Didn't T-Mobile just announce they were ending network support for non-VoLTE calls within the next 12 months?
I think they are effectively only supporting VoLTE calls going forward, thus no option to turn it off.
It's possible the removal of that option is a customization unique to the T-mo branded firmware though.

ok thanks. yup t-mobile did announce that so that's why i asked. was a little worried that i didn't see a volte option in settings knowing t-mobile was only going to support that next year. but you do make sense that it doesn't really need to be an option anymore. thanks for the input.

[Q] Enabling VoLTE

I have a Droid Maxx on Verizon running the latest ota update (23.3.24), rooted, with TWRP installed. I enabled HD Calling (VoLTE) through Verizon's website, but cannot find an option in my phone's settings to enable it as was suggested in some comments I read on other sites. Am I missing something?
It should look like this, under Mobile Network Settings:
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Free mobile app
I believe that you have to restart the phone after activating the feature on your line.
Yeah once I activated the feature on Verizon wireless I had to turn the phone off for a few mins then back on and it was there,,,a simple reboot doesnt work.

Which software version do you have? There is no root available for Maxx, Ultra, or Mini phones on 4.4.4.

I was on an older software version and used a utility called Sunshine which was created by some of the devs who post in this forum. I just checked their website and it indicates that support for bootloader unlock for Verizon users on 4.4.4 will come in the next update to their utility. There's a $25 fee, but after your bootloader is unlocked, it will likely remain that way through future ota updates. After your bootloader is unlocked, you can install an alternate recovery like TWRP which will auto detect whether you have root upon exiting the recovery and ask if you want to install it or not.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I followed your suggestions, but still don't have an option to enable VoLTE on the device itself.
I left my phone off for 20+ minutes (several times) but the option to enable VoLTE (HD voice) was still not present under mobile network settings after powering on. I also performed a factory reset (no luck), wiped everything in TWRP and reinstalled the 23.3.24 fxz file using RSD Lite (no luck), and disabled and re-enabled HD voice through the Verizon website (still no luck).
Does anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions? I'm at a loss.
I have what may be a dumb question. I have a rooted, unlocked droid maxx on 4.4.4. I would like to get the latest update so that I can enable advanced calling on my phone. Can I download the update somewhere? My phone is set to not download updates automatically. Thanks.
For those who have been using Volte consistently since the update what has been your user experience? I was part of the soak and used it for only a week before disabling it. I found that in areas with weak 4g coverage the call would break up or I would loose the call all together.
My speaker has a crackling sound to it since enabling volte but other than that I haven't had much time with it in rough service areas to tell but I just got back to North Dakota for work so I'll get a crash course in that soon haha

I had the same issue. I found that it was a common occurrence in a weak 4g area. When it was really bad I would cut in and out before finally dropping the call. When I was in a strong 4g area the call was crystal clear.

Same here. With VoLTE on I started getting call drops in places I had never had them before. I have it disabled now.

Seeking advice on updating from 21.11.21. I am unrooted & have OTA disabled with my workaround. So no downside? Just enable or disable voLTE as needed?
Thanks

There may be other reasons to stick with 21.11.21 but concerns over VoLTE shouldn't be one. Even before you can use VoLTE with the phone you have to get Verizon to enable it on your account either by calling them or your account page on their website. At least I did when it came out and I assume that's still the case. Once it's enabled on your account the option to turn it on/off in the phone should show up in the settings. So if that's the only thing holding you back then I'd say go for it.

What other downsides?
I am hearing about bugs & of course unlock patch that would stop Sunshine if a root method is ever found.

I haven't encountered or heard of any bugs with 23.3.24, really. There's a thread in the other forum about lost features, but other than that and VoLTE I haven't noticed any differences from 21.11.21.
I guess there's always a risk of an root exploit being found and released for an older version after upgrading, but I'm not sure how likely that is to happen at this point. I don't think there's been a whiff of one on 21.11.21 or later. If one does come out it might end up working on 23.3.24 anyway since they are both 4.4.4 based.
With all the changes coming with Lollipop you might have better luck eventually getting an exploit for that version.
So I guess if you are perfectly content with 21.11.21 and aren't interested in VoLTE then there probably isn't much of a reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you do upgrade I speculate that it won't impact your ability to get root/unlocked bootloader down the road if one happens to fall out of the sky. But that's just my opinion.

WiFi calling enabled?

Anyone know if the US or international models have WiFi enabled calling? I am ready to switch from Sammy to Weiwei if it does. :silly:
No support that I can see on the international version (used in UK). VoLTE is there for Three here though (not EE).
No wi-fi calling, Wi-Fi calling is carrier specific and you're not going to find that on any unlocked phone

He asked about Wi-Fi calling on the mate 9, not band 12 or VoLTE which is what the link you posted is referring to, not even close to the same thing. The mate 9 does not support W-Fi calling, no way around it. Probably never going to have it unless they implement T-mobiles IMS settings. There are a few unlocked phones that support it, but really all that means is that they cooked t-mobiles settings into their rom, and if you read there are not really all that many that are actually certified by t-mobile mobile to actually work properly.

Yes the Mate 9 is not supported, but there are many "unlocked" phones that T-Mobile doesn't sell on that list that support WiFi calling on the network (i.e. Axon 7, Pixel, Nexus, LeEco S3, OnePlus, etc.). That was the point of my response......
ok, on my phone (MHA-L29/B197 EU version) i was able to set a link for W-Lan calling with Create Shortcut app! Search for "wi-fi calling" in app area "observe activities ->dangerous"!!

Wifi calling UK?

Does anybody know if the OP6 will support Wifi calling? More specifically in the UK?
I think someone once mentioned to me that the OP5 had Wifi calling on Three UK?
I would also like to know this answer.
I'm with three UK, and had WiFi calling on my Note8.
Unfortunately nothing has come-up on the OP6.
Will keep you updated.
WiFi calling on O2UK
You see WiFi calling as an option on OP6?

Is the option there? User above has shown Wifi calling option is certainly there and works with O2.
I have Wifi calling on my Honor View 10 and that works with Three.
As OP6 doesn't appear to need special firmware to have Wifi calling, unlike say a Samsung S9+ - I would assume it's there?

Odd. I would have thought the option was available to everyone - as the OP6 isn't carrier specific and doesn't have special firmware.
its up to your mobile operator which devices to support

Not the point we're trying to make. The option for Wifi Calling in menu will be there regardless of whether the operator supports it. Some phones need a firmware from the operator to see it. But shouldn't be the case with the OP6 as there are no other firmwares, it's independent.
Nokia 3/5 - has Wifi calling option (as does iPhone) whether operator supports it or not.

That's worrying, I rely on WiFi calling in my flat right now since I get no signal at all (very thick concrete walls).
WiFi calling works flawlessly on Three on my iPhone, so if it turns out Three doesn't support it on the OP6, I might have to switch to O2/EE, both of whom have WiFi calling that works with OnePlus.
I actually went on live chat with Three a few days ago to complain about the lack of signal and WiFi calling not working on some Android devices - they first said to just use the Three inTouch app, to which I said it is garbage and barely works half the time. Eventually they caved in and gave me a £3 discount on my monthly bill. When I didn't accept that, they gave me £4... and then £5. Eventually they sent me over to the complaints team who gave me credit on my account equivalent to 2 months worth of bills and said I can cancel the contract free of any charges whenever I want.
Point is, if WiFi calling doesn't work on the OP6, go and complain to live chat, you'll get a discount on your contract or even better... and do not accept the initial offer they give you.

Wi-Fi Calling

New to this forum. Just got my Motorola One Hyper today. Am I able to make wi-fi calls on this phone? When I go to my Settings, Wi-Fi Calling is grayed out. If I long press it, Wi-Fi Calling comes up, but again, the screen is grayed out. It will not allow me to enable it. I am connected to my home wi-fi network, so that is not the problem. Thanks in advance.
It depends on your carrier, call customer service and ask if they use wifi calling. It works for me on T-Mobile on both stock and omni out of the box.
Beyond that, make sure you are updated to the latest stock firmware. The last update fixed volte and vowifi.

Thanks for the response. After the phone went through all of its updating, the wi-fi issue solved itself. But I have another question. This phone was labeled as "International version" when I purchased it. I discovered that it's actually (RETLA), thus the instructions only came in Spanish. Will this be an issue using it in the USA?
Thanks

Go to the link below, it compares the bands different models of our phone operate on. If more bands are compatible with your network, your network reception will improve.

Wifi Calling in pixel 3xl

Hi,
I have pixel 3XL and i want to enable Wifi calling.
I have searched in my phone setting ( system settings>network and internet>mobile network), as well as in the phone app, and this option does not appear to me.
My carrier has this feature and i want to use this feature, but i don`t have this option.
I also looked in the secret menu(*#*#46...) of phone info and i see the VoLTE provisioned and wifi calling provisioned are on grey.
Can anyone help me how to enable this feature ?
There appears to be known issues with Pixel phones not able to use WiFi calling with AT&T out it's MVNOs.
For example red pocket AT&T service and cricket wireless both don't seem to allow WiFi calling unless you do some tricks like updating IMEI in their records.
Hope to hear from other members since I'm experiencing same issue.

I have spoken with the carrier.
They support only Samsung and Iphone, but he said he enabled this option for me, but he said he does not believe it will work.
Does anyone have an idea if there is an option to enable it via the phone with some kind of bypass ?
