Hey guys, first time posting a thread so if it's in the wrong place, I do apologize.
I'm not that experienced in ad blockers and I was just wondering which ones you are running or which you would advice to get?
My phone is in the proces of being unlocked so all advices may be for a locked or unlocked phone, that doesn't mather.
Thanks in advance
I use Blokada slim for pop up ads and ads . And for youtube ,Youtube vance no mor ads and skip ads. This android is more and more full with ads you must use some protection if you dont wana ads .
Blokada have a v4 ver in f-drOid
I use Adaway + Steven Black Hosts:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/magisk-unified-hosts-adblocker-t3559019
Best one for me but you need unlock your phone + Magisk root first, blokada for non rooted/locked.
I am using Energized Magisk module. So far so good

If you're rooted just use ad away, a good browser to use is adblock browser from the Play Store.
I use minminguard (Xposed module required) and ad away (root required). The app you are referring to says it will allow some ads. Personally i get the developers point but i don't want any ads. But is you're comfortable with some ads it might be worth a trie. If however you don't want any apps i suggested using minminguard and ad away.
I recomend these two :

and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895.
Enjoy, and say thx to developers of these great apps!
I have netguard and adguard both installed, but neither do the same as Xposed Youtube adblock. Any suggestions would be amazing!
Highly unlikely without root.
YouTube red
Hi
I'm in the midst of rooting etc and am likely to stick with Nougat rather then MM.
Obviously MM has benefits of Xposed - with its various ad blocking modules as well as YouTube ad blocking.
However for those rooted and on Nougat:
1) could you provide your experience with what adblocker is working well for you?
2) is there any way of blocking YouTube ads with Nougat (given we cannot apply the legendary YouTube ad blocker module/Xposed)?
3) unrelated to add blocking. But which root method is preferable or does it really not matter... SuperSU or Magisk?
I can provide some feedback on 3)
No difference in functionality, but if you need to pass safety net - Magisk Root with Magisk Hide is the only way to go

1)
I use Adaway installed via F-Droid. Works for years on several Android devices here. Very few ads get through. Saves a lot of bandwidth.
It rewrites your hosts-file and because of that needs root-rights.
I use this hosts-file on my other computers.
2) I nearly never use YouTube but do not feel bothered. But I do not know if this is due to a hosts-file or my choice of videos.

Ad free YouTube, absolute necessity since xposed isn't on nougat

Well, it's based on Wanam's xposed module. Just be careful not to let Google play update the app!
Title really says everything but I will iterate, on Samsung devices they have a lot of different Package/App disablers, these get rid of pre-installed bloatware that cannot be disabled normally like SwiftKey on this phone.
Does anyone know of anything like that one here?
Thanks

I've removed without root some apps with this how-to:
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
As AdBlocker I'm using Adguard - one big plus is, that some sites does not "see" Adguard and the view on the pages is permittet. It opens a local VPN and is filtering the ads. If you are rootet, you can configure Adguard as a local proxy - so you are able to open a vpn-connection with Adguard enabled.
I am using Adguard Premium as well. Excellent adblocker (you can get it lifetime license 1+1 - 1 PC and 1 android device) for about 6 euros.
Thanks guys, I was hoping for a more direct on device method for the disabling of apps that was able to be undone with a switch on the phone like on Samsung but that is fine there is not enough bloat on here to worry too much.
As for Adguard I will give that a shot and pick up premium if I like it, thanks again!
Hi all!
Could someone give their opinion on what the best ad blocker is? I've been on the NOT so root friendly AT&T Note & S series for so long I forget how awesome it is to have root again.
Any ideas would be so awesome!!!
Thanks in advance and I will remember to hit your thanks button....wouldn't hurt if you could hit my button too lol.
AdAway works well for me, but I haven't tried anything else. You have to download it from f-droid.
AdAway as mentioned above is the best one for me
Has a download link for fdroid on the page. https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.adaway/

Be sure to enable IPv6 in preferences as well.
I also use adaway from fdroid. Its pretty good.

I found that adaway reborn with default settings causes some of the apps to crash. Anyone know how to fix it.
Also adaway doesn't work well on in app ads.
I use adaway, fyi if u use venmo ull have to turn adaway off before being able to login if i remember right

AdAway is the best.
did someone mention adaway yet
Blokada is another good one.
DNS666 works but they're more of a battery drain with it.
Definitely AdAway

I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but AdAway.
I use Unified Hosts Manager from the official Magisk Repository and have no problems so far.

Me too, I switched to Unified Hosts from AdAway, because it was more comfortable for me. Both work very well. Unified hosts has nice checkboxes to block Fakenews, Gambling, Porn, Social. And also whitelist and blacklist.
I've never used ad blockers on my phones before, just on my browsers. But thanks for asking about it, as now I am using AdAway as most have suggested!
But now I think I might have to try Unified Hosts. Are there any conflicts if you run 2 ad blockers?
Find unified hosts the best with the whitelist so I can still get Google ads when I search for something in Google!
Used to run adaway but it blocked everything
So everyone mentioned AdAway but no one mentioned how it works or how to use most efficiently.
AdAway is a hosts based ad blocker IE it blocks ads by blocking access to the domains which provide ads, and it does this for the entire system.
So you need to have some lists of domains that provide ads to block them. AdAway has some by default, but they aren't very complete. So you should add http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/hosts
to host sources ( I forget what it is exactly called since I haven't rooted my OP6 yet) and I found it blocks most of the ads, though you still have to deal with some. But I used this for more than a year and my experience was great. If anyone has any other suggestions for hosts sources it would be amazing.
Also to block ads in YouTube, you need to install YouTube Vanced from https://vanced.azurewebsites.net/
adguard works great. If you have root, get systemless xposed & use minminguard.
Is there a way to block YouTube ads on chrome? I don't want to use an app for YouTube
