I think this is a good place to start -- hxxp://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
(change hxxp to http for the link to work)
I am looking to build my own kernel for my AT&T Skyrocket (2.6.35.11 - I727UCLA3). I want to find the default kernel code, try to build the default code and install it before I make modifications to it.
I found these files on the samsung opensource site:
https://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=SGH-I727
There is:
SGH-I727_NA_Opensource_Update1.zip
SGH-I727_ATT_Opensource.zip
SGH-I727R_Opensource.zip
I think that I want SGH-I727_ATT_Opensource.zip. Two questions though. What is Update1 and do I need that? Also, I expected there to be multiple files for each kernel release of the Skyrocket, however there is only 1. Is this the most recent 2.6.35.11 I727UCLA3 kernel?
One last thing. Are there any good mirrors for these files? The Samsung Open Source site is painfully slow and my downloads stop very quickly after starting.
Thanks a bunch.
I have a galaxy tab 2 10.1. I want to get a vpn client (F5) running, but I need the tunnel module. I rooted the tablet, and have tun.ko installer on it, but there's no tunnel module available. So i thought I'd compile my own since I use linux on my pc, but I'm having trouble finding the source for the kernel. tun.ko installer says my system is:
model: gt-p5113
build number: IML74K.P5113UEALD7
Android version: 4.0.3
Kernel version: 3.0.8-396106-user
Does anyone know where I can find the source for the kernel? I tried http://android.git.kernel.org, but I didn't see it.
Thanks.
You could personal message cheatman about it (see this thread).
thanks. cheatman provided me this info:
Code:
The samsung code for the P5113 can be found here: http://opensource.samsung.com/
I can't give you a direct link because of the site JS codes, but do a search for "p5113" and it should turn out a single result.
i got the source code and the ARM cross compiler, but according the directions i found, the next step is i need to get the config.gz file off the tablet, but that file doesn't exist. anyone know what i could do about that? thanks again.
still can't find the tunnel module or config.gz, anyone have any ideas on how i can get this working? thanks
tun.ko for gt-p5100

Click to collapse
i downloaded the source code, but there's no config.gz file, so i couldn't compile the tun.ko module
Hey guys,
After two weeks of research and trying myself, I have decided I need someone to help this linux noobie out.
What I am looking for is to change 1 value which is in 1 file in the kernel source.
I've found which file it is. The problem is that with all the tutorials I've read and kernels I tried to compile,
they don't seem to be working with the source code I need to compile.
Details:
Source code I need to compile is for Samsung Tablet 2 10.1 - GT-P5110
Source code can be found @ samsung's open source site (can't post link here ) ... search for "GT-P5110_ICS_Opensource.zip"
Value I need to change is in the company layer of kernel.
I have been able to compile this kernel and get a zImage and some modules.
But I fear this isn't enough, I think I need a system.img?!
In any case, is there anyone who can help me out?
Do I need something else, patch/boot.img? Maybe I'm overlooking another easy solution?
I'll give you $30 on your Paypal account, same day!!
***Please note that $30 is only for the first working solution/person who can help, not for every solution ***
Hello,
I recently downloaded the official AOSP source code into my machine and I want to compile it for my GT-I9300,
but before that where do I get the device blobs and properitary drivers from? Can I use CM's device tree? Are there any other device trees?
And in an addition to that how do I get the Kernel to work properly? Do I need to use the CM kernel?
A hint / tip or a link to a guide would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
I can suggest you to go to xda university
I'm sure that you will find all you need for cooking your own build
Good luck
