Installing Cerberus

Can someone help me to install Cerberus on my rooted verizon s3. I rooted using the non-flash method and I don't have a custom recovery or rom. Their instructions say:
you can manually install Cerberus in /system/app this way:
- Uninstall Cerberus from your device
- Download Cerberus.apk and put the file on your sd card
- Open a terminal emulator and execute:
su
mount -o remount rw /system
cp /sdcard/Cerberus.apk /system/app/

After research, it seems that I should be able to install using either Titanium Backup or root explorer or adb if necessary.
Is this a simple matter of using Titanium Backup's "convert to system app" feature? Does this automatically move the file to the /system/app directory and set the correct rights?
Or should I place the apk in the /system/app directory using root explorer? What rights would I have to set?

I suggest using RootExplorer. You would just navigate to the system/app directory, mount r/w, and then copy the apk. All those steps are performed using the UI in RootExplorer.

Wifi won't connect
I installed Cerberus in \system\app and rebooted. I got the custom lock screen but this went away after rebooting again.
However, I can no longer connect to my wifi (either automatic or forced).
When I remove Cerberus, and reboot, wifi automatically connects
Any ideas what is going on?
** UPDATE - uninstalled and reinstalled to system/app and everything worked as it should. I'm curious what happened internally - e.g. why the lock screen and why it messed up wifi.

[GUIDE] How Install a App as System APP

You need to be rooted and I recommend use root explorer
The Automatic Way - Just Download titanium Backup or similar app Select the app and just hit covert to System app and reboot and if it force closes even on reboot go down the thread!!
Manual Way
1) Select the Apk Which you Want
2) Take the apk from SD card and copy the apk to /Root/System or any where in the Root
3 )Click yes When it Ask you Whether You Want to

The Current Files System is Read-only. Do You Want to remount as read-write and continue the Operation?
4) Select the file and change the permissions of the apk under select permissions
4) Tick all the boxes under read and only the first one under write and click OK
5) It should look like rw-r--r--
6) Then cut the Apk and pate it to /Root/System/app
And reboot and enjoy

TRUE story but.wrote this if someone needed

In ios there was a separate folder with system apps that can be delete normally but if jailbreak u can access that fold I assuming that it wouldbe close to the same for android

Just search for - How to root " Name of your Device "
Then in recommend you to install titanium backup to uninstall apps easily for installing the apps just follow the procedure which i gave you

I simply used twrp to copy some apps into /system/app

Hi, while millions of people wanted to change normal apps into system apps. I want to change system apps into normal apps.
I know this is the weirdest request you never found on xda history. But I need to remove system privilege on Google Photos because it blocks me from controlling background power consumption (only user app can be changed like that). I'm on realme UI 2.0 unrooted, if it has to be root I'd still take your advice. Thanks.

how to find apks on my device

There is a way to find the .apk of apps downloaded from playstore. ull need root and root browser, we will use here esfile explorer. open esfile explorer and press top left-->tools enable root explorer and show hidden files, then go to local-->device now go to file data-->app and thats it, to find system apps u can go to device-->system-->app.

Pull Apk in Non-Rooted Device.
There is no need of a rooted device,
you can pull the apk by using following techniques.
//_______________________________________________________
A) Using ADB
1) Determine the package name of the app, e.g. "com.whatsapp" (WhatsApp).
if you don't know the package name, you have 2 options to get the package name
i) Visit play store and search for the desired application, The link of the app contains the package name. "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp" (WhatsApp) where com.whatsapp is the package name
ii) use command "adb shell pm list packages" , this will list the package name of all application installed.
2) Once you know the package name, get the apk installed path by using command "adb shell pm path com.whatsapp"
it will return the apk path of the application, like this
package:/data/app/com.whatsapp-2/base.apk
3) Now to pull apk, by using command "adb pull /data/app/com.whatsapp-2/base.apk"
Apk will be extracted to the same folder where adb is present

B) Using ESFileExplorer
1) Open ESFileExplorer and navigate to User Apps either by (swiping left to right twice) or (goto APP under Library in Navigation Drawer)

ur right however, not all system apps are present using the second way, and first way is complicated for some people and might confuse them. if someone would want to change something he saw on google, that is connected to system apps or other stuff"like systemui" i think rooting and copying the apk from its directory is best. btw thanks for ur concern about this, believe it or not for the first 7 month i posted this it posted in android wear, and no one was commenting, i made it with the xda app, i think it has alot of bugs.

IMO, if one is able to root the phone, then he will certainly not find any complication in pulling apk using first way.

u might be right bro but rooting is only downloading a file and flashing it through odin.

I'm rooted, trying to install Xposed Framework, how do I delete a file from /system/?

I tried installing it with both Flashify and Magisk, but both methods failed.
When I tried installing it via the included Xposed Installer, it also failed, but gave me the message:
> Error: Xposed_Framework.jar already exists in /system/framework
I'm guessing a previous installation failed, but left the file there.
My next idea is to delete that file from /system/framework and try again, but since it's in an RO directory I don't have permission.
I tried using a terminal emulator to mount the drive in rw mode, and also tried using a root file explorer, but either both methods don't work, or I just couldn't figure it out.
Anyone have an idea of how to remove or rename that file so I can try to install the .zip ?

In the Xposed app you should be able to just run the uninstaller script. If that doesn't work, boot TRWP and delete it from there.

Unfortunately, the uninstaller also fails.
It says it can't remove that file from a read only directory..

Root Explorer....
This app does wonders, it allows you to modify directories in /system and other root folders. You can even change permissions of specific folders/files from read/write/read-only....etc. I've had this app since the earliest of android days and it has been my go to file explorer. Root Explorer of course requires root....but it completely unlocks your phone and allows you to modify any system file that is set to any permission. Of course there are other file explorers that allow you to modify system files, but this is the one that i have the most experience with. You should be able to access the system folder where the Xposed file remains and modify it so it can fix your problem.

This!. I've used it for years. Not muss no fuss. It's not bloated like a certain couple others I know of. It just does what it does and does it well. Manages files. No extra garbage.Give it a try. I'd be surprised if you can't delete it with Root Explorer. If you do try it, go to the folder you want to delete the file from. Once in there, look at the top right of the screen. Somewhere up there It will say MOUNT R/W. Touch that and you should be able to do whatever you want to within that folder.

Do you have the magisk DNSCrypt module installed? If so, thats why you cant modify anything in /system. Not sure why or how it breaks it, but it does. Took me for ever to figure out what was causing it. Now that i removed the module, i can modify anything i want again.

Change the permissions read/write

1. I'm using an app.
2. My device has been rooted, i'm using root explorer
3. I want to change the permissions (revoke "write" access) of file A in root/data/user/0/com.app name/cache
4. Open the app.
5. File A is still being modified.
6. I revoked write permissions of the parent folder.
7. Open the app.
8. File A is still being modified.
What should I do? I cannot delete that file, or the app will crash. I only want the app to read file A, without being able to modify it.

To change file permissions use Androids shell command CHMOD.

I have tried it, only read permission, but the file still gets modified when I open the app.
