I'm not sure if this is possible, but I thought you guys were the best people to ask!
I've got a projector screen with an IR receiver, but no remote with it. I was wondering if there was a way to use the IR blaster on my phone to fast cycle through IR commands/frequencies and see if I can control my screen.
I've tried numerous IR apps, and they all rely on you selecting the correct make/model of your device (none of them have projector screens) or to copy the original remote (which I don't have).
Is there anything I can do using my Android phone? :fingers-crossed:

Hi xda-developers,
I have a serious problem with accessing the usb-port with my unrooted htc desire.
I just want to connect a switch/circuit breaker to my cellphone via usb. And than I want to be able to react on the event if somebody pressed the switch. It's only this little event that I wan't to react on.
I searched the web and found two ways to achieve my goal:
1.) Get a Bluetooth device and interact with that.
2.) Root the Desire and make/solder a usb-to-serial cable
But seriously? A Bluetooth device just to recognize if somebody pressed a hardware button? And I want to share this project so if possible I would relinquish the need of a rooted device.
So now, after hours of web-searching and reading references, I ask you, the awesome xda-developers-community: Is there any easy way to access the usb-port from within my Android-App or the Android-Scripting-Engine?
Every hint is appreciated.
.:LordAlien:.
No one an idea? Or just a little hint where I could read furthermore related to access the usb-port?
It seems like you would need a bit more than root and a USB-to-Serial cable.
Maybe if you only need one hardware switch you could use the mic button input, or play a sound to the mic input? Or use a magnet and the magnetic sensors (electromagnet, or even a neodym magnet glued to your hardware button).
Thanks for your replay.
I already read about the usb-host-capabilites, but I thought if I only want to detect on little signal I would not need the whole usb-host stuff.
Thanks for the Idea with the magnetic thing, but if I really need another device to realize my switch I will stay with bluetooth.
/edit: I thought off buying a littel&cheap bluetooth mouse and interact on the click. Would it be possible? Can I actually connect a bluetooth mouse to my android mobile phone?
I don't think a Bluetooth mouse would work, at least not out of the box. Most Android devices don't fully support the Bluetooth HID or SPP profiles. It's missing software, not hardware. But I saw that the Dell Streak apparently supports keyboards and mice.
BlueInput only supports keyboards, it seems. It doesn't need root. So apparently it should be possible to do the same for mice, but I didn't find anybody doing it yet. But maybe you can ask the BlueInput people whether mice would also work, just without a visible pointer (because Android doesn't have a visible mouse pointer). That wouldn't matter to you, but it would be useless for normal mouse users, so perhaps they just don't advertize that BlueInput can talk to mice, too.
Or maybe you can find a cheap headset which is supported by Android. The answer button should work.
Oh look, with root it works apparently.
Yeah I think you are right again. I only thought of the volume buttons on a headset therefore I suggested a mouse.
Is there list of compatible bluetooth headset? Because I already have one a Jabra BT2015 which is not supported (at least I can't get it working).
I was wondering it there an app that will let me make my phone into a universial remote or even just a remote to control my converter box bc i kinda lost that remote.

Unless your phone has InfraRed port(Which I doubt android phones have since its old), no.
My buddy uses Unify4life from his Blackberry. It uses bluetooth to transmit to a small receiver that relays infrared to his whole home theater. It controls everything he has. I’m sure the Android world will get something similar soon.
I have a cheap USB IR receiver that came with a small remote, which I bought for my HTPC setup (that looks like this). I never got around to using it with my HTPC (Win7), but since I bought a Sony NSZ-GT1, I thought I will give it a try, and was surprised that it was even got recognized (for those who are not aware, this setup comes with a RF remote, so you can't control it from multi-function remotes such as Logitech Harmony). I got only a few buttons to work reliably, mainly the arrows for navigation and OK for selection, but a few other buttons were getting relayed to my Dish receiver via the IR blaster. I was even able to wake it up using the remote, which is great. Since the remote only has a limited set of buttons, my guess is that Google TV already has support for a lot more commands that my remote doesn't know how to emit. I am planning to do some more experimentation with this, perhaps add a Logitech Revue as a device to my harmony and see how compatible those commands are with this device. If anybody has already tried something like this and had success, I would love to hear more.
Hello,
I've recently purchased an SGH-T779 T-Mobile edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and I have one issue I wanted to inquire about.
The tablet has the IrDA port, and yes, it comes with Peel Smart Remote, but I really am not liking that software, at all. First time I used it, it would force close, a lot, just trying to change channels. After a factory reset (after having done something semi-stupid and try to install Xposed Framework which caused a boot lock), it's been working a little better, and hasn't yet, crashed, but the interface is lacking, a /lot/ of functionality, controls, and just isn't very useful.
Now, I should mention, I do have a Logitech Harmony One remote which I primarily use, and I love it. I also have a full entertainment center setup. SmartTV, Yamaha AV, BluRay, etc..
What I'm looking for is if there's ANY decent remote control software that could actually facilitate the IrDA port properly. LG, maker of the SmartTV I have, has a WiFi based soft remote for my TV which is really good, but it doesn't let you turn on the TV, or mingle with the Yamaha AV receiver which manages my HDMI inputs and audio volumes and such.
So, any suggestions? I've done a little looking on the play market, but not finding much actual software that works with IrDA directly. I tried Dijit, but it seemed to require an external device to handle IrDA.
Thanks,
Psi-Jack
Hey all,
I am looking for an app that lets me control a no name projector via my phones infared blaster. All the apps I have tried get you to pick the brand before letting you try and find the right signal to send but this device doesn't have a brand. Is there an app that will let me record the signal from the existing remote (I know not all deivces have an IR receiver but I believe the HTC m9 does.. side question, does anyone know if the honor 8 has this)? If not, is there an app that will cycle through random ones like a trial and error (I have a little universal remote where you hold the button until the tv responds)?
Cheers
