How do you root it?
You can upgrade
you can upgrade the phone but you can't upgrade without losing data. you can try by un-selecting f.reset time and you have to only flash the AP file in odin.

first backup you data using smart swith it's the best for samsung devices
download the latest update manually (Firmeware Website) and install it from odin
then start you phone and check for update and update to the latest if there an update available

Hi all,
My first foray into Samsung modification has me wanting to install a patched Magisk boot.img through Odin. However I've never used the tool before and documentation for people new to Samsung with this device is thin on the ground as are any step by step YouTube videos for the latest ODIN for this purpose, so I have looked.
Which option do I use in ODIN to flash the patched_boot.img.tar through? Do I simply tap AP in the latest ODIN build and select the aforementioned image and then enter Download mode and hit Start? Or is there anything further I need to do to the patched_boot.img.tar?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
You have to flash patched_boot.img.tar as AP in ODIN.

Thankyou Unfortunately it didn't work and bootloops/hangs at boot. Have you managed to install Magisk with the new method?
I have the same problem today, see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/replace-stock-boot-img-sm-g935f-t3670348

Hi. I need a bit of help. How did you manage to extract the boot image from your devise to install Magisk? I don’t have a nano backup and my phone is bricked, but i have the firmware ready to flash via ODIN, and I wold like to procced to install this new root method. Thanks.
First you must install magisk manager then open option>>patched boot output format change to .img.tar only for odin>>then install patch boot img (you can find boot img in firmware.mobi) wait until done>> move patched boot.img.tar to pc then install it with odin
Done!!! Now you hawe magisk installed on your device
Sorry for my bad english
Hello,
I am attempting to downgrade from Android 8 to 7 on Galaxy S7. When I attempt to flash the old firmware I get the error 'Device 3 - Binary 2'. Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this yet?

Odin will not let you flashback to a previous boot loader version, you have to do it through TWRP. So either flash the nougat firmware with TWRP first or any nougat based rom, then flash nougat via odin which will remove root and TWRP.

Are there any instructions for this?
Will secure apps (Banking etc) work again after removing root?
I was under the impression you could via Odin if OEM unlock was enabled, without needing TWRP or root. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-downgrade-android-oreo-8-0-t3821495
edit: As for banking, if you go root then flash back to stock you should have no issues. Even if you stay root, things like Magisk will hide root status from apps and pass safetynet. Your biggest issue would be the loss of Knox, which voids warranty and breaks some Samsung apps.

It is not possible as per some of the replies to that thread. I spent a few hours playing TWRP yesterday and it was not possible either.

Ok so listen, it can be done as i said but it's not easy. The choice you have of course before attempting this is to just install a android 7 custom ROM? many nougat ROMs are just stock with the bloatware removed and the boot-loader version isn't checked during flash.
Here's another way to go back, i can't guarantee it will work though i haven't tried it on an S7.
Downgrade to an older firmware with an older bootloader even if one keeps the newer bootloader on his device.
So what's how's it done?
Download the firmware file (.tar) which you want to downgrade to and open it with an archiver application (7zip). Extracts all the files to a folder and repacks them again in a .tar file but leaving every file out which ends in .bin (e.g. sboot.bin etc.). This .tar file can now be flashed like any other firmware file via Odin and it should run through it without any problems.
Hope this helps.

How did you root pie?
I have decided to share screenshots
I'm a us user as you can see I have volte working and I got Dolby working .
Make sure you have the latest Oreo bootloader installed this so can down grade to Oreo if I want to.
Do not flash pie modems if you do you will have to flash pie bootloader.
If you have a bootloader example
Xxu3 you need flash ap system and bootloader xxs4.
This not for flashing this build but for flashing pie on Odin
Restore.
Restoring with selected EFS damaged original IMEI.... Without is it ok. Thanks!

I'm rooted so I had to use this canda csc.
For ab+ their no USA build I want have volte.
This csc I flash is done through twrp.
If your stock no root ect and you get what the services you want then go a head and do it.
If you are rooted and want to keep root then I would not.

How do flash it though? I extracted the .zip file but it doesnt have the files to be flashed through Odin. Also I think I should tell you that my phone or rather knoxs tells's me that my phone is rooted but I've already flashed the non-rooted stock rom years ago because I failed when I tried to root my phone before and I don't know how to fix my mistake and gain root. If its not too much to ask, I would like to ask for your help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Why not download and flash firmware updates manually?
For me, official OTA updates are often too late. I want to install an update as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Downloading with Frija does nothing on your device.
Flashing firmware files with Odin will overwrite the corresponding system partitions ... and when flashing another CSC file, you may have to wipe data partition to get the device rebooting into system again.
But as long as you do not flash another CSC file (I always use Home_CSC file to stay on my current CSC), data partition will not be overwritten or wiped.
Concerning root / Magisk IDK. If you have changed something in system partitions for rooting the device, this may be overwritten by flashing the stock Samsung firmware. In this case, you will have to do the needed changed again for rooting the device.
As I am not rooted with Magisk ATM, I am not familiar with the exact steps. I heard about "patching" a system file, but better to ask someone more familiar with rooting with Magisk.
BTW... after flashing stock firmware, will have stock recovery. No more TWRP. If you want/need it back, you will have to flash TWRP recovery again afterwards.

It's called a TWRP retention script.
So, I installed the One ui 5 beta successfully although I am not on Indian region, but I can't live without root. There are too many magisk modules I rely on for daily use. However, since there is no AP file for one ui 5, i can't simply patch it and flash it.
So, what I am asking is if any of you can tell me any methods that might work, even if you haven't tried it.
Here are some of the things I tried so far and failed:
1. Tried patching the one ui 5 update.zip file but error.
2. Tried installing TWRP which worked but after I flash Magisk, it leads to bootloop.
3. Tried installing Pixel Experience recovery to flash magisk but same bootloop.
4. Tried flashing services disabler in TWRP, thinking it would prevent bootloop, but it gets stuck during installation.
So, here are some things I want to try and I want your opinion on whether it would work before trying:
1. Installing one ui 4.1, rooting it with TWRP and then installing the update.zip directly from TWRP.
2. Installing Magisk patched AP for one ui 4.1 and then installing update.zip via stock recovery. (oh wait nvm I tried this and the update.zip didn't install)
Please let me know if there might be a way to install Magisk safely without bootloop in One UI 5.

didn't understand that. Are you root or is your phone root?
I'm on "A525FXXU4CVJB" version and have tried to root using files from HalabTech but did not work.
Stuck in boot loop after flashing some zip files.
Still looking for root for Android 13.
Also there is November update for my country.
this is why you are better off just getting google pixel devices

Use 7-Zip to extract AP and get "boot.img.lz4" file, then extract boot.img.lz4 with 7-zip and you'll get your boot.img file.
