Quite sure it's a definite bricked Tab 2 10.1 - But hey...us know more than I - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here's the thing; I still own a Galaxy Tab 2 that I hardly ever use. But having bought Panasonic Lumix GH3 I suddenly found it useful. The GH3 can only be completely controlled through a 'Lumix Link' app and Panasonic in all their (money making) wisdom decided to stop developing at 4.2.2 (Jellybean I think).
It appeared I had stopped upgrading the Tab 2 at cyanogenmod 13. I remember being happy that CM had by then created a complete ecosystem with automatic downloads and their own recovery image. Unfortunately right after that they stopped the development of all. And the recovery/boot image was no longer recognized by W10 1909. In weeks I found no way to get Odin to connect because the device simply wasn't recognized. Than I discovered ADB over wifi and that seemed to work!
After trying out a few nights, reading a lot of forum posts that would redirect me to a usb connection eventually all the time. But then today came the breakthrough.
1. .\adb root (once connected of course)
2. .\adb disable-verity
3. .\adb remount --> remount succeeded
4. .\adb shell rm /dev/block/mmcblk0p6
5. .\adb shell "dd if=/storage/6AC8-29A7/twrp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6" (having put the twrp.img on my sdcard)
35816+1 records in
35816+1 records out
18337808 bytes transferred in 0.921 secs (19910757 bytes/sec) was the result
6. .\adb reboot recovery
and it hangs on the black screen with the white letters "Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1"!
Device not recognized through usb
And I realized I would have most likely done step 6:
.\adb enable-verity
No button combination brings me anything anymore unless there is a secret one left I don't know about.
Can any experienced android/ Samsung expert please tell me if I can throw away my device :crying:? Because I think so. But if there's any chance....
Edit: after a complete battery drain the tablet boots into system again. I tried my suspected method but to no avail. I need to get some SU installed and make sure it's rooted.

Try entering Samsung Download mode via RESISTOR TRICK and flash official tar via Odin if still needed. Get it from eg. from HERE.

[au KDDI Sharp IS03] - General Info/Temporary Root/Dump

Looking for anyone who can help progress things further for this phone. No, I'm not a developer, but I'm learning what I can. Your advice and suggestions are most welcome.
Here's a quick run-down of the phone (as of 10/20/2011) :
Full Spec Sheet
Model No. - IS03
Android Version - 2.2.1 (Froyo)
Baseband/Build Number - 01.01.05 (.06 is available but it breaks the temp root)
Bootloader/Fastboot/Recovery modes are all inaccessible

What am I missing from this checklist?
Temporary Rooting Guide (ISuhax306)
Thanks to cielavenir, goroh_kun, and love_marijuana for the work they've been putting in. This method works if your IS03 is on 2.2.1, with Baseband/Build at 01.01.05. If your Baseband/Build is at 01.01.06 or higher, THIS WILL NOT WORK.
You will need ISuhax306.7z, which is attached in this post.
Do this at your own risk. We are not responsible for any adverse effects that you may cause by attempting these methods.

You are not alone!
I got my IS03 the first day it was out. Only got it, because it was the best Android phone on au so far. Even though the IS06 will be better. But I needed a contract as soon as possible. Kind of nice phone, but lots of things i don't like. Like the launcher (try ADW.Launcher - can be found in the android market - for home, is a lot faster and looking nicer).
I would love to root this IS03 device to get wifi tether so I can use my Nexus One with Gingerbread soon .
I have been in Android for a long time. Started with the ADP1, Nexus One and now IS03. As well I am working as an Android App Developer for tonchidot (creators of SekaiCamera). So I know my way around Android. But I am not sure how to root the IS03 or even how to try. And a little afraid of ruining my phone . Nexus One is a little different. because i don't depend on it. But I need the IS03 for calling. And can not use my Nexus One on au . If I could I would. That is why i need wifi tether as soon as possible .
Any recommendations on Rooting? Let me know and I will try!
Have you tried the regular rooting tools, just for kicks?
such as z4root and try both perm and temp root...
If you don't mind me borrowing some of your time to work out things, I could try out a few things with rooting, pm me your information(skype/gtalk/msn/aim/etc )

Thank you for your response! I recognize you from twitter when I tried to google up information regarding the IS03. I'm trying ADW right now after you suggested it. I was using Launcher Pro, it was all right; however, ADW seems to be a little smoother.
I'm really scared to try to attempt any rooting procedure with my phone too. I do have a backup phone but I'd hate to brick my new purchase so I definitely need to do my research.
That's cool that you work with tonchidot, I've used Sekai Camera a couple times to test it out, but there really isn't too much activity around me other than a lot of landmarks.
Anyways, if I come up with any information I'll let you know on this thread.

I haven't tried any regular rooting tools just yet. I'm still just getting used to using it. As I find out more, especially in terms of bricking, booting into recovery, etc, I'll probably try some rooting tools.
Thanks for your response too, I will PM you with my information shortly.
just trying to boot into recovery mode...
I was trying to see if I could boot the phone into recovery mode in the first place, all my attempts have failed so far.
There's the power button, volume up and volume down buttons, and the camera button. Hidden from view (need to take off the back cover) is the reset button.
On a sidenote, I timed the startup process just for kicks:
~2 seconds - "Android au with Google" logo appears
~30 s - IS03 animation appears
~40 s - screen brightens slightly
~43 s - Monochromatic menu lights up, IS03 animation is still playing
~50 s - "Reading au card..." message replaces IS03 animation
~53 s - Home screen with Unlock pattern appears
Anyways, back to this recovery mode business: I tried a method that a couple of other websites suggested which was a combination of Vup and CAM being pressed while being powered on. That didn't work, so I tried all sorts of combinations:
Hold POWER throughout startup
Hold Vup only X
Hold Vdown only X
Hold CAM only X
Hold Vup and CAM X
Hold Vdown and CAM X
Hold ALL X
Power on and release power button but
Hold Vup only X
Hold Vdown only X
Hold CAM only X
Hold Vup and CAM X
Hold Vdown and CAM X
Hold ALL X
During Startup
Hold CAM, press HOME X
Hold Vup and CAM, press HOME X
At this point, I tried messing around with the reset button. All the reset button does is restart the phone while powered on. Nothing happens if the reset button is pressed while the phone is off. I still tried various combinations anyways but nothing worked.
After perusing some of the other threads, perhaps my phone has this recovery option disabled (likely), doesn't have such a mode (erm, unlikely?), or I just haven't found the right combination yet (also likely).
It's too bad this phone is only in Japan in the moment. I better brush up on my Japanese...
Tested some Android codes via this page
The only code that seems to work is *#*#4636#*#* which brings up general information that is otherwise easily accessible in the normal menus in this phone.
Hmmm.
z4root attempt
I've just successfully used z4root's temporary root feature to root the phone. <---- I jumped the gun when I ran z4root for the first time and it said it was successful, oops.
Now what? I don't want to try the permanent root solution yet, especially if I don't know how to get my phone into recovery mode yet.
At the moment:
1. z4root temporary root 'works' (USB debugging needs to be checked)
2. Superuser icon is in the drawer
3. BusyBox is not installed as z4root says it will do
4. Downloaded Titanium Backup, program doesn't work (asks to verify rom root and installation of BusyBox)
5. Installing BusyBox from Titanium Backup doesn't seem to work
6. Installed BusyBox installer from the Market, that works
7. Running the newly installed BusyBox installer, it tells me that I don't have root
Regarding step 7: I'm guessing that BusyBox failed to install during the z4root process even though z4root 'worked', plus trying to install via Titanium Backup didn't work as well. At this point, looks like the temporary root solution is a false positive pending further testing.
Universal Androot time.
That was quick. Attempting to install Superuser for Android 2.0-2.2 (or even 1.5-1.6) didn't work. Here's what I get:
*Rooting your device, please wait...
Generating exploit .. [OK]
Generating su .. [OK]
Generating Superuser.apk .. [OK]
Generating root script .. [OK]
*after about 10 seconds, changes to Installing toolkit ..
After roughly 20 seconds, I get this message:
Failed ! No ~~~ Fu goo ~~~
It looks like the process fails somewhere during the toolkit installation.
Boo.
ADB issues
Did it really take this long just to resolve all the ADB issues? All I wanted to do was take a simple screenshot of my phone
When I plugged my phone into my computer, all of the drivers EXCEPT the ADB installed just fine.
1. Install Android SDK and JRE SDK, Eclipse is optional since I'm not really a developer (link)
2. Install PDAnet for Android (link)
3. Ensure that your ADB files are in the correct folder (at least for the ddms.bat stuff...) (link)
So...I can take some screenshots now...yippee.
Trying SuperOneClick
Decided to give this program a chance too since I tried the other ones, and I was finally able to get the ADB driver to work.
First Method
1. Restarted the phone
2. USB Debugging is CHECKED
3. Plugged phone into the netbook
4. Started SuperOneClick, clicked Root
5. SuperOneClick will start looping after running RATC and trying to restart the ADB server. Left it like this for 5 minutes.
6a. IF I uncheck USB debugging while it says "Waiting for device" with the USB connection sound indicating a detected device, USB disconnection sound will play and program will wait. If I check USB DEBUGGING again then the program will resume looping
6b. IF I uncheck USB debugging at any time during the loop when the USB disconnection sound has already played (so before the starting up sound can play), the program will be unable to resume looping and just freeze despite shutting off any processes related to this procedure. At this point I need to restart both my netbook and my phone
7. Letting SOC loop for about 10 minutes will result in the program saying NOT RESPONDING and would then need a fresh restart
Code:
Killing ADB Server...
OK
Starting ADB Server...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
OK
Waiting for device...
OK
Pushing rageagainstthecage...
21 KB/s (5392 bytes in 0.249s)
OK
chmod rageagainstthecage...
OK
Running rageagainstthecage...
OK
***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING, TRY DISABLING USB DEBUGGING NOW***
Killing ADB Server...
OK
Starting ADB Server...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
OK
Waiting for device...
OK
Running rageagainstthecage...
OK
***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING, TRY DISABLING USB DEBUGGING NOW***
Second Method
1. Leave USB DEBUGGING unchecked
2. Plug phone in, start SOC, click Root
3. When SOC says "Waiting for device", check USB DEBUGGING
4. RATC should start
5. When SOC says "Starting ADB server", uncheck USB DEB, check USB DEB, uncheck USB DEB again before the "Waiting for device" message appears again
I usually can't get this timing right due to some lag on my phone. I got it right a couple of times and after about a minute, SOC will have the NOT RESPONDING indicator on again. At this point, I can check USB DEB and the program might start on a loop again, or I need to restart...again.
With either of the two methods, if I go into my Task Manager on my netbook and kill one of the two ADB.exe (usually the one with the lower memory value) processes, then the program will say FAILED, like so:
Code:
***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING, TRY DISABLING USB DEBUGGING NOW***
Killing ADB Server...
OK
Starting ADB Server...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
OK
Waiting for device...
OK
Running rageagainstthecage...
FAILED
Third Method
1. Power off phone, restart netbook
2. Start SOC, click Root
3. When "Waiting for device" message appears, connect phone to netbook
4a. If USB DEB was checked before turning off the phone, SOC will do the looping thing again when the phone is finished turning on
4b. If USB DEB was unchecked before turning off the phone, nothing happens when the phone comes back online
== tl;dr ==
It looks like it's getting stuck at the RATC process and loops from there until it freezes. Range of problems may include: bad USB cables, bad USB ports, and/or this IS03 is one tough SOB.
z4root permanent root option
Just tried the permanent option with z4root.
Similar process that the temporary process did except the phone rebooted. After the reboot, everything seemed to be working as normal.
BusyBox, Titanium Backup, and Wireless Tether all say I am not rooted, though.
So much for that.
Safe Mode
My efforts to boot the phone into recovery mode have led me into Safe Mode instead.
No big deal.
I still haven't found a surefire way to get into Safe Mode except to keep mashing the Volume Up and Camera buttons while pressing the monochromatic buttons when they finally light up just before the home screen appears.
Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta 5, Recovery Mode
Interesting thing about this version is that it adds a Soft Root as well as logging to the SDCARD.
1. Uninstalled Universal Androot 1.6.1 (stable)
2. Installed Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta 5 from the SDCARD using App Install
3. Tried all options, including the option not to install Superuser
RESULT: Failed! No ~~~ Fu Goo ~~~
Would you look at that? I can put my phone into recovery mode through adb commands...huh.
I have a IS03 from au as well, so I appreciate your efforts in this. So far the phone will do, but I do find it strange that I can't use Skype over wifi, instead of 3g...

Thanks for your comments. I feel I'm not really doing much except for poking around to see what kind of reaction I get from the IS03.
If I stumble on something worthwhile, it'll be posted here.
As far as your Skype problem is concerned, when you use Skype, it switches from your WiFi connection to 3g? I believe I can use Skype with my WiFi, but I'll have to pay closer attention to that.
Bootloader and Recovery reboot via ADB
Let's see what happens if I try to reboot my phone via ADB in either recovery or bootloader mode.
According to this site, if I'm not mistaken, I anticipate seeing some menu options pop up when I get into either recovery or bootloader mode.
Rebooting into Recovery Mode
1. Unmount SDCARD
2. USB DEBUG is checked
3. Plug the phone into the netbook
4. Windows+R 'cmd' to bring up the prompt
5. get to android-sdk-windows/tools directory
6. adb devices to ensure that the device is listed
7. adb reboot recovery to restart the phone into recovery
Phone reboots and shows a white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark with the green droid icon in front of it. What happens when I do some button combinations? Let's see...
VolUP + CAM = FAIL
VolDN + CAM = FAIL
POW + CAM = FAIL
POW + VolUP = FAIL
POW + VolDN = FAIL
POW + VolUP + CAM = FAIL
POW + VolDN + CAM = FAIL
VolDN + VolUP + CAM = FAIL
Randomly pressing all buttons = FAIL
I can't access any menu here...
Rebooting into Bootloader Mode
Same steps as before, except
7. adb reboot-bootloader to restart the phone into bootloader
The phone restarts and the Android AU with Google logo appears...and it seems to be stuck at this part. Button presses do nothing, no menu or text.
With either method, I have to take out the battery.
Mistaken, I am.
ADB Driver
Greetings!
It seems this is the only place I've seen for english speaking IS03 help. I saw that you were able to install the ADB drivers. Are you using a Japanese version of windows?
I was able to get the USB drivers from Sharp's site, but no luck in getting them to work...
I'm using Win 7 64bit, but it seems I can't get the ADB interface to be recognized.
Anyhow, any help would greatly appreciated.
adb reboot recovery
starts recovery.. but do not get the menu (no matter which buttons i press)
adb reboot bootloader => hangs in booting? or is that the bootloader?
fastboot devices => no devices.. well. it was worth a try
IS03 ADB Drivers
Well, strangely enough, the IS03 drivers wouldn't install for me, but these would:
sh-dev.sharp.co.jp/android/modules/driver/index.php?/003sh/download
(forum wouldn't let me post the link...)
When I have my phone plugged in and I have an emulator running, I get this:
List of devices attached
SSHEV080667 device
emulator-5554 device
I'm assuming the SSHEV device is my IS03, and the other is obvious...
I haven't gotten to much farther than this, but I thought I'd share...The drivers specific for the IS03 Win 7 64bit at this address:
k-tai.sharp.co.jp/support/a/is03/download/usb/index.html
...they didn't work for me. When trying to install the drivers, they weren't recognized.
I'll post more when I get a bit farther...

Broken screen, need to retrieve files off phone! help please

My screen first cracked and then the LCD completely went now... I have files I need to retrieve off the phone. It is rooted and running some ICS build... I believe the phone is in USB debugging mode, the screen still 'works' I can unlock the phone but nothing is displayed on the screen. Possibly someone could help me out with the adb process for pulling the contents off the /sd
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated, thank you for your time.
ur usb mass storage should still work. can u just plug ur phone to a usb port and get things off the phone ?
As previously stated. I believe the phone was in USB debugging mode. And now the screen is completely black... impossible to navigate to where i need to be.
You'll need adb setup on your computer, and you'll need to cd your way into the folder with adb.exe. Forgive me for hotlinking, but this will make it easier: Download this file, courtesy of NexusSHacks.com (I believe it is Zedomax around here). I would advise to unzip the contents in this file to your C:\Nexus directory, so that adb.exe is at C:\Nexus\adb.exe.
Now, plug in your phone. Open your start menu and search for "cmd" and open up Command Prompt. This is the basic Windows CLI (Command Line Interface).
First, you'll need to open the directory of the Nexus folder you created earlier. To do this, type in the command prompt:
Code:
cd C:\Nexus
Now, you want to make sure adb sees your phone:
Code:
adb devices
The adb service should start and if it sees your phone it will pop up a serial number. If there is no serial number, you can't use adb while inside android and you'll need to tick the option or find an alternative way. Assuming it finds your device, you are good to go.
In order to copy the /sdcard folder of your Nexus S, you will use the pull command. We will throw all of the files into C:\Nexus\sdcard, for reference. So in the command prompt, type:
Code:
adb pull /sdcard .\sdcard
It looks a little confusing but don't stress. Just make sure you type it in exactly (dot, correct slash, etc). This will take a little while since it might transfer up to ~15GB worth. You'll see a new line with "C:\Nexus>" with a flashing cursor when it is done. Then you can view all the contents of your sdcard at C:\Nexus\sdcard and do with them as you please.
Also note, for this you'll need up to ~15GB of free space on your C:\ partition, make sure you have this before you start. Good luck
old post I know, but I just dropped my Samsung Captivate (rooted with debugging on) and internal screen cracked (gorilla glass is perfectly fine!), so I am in the same boat. After DAYS... actually DAYS of trying everything from every forum I FOUND A FIX!!!
Now admittedly, I am unsure which of these two (or both) fixed the issue, but here is what I did:
via Google Play's online "shop", I installed "Auto Mount Your SD Card" by JRTStudio (admittingly, unsure if this did anything as I cannot verify if it installed or anything via the phone)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5qcnRzdHVkaW8uYXV0b21vdW50Il0.
then I DL'ed MoboRobo and after a few frustrated phone reboots, usb cable connections and much cursing IT CONNECTED!
http://www.moborobo.com/
I am currently DLing all my files from my broken phone!
I had to pass this along as I said... NOBODY seems to know about this as it has taken me DAYS to do this! Not even ATT (Current carrier) nor Spring (whom I am switching to in a month or so) could help me!
You save my life with that "moborobo". Thank you very much.
Glad I could help!!!
Thanks went to both of u, quit important piece of knowledge.
One question; r u downloading "moborobo" on ur Android, on your pc or on both of them?
just on PC, not needed on the phone unless you want to go via WiFi

What do you mean by this?
My adb service doesn't detect my phone, I used Droidzone's tutorial. I believe usb debugging needs to be on for adb to work, which in my case is useless cause my screen is broken so can't turn on usb debugging.

Reboot to recovery. Bam, working ADB. You can navigate there pretty easily. Pull battery, then re-insert. VOL + & PWR, two click on VOL -, PWR button once. You're in recovery now.
QtADB also can be used is this case

That's a little tough. I'm using a Galaxy S so I'm following instructions for that, but it's hard to know if I'm in recovery mode or not. Since adb doesn't detect the device, it's hard to know whether the phone went into recovery mode, or whether adb is setup correctly. It would be handy for a voice sample to play "recovery mode" once the phone boots into it.

You're in the wrong forum, then.
And whether or not adb is installed properly, you would know in your device manager under Windows. Appears as a device.

Ok... Galaxy S i9000 stuff goes in the Galaxy S i9000 forum.... that's probably why my other post got deleted!
As for adb... it appears as a process in task manager, so it's running - I know that much. It's not appearing as a device in device manager (why would it if it's a process? or are you referring to my phone appearing as a device?)
Only areas I can think of that aren't correct are the environment variable and the way I'm doing recovery mode. Since I can't see the screen, I don't know which one is causing the issue! :crying:

It looks a little confusing but don't stress. Just make sure you type it in exactly (dot, correct slash, etc). This will take a little while since it might transfer up to ~15GB worth. You'll see a new line with "C:\Nexus>" with a flashing cursor when it is done. Then you can view all the contents of your sdcard at C:\Nexus\sdcard and do with them as you please.

This happened to me as well. You have to make sure that your phone has its sdcard folder mounted. Type "adb shell" to get access to the phones command terminal. Then type in "mount /sdcard" I think, or maybe it was "mount sdcard". Either way will probably work so long as you are in the root directory of the phone. You can navigate around in the phone just like a normal linux terminal. "ls" shows list of files and folders in the current directory, "cd foldername" moves into a folder, "cd ../" moves back, "cd /" goes to root directory, etc. Anyhow, once you have mounted the sdcard, you can type exit to leave the shell terminal, and then issue the command "adb pull /sdcard .\sdcard" to get the files. I had a custom rom image in the root of my sdcard so the move took quite a while ~15 minutes. On success of the pull command you should see a bunch of statuses like:
pull: sdcard/data/somefile -> .\sdcard/data/somefile
pull: sdcard/DCIM/somefile -> .\sdcard/DCIM/somefile
.
.
.
XXXX files pulled. 0 files skipped
(Some more transmission stats)
Hope it works out for who ever reads this.
Side note:
On my phone the screen was smashed. I replaced it and it still would not turn on, but it was still running. I had a rooted phone with CM10 rom on it. ADB debugging was one (if its off your pretty much screwed). I started up the phone, and plugged in the usb cable. I tried to use both adb and fastboot from windows terminal. "fastboot devices" would echo back nothing, and "adb devices" would echo back my phone's device number but state it was offline. So to get it online I did the following:
1.) pull batttery.
2.) boot into bootloader (hold power and volume up) the phone shouldn't vibrate if it does you have just normally powered it on. It took me quite a few times to get this to go into the bootloader. To make sure you get in the bootloader type "fastboot devices". If nothing comes up you not there.
3.) once verified you are in the bootloader you need to go into recover mode. Press volume down twice and then hit power (this would normally move the cursor on your phone down to recovery and select it if you could see whats happening on the screen).
4.) wait a bit for it to load into recovery, try typing "adb devices". You should eventually see you device show up as online. At this point you may enter the shell as above, mount the sdcard, exit the shell and pull your files.
Windows instuctions:
Prerequisites are installing adb.exe and fastboot.exe via installing the Android SDK on your computer. They will show up in the platform-tools folder of the install location. Add that folder to your environmental path variable so you can run the ADB and fastboot commands from any folder. Install the ADB driver for your phone (allows you to issue adb commands to your phone when USB is plugged in) by plugging in your phone and going to device manager, find your phone which should show up as a exclamation point, right click update driver, click "browse...", then "let me pick...", click top entry something like "show all", and then let the list populate. On the left look for "samsung" and then select the first one that is something like "samsung adb driver interface". And you should be good to go.
Sorry for the long winded post, I just like to try and explain as much as possible.

[SOLVED] Problems rooting using debugfs method

Hi everyone, I've been doing a good bit of googling and found nothing yet, so if this has been asked before I'm very sorry but I haven't yet seen anyone on the forum with the exact same issue. I actually updated to JB OTA when I first got the device in Canada (US version), when I got back to the UK I decided to root, but then found out that you can't on JB, luckily I managed to downgrade to ICS V9.4.5.30 downloaded from the ASUS website! I was not able to downgrade to an earlier version however, stock recovery wouldn't allow it so NVFLASH root method is out the window... Now I would prefer not to unlock my bootloader for now.
When running debugfs.bin 1 click root method, on my desktop (not run as admin) it says:
Waiting for device to be detected...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
*daemon started successfully *
'find" is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Less than half a second later it just closes down.
When run as admin, it does the same thing and instead of closing down it goes back to the first screen where you can select what method you want to use.
On my netbook it runs and just stops at daemon started successfully, the tablet has no response and debugfs just stays on that screen till I close it down.
Both my computers have all the correct drivers and the latest version of debugfs running, both are windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Please help me as my Infinity is just sitting around doing nothing as when I downgraded to ICS all 190 apps I installed were wiped too, and obviously there's no point me reinstalling any apps till I get this bad boy rooted...
Many thanks in advance!
Make sure you're connecting to a USB 2.0 port, not 3.0, on your computer.
Try not to use any intervening USB hub.
Try to make sure that you're using the back ports on a desktop machine as sometimes the front ports and be a bit sketchy.
Reboot both tablet and computer before starting, and as always, make sure the tablet has USB debugging enabled.
only my netbook has usb 3.0 and I used the 2.0 port, I will now try the back ports of my desktop, I didn't use any extensions or usb hubs, I have debugging and unknown sources checked. I have tried the restarting already, which I'll do right now again... thanks though..
Code:
@adb kill-server
@adb wait-for-device
@adb shell mount | find " /system" | call RootDebugfs.bat x
That is where you're system is tripping up. For some odd reason when it runs that part of the script, it trips up.
It's not a device not found error, b/c it would 1) say that, and 2) never make it to that last line, just hang at the previous line. Yet when I connect my Infinity it works perfectly fine on mine. For some reason the command "find /system" is not working correctly on your system after performing the shell mount command.
Do you have the Android SDK installed on your system?
Android SDK and Java DK were not installed, just installed them still exactly the same issue, haven't rebooted since installing them though
Is there a way I could use Linux to root, as I do have Linux Mint running?

I dunno why it is not working then. What you're doing is exactly what I did *successfully* to root my Infinity and then take the JB upgrade ans restore root.
I have another file called Infnity Root that you can try: check your PMs for the link

Thanks so much anyway! I've already tried that file, it's exactly the same
Yeah, it looked very similar, but it included more things in the actual Download like the drivers.
Not sure why it is not working - can you run those three commands in a command prompt window and see what you get?
well they say 3's a magic number, computer number 3 worked! For some reason something on my desktop and netbook was causing the root to fail, now I'm updating to jb ota... Thanks for the quick responses otherwise I would have assumed the problem was with the tablet and not my machines...
Glad you got it working. Quite possibly an antivirus program, firewall, or other such problem.

Guide to fix TWRP or CWM bootloop

This is how i fix my TF300TG stuck on recovery. I hope the steps descried below will help.
Long story, short:
For some reasons, seems like the WIPE command from TWRP and CWM recovery screw the partitions.
No partitions or microSD card can be mounted.
The tablet is now booting only in recovery mode or in fastboot mode (the screen with three icons - RTK, Android and WIPE) instead of Android.
IMPORTANT:
If your tablet reboot in fastboot mode DONT WIPE IT AGAIN! Just skip step 4.
First of all, MAKE SURE YOR BATTERY IS CHARGED!
Recharge your tablet for at least two hours.During the flashing process the tablet doesn`t charge.
Use the original Asus USB cable that came with the tablet or a high quality replacement cable. Cheap cables can and will cause problems.
Use a laptop or desktop with known good USB ports. If you have problems, try a diferent computer, some USB chips can cause troubles.
Disable the antivirus or screensaver, sleep etc...
1.Download these files:
from ASUS website: http://www.asus.com/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300TG/#support
Drivers&Tools, on the OS tab select Android
click on Utilities and download latest version of ASUS PC Sync (you will need this for drivers)
click on Firmware and download the lastest available (you will need this for BLOB file)
Minimal ADB and Fastboot: http://d-h.st/gbx
install ASUS PC Sync and Minimal ADB and Fastboot (on fastboot installer check the box that make a shortcut to desktop)
unzip the firmware file downloaded from ASUS site
you will get a second zip file, unzip this one too
the folder unzipped from the second one contain a file called blob
copy or move the folder to the root of your drive C: or D: or whatever drive letter you have
2.Installing drivers:
connect your tablet to PC
you will get a message about Windows couldnt find driver bla...bla, ignore it and keep your tablet plugged
IMPORTANT: even if you previously installed ASUS PC Sync or other drivers and Windows recognize your tablet, you still need to change the driver.
right-click on My Computer-Properties and click Device Manager
find the Asus Android device - should be with an exclamation mark on it (the driver is not installed sign)
right-click on it and choose:
Update Driver Software..., Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, Have disk, Browse
go to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86), ASUS, ASUS Android USB Drivers, Android and select android_winusb.inf
Asus Android Composite ADB interface will appear in the list of device drivers - don`t hit next yet!
uncheck Show Compatible Hardware and select Asus Android Bootloader Interface from the list, now hit next
3.ADB mode:
open Minimal ADB and Fastboot from desktop - from this point, keep it open
type: adb devices - and you should see some numbers under the List of device attached - thats your tablet
if you can`t see the tablet, try this command: adb start-server
4.Booting to "fastboot":
there are two ways to do this:
a) from adb window type: adb reboot bootloader
or
b) reset and hold vol-down (didn`t work for me, but maybe will work for someone else)
the three icons will appear on screen - NOW YOU ARE IN FASTBOOT MODE
if none of the above work try this:
in adb window type: adb reboot
wait until the tablet enter in recovery menu and type in adb window:
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
adb reboot bootloader
5. Flasing the blob
the credits for this part goes to buster99. He is the one who figured out the right commands for formatting partitions and flashing back the OS
here is his post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12
here we go, one at the time in adb window:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system x:\your blob folder\blob (here you enter the path to your blob file, must end with blob, to point at the file)
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
THE FLASH SYSTEM COMMAND WILL TAKE SOME TIME
be pacient and wait until the progress bar is 100% full on the tablet and you get the command prompt back in the adb window.
After reboot, the Android is back on.
Cheers and good luck!!
A big thank you alexhosu,
several months ago that my tablet was blocked, but I still kept hope
a solution would be found. I'm really happy for you and thank you again for sharing.
Long live XDA
me too
Thanks from me too; was enjoying 5.0 (timduru) on my TF300 when I went to upgrade and idiotically managed to get into a TWRP bootloop(interrupted a format of \data and then used 'wipe' from the boot screen by mistake...)
Your solution has saved my tablet
Am now carefully reinstalling Katkiss
Thanks
This saved my (veggie) bacon too, something went wrong when flashing new ROM (most likely user error - e.g. my fault). Tablet woud go into an eternal boot wouldn't finish booting, nandroid recovery did the same. Used this technique and have a working stock ROM from which I intend to reinstall TimDuru's Lollipop.
Thanks again
Followed the instructions.. Worked well, but getting error 963 when installing/updating anything in Play Store. Seems to be related to storage permissions. Some users are suggesting using format instead of erase. What's the difference? Could that help.
I did factory reset, reflashed and used fix permissions in TWRP but no luck...

Big thanks from me.
I killed my tablet with an accidental restore to factory defaults while in cm12, an got stuck in an endless bootloader boot loop.
my tablet came back too life at the end of section 4 after adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3.
although getting adb to talk to the tablet was a fluke.
I just kept trying to send "adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3" while the tablet was loading (boot looping)
6 months of believing my tablet was dead, after letting CM12 do its own update thing, and now, thanks to the above instructions, I'm back online and its working with the stock rom.
Thank you so much for this. No idea why I couldn't find these instructions before, then I just gave up, back in business now!
Thanks a lot for your guide, this is what helped me fortunately unbrick my device, i was stuck in a boot loop with a broken recovery
Another tablet saved. Know your work is appreciated.
i have the same problem, the system doesn't pass the ASUS logo, i tired to log into fastboot (reset + volume down) and i was able to see the three icons but adb doesn't recognize my device. i see the drivers are correctly installed but no working adb. Any help is highly appreciated.

Did you try entering "fastboot devices" or just "adb devices"? adb wont find your device in the bootloader, but using fastboot commands should unless it truly is not connecting for some reason.

yeah Fastboot devices worked but it was not letting me flashing the rom, when i push the blob file it says 'sending' and stays in the same state for days.

I would try moving the blob to the root of the C drive and try the 7th command "fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system C:\blob" just to make sure sometime of file permission type issue isn't happening on the pc side. Other than that the only kind of issue I think it could be would have to be the connection with the drivers, although if erasing the partition's works fine, I don't really see what could be going on.
I followed all the steps and delete, but when loading the file update.blob I get this error:
C: \ Users \ mikel> C: \ Users \ mikel \ Android \ android-sdk \ platform-tools \ fastboot flash system update.blob
error: can not load 'update.blob'
Can someone help me out?

Hey, I know that I'm a couple years late on this. But, I was just given a Asus Transformer TF300T, and attempted to install the Kisskat custom rom. I unlocked the device with little issues. Rooted with little issues. But when it came to flashing the rom. I get his error saying that "no MD5 file found" and holds it there for a couple of minutes. Then gives me the failed install. My only option is to boot into recovery and restore the stock JB 4.2. If you could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. I've searched the forum for someone with a similar issue, and couldn't find it. I hope that I'm not alone on this one. It would kill me to be stuck with the stock rom.
Hi i made a format data from TWRP recovery, and now i am in a recovery loop and got error of mount partitions, i can access to recovery and the screen with 3 icons, but when i plug to my pc it shows as uknown usb, i install the drivers but dosent reconose as a fastboot device, in minimal adb when i write fastboot devices the result is empty pleace help me.
Muito obrigado!
I know this must seem odd, being such an old thread and all but, after several years adding apps and changing ROMs on my wife's TF300T (my gift!) only these past weeks I had the need to search for help, after installing nougatella 7.1, which I did with success, only to stumble on endless logo loops and loading processes without conclusion. Don't get me wrong, the ROM looks great and it wasn't that hard to install but, after two weeks or so, gave me this problem and after correcting it and installing again the ROM, I got in trouble again...
After some five hours googling and trying different stuff, I finally found this thread and twenty minutes ago (around 2:AM) my ASUS returned to its (Jellybean) life!
Alexhosu, thank you so very much for such a detailed, yet easy to follow guide and, if you happen to come to Portugal on vacation and visit Setúbal, I'll have a bottle of Moscatel waiting for you!
Many thanks to Droidbound (who got me off the hook the first time the tablet went nuts!), and also Kevinthefixer, Gtanner00 and some other very inteligent, patient and thoughtful people, and all the guys who shared their difficulties and in a way helped me find the people with the fix.
For anyone interested in trying this method, I would say that it's paramount that you should stick exactly with what is asked and should pay real atention to what is the correct ROM update to download and use. If anyone needs help with translation to Portuguese, just say so.
Again, thank you so much for this!

Thanks for your help :good: and I'm sorry for my basic English, but here is another tablet saved. Your instructions were clear and my tablet is working.
I hope this information helps, based in the next link (user sszyman): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275035&page=9
in which he recommends using the following commands too:
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
With these commands and "adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3" I was able to solve my Bootloop problem.
Honestly I don't know which of the commands worked, I used all several times.

[Q] Black Screen Brick / Android Logo - Different than the others

A pretty girl here in Zambia found out I know a bit about technology and brought me her Tab 2 GT3100.
Upon Power or USB insertion it boots to the 2nd Android Screen, and that's where it sits over and over again.
Upon trying to enter Recovery Mode - I get the fallen android with the stomach open.
Upon trying to enter Download mode, well, I can't.
I've managed to get an adb connection off and on upon bootup and can even get a logcat.
I cannot enter download mode via adb reboot download.
I can get access to the root filesystem via adb shell - and just for fun, I deleted contents of /dalvik-cache /cache and many 3rd party apps in /data
Still, the unit doesn't want to boot.
Any idea on this one? Is there a way that it can be reflashed via an SD Card? Can I push an image via ADB? ADB shell?
If I can get this to work, my days might just become brighter.
