I have a new oneplus 7 pro coming in a few days.
Coming from a oneplus 6.
Here is what I understand I need to do.
Standard bootloader unlock via fastboot.
Transfer data and items VIA oneplus switch? ( Not sure if this is the best way to do it. I tradtionally do Titanium backup and restore. Seen there was a PC option as well)
Do fastboot boot twrp unknown.img ( do not know what version of TWRP works).
Install TWRP from internal saved file image on phone. Ramdisck/advanced/image recovery/image file.
Install Magisk VIA recovery
Have Super user , busybox pro and magisk on current phone, Are those the ones I want to load on new phone?
Hopefully not too many questions but would help me get on track to do the phone right the first time.
Also when do I do the ATT settings for the phone.
you dont need busybox pro and superuser. flash only the magisk zip file.
the other questions are correct

Hello guys,
first off: i had something to do in the past with all this stuff but my memory isnt that great anymore so please correct me if im wrong
so here's the thing: my OPO decided to not detect my SIM anymore, so i did a factory reset thru recovery. I also rooted the phone before with a video tutorial from youtube (don't know if i can link it here this is my first post^^). What it does is install SuperSU over TWRP. You then have root without erasing your data! I was kinda surprised because i read in other threads that it actually will.
But anyways back to topic. I am now on these settings:
Cyanogen OS 12.1.1-Y0G7DAS2K1
Stock Recovery
Rooted
Bootloader unlocked (not sure, but i guess otherwise it wouldnt work)
I received a message for the OTA Update to Cyanogen OS 13. Downloaded & installed it, phone reboots into recovery. Already surprised here because its not TWRP anymore but i guess it was just temporary for the root installing. Or maybe it was because i didn't unchecked the "update recovery" checkbox in developer options, i think its active on default.
But anyways, the recovery tries to install it and suddenly the menu shows up again with an android in the background (in his chest is a red warning sign). No error, just the graphical android in the background. After a restart, nothing changed still on the same version. I did a factory reset once more and also "deleted media" and wiped cache.
As i mentioned, im not up-to-date with the differences on CyanogenMod and Cyanogen OS.
What i want to do now:
Step 1: Format my OPO as clean as possible.
Is Factory Reset and wipe media etc. enough for this? Or do i have to hard reset it?
Step 2: Root Access and TWRP.
I lost both of these after an OTA update to my OPO. I guess it was when i received the Cyanogen OS update. I would like to know when exactly these two will be erased and what to do to not lose them anymore. I heard it differs between CM and Cyanogen OS.
Step 3: Decision what OS to use: CyanogenMod or Cyanogen OS?
Im willing to wait for updates as long as they're stable. And i would also prefer to just install them over OTA (when it works^^). I don't want to flash like crazy, i only want a steady, rooted, customizable OS. I searched on this forum but im not sure which are the latest versions of both and what the differences are. What would you suggest me on these preferences?
Step 4: Restoring my Data
I backed up my Apps with Titanium Backup and transfered the folder to my PC. Never used it before, so i would like to know if it can cause any problems if i restore it on a newer version of Cyangogen OS or even Cyanogenmod?
Hope i don't forget anything. Sorry for the long post & noob questions you probably read everyday

Ok so first you can not perform OTA updates with a custom recovery like TWRP. So if you want OTA updates don't install a custom recovery. You lost TWRP before even performing the OTA update don't know how but you did. So I am going to instruct you how to start fresh.
1. You need ADB and fastboot installed you can get the minimal version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 or you can get the full SDK manager which has fastboot and adb https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html but if your not planning development just go with minimal.
2. Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541 You don't need to do step 4 since you want to install a custom recovery. So just reboot after you flash all the stock files.
(Also make sure you download the right stock rom he has a 16gb and a 64gb listed. Or you can download the stock rom straight from cynogen os here https://cyngn.com/support
3. Next you will need the TWRP file you can get it here https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/ if you don't have ADB/Fastboot in your path just place the file in the same folder as your fastboot. Also rename the file to recovery.img make sure you don't name it recovery.img.img
4. Download SUPERSU for root get it here https://download.chainfire.eu/1003/SuperSU/SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip
5. With your phone on plug it in to your computer and transfer the SuperSU zip to the download folder on your phone.
6. Unplug your phone and reboot to fastboot then plug your phone back in
7. Open command prompt in the fastboot folder by holding shift and right click and select open command window here.
8. Type fastboot devices (This command will list the connected devices. If your phones serial number shows up you are good to go and may continue. If the phone is NOT listed this indicates that your drivers are not installed correctly. In order for you to continue you must fix your drivers so that your phone is listed under fastboot devices.)
9. Type Fastboot Flash recovery recovery.img
10. Once the flash is done don't let the phone fully boot to system or it will rewrite to the stock recovery so hold the power button and volume down and it will boot into TWRP recovery. IF you let it boot into the system and it does reinstall the stock recovery you will need to re-install twrp
11. Once in twrp perform a backup of your stock rom
12. After the backup is done go back to the main menu of TWRP go to install navigate to the download file and then install SuperSU
13. Now reboot and you now have the stock rom with root and a custom recovery.

Thank you very much! I did all of your Instructions step-by-step and it worked flawless. Im now on the latest CM13 Release. I hope it was the right decision and it runs smooth and stable. And if not i got the backup I do have 2 more questions:
-TWRP asked me if i want to let them "modify my partition". It helps when you are getting official updates. Is that important for me? I guess i will just flash future updates over recovery and not over OTA anyways, so i can left this "modify" option unchecked, right?
-While i did the factory reset, it said that most of the time i will not have to delete internal storage. Does that mean it also excludes private stuff like photos, videos & also backups from titanium & TWRP (if it's the same stored location)? Thank you again for anything

The only way you can do official updates is to follow all the steps above and flashing the newest stock ROM via fastboot and reinstalling twrp. Now if you want to flash a custom ROM like cynogenmod then you can just download the latest ROM from cynogemod and install it via twrp. As far as your pics go I would either upload them to a cloud service or your PC before switching ROMs. For your apps yes just backup with titanium backup and then just restore them when you change ROMs.
Hey,
It's been always a huge headache since when the Android 10 beta and stables updates are out to root and install twrp. I've tried almost every way possible but every-time, end up being stuck at TWRP or being half way rooted. This time I've tried doing that again :
* I was at OxygenOs Android 10 stable version,
* My bootloader was unlocked as well as OEM unlocking and usb debugging was on,
* I turned my phone into fastboot, and flash the twrp image as:
fastboot flash boot file.img
Then after my phone booted into TWRP since once or twice showing that 0mb internal storage, I flashed the Magisk.zip from adb command, and rebooted it.
Since then, my phone is completely stucked at fastboot, I've tried and followed almost every xda suggestion and everything, I've tried flashing flash.bat file, I've tried flashing stock recovery, In fact I've tried flashing complete fastboot Rom (with all in one app)and it everytime boots me into Fatboot.
Please, help me out guys. I'm stressed out of this problem since yesterday's night.
Let me know your suggestions.
Maybe THIS can help you?
Actually this thread helped me just now in the same situation:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
That thread Jonsat mentioned didn't help me either, at all. Its not very clear that thread, telling in the thread to unbrick a OP7 to look at the thread of the OP6, there send them to OP5 and so on, eventually having to use a short written manual for the OP3 which mentions different versions and so on, its not the best for inexperienced people like me, it just send me on a wild chase downloading drivers and other things that eventually didnt work at all. Maybe I will try to rewrite it, as soon as I have enough experience to do so, i own this device for just a week.
Next time, read before you peform the install steps. It's nowhere like the older devices due to the A/B Recovery.
1. Use MSM Downloader to put you back to stock.
2. Upgrade to Android 10
3. Factory Reset to Clean out your phone (don't forget to unlock bootloader)
4. Initialize phone
5. Boot twrp (specific to Android Q + OP7 Pro)
6. Install TWRP and Magisk from TWRP
7. reboot and enjoy your rooted phone

What is MSM download tool? I'm going to try using All in One.
On searching for MSM tool, I found https://www.techoxygen.com/msm-download-tool/ is that correct?
Scratch this, MSMdownload is part of zip, I'll read through https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79972789&postcount=50 and see how it goes
I wanna start by saying that I tried all kinds of Googling and searching this site, and kept finding answers that are really close to my question, but not.
So I got my old Nexus 6P out, unlocked the bootloader (did that years ago for some reason but don't recall why), installed TWRP, formatted, installed stock image from Google Devs or whatever, installed TWRP again, rooted, installed SuperSU, Termux, TWRP app, and a few others to make sure that I have root (I have root), and everything was cool up to that point.
I used TWRP to make a backup at that point, flashed the NetHunter zip for my phone (Nexus 6P Angler), and now it won't boot the OS. It will stop at the bootloader. TWRP recovery still works.
When flashing the NetHunter ZIP, I got success messages. For giggles, I tried installing the NetHunter ZIP twice in a row, and the status messages indicated that it detected some components were already there, so it seems like it is installing, but just not booting.
If this were a computer, I would see if the boot config or partitions needed adjustment, but I'm not sure how to do this from TWRP.
Also, I have the phone in dev mode, usb debug mode, and have ADB and FASTBOOT installed on my computer (Linux Mint something from 2019 or 2020) and all the hardware IDs for FASTBOOT installed and both ADB and FASTBOOT seem to be working perfectly.
When I restore the backup, it takes me back to a working phone, sans NetHunter.
I really want the full install to take advantage of the custom kernel that a allows for WiFi and USB stuff.
I'm sure I'm making at least one silly mistake. Any help would be wonderful!

Get rid of SuperSU and use Magisk root instead. SuperSU is old news and no longer supported. Magisk is the current and most reliable rooting method these days.
Flash the stock image, install TWRP, then flash the Magisk.zip and you'll be rooted. Then continue from there.

I formatted, installed factory image, installed TWRP, flashed Magisk, confirmed root, flashed NetHunter ZIP, same result

So if anyone else is facing the same issuing of wanting to install this old(ish) software onto this old(ish) hardware, and got stuck in the same place as me, here are the three steps that I had to take to succeed that were not in official documentation:
1)When flashing the factory Android image, make sure that you are using the newest version that is supported by NetHunter. At time of writing, this is not the same as the newest version of Android.
2)Remove the -w option from the installation script
3)Be sure to install a compatible kernel from builds.nethunter.com
Thanks again to @Droidriven for the tip on using Magisk
Hey,
I updated already rooted phone with Oxygen updater (forgot that he will remove TWRP in auto install) and now can't get it to fastboot into TWRP with ADB. I tried several .img files but non worked. Every time it goes to Crash dump.
Did someone successfully fastbooted into one? Or the only solution is to go back and do it manually from OOS 10?
Thank you!

If you are on OOS 11 then use the attached file and try the below steps.
1. Reboot to Fastboot mode.
2. Use command : Fastboot boot boot.img (use attached TWRP alone)
3. Once rebooted to recovery mode Install recovery by Advanced -> Install Current TWRP . This should install the image automatically to your device.
Reboot your phone to system mode and then reboot it back to recovery mode later.
Hope the above helps.
TWRP is wonky on A11, for now.
If I'm not mistaken the TWRP provided by other poster will have issues with making and restoring backups.
If you are still rooted and looking for a backup/restore method, you might as well leave TWRP alone for now and simply maintain root through the Magisk app. If root was lost, then you can use the version provided here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-11-unofficial-teamwin-recovery-project.4306803/ which is likely what other user posted, to restore root and then wait for Google to release the full deets on A11 to hobby developers who can then make a new TWRP.
This worked for me to get back TWRP and root after upgrading. Thank you very much!
Hello,
I just update my oneplus 6 to 1.1.2.2 from a recent version.
Usually I go to magisk update OTA before restart my phone but I forgot to do it this Time.
So, my phone is not rooted anymore.
I saw on magisk that there is only apk now.
Wanted to flash a twrp IMG on bootloader and then install older magisk zip version and twrp zip but even If I install all drivers my computer don't recognize my phone on fastboot device.
Can you help me to Root my phone on that case ?
