MIUI 12 System Launcher Review - MIUI Central

MIUI 12 comes with an update to the launcher we are used to from MIUI 11 and previous versions. I am running MIUI 12 on my Xiaomi Mi 9T and have had a couple of weeks to try out all of the new features. The new launcher has a bunch of great features worth talking about. So in this thread, I'm going to go through all of the features of the MIUI 12 launcher and show you how they work.
Before we get into it, this is the information for my current version of the MIUI 12 launcher.
App info
App name: System launcher
App version: RELEASE-4.17.0.1856-05061819
APK name: com.miui.home
Launcher Design and Layout
Lockscreen
The lockscreen is a very simple setup, displaying the date and time with shortcuts at the bottom for camera and controls. If your phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner like my Mi 9T, your fingerprint icon will show up in the bottom center of the display.
Home Screen
The home screen layout has options for a 4x6 or 5x6 grid and resizable icons. You can customize the transition effects with seven different options. To open your launcher settings, you can pinch or hold the home screen. Here, you'll be able to group or remove specific icons. You can select multiple icons at once for batch editing. If you swipe left from the home screen, you will bring up the app vault which is a customizable information center.
App Drawer
The app drawer is an entirely new feature in MIUI 12. You can toggle app drawer on in your settings menu. At the top of your app drawer, you'll find categories that sort your apps and make them easier to navigate. A search button on the bottom lets you search for apps by name.

Notification Shade
Swipe down on the left side of your screen to bring up the new notification shade. Your notifications will now appear in this dedicated space. You can customize what apps will push to your notification shade in the setting menu. You have options for Lock screen notifications, Floating notifications, and Notification badges.
Control Center
Swipe down on the right side of your screen to bring up your control center. This area contains all of your quick settings and toggles. Manage your wifi connection, Bluetooth settings, flashlight, brightness slider, and much more, all in this simple menu.
Launcher Themes
The MIUI 12 Launcher has a theme engine that is able to customize many different aspects of your phone. Here is a full list of the customizable features of the MIUI 12 launcher.
Lock style
Status bar
Icons
Messaging
Dial pad
Favorites tray
Boot animations
Boot Audio
You can browse the theme store and download many different free or paid-for themes. Then you can use elements of these themes to create your own masterpiece. You can backup the themes you've put together so you don't lose them when you switch to something new. The new launcher also supports live wallpapers and super wallpapers.
Here is a sample of what the new super wallpapers look like:
Dark Mode
Dark mode users will be very happy with the new system-wide dark mode option in MIUI 12. You can toggle the dark mode on in your display settings. You will also find an option to adjust your current wallpaper to dark mode, to match the rest of your system. If you only want dark mode on for a portion of the day, you can use the schedule feature to go from default to dark mode at a specific time. If you don't want dark mode on every app, you can toggle specific apps to apply this theme.
Status Bar
You don't have to settle for the default layout for your status bar. Go to your display settings and find the status bar menu. Here you'll be able to toggle features on and off. Here are all the features that you can toggle for the status bar:
Show notification icons
Show connection speed
Show carrier when device is locked
Use Control center
Edit carrier name
Battery indicator
These are all of the features you can expect to find in the new launcher in MIUI 12.

I'm proud to present my new app: Notification Toggle.
With this app, you can place different toggles into your Android status/notification bar for quick access without having a dozen toggle-widgets on your homescreens
You can choose which toggles to display in the settings of the app. You can also change the color of the icons as well as the icons completly to fit your systems design.
The app is for free in the Play Store, would be nice to get some feedback
Download
Some notes:
not every toggle will work on every device: especially the flashlight functionallity is very erratic and every manufacturer implemented it somehow different. you should install TeslaLED in addition to notification toggle
some settings aren't changeable by user apps, so it will bring you directly to the android settings (like GPS since Android 2.3)
if have a rooted device, you can install the app in /system/app to directly toggle GPS even on Android 2.3+ Click here for more information
Issues with the TalkBack service? See here
Some nice icons: (you can also use this app on Android 2.3+ to download the icons)

works well on my G1 with SuperE.
if i find any bugs, i will let you know
Works great, needs some theme support or basic coloring of the icons would be great,
Any chance that we can change stuff straight from the status bar, without having the pop-up menu like in CM7 status bar,
i think thats only possible in the latest android version. i dont think it will support anything lower than froyo for that feature

yeah, some skinning stuff is on my to-do list... edit: icons are now changable through menu -> skin
toggling without the pop-up is possible on some devices (e.g. on a htc legend with stock rom) but on most it handles only one click-event per notification. unfortunately it seems not to be possible for user apps to change that
Nice work. I'm just curious why you can't directly toggle GPS when something like SwithPro can.
well, there might be some hacks to somehow toggle the GPS, but the official google API doesn't allow you to do that.
actually, android itself turns the GPS off is no app is using it. so google intention is that you let the gps settings enabled and let the system handle turning it on and off
Working great on my LG G2X o
The app works well, except the flashlight (which was the main reason I downloaded the app) does not work for me at all. It's a Samsung Galaxy S (Fascinate on Verizon). The phone DOES have a flash, but no change when I toggle.
great works with my hd2 with ud 3.3
Is the toggle for 3g included?
Just gave it a try on my LeeDroid (2.4) Desire, works quite well
The lack of Power Control Widgets in the notification bar has been one of the major things stopping me from moving to the Gingerbread LeeDroid build, this may just make me move on over
Sorry - i found the 3g/Data toggle ;-)
Buy the way - realy great app!!!
Looks great, I'm about to try it out.
The marker screenshot shows that there's no percentage display for adjusting brightness. Would be great if I could actually see how much % of brightness I set!
i recently changed from a gingerbread sense rom to a nexus S rom on my HD2
I much preferred it but the only thing i was missing was notification toggle....NOW i have again thank you very much!
One thing I would like is if notifications could appear ABOVE the settings rather than below it- if this is possible?
Thanks mate! This solves the only downside of this ROM!
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Why would you use this over Widgetsoid? Just curious and wondering I should switch or not.
Somthimes you find a app wich should have been part of Androide, and this is such a app!
1 thing im missing is the posibility to toggle betwen no sound AND no vibrate or Normal. Now you can only toggle betwen Normal and Vibrate.
Just tried it on my Legend: works great.
Here's a couple of suggestions though :
Would be nice if the icons were grey whenever it's off. For example, if my WiFi is turned off, the icon would be grey, and black when it's turned on.
I also believe you can toggle GPS directly. Oh, and by the way, when I click on GPS my phone shows the security (lock screen and stuff) settings instead of the GPS settings.
I would love a Battery icon (with percentage) and a volume control shortcut.
Anyway, thanks for all your work
Flashlight doesn't work on Motorola Defy with Pays v3.3. With Widgetsoid it does.
Can't 4-5 toggles be put in a row, something similar with power controls widget?

[NO ROOT] How to get almost every Google Pixel feature on any phone!

Let me start by saying that this guide will work best with a Nexus 5X/6P because they're the only ones that can use the Google Pixel Launcher, however you can still (probably) use every other feature and it will still look somewhat similar to a Pixel.
If you're like me and you don't want to go through the hassle of rooting because many things can go wrong and some things usually go wrong it's just not worth it. This doesn't mean you shouldn't root but for most people this guide should be enough. Also I would suggest you to buy these apps and support the developers because they're all very cheap and definitely worth the money.
I'm using a Nexus 5X with Android 7.1.1 (NPF10C)
Here we go:
1) Google Pixel Launcher
First you'll need to download the new Google Pixel Launcher from here. Make sure to scroll down and check if a new version is available.
Install the app and tap the home button then tap Pixel Launcher, make sure that you tap "Always", this will make Pixel Launcher your default home app.
2) Wallpapers
You may have noticed that you can't actually change your wallpaper until you install this.
So, download this or dowload the official wallpapers app from Google, it's on the Play Store but if your device isn't compatible with it you can use the previous link. (They're the same files)
3) Live Wallpapers
Go to this page, scroll down and just install the APK.
Go to your home screen > long press anywhere > go to wallpapers > scroll all the way down and you should see "Live wallpapers" and that's it.
4) Icons
I should warn you that if you do this you will lose the long press menu, so if that's something you use all the time just skip this step!
If you want to do this first take screenshots of your home screen!
You'll need to completely clear your home screen so that it looks like this:
4.a) Download the Awesome Icons app from the Play Store.
4.b) Purchase the Pixel IP app (it will work with Awesome Icons)
4.c) Download the Pixel Icon Pack app
4.d) Open up Awesome Icons > swipe left > tap Icon Packs > make sure that you see Pixel IP and Pixel Icon Pack
4.e) You'll notice that there are 2 styles of round icons:
But why do we have 2 styles of icons? That's because Pixel IP seems to have a lot more icons which is why you only see 1 icon next to some apps.
Pixel IP seems to just reduce the size of the image and just put a circle around it, it doesn't look the best but it's still better than nothing. Fell free to use any other icon pack.
4.f) To create a shortcut of an app press on the image (use Pixel IP or Pixel Icon pack) and tap OK. This will create a shortcut of that app on your home screen so just go through every app and select the ones you want.
4.g) Once you're done go to your home screen, it should look like this:
Now sort your icons and that's it!
Also check your wallapers, Pixel IP adds more Google Pixel wallpapers!
5) Navigation Bar
5.a) Install Navbar Apps and buy the pro version.
5.b) Go to this Drive folder and download all 3 images for your device.
5.c) Go back to Navbar Apps tap on "Show image under Nav Bar" and go to settings.
5.d) Tap the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner and choose "Import images without cropping".
5.e) Choose the relevant files and press import.
5.f) The Pixel Nav Bar should be the last one, just tap on it.
Make sure that the option "Hide image when navigation bar is transparent" is disabled, the option is in Custom Images!
Last thing, in the main view tap the 3 dots and go to settings, then go to color change animation and choose the one you like, I think None looks the best.
This is what Navbar Apps should look like:
6) Camera App
Go to this page and just download and install the APK.
7) Phone App
Go to this page, scroll down and download and install the APK.
However this setup is still not perfect:
-The Nav Bar sometimes doesn't work in Chrome
-The Nav Bar is completely static (it isn't animated like the original)
And that's it!
If you have any questions ask me or the developers of these apps.

Mi Control Center will change the way you use your phone. Separate your quick settings from your notifications.
Swipe down from the left of the status bar to read your notifications
and from the right side to control your device settings and perform meaningful actions.
Trigger areas can be customised as you wish.
You can change your phone to MIUI and iOS design very easily and in few steps,
then configure everything to your preference.
Let me know if you have any suggestions below.

Looks cool I installed (and tried) it but I feel like I like the stock control panel on One UI 2 more. I'll keep using the stock one (at least for now)
hide system status bar
Hello, you should add ADB command to hide system status bar, so they never overlap.
Hello,
Promising app. Just bought the pro version to encourage further development.
First, a bug report:
- I have setup the Quick Connect icon for NordVPN but it doesn't work. Whenever I click on the QuickConnect icon, it stays grey out and doesn't toggle the VPN on and off (this icon toggle works fine with my original rom (emui)). I believe I have set it up correctly in Mi Control Center, because when I long-press the icon, it open the NordVPN Information panel.
- In Color menu, "Reset all color to defaut' does not reset the Active tile color, and completly messes up the background (becomes transparent, even if set to Image blur)
Then, a few improvements, if I may:
- Could you add an option to expand the width of the Notification and Control Center panels to make them (almost) full screen wide. Currently I find these panels too narrow.
- Can you add an option to keep the original rom status bar visible and to remove the Mi Control Panel status bar.
- It would be great to be able to customize the notification color (and have the font color adapt to the background; ie white font if notification color is dark).
- In Control Center mode, could you add an option to have the text below the icon written over 2 lines (as opposed to scrolling from left to right), like it is done in Notification shade mode
- Could you add a 3rd presentation option that would be a mix of Notification Shade and Control Center. I like the way icons are displayed in Control Center, but would love to have the Notifications below upon the first swipe (before expanding the control center fully).
- Could you use a smaller font for "Control Center" above the icons. Do we even need "Control Center" in there, as it is quite obvious. If you need to fill in a blank space here, maybe you could add the time instead.

Status bar is part of system UI
So if you disable it, you'll break your system
Wysłane z mojego RNE-L21 przy użyciu Tapatalka
I am using Vivo y12
I downloaded it for customisation
But every time
I came out from the app
The MI contol center would disabled
It shows due to battery optimization
Battery optimization control is not in vivo y12 .
So I can't able to use it properly
Suggest a way to use it completely without problems.
wonderful!
and could add an option to remove the Brightness Bar?I don't adjusts it usually and like more succinct QS panel, thx!
Just bought this app because I was sick and tired of MIUI 12's broken notifications order, and what this app does is great!
However... there's a bug in quick settings, when you want to use custom tiles, like from AutoNotification. The actual names of the tiles are not resolved, instead is says "AutoNotification x", see the screenshot.
There's issue is brightness slider moving up, "sticking" to the quick settings panel.
Another issue is custom quick settings tiles not updating it's state, for example "Bloker reklam" (see screenshot) is an on/off toggle, and while does work, it does not update the state in the panel.
Can i use root to make this app the default status bar for good? Does it has that option?
İ do all settings but its dont work on Samsung galaxy s20 ultra. When i slide down to panel work Samsungs panel. How i use this app on Samsung galaxy s20 ultra.
Idk if this is still active but i'll try anyway... Could you make It possible to mannually set the color of the clock? Right now it is white and i would prefer to have it black because i think it complements better with my wallpaper...
This needs to be updated to work with Xiaomi phones that use the native MIUI Control Center.
New Xiaomi phones these days running on MIUI 12.5 ~ MIUI 13 will use the new MIUI Control Center as the default notification style. They don't even let you change this setting anymore. If you have a Mi Pad 5 running MIUI 13, the ONLY way you can look at your quick tile toggles is to do a swipe down motion from the top right of the screen. This is equivalent to the "quick pulldown" setting on some custom ROMs.
Alternatively, you can swipe down from the top middle of the screen (which will show your notifications), then from that screen, swipe to the left and you'll see the quick tile toggles. In other words, this is page 2 of the Notification menu. Keep this in mind.
On the other hand, the old MIUI Control Center style is much simpler. You can do a swipe down motion anywhere from the top of the screen and you'll see both the quick tile toggles and your notifications all on the same page. However, as I mentioned already, on newer MIUI versions you cannot go back to the old Control Center style. The setting is just not there anymore.
So here's the issue. There are 3rd party apps that create quick tile toggles and they don't work with Mi Control Center. Normally, Mi Control Center will ask you to find the quick tile in the System notification shade. However, Mi Control Center ASSUMES that you are able to see your quick tile toggles on the first page of the notification shade, so the first thing it will do is open the System notification on page 1. Remember, with MIUI 12.5~13, these are found in the 2nd page of the notification shade. Because of this reason, it doesn't recognize anything that you tap on in the 2nd page.
Even if you go into the Calibrate Tiles section in Mi Control Center and manually set the position number of the quick tile, it won't work.
