Downloading zip/apks files as "bin" files (weird)... - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

If I download anything like a zip file or a Apk it downloads it as a .bin file, why? Take for instance if I download a APK the end of the file name should be .apk but it's .bin. I changed the file name to end with .apk and tried to install and it said problem parashing the package. I'm on Android 10.3.3 I used fastboot to flash the TWRP IMG then I flashed TWRP 3.4.0 guacamole.zip, then I flashed magisks. Then a while ago I flashed orangefox. I'm very new to the OP7P and need a little help on what I'm doing wrong. Amy help is appreciated.

I'll give it a go, thanks for the suggestion.

The issue must result from the web browser app. Try to download apk files with some other browser app such as Chrome or Firefox.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 7 - Browser.apk

Hi,
can someone please upload the browser.apk from the cyanogenmod 7 for galaxy tab for me?
I do not know how to extract it as the package does not contain a extractable zip file (only a .ext4)
i attach.
in order to extract apps, in unix systems, download the CM7.zip, extract your contents on the desktop and execute "sudo -o loop factoryfs.ext4 factoryfs" (previously, create the factoryfs dir on desktop)...
Wow, thanks a lot!
Is there a way to extract it within Win7?
btw: too bad the browser does not work I got a parse-error when installing. if I put it directly into /system/app the browser does not show up in the app drawer

possibly it requires a sdk version 9
for test purposes, try to change "ro.build.version.sdk=8" in your /system/build.prop
to "ro.build.version.sdk=9"
try "daemos tools" in order to mount iso in win7 or install ubuntu from a live-cd
Or you could just use winrar to extract it.

would the cyanogenmod 6 browser work on the tab? I prefer it over the stock browser.
Use winimage

tested?
has anyone go this to work?
I've tried it too, the CM7 Browser is so much better than the stock one, does anyone know the name, or any way that this would work on 2.3.3 (Overcome)
Would be totally awesome
What is the difference of cyanogen 7 browser and stock browser?

[Q] Downloaded APK files saved as .zip?

Just recently, on two different PCs, whenever I downlaod an APK from XDA-Developers, they are saved as .zip files (saved as "app.zip" instead of "app.apk"). Downloading from other sites works fine.
Is it something with the forums? or with my PCs?
Can the file be unzipped?

Yes, the file can be unzipped & the contents are what would usually be in an apk file.
I just rename it to "app.apk" & it will work. Its just that it did not happen before, and now, on two PCs whenever I download an APK, I have to rename it first.
Apk in .zip
All APK's are just zip files in a format that Android understands and can un-zip almost like and be installed like a program. So, i think, you need to just change the .zip extension to .apk
The main question was that, previuosly downlaoded APK's from XDA were fine, now, they are saved as .zip. why?

Probably because its not illegal I guess... if you were to upload a paid app as an APK u could get in trouble whereas if its in a .zip file then its not considered an illegal file... if you get me... another possibility is that it just takes up less space hope this helps

You might have gotten a corrupt download. Try it again before going to Defcon 2.
And I would install via goo.
I got exactly the same MD5 errors...multiple times
I have downloaded, redownload and redownload again - time and time again i got the MD5 error.
No luck
But I used the commandline interface (the if=/....of=/) on one of these downloaded files and it worked.
I do not think this is Odin format, compatible.
Any other ideas?

how do I return my tablet to stock?

It's currently running cm10.x and using twrp. I've downloaded the firmware file from asus.com. It is a zip file that contains another zip file. Do I just extract the contents and then flash the extracted zip file?
thanks

I downloaded the latest ROM from the ASUS website. I extracted the zip file once and I then copied the extracted zip file into my tablet. I then open the zip file and extracted the contents using solid explorer. I did this just to verify the zip file can be opened.
After this, I rebooted my tablet into TWRP and wiped data/system/cache/dalvik. I then flashed the zip file but when it finished, I tried rebooting my device BUT TWRP is complaining no OS is installed?
Any ideas what I did wrong? thanks

Obviously the flash failed since you still have TWRP. You did a little too much at each step. Flashing a complete firmware file wipes/formats everything: system, data, recovery, bootloader. No need to do that prior.
I don't know why your flash failed, but it could be a bad download, could be that the file got messed up when copying to the tablet or when you extracted it.
I would download another copy of the firmware, extract it once on your PC and then transfer that file to your tablet and flash it.

That's correct. You wiped your OS, and installed the new firmware to the staging partition. The bootloader will flash it from there to the final partitions after the next reboot (with the blue progress bar).

N920TUVU3DPG1 Flashable modem?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has a flashable modem for N920TUVU3DPG1? I ask because I've not found it on the forums here.
Thanks
I'm guessing you're on the new Note 7 ROM? Are you having issues with data syncing? Can't believe no one has repacked the modem and baseband into a flashable zip. If I knew how, I would.

If you guys are talking about the PG1 modem here it is via Odin

I was on it. But I went back to Stock for now. I didn't like the constant disconnection between my smartwatch and the phone. The accessibility services kept shutting off which annoyed me enough.
As for the modem, I restored it via TWRP since I'd backed it up along with the stock software but I don't know if the TWRP restore worked cause the accessibility still glitched (someone told me he flashed the modem and it fixed this).
The data syncing wasn't bad if I remember correctly.... Mind specifying?

No notifications that requires data would sync once the app was closed and swiped from recents. Only texts. When I opened the app I would see the new email, FB notification, etc.

Now that I think of it, this happened for me a lot with the messaging app I used. Also, I use Textra as my default messaging app and out of no where, texts stopped coming in so I didn't know until 4pm that someone texted me at 12:30pm. lol...it was crappy.

link is down anyone have a mirror?
Has anyone flashed just the DPG1 modem and not upgraded the baseband? Can you flash just the modem and still function OK?
If so, does this fix the issue with notifications on the T-Mobile Note 7 port?
Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
I flashed just the modem but it doesnt help with notifications. The only ones that still pop up are sms. Me personally im ok with that until we get a new kernel and fully working tmobile rom with wifi calling and volte.

Hello,
I've been looking to accomplish the exact same thing without having to completely install stock firmware. I followed your guide and it worked perfectly. I wanted to say thank you for taking your time to explain the steps. By chance do you have a kernel you would recommend? I am currently running TEKXodus Ultra Hybrid 13.7 with arter97 build 22. Thank you for any help or advice in advance.
