tested this for flumpster. It works on the TF700 fine.
It's based from the TF300 10.6.1.8 source with a few things nicked from the TF700 rom.
It's a similar and good alternative to CROMi-X

Am I over here also? I must have missed this thread
I never intended to release this onto the tf300 or tf700 as I don't really have the time to give support on the three threads.
I made it compatible tho as some of my beta testers own the devices and wanted to use it on them also.
Let me know how the ROM works for you and if the new 2.2 release is OK.
Getting Boot Loop
I installed per instructions and it is constantly booting to the ASUS flash screen.
I thought this might be the 30-60 minute "letting the rom casche" as mentioned in the instructions - but it has been doing it for over an hour.
Any help or should I just re-flash TWRP and re-flash my previous rom?

Which kernel did you flash when you whent through the set up?
I first tried the recommended kernel but got stuck on the Asus screen boot looping, so I then tried the stock kernel from the kernel selection and that worked just fine.
Unfortunately any stock kernel other than what is installed with ROM causes the screen to go wack and font to shrink

Check/edit the dpi settings (lcd_density) in /system/build.prop.
The issue is that the kernel offered with this ROM includes the 240dpi lock in init.04.rc and the default Asus build.prop is stuck at 160dpi. So once you unlock the kernel (by using one of the ones in cromi-x like that's or mine) you get 160dpi. Do as_that says and edit the DPI setting in the build.prop to fix.
I have spoken with flumpster about this and he will probably update to allow multi DPI settings to the tf700. Also this version is out of date. 2.2 is out now

You must use twrp for sure. The two best ROMS out there are cyanogen mod and CROMIX. Also Hundsbuah's kernel for CROMIX is excellent. Pimp my ROM is a good app for modding but only use it on cyanogen or CROMIX.

LOL! Really.
Cromi-X is the easiest recommendation on your to-do list, and Pimp My ROM really does neat things when using in conjunction with lucius.zen's excellent tweaking guide. pjc21 has some great color modifications out there for CROMI(-X) that are really worth tryig out.
And as Tylorw has already put forward -- use Goo Manager to install TWRP and make absolutely sure that you have the latest version! -- as we speak, that'd be 2.5.0.0 -- because CWM seems to have some trouble handling Android versions of 4.2.x properly and may brick your new toy.

I've seen a lively discussion in here somewhere (probably the CROMI thread) in which our guru _that delivered the coup de grace to the ODEX/DEODEX myth -- it only matters insofar as you want to tweak and modify (specifically: theme). Once booted, the same code is run by both versions -- the boot of one of them (I believe DEODEX, but I may be 100% wrong there) takes longer because the code to be run has to be generated first. As in the end it doesn't matter -- and since I have theming options available for both versions due to pjc21's efforts -- I run whatever version comes out first. As long as you do not clean the caches and reboot, there's no speed difference except for placebo.

CROMi will make the device what it is supposed to be. Had mine for 6 months before taking the leap and I wish I had not waited so long, especially given I have extended coverage through best buy, thus making a bricked device covered via insurance. On that note, it may be worth it to look into some type of supplemental coverage for a safety net in case (heaven forbid) something does happen. However, should you choose not to, I have been researching this stuff and reading up on the thread daily (and almost everything on the 3.x thread) for the last 2 months and I have just recently for the first time seen a post about someone possibly bricking their device. Im pretty sure it was because they did not have the right version of TWRP. This speaks milestones to the quality of dev that SDBags (CROMi dev) is. The ROM is stable and fast, and if you follow his instructions vigilantly, you will most likely unlock the true potential of the TF700 and be even happier. Good luck!
Edit: As far as Kernels go, I have seen mixed things about Hunds, if I were you I would go with the stock based kernel by _that2 (as in version 2) and run that for a few days before you decide if you wanna make any kernel tweaks. His is the most stable. Afterwards, you can dirty flash over if you want to switch kernels, just wipe dalvik and cache (not factory reset) when done.
And stick with the stock launcher

There is no need to wipe anything when changing kernels, it's just wasted time.
Was wondering if there is any chance to get this ROM ported or converted to the TF700t. A (Lollipop 5.0 ROM)

Beautiful ROM he has done a nice job. Hope we can see it here.
Any information on the how to's or if at all possible would be greatly appreciated.

Katkiss on TF700t
Have heard some have Lollipop running on the TF700t from the TF300t forum.
The problem is getting the right CM11 kernel from kitkat.
Install= Katkiss ROM (5.0) + CM11 kernel + gapps (5.0)= Lollipop
However I can not find the right kernel. "GRIMLOCK and THAT" kernel do no work
Boots to the animation but loops. Without right kernel tablet just goes into vibration frenzy
Any suggestions?

Josh he sent me this in a message.
Yeah that's what I did for the TF201, using grimlock kernel + Katkiss lollipop init scripts & binaries in the kernel ramdisk.
I wouldn't recommend using a full CM11 / KitKat kernel zip.
There are a few things changed in the lollipop ramdisk
best thing would be to use the kernel binary from the KitKat kernel then repack it with lollipop ramdisk.
Not sure what it means but if it helps. He now has Lollipop running on I believe 3 ASUS machines. tf101 and TF201 and tf300.
I saw it running beautiful on the TF300.
Hope all goes well.

It might work but there other things at play. The TF201 is pretty much the same as the TF300t whereas the TF700 has some subtle differences. Using this method might get it to boot but it could have other issues at play.

There is more to it than that, as the TF700 version of the Grimlock kernel is designed to work with TF700 roms. The kernels themselves (zImage) are the same for the devices but the ROMS are different. The best experience would to be to use TF700 device trees and them compile them with Katkiss to create an LP version of it. That isn't as simple as flipping a switch.

I have TF300t and TF700t also . I love Katkiss Lollipop on my TF300t so I put it on my TF700t to see if it would work. Same thing happened to me. TF700 would not fully boot and on reboot would just buzz. So I wiped, re-flashed KatKiss-5.0_TF300T_014b ROM and then flashed the TF201_CompatibilityPack_LP-5.0_003 (found on the same Katkiss link below). Yeah! it boots. Seems every thing is working (docking, both batteries, camera w/ LED flash and video recording, bluetooth recognized my speakers, adaptive brightness, max CPU 1800 MHz, hdmi) EXCEPT the wifi won't turn on. It just sits at "Turning Wi-Fi on..." Yes I had working on wifi prior.
Those downloads can be found here KatKiss ROM Lollipop 5.0.1_r1 Asus TF300T
I really want this to work. Any info of what can be done or if anybody wants to pick this up.... please? :fingers-crossed:

I now have a Booting TF700 With Katkiss lollipop and kernel-that11-lollipop-dirty_signed.zip
I just flashed the kitkass tf201 rom with your kernel and it does boot. The resolution does seem a little off though, but only with the stock launcher. I downloaded apex and it seems to help. But it does boot with working wifi!
Thank you!

I never said this kernel would work for a 201 ?
We would expect the kernel here, NOT to boot on a 201
Thx Josh
I flashed the tf201 rom with your kernel on the tf700 and it boots fine. Thats what i meant, sorry for the confusion

LOL! Sounds like a rental!
@lj50036
I think it's about time you release that homebrew of yours. It runs great anyway and I think people are getting desperate to get ANYTHING Lollipop on this tablet.
A TF300 rom with a TF201 comaptability pack and a TF700 kernel?????? Talk abut a ZOMBI!
LMAO!!!!!!

Anyone know if there's marshmallow or lollipop rom for asus p1801_T? Thanks..
I've been searching for days. No luck finding any form of a update or custom rom. Maybe a linux flavour could work on the tablet

The open source kernel is available for download on the asus site. Would it be possible to copy the drivers over to a more recent android version?

Yes,but you have to unlock the bootloader first, then you can use the twrp of tf300
well, finnaly got unlocked P1801-T with TWRP installed)
i've use to about 7 ROM's (from TF300 and TF700) - flashing no problem, loading, launcher - everithing works fine.. except wifi and camera))
so, if anyone of us can make working port from TF700 or TF300, we can easily flash it and test it)
*pardon my english
This would be great

oh, sorry) just use apk from asus: Unlock_v8.apk
you can find it in google)
It seems, that wifi works on custom roms for the tf700t based on android 4.2.
Camera and wifi working on CROMi-X 5.4 RESURRECTED, flashed with twrp-3.2.1-0-tf700t.img.
Has anyone tried Lineage is on this?
None of the tf700 katkiss rom will work properly (no WiFi)' but I'm thinking Los might be the way to upgrade this tablet since it's an amr build and specs show it should work since all Asus transformer ( rooted) can install CM.

Hi,Could you describe which ROM you tested is fine with Camera but not for wifi?
Maybe we can modify the working ROM's wifi module for it to work.I have seen it people do it in android TV box'ROM for different wifi chip after rooting.
So the question is which ROM works all fine except wifi?
