Phone Bricked After Installing OTA Update - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

I recently purchased an Oneplus 7 pro from Ebay and the phone was working fine. It's locked to T-Mobile and it prompted me to take an update, I believe the update was for November 2019 and was almost 2 gb in size. I rebooted the phone when it said to reboot to install the new features, and the phone never came back on after that. I tried charging it for hours, tried holding the power button + volume up/down buttons to get it to reboot, and none of this has done anything for the phone. There's no sign of life, the phone was working great prior to the update.
Is there any suggestions for fixing this?
Thanks.

go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-hard-bricked-t3934659 and use the global version. that will allow you bootloader unlock phone when done.

Thanks for the link, I downloaded everything and disabled driver enforcement but my phone is still not showing up in Device Manager. The computer makes a noise as I connect it to the USB port, but other than that it isn't doing anything.

with the phone off, hold vol up and plug usb cable in. It should boot to edi mode then.

I think it was the cable I was using that was causing it....used a better usb cable and it recognized in the Device Manager.
I can't flash it though as it gives error "param preload device not match image"

Hi,
I'm assuming you are trying to revive the phone using MSM tool. If so, the only successful way to do this is to connect the phone to a USB 2.0 port using the official cable. This will make the phone appear on the tool and then you can proceed.

I was able to get it to flash successfully. I used the files from the tmobile to international conversion since it required a hacked MSM tool. I'm a complete Noob at phone flashing and really spent a LOT of time reading tonight to figure it out. Phone flashed successfully but said the battery was now too low to turn on. At least it says something!
I'm charging it up now and hopefully it works after this!

I use a USB 3.0 and USB c port on my computer and no issues

OK so I manage to get the phone flashed to the international version using the MSM tool. I then downloaded the DP 3 developer file like suggested. I put it in the root for my phone, went to system settings, system update, and got to install it locally. It installed 100% and then asked me to reboot for the changes to take effect.
I reboot the phone and then nothing, it's black and unresponsive the way it was when this whole thing started.
I'm sure I can just reflash the international file with MSM to get it working, but is there any reason why updating my phone in this manner always fails and a way for me to fix it?

Really, I couldn't get the phone to come up on the MSM tool in the Qualcomm mode on USB 3 port. But when I connected the cable to the USB port, it appeared there.

[Q] Is it bricked?

Hey guys,
I was trying to root my phone using z4root, went for the permanent root but now my phone wont boot past the cell provider screen.
It worked fine with the temporary root.
I can get into the recovery console so I was hoping I could do something from there?
Any help is much appreciated.

Does z4root give you the option to un-root?
1st thing to try; take the battery out for 2 min. Put it back in and start the phone

Ten minutes out of the box I mucked up my phone ROMing it and it did the same thing. AT&T, black screen, loop. I worked on it a day and a half. Finally I resolved it with this link and a home made jig.

Take batt out put back in
Hold volume. Up and down plug in USB cable. If it goes into download. Use Odin flash to stock

This is a soft brick, i.e you can still recover your phone. Look for the ODIN one click stock thread and follow that to restore back to the non-rooted stock. You can also try the ODIN flash of rooted froyo (stock+Voodoo-Froyo-I897-UCKB1). In both cases all you need to do is get into download mode and the installation is from the coputer.
Good luck

I wrote this up a while back, and oddly enough, have posted it 3 times tonight, might as well do it 1 more time:
Flash to Stock JF6:
1. Download Odin One Click from: http://www.mediafire.com/?0w2y31maz8mdom4
2. Download your Windows Drivers(if you havent already) from:
Windows 64bit: http://www.mediafire.com/?3dh4d6up72me9re
Windows 32bit: http://www.mediafire.com/?0b45zo7o75rc5d5
3. Make sure your USB cable is connected directly to the back of your computer, not a USB hub or to a front connection and all of your drivers have been properly installed
4. Do not connect your USB cable yet.
5. On your phone, go to ; Settings/Applications/Development/and check “USB Debugging”
6. Turn your phone off
7. Remove your SIM card and Micro SD if you have one
8. Open Odin One Click
9. On your phone, press and hold the Volume up and the Volume down buttons. Do not touch the power button. If you have a ROM that supports a extended power menu, just press and hold the power button until the extended power menu comes up
10. While holding them, or after you select DOWNLOAD mode, insert your USB cable, wait for a couple of seconds and a yellow triangle with the Android figure will show up
11. You’ll see in Odin, that your phone has been discovered
12. Press “Start”
13. ***VERY IMPORTANT*** Do Not mess with your phone at all. If you lose your USB connection, you could brick your device, and will possibly have to make a jig
14. When it is done, your phone will reboot and Odin will display “Removed”
15. Unplug your USB cable from your phone
16. If you are proceeding to Master clear, you must close Odin BEFORE Master Clear
Master Clear:
1. Ensure you have backed up all of your information onto your Micro SD or your desktop BEFORE doing this. IT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR INTERNAL SD!!
2. Make sure to remove your SIM and Micro SD if you have one
3. With your USB cable disconnected from your phone, open Odin One Click
4. On your phone, go to: Settings/Applications/Development/and check “USB Debugging”
5. Connect your USB cable to your phone
6. You’ll see in Odin, that your phone has been discovered
7. Click “Master Clear”
8. When the Master Clear has completed, your phone will reboot.
9. The phone is now as it was when it came from the factory
EDIT: For root I use Galaxy One Click and if you want to sideload it Sideload Wonder Machine.

Bricked

I've bricked my OnePlus 7 pro.. how to go on edl and flash ROM..
The MSM tool should work eventually, the one time I used it, it took ages to get it working.
A few tips:
1] Use the official cable that came with your phone
2] Follow a guide like this (The certificate part is very important, it won't work without it), ensure you have the latest drivers (I've just exported my current ones from the phone here for you to download, Windows and Mac drivers are in there)
3] Make sure your computer sees the device when you press both vol up+down + power and lists it as the "QUSB_BULK_CID..." device, if your computer does not do that then the phone is not in the correct mode and the tool won't see it so won't show the entry to flash the stock rom(i.e. When it says "connected"), this part took me a while for the computer to list it properly.
4] Keep trying and don't give up, you should eventually see the MSM tool recognise the phone properly, as I said, it took me ages to get it working.
5] When the tool does start (and it will, I promise...eventually), leave it to do it's thing and leave the phone for a while to set itself up, you will, obviously, lose whatever you had on the phone because the tool will put it back to completely stock.
6] If I remember correctly, once the tool has finished the install the phone will reboot itself and will do an initial setup again.
7] Good luck and don't give up hope, I didn't think it was working at all either but it did eventually.
If you need to install an OS on your phone, follow this method.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/one...tboot-t3972469
This will get you back to factory settings, unlocked bootloader. This was and is the only method that works for me. Good luck!
Thank you
It finally worked. Turned off the phone completely, then pressed and hold volume up & down button for 5 seconds and then plugged in the usb cable to phone while holding the volume buttons. It recognised the phone and started flashing the file.
Thank you once again
Actually, let me add this that that the phone needs to be connected to a USB 2 port and not 3.0 for the qualcomm download mode to work and eventually for MSM to recognize your phone..

You don't have bootloader unlocked? You might need to find your correct msm tool for your device, depending on if you got your phone from OnePlus or T-Mobile, or send it in for repair? A few people on here, including me, also was able to send it to OnePlus via 1 day airmail and have it shipped back the same way and repaired all for free. That might not be an option for you though, I don't know how much you need your phone but if it's bricked either way it might be the best option. Try the msm tool first though instead of using fastboot to flash stock.

My bad, didn't see that he changed op. I mean if he could not connect through msm, there are a few options to try, including installing a driver manually for the qcom device. I had to fiddle with drivers and whatnot for about an hour or so before flashing was able to successfully commence. msm should help but scheduling a remote repair might take a day or so from oneplus so might as well try you know?

So you tried it though it sounds like. It requires specific steps to work. You need drivers to be installed, go into EDL mode by having the device off and holding volume up while plugging the device into your computer, and then you have to start it when the device is enumerated. Are you willing to try msm again? The only other options really are to have a remote session with oneplus, which might take a day or so to get done, or send it for free for repair?

Yeah, I have bricked my op9 so many times I know what you are talking about. With the power cycling thing I have no idea why that happens, but sometimes if I start the msm tool while it is detected, it will stay in EDL mode and stop cycling. Other times I realized that it was not really in EDL mode to begin with. Make sure that the device is completely off. Open up msmtool and get it ready. Hold volume down and up, without holding the power button, and then connect it to your pc. Once it shows up just click start. You might need to try different usb ports, and/or make sure that your drivers are installed for qcom device in edl mode.

I believe so? in device manager you should see the device and then COM... like COM4 or COM3 or something, as long as it is COM and then a number, and if it shows up in msmtool then the drivers are probably installed. The process won't work if you dont have drivers set right, so try it and if it fails make sure that it is the right msmtool and that you have drivers installed. Do not touch it while it is doing its thing, lay it down on a surface or something just to be safe. Also you might not have to do this but I have found success with msmtool by going offline like disconnecting ethernet and turning off wifi, and setting my date back to december of 2018 in windows before starting the tool, I do not know why but if it fails try that first above all else.

Reflash Poco f2 pro with QFIL through EDL

My phone was hard bricked after my battery ran out. It only shows a red light when charging.
Luckily the 9008 mode works and through the testpoints i'm able to connecti via edl.
Unfortunately MIFLASH doesn't work since you need an authorized account. However, i'm trying to use QFIL to flash on a fastboot rom. It doesn't seem to work.
Would anyone be able to help me with:
1. a guide on how to flash through QFIL (and which rom i need to use)
2. a No Auth Firehose file for this phone so i can use MIFLASH without authorization.
Thanks!
ok. Some progress now. I'm able to access fastboot. However, the phone is not detected on the computer. Red light while charging is also not present anymore, although i doubt that this is the flexcable issue.
Does anyone know how i can reflash with a locked bootloader in Fastboot?

With Mi Assistant but if the phone is not detected it is mission impossible.
some more progress.
Phone is turning on now, but is stuck at the miui logo. I have no idea why this phone is coming back to live so randomly. Still not able to see the phone in windows. (nothing in device manager)
I also don't understand what is going wrong. I didn't reflash anything. I only replaced the flex cable and then my phone only lid up with the red charging light (staying red).
Now the red light is not on anymore. But i'm sure there is connection since i was able to get into 9008 mode with the computer connecting to the phone in EDL.

Wiped the data, and the first boot still is stuck at the miui logo. Waited for a good 25 minutes. Mi assistant in the recovery menu doesn't let me connect with the computer either. I'm really curious why that is.

already did that. No go. I'm a bit frustrated as to why the pc doesn't see the phone.

If the problem occurred after replacing a component (battery, cable, etc.), surely something is incorrectly mounted or defective.
I have a spare charging pcb. can try that. But i'm not sure that's going to help since i can see the phone in 9008 mode. Just cannot flash the phone due to the mi account restrictions.
tried the new pcb. Same problems. I'm wondering. How do i activate wlan when in recovery mode. It shows that you can download a software package over wlan in recovery mode but everytime i click wlan it activates and immediately deactivates again.

Btw:
Have you changed the battery?
Was the phone detected before?
What is the rom installed?
And now the phone is bootlooping. There is more and more life coming in this phone. But i really cannot understand why this phone is not properly working. There is nothing i'm changing here so the fact it's all of a sudden bootlooping doesn't make much sense to me.

1. Have not changed the battery. Battery seems to be fine.
2. Yes Phone was detected before. I used the last bit of power to get most of my pictures off the phone. Also, now it's still detected under 9008 mode.
3. Rom installed was the stock rom (poco f2 pro global) that came with the phone.
battery is at 98%. Phone just turned on for the first time. It's asking me to login to my mi account to unlock my phone. However, it cannot verify the password because there is no network connection. Wifi is not working, and there is no way of setting the sim settings until my phone is unlocked.
So, now i need to understand why the wifi is not working.
This is seriously the strangest thing i've encountered with phones. just doesn't make sense at all
ok. Just got my phone unlocked. However, phone keeps powering off during first setup. Phone is still highly unstable and the wifi doesn't seem to work well. The phone is at the moment useless. It's too unstable to use as a daily driver. Hopefully this will get better. Does anyone know why the wifi doesn't seem to work. seems to be a problem in all modes (rescue, and normal phone
edit: phone just turned off again while setting the pincode.
edit2: just updated with a new version of miui, wifi is still a problem, and phone turned off during updating all the system apps. Really not sure why this phone is so unstable now.
Ok, still an unstable phone. Seems like WIFI Bluetooth and usb connection don't work.
Does anyone know if it might be a loose cable that i need to reseat? Does it sound like a certain chip that needs to be replaced?
nobody has a clue?

From the symptoms described above, it seems that your F2 pro has soldering problems with the SoC (system on chip) which is basically reballing the cpu

Bricked bootloader? ULEFone Armor X7

Hello all. Firstly, i wish to apologise if this isnt the right place. But its been a while since ive been here, and couldnt find a ULEFone section.
Ill try to be as descriptive as i can.
Ive got my hands on a ULEFone Armor X7 that was running Android 10. It came to me with the problem of when you boot it up, it complained about corrupted firmware. And i had to press the power key to continue. They tell me it happened when they clicked on a link from a message and it took them to some website ending in RU. The phone rebooted and then displayed that every time.
So i went to their support page, and downloaded all the files needed to restore the firmware to stock. Using the SP_MDT programm they provided, Followed all the instructions to the letter. And everything responded as expected.
Looking around with other users who use mediatek/ULEFone devices this seems to be the norm.
-Plugged into the phone while holding volume down. Started a Port scan using the software
-Then using the software i start a firmware upgrade on the 1 port my device was connected to
-Let that finish, and i should unplug and reboot the phone
Except when it came time to reboot the phone. It just doesnt power on now. And now when plugging into the PC it comes up with "USB Device unrecognised/damaged"
If i leave it unplugged for say 30 mins and try again. The computer recognises it this time. But when i try to do a port scan with the tool again, it just fails.
Tried various PC's and differeing windows versions. All with the same results.
Is this phone now basically a goner? Or is there a chance i can recover it?
And what would have went wrong?
Thanks in advance

I suspect you're going about it the wrong way.
You shouldn't be holding any button when you connect for flashing

This was what was mentioned in the manufactures documents for reflashing the firmware. As holding down volume down while plugging in puts the phone into bootloader mode.
Pressing nothing when plugging in doesnt give me anything.

Why don't you try SP flash tool. I'm not sure if this model has secure boot but I'm guessing its DA file is contained in the zip you downloaded if it does

I will give this one a go (As soon as im able) and let you know what happens. Thanks
So this one gave the the same problems.
The DA Download bar goes to 100%. Sits there for a while then bails out.
However i did get a nice error message pop up that will hopefully help.
Hope this helps
I have not managed to get much further than thia. My guess is the phone is hard bricked. No amount of different software/drivers etc seems to have any effect.
It gets to the DA Download phase at 100%. But then just sits there. And then failes out with the above message. From what ive read about this does indead mean its done for.
Thanks for the help all the same
did you manage to fix it ?
