Hello,
I'm looking for feedback and tips.
We define spam calls, as any calls from phone numbers that meet these 2 criteria:
Not on your contacts list
Did not leave you a cash deposit
If an unknown callers leave you a deposit before calling you, your phone rings. If you answer the call and the call time lasts more than 25 seconds, the caller receives a full and immediate refund. This is a "good call".
However, if you answer and hang up before 25 seconds, you keep 80% of the deposit while our app keeps 20%. Callers only lose money when you answer and hang up before 25 seconds.
This way, only callers who are willing to risk $0.05 to speak with you are allowed to call you and good callers get that $0.05 back. This is our unique approach to solving the spam problem.
For Play store, please search: "RoboCash spam" and search for the black circle with the green R.
For our website: please visit our site at "myrobocash dot com".
Currently, only US, Canada, Philippines, Brazil and UK can sign up. If you're interested in using this and not from any of these countries, please let me know so I can try opening up the app to work for you. Thank you.
Finally got a workaround to READ_CALL_LOG by implementing CallScreeningService and RoleManager to read the phone number.
Since RoleManager was introduced in Android 10, it will work for all Android versions 10+. Sadly, I will not be able to service Android 9 users.... Thankfully Android 7-8.1 are still able to use this.

Try as hard as I can to protect my phone nr. and e-mail address a marketing company got my phone number. I got a few spam texts from 77893. Verizon helped me put a block on the text. I have not received any in three days.
At the same time I started getting phone calls. A few had numbers, others were identified as (unknown) unavailable. With all the calls, about six a day there is never anyone there when I answer the phone.
Has anyone tried to block any callers on this phone or know of any feature to help block a number?
I was thinking of making a contact named (unknown) and applying a silent ring. But I think when a caller is matched up to a contact it is with a number, not a name. I have no number they are blocking it. Verizon has been very hands off on this problem and it is driving me crazy. Anyone have any suggestions?

This may help as it helped me. It isnt software or a tweak. Go to the National Do Not Call Registry website. It blocks your number from being called by telemarketers permanently if I am not mistaken. I got the same problem on my phone and after I registered my phone & my wifes, I didnt get calls anymore. Its a government program and is free. Here is a quote from their website....
"The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free."
Its not an instant solution as it does take up to 31 days but the good thing is that if they continue after the 31 day mark you can file a complaint on them. Go here. Hope this helps.
PRBajista 9:
PS. This will have no effect on telemarketing calls from companies that you do business with because they have the right to call you unless you specifically tell them not to call you (ie. your cable company, your credit card company, ect.)
Give Magicall a try. I've been using it for years. It even has the ability to pick up a call and instantly drop it (the caller only hears a click and they are disconnected) It even filters SMS.

Thanks for the reply with Magicall. I am on the Federal Do not Call list. If someone still calls you can report them, but it clearly says on the FTC website that no one will research it
Verizon will block the unknown/unavailable callers for $5.00 per month! Surprise, surprise they figured out how to make money off the problem.
I will get Magicall.
I use vz and block numbers from time to time on the very slow vz website.. if you go under your account then over to the spam control section you can block 5 numbers but they only are for a limited time they usually have given up by then but you can just re-list it
I sent in the $1.90 donation via sms, I think, or I sent an sms and expect to be charged $1.90 plus 9 cents tax) and I can not yet use the app to answer calls on shake.
Please advise how long it takes to acknowledge the receipt of the $1.90 "donation", which apparently is necessary to be paid in order to use the shake to answer function for this otherwise free android app.
I sent an email to atrant dot sg at gmaill explaining the issue. with my phone's iemi number and phone number.
Frustrated I am,
Bob

Is is truly unbelievable to me that in this day and age such an essential phone function could have been overlooked! I have been searching for days and days and found NOTHING or got stupid responses such as "use Google" (Online only, uses Data and for US Citizens only) or "use voicemail" (expensive cellular provider subscription add-on)... I mean, come on! When even the cheapest home phones can be gotten with built in answering machines, how come this essential feature is nowhere to be seen on android phones?
What's the deal, what's the technical hangup, what's the problem? Can anyone explain the REASON why there are NO call answering machine-like apps of any kind out there?

Im looking for the same thing and can't find it too!
Here is my need. I have a business phone number and my personal cell phone number. All my customers should call me to my business number which I can set to auto-forward to my cell only at the time I want to. But some of my customers know my cell phone number and they keep having this bad habit of calling me on it instead of my business phone number.
I'm looking for a app that will be tracking in the background the caller id number of incoming calls, if the number is a on list of unwanted that I have set, it will auto-answer, play an audio file recorded by me (like: "Please dial 111-222-3333 to reach me, thanks you") and then hang-up.
I don't feel alone with the need of a solution like this. And there are apps that can auto-answer call according to the caller id and there are apps that can play audio in a call, I don't see why it could not be technically possible to combine both.
wow
can't belive it, i was looking for the same and found several threads like this one, that's sad
let's hope sth comes up
Yeah, I used to have this function on my old fliphone from way back in 2002! Also, on my Windows Mobile phones after that...
Exactly. My nokia flip from ages ago (ran symbian OS) has an app on it called "Advanced Answering Machine" or "Advanced Call Manager" or something similar.
I could set it up so that it would direct calls to different greetings depending on the caller ID. An example of this is, I wont accept calls from "unknown" or "blocked" etc numbers. ACM/AAM would handle this perfectly. It would answer the phone, play the Telstra (thats a telco in australia) message "the number you have called is not available from this service." twice, then hang up. Later on I found out I was missing some important calls (the message confused some people such as the landlord who had a blocked number) so I changed it to "I do not accept calls from blocked numbers. To unblock your number, dial 1831 in front of your number. It wont cost you any more". This fixed the problem.
It was also programmed to answer calls after 30 seconds of ringing and play a standard greeting then take a message.
It was a very versatile program. I could (for example) divert certain calls to a party line if I didnt want calls from that particular number; however I didnt, as the diverted leg would cost me a fortune.
Its a shame on these advanced handsets today that such a simple, commonly available on landline phones, feature is not available. I can control televisions, fly remote controlled toys and vapourize components with a big bank of capacitors over bluetooth using my phone, yet it cant perform a simple answering machine function.
From what I hear the API that handles these functions is not directly accessable to developers; probably because "malware" could hook in and dial high priced premium calls and rack up huge bills all the while the phone owner not knowing until the monthly account comes in.
I did see one answerphone somewhere but it utilised the speaker so if it took a call (for example while your at the pub) the caller would not hear your greeting, or on the train everyone around you would hear your greeting and then the callers message, so not very practical. It would NOT work properly while the phone was on mute.
xperia phones come with buit-in answering machine feature. or use jail broken iphone and u have half a dozen apps which can do it.
unfortunately in android noway.. even if u r rooted.. no way
This may be totally irrelevant to the thread, not sure where else to put it.
It started on 3/11/14, I got a phone call from an 813-408-???? number. A boston sounding man pretending to be from a local pizza joint, saying I ordered 3 pizzas and my card I gave was declined and needed a new card. I figured it was a scam to take my info because I (and no one in my household) had ever ordered from this place). The man sounded scripted, pre-recorded or perhaps a mobile app just messing with me. Anytime I spoke, his speaking stopped and it/he wouldn't answer me when I spoke. I hung up, after a few minutes, I called back. I didn't get an answer both times I called back, just a man's voicemail for his home business.
Later, I got a call from another 813-408-???? number, but different from the first. It was a man claiming I was messaging his girlfriend on Facebook. His responses also sounded scripted or like recordings from an app. I assumed it was another prank, so I said little and hungup. I immediately called the number back and the man sounded confused and swore he didn't call me.
I thought these calls were weird because my number is also an 813-408-????.
Later in the same day, I was playing xbox with a friend of mine. My phone rang from his number, but he swore he wasn't calling me. Just after that, his phone rang from my number, but my phone wasn't calling him.
The next day, 03/12/14, I got a call from the same friend. The phone showed his name and correct number (i have it memorized). I answered and it was a female voice, claiming I was talking to her boyfriend on Facebook. Her voice ALSO seeming scripted or recorded. My buddy wasn't even near his phone, he was playing softball and swore he wasn't doing anything.
Not sure what I need to do to get this to stop. Don't know if changing my number will help or not and would prefer not to do that.
If it matters: I am running Cyanogenmod 11, up-to-date nightly's. I've been on Cyanogenmod as long as it's been available for the Nexus 5. It's a black 16GB US model and i'm on AT&T. I've never had anything like this happen before.
Faster version: I got a weird call from an unknown number from a recording or app. A second weird call from a different number comes in, same weird recording conversation and scripting. Illegitimate calls to and from my phone occur. Illegitimate call from a friend's phone that he didn't send. I have no problem sending or receiving calls or texts, nothing else seems to be off. I'm on CM11 3/12/14 nightly.
Any ideas?
Do you have a common friend between you and your other friends? Somebody is messing with you. And must be close enough to know y'all numbers. It's very easy to spoof a number to make it seem like somebody else is calling.
Also take note that many area codes like 419 817 737 ect....will get all your info within 3 secs if its a hacker lol. There's a huge list online just Google it. Hope that helps out. If not then get Mr. Number. You can block all numbers and voicemails texts.....except your contacts list

I'm betting someone is playing a real crappy prank on you. A friend of mine showed me this app one time that would allow you to enter any "from" number of your choosing with a pre-recorded prank attached. Basically the app would prank call whoever you chose with the fake or made up number showing up in the caller ID. When the call comes in, it sounds super convincing, down to the voice of the guy who's threatening to kick your butt for messing with his girlfriend. What you don't know, is that app is also recording your voice responses so whoever is pranking you gets to hear a recording of the entire call, similar to a phone prank done by a radio station. I would just listen for the familiar details and just hang up when you realize its the prankster. They'll give up eventually and if they know you will probably come clean at some point.
It's not a prank. It's scammy phishing robo-calls. I get them infrequently. Typically the "you have won a free cruise" baloney. However the pizza call is another known angle. For me it's usually one of 3 numbers. A 1 877 number, a random US number and a number that is almost identical to my own phone number.
Just get a blocking app or don't answer the call if you don't recognise the number. If it is a valid call, the caller will leave you a voicemail detailing why they were legitimately calling you in the first place. The robocall will just disconnect once it hits your voicemail.
Sorry, I should update that the above was in regards to the pizza call. The Facebook call is a prank - just search "Don't Message My Girlfriend".
I'm in the UK but when I Skype my wife in LA its a local LA number. Freaked her first time. You got no idea where calls come from these days. I use a call block. Robot call centers after ambulance chasing buisness etc are big here. Not your phone, or rom and don't let it rent space in your head. Block n move on

If it's anything like the uk if you read the small print of your contact (especially if it's like a retail shop - carphone warehouse, phones4u etc over here) it actually says we will give your number out to these annoying marketing company's and there's nothing you can do about it if you want the contract!! (which is why their contacts are normally better than direct from the provider)

Well, I can tell the calls I received were all similar sounding in their responses, so I did hang up. I figured it was a prank app or something along those lines. I just ended up hanging up the call. I can block the numbers I have gotten, I'm just getting a lot of them.
I guess I just have to rely on a voicemail from a legitimate caller.
Thanks for all the insight.
So if you live in a country in which it's not supported you don't have the option.
But I would like it, english will do Just fine as I talk English anyway when I pick up the phone.
Is it correct that the option availability is based on the sim origin (country)? If thats the case chances are slim to find a way around it.
Tried most things, like usa vpn, clear cache & data phone app, uninstalled phone update, updated. Nothing changes.
I'd be guessing no as Google say it depends on SIM.

I just did some research on this subject, there are two options:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.realnetworks.kontxt.voice
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.yukhlin.answeringmachine&hl=en_US&gl=US
#2 unfortunately requires some additional hardware and #1 will most likely have a terrible privacy policy
no root - cube acr
root - there are a lot of options in the forum
Thank you all for help, yes Root opens doors, but I live so remote that if I brick it I have big problem (would be without a phone for 6 weeks).
Cube acr I could try but feature not interesting enough for me to let other alien application handle it. Maybe interesting for other people.
I'm kinda annoyed with google treating us different, they just could release it everywhere but just limited to english or whatever. Same with call recording, it's legal in some countries like Netherlands but they find it more easy just to cancel it for whole europe? Why just not release it everywhere, if it is illegal to use (like crossing a red light) just don't do/use it. It's also illegal to scam people with phone, prank call cops etc etc... but yet possible to do with a phone. Which bright mind made it illegal anyway? Ridiculous, so many times companies told me lies on the phone to sell their products. And we can't prove it, on the other side they are allowed to record the call, which I understand with a contract being discussed. It should be a fair playground with each party being able to record.
The only reason I can understand why it is illegal is that this is politicians greatest fear, being recorded and that their crooked way of working is on tape and useable in court.
call recording is available without root, https://callrecorder.skvalex.com is a great solution I use it on grapheneos no root.
Does A13 still allow call recording thru Cube ACR? If not is there a way to switch dialers without root?
If you are a root user you can install GoogleDialerMod, just search it on Github. I activated call screening and call recording in Ecuador, that app is amazing.
