Rooting the OnePlus Nord - Similar to other devices? - OnePlus Nord Questions & Answers

Fully in love with rooting my 3T and have done something I said I would never do, pre-ordered a phone before full release.
I'm curious how long people think it will take for rooting to take place on the Nord once it lands on our doorsteps. I appreciate it takes people time and effort which I would love to buy them a coffee/beer to do so!

It wont take a long time. Unlock bootloader, grab the boot.img and patch it thats all. For testing we can boot it only.
I guess this should work on Nord too.

This works only with a TWRP image for the Nord, which isn't there yet. So first we need to have TWRP working for the Nord.

should be enough to wait for a downloadable stock image from OP. Once we have it we can patch the boot.img from there. Creating a TWRP is also not a big deal once we got the fstab info

Better for us! Because when we get the phone there is already a working TWRP lol:laugh:

Ok, phone is here. What infos / files do you need to build TWRP?

Fstab I guess
Other things are there in the OTA package
---------- Post added at 12:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:48 AM ----------
Root as per the guide published via magisk, then use rootbrowser to get the fstab

Ok, found two fstab files in /vendor/etc, both are attached.

Ok. Since i saw that post in the morning (my local time) had busy day, so i didn't have time to research about chipset issue, what we can do, anyone with fine details of how the stuffs should relate, or how the architecture if the chipset works, can link me up so that we can find a way of getting cm on this device. Am having some ample time to do this work since my studdies are yet to commence (tbh, its because of lectures strike in kenya and bieng in public uni of course means directly affected )
Ill try your suggestions.
if anyone have come across any article or thread describing the work around, can tag on this thread, well see it.

ROOT for SM-J727P Galaxy J7 Perx Galaxy J7 2017

So I brought back my J3 and bought this: SM-J727P Galaxy J7 Perx TD-LTE / Galaxy J7 2017
Is there any way to root this yet? I couldn't find anything.
I'd love a DE-bloated ROM too but I know it doesn't exist yet.
thanks for any help.
Looking for the same thing. Google is not helping. The phone must be too new.
J327P
So I'm going to say one thing find Ashy and bribe hi..hes why i got root on my j3 2017 emerge.mmi know but it was all theyd give me in terms of samsungs and therse only a few other highend and moddable one like moto which allows you yah you the owner to do what u want with again u the owbers device ...what a concept Pm me in a week or so and if u have no takers I'll compile one for you on my Ubumtu17.04 running Mate or on a LTs version of Ubuntu on a cm machine...well I wish you luck and to speed up the process find the kernel and the recovery.img and boot. I MG (.img files can be extracted from a Odin file that goes in the ap slot ) kernel well ask Samsung If someone gets two and wants to trade me for a J7 Perkx for my J327P Emerge I will develop a few from source....which I was successfully creating a moto e surnia . I did what everyone did and started from scratch and I'd be my own tester not releasing it till it was at least sta b le....just a thought

Can you please run Antutu, the benchmarking apk. It would be amazing to get to see the score of the 2.2ghz octa core snapdragon chipset. I have the j3 emerge 327p, rooted and twrp installed (thanks to Ashyx for building twrp and making a way to decrypt data partition!!) I can say with an antutu score of over 28k its the best of the j3 models, so im very eager to check out. Also check out a dev names Messi2050, he developed the twrp for original boost and tmobile j7.
Does this device boot in permissive mode?!
So i find myself with bith a brand spanki g new sm-J327t and sm-j727p. Two pretty cool phones, same phone really. But for the first time since Ive started rooting phones in these past couple months i find myself with no phone to toy with. Developing root is much beyond my skill set. Lets get some root action on these two phones........please!!

Ok seeing as no-one could be bothered to respond to my post I'm just gonna leave this here.
It may boot it may not? It may not even install if this device has a locked bootloader.
If it does then great, report any issues along with the recovery log.
If it doesn't then descriptive information is required along with screenshots where possible. Anybody who simply posts generic 'NOT WORKING' will be ignored.

You say it doesn't boot, but it clearly has, confused?
Also the errors I'm seeing is what I expected using the stock kernel.
The next build will be using a custom built kernel and all those issues should be fixed.
The internal storage won't mount until the /data partition is FORMATTED to remove encryption.
Thanks for testing and reporting.
Hats off

I'm almost 100% certain that your Pixel 2 is a prototype model that was used for real world testing. A similar model popped up on the 6P forums some time back and had different marks on it's body.

Are there other magisk root options than flashing it with twrp?
Cause I will OEM unlock it right away so I must not delete my data later and without magisk I can't pass safety net
Unless there's a wrinkle or 2 that causes a hiccup, is not expect for at least 2-3 weeks from when they get it so 3 weeks or so from now I'd guess.

Yes it's smooth but interms of features and accessibility it's a backward step.
1) Removal of screenshot button in power menu
2) Removal of most used apps in recent screen
3) Too much space wasted in headings in the notification area

Screenshot is more accessible than pressing a button, I don't use any buttons, just swipe up and screenshot is down below, except for powering off, used gestures all than time S2S and so on with clean slate kernel, 2 and 3 don't mind and don't use it at all. That's my opinion, plus on this ROM sometimes it freezes...so far on 11 nothing so far. But it all depends on who uses it...at least developers giving us an option, just stating the fact coz I used both Pixel dust caf and aosp... there's a hiccup freezes sometimes. Anyway, enough with this, this is Pixel Dust topic anyway
