Anyone else have to unlock their device and then change the USB mode from "Charging Only" to "Transfer Files" to make Android Auto work? What a pain in the butt!
When I connect USB cablr .. directly I have to choose transfer files .
It's not issue, I think it's more safe .

More safe to protect your files?
I find it a pain in the a$$
Every phone i have had has done it automatically till this one.
Ended up getting around with it Tasker and AutoInput though shouldnt have too.
I encounter problems too (Chinese model). Since I added both Andoid Auto and Spotify to my 5 startup list apps, it seems to work OK. Sometimes it just randomly stops working, but still investigating if that's to do with the cable.
Another weird thing I have with android Auto is that I can not use voice commands. It is 'temporary unavailable'.

-Activate Developer Settings: Settings, about phone, baseband & kernel, click 5 times on build number.
-Open Developer settings: Settings, additional settings, Developer settings.
-Set default USB settings (under Developer settings ) to File transfer
-Set Select USB configuration (under Developer settings) to MTP.

When I would connect my phone to my computer I used to get a little pop up that would ask if I wanted to start Active Sync or just wanted to go into removable media mode. There was also an option to default to one or the other and not pop up the message anymore.
I must of accidentally hit that because I'm just going straight into removable media mode and never get the options to try Active Sync. Anyone know how to re-enable this option?

Try.....
Start | Settings | Connections | USB to PC and you'll be able to tick the box that says "Ask me first about USB connection...."
HTH,
Mark.
Thanks Mark... That was exactly it.
fix sync
easy way you go to "security" - reset all setting, after that , hub up into computer , phone automatic run sync!
Updated to official froyo no problems. disabled Z4root first, wanting to re-root with superoneclick but the option to enable USB debugging is greyed out. ANy ideas?
Do a backup & factory reset?

ummm, that'd prolly clear my problem up, but would take too much time getting everything reinstalled and reconfigured. Phone's fully functional as far as I can tell, just USB Debugging setting is greyed out. Any ideas other than a factory reset?
heh, figured it out. Thanks, XDA...
anyhoo, seems USB Debugging is greyed out *if* USB is set to Ask on Connect. Set to Mass Storage and USB Debugging is available...

I just got a replacement handset and now I am unable to enter into usb debugging mode. I can select it but as soon as I exit the screen it becomes unselected. I have also tried to select mass storage instead Ask on Connect but it won't let me do that either. Every time I try to select another option I am bumped of the screen. What is going on here?
By the way I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. This doesn't make any sense other than T-Mobile disabled this feature.

It would make more sense to ask at the SGS4G forum.

Is there any way to make the phone come up in MTP mode by default when plugging into a computer? Currently it defaults to charging mode when first plugged in and I have to tap the notification to change to MTP.
That's odd. Mine automatically goes to mtp. There is an option to change the default usb mode in developer options.

I already tried that. Set it to default to MTP, but it still comes up in charge mode.
Again, strange. I've heard of usb debugging mode interfering with mtp, try toggling that perhaps
Edit to add:
Falling that there is an app based solution that automates the process for you provided you have root here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-mtp-enbaler-t3263467

Tried turning off USB debugging, but same result. Then thought it might be related to security settings. I have a pin and fingerprints setup to unlock screen. Turned all that off but same results.
Currently am un-rooted on this phone. Had some trouble getting SU installed plus there are currently no custom Nougat ROMS for this phone, so backed it all out to stock recovery/locked bootloader. Now testing out DNS66 for adblocking and OGyoutube for ad-free youtube experience. Works pretty well so far.

After an extensive search through the forums and contacting Honor services, the problem seems to be the motherboard. Something in the phone seems to have fried during one of the charging sessions. This can't be fixed, according to those I have spoke to about it.
i am a new programmer using flutter framework, but i have problem with that. My device always asking me to choose three usb option ( charge only, transfer files, and transfer photo). Even when building the code, sometimes, the usb option pop out again, causing my devices disconnected. I do already activate my developer options and usb debugging. after trying to solve this, i found out that :
1. When using another phone(not realme 5 pro), it is no problem. it mean that my phone do have the problems.
2. At first, i think maybe the OS have the problme, and I already tried flutter in Windows OS and Manjaro, both are not working. Still have the same issue. usb option keep poping out after some times.
3. I tried the second usb option(transfer files) without enabling developer option, and found same problem(usb option poping out again).
Even no i am still don't know to fix it.

I'm facing the same issues with ColorOS, I don't had a problem when using custom rom but, I don't like using unofficial custom rom because for my R5P it's always had a black screen of death and often stuck at the boot animation so I have to wipe data everytime it's stuck at bootanim. Hope there's a fix
Updated to Android 11. I did the Factory Data Reset, as directed by LG and it solved some problems I was having. When I went to set up Android Auto, it asked me what type of connection I wanted and due to screen lag, I accidentally hit "charging mode" only.
Anyone know where to change this? The only place I see is in developers options
Settings > System > Developer options > Select USB Configuration.
When I select it, the options pop up onto the screen for like 1/2 second, and then disappear before I am able to change anything.
Any suggestions besides doing another FDR?
I have some problem, have you solve it ?

Yes. I had to remove the car from devices and when I connected it next time, I was able to select the correct option.
Ordered a Pixel 5. Tired of LG issues.... I have had the V10, V20, V35, V60. All have had their issues.
