I am the only who experience this tendency? That the one ha UI function makes the navigation buttons at the bottom are to the left?
Often when u put it in the table often the navigation button are very often to the left. A bug? To activate one hand UI you need to use a quite rapid motion.. But obviously one hand UI activate when you put it on the table. I hope this problem is solved In the latest firmware (which is not accessible through official channels for eu devices)
If you shake your hand to the left, the navigation bar automatically adjusts to the left. Same thing goes if u shake it to the right.

I know how the gestures is working to activate one hand GUI, what I am saying you is that it is not working..
In fact.. it is quite unsensitive so when you want to to activate one hand GUI and make the geasture the the left or right it is kind of hard you really need to do a quite rapid and distinct motion. What I am saying is that the one hand GUI is being activated WITHOUT any gesture at all.. when I am putting it on my table.. most likely it does not lie down on the table 100% straight, so what I am saying here this is simply a bug.. the one hand GUI should be activated by a distinct hand gesture not when it is laying on the desk and you pick up the phone. This makes the whole one hand GUI function very frustrating... it would had been a less problem if it had a tendency to move to the right most of the times since 99% of the time you want it to be on the right.. I wish it was possible to disable it moving it to the left at all..since I am not left handed..
Also.. I wonder..is there any 3rd party app where you can get similar one hand function to Note 4 ? where the whole screen is getting minimized to a small window ? since the Mate7 have a bigger screen then note 4.. the need is even bigger for more One hand functions... to handle a 6 inch device... I hope this will improved with Lollipop as well.. it is clear that android is not optimized for bigger devices. One simple example is google play... to push the "my apps" button you cannot reach it with your right thumb.... I think this will be some of the things that they will look at in versions after lollipop..which is to have more menus at the bottom instead of the top..where people will reach it easier...even on big devices. .. if android and apps in general was more optimized for bigger devices.. the drawbacks of big devices which mainly is you can't reach your thumb over the whole device would be a much less problem.. if the most important parts of interfaces in OS and apps is in the "Thumb zone" where most people reach with one hand use even on 6 inch devices. Nexus 6 is 6 inches..so because of that..I think android after lollipop will be a lot more optimized for bigger screens in general.. also the averge screen size is getting bigger.. 5.5 inches is now really common.. but I think 6 inches.. is where it will stop...
Sure if the mate 7 hade 100% body to screen ratio then sure..it could had bigger screen but I would not like a phone with bigger outer measurements then this.. the limits is here for sure.. going over this limit is just stupid..
I understand what you mean, although i have not really tried this one hand function of the mate 7, because i find the solution half-baked in mate 7. In note series (3 & 4 I'm sure), the whole screen is minimized. The current lenovo vibe z2 pro also does the same thing as the note's, which for me is the perfect implementation of the one-hand operation function. Although this function is not a deal breaker for me, cause i still find the mate 7 attractive because of its many other uses.
I don't need the edge functionality of the phone and would just like to use that portion for whatever is on my screen instead. I experimented with Nova launcher and it removed the edge panel...but only part of it. The edge panel is gone but I still see a thin black bar all the way at the right side of the screen remaining. I want to completely use the entire screen of the phone. So is there a way to remove the black bar and maximize my screen real estate? I feel like maybe a custom rom would do that but I don't wanna go that far unless I know it achieves that.
I kinda had the same problem as you . The edge wasn't very important to me . Flashing a custom rom did help me in achieving that . The first rom I tried was RR by micky I it comes with a omni switch so ya can turn on/off the edge functionality . But if ya prefer to be on MM I would recommend noble rom it comes with an edge panel but is invisible for most of the time ; . I personally use n915f with noble rom and Micky's kernel . Hope this helps

Do you get the ENTIRE screen or is there a remaining thin black bar? Nova Launcher got rid of the edge panel and gave me more screen but I'm still left with a thin black bar on the side so I'm not utilizing my entire screen as I wanted. Can you show me a picture of your phone with either of those roms? I don't want to go through the headache of installing it only to find out its like Nova in the end result of a thin black bar leftover. And will those roms work on an at&t Note edge? Thanks for your response
Due to some unknown reasons am unable to upload a screenshot "network error". Could ya please check noble rom thread ( OP : Albe96) under the development section . He has uploaded some screenshots which will give you a better idea . The title says it works for only Fy&G versions but with the right kernel it worked fine for me on 915f . Am not sure if it works on at&t version of edge . Maybe you can post a question under the rom thread sure somebody will help you
Update : I don't have any black bars.

I meant pictures like an actual pic, not screenshot because I wanted to see if the black bar was visible. But its okay, I appreciate the info you provided. I'll take a look at that now but might not risk it because it doesn't sound like its compatible with the at&t Note Edge.
it would be nice to use the entire screen to display everything

Do you know what the screen size is without the edge panel? Like say I'm using a web browser or some other app and the edge panel is gone now, how big is the display with the edge panel out? 5.4, 5.5 or 5.6 inches? And how big is everything total with the edge panel included?
dont think its possible ,its two separated screens ?
No it's definitely one screen.
I'm in the same situation. Couldn't get the Noble ROM working on my F device unfortunately. I uninstalled the Cocktailbar service to get rid of the edge panel (sped up the device quite a bit BTW). Nova wallpaper covers the entire screen now but the display of the icons gets trimmed off when scrolling.
A Note compatible application will show under an app that gets clipped short and if you window an application, you can drag it to cover the curved portion of the screen so on a system level, it is possible to utilise the entire screen.
There must be a configuration setting somewhere that defines the application rendering area. As a relative Android newbie, does anyone know where such a setting may be found?

Thanks for your response to my post. Even after all this time I'm still trying to get this phone to utilize the entire screen. I'm not sure how you uninstalled Cocktailbar service because I didn't get an option to do so. I have Nova launcher which did get rid of the edge panel but there's still a thin black line on the side of the phone. When the edge panel exists, it utilizes the entire screen but when I remove it by using Nova launcher, I lose the edge panel but I still can't maximize my screen usage because of the thin black bar left on the side. This is so frustrating.
if you dial the service mode , you can test both screen separately , main panel and edge panel , not sure if it one screen at all , thats why note edge is the only curve screen that works ?
I used Uninstall which you can get from the play store. Requires root access, really speeds up the phone when you remove it.
I found a hacky way to get the screen to extend nearly all the way to the edge by dropping the DPI of android system process to 50 and then overriding the DPI of everything else to the normal 640. System notifications are stupidly small and unusable though as well as any edge apps like the camera, see attached. Best option is to bite the bullet and get a Note 4 ROM working I think.
Weird I find the edge screen much more useful without the specialist software. Fast scrolling with a full screen is lovely on the edge bit.
Download and flash a AOSP Rom or Note 4 Rom and then I'd recommend Total Launcher
I'm using MRU Widget as my homescreens softkey row.

Yeah, eventually my tinkering made my phone go bang so I had to reflash. Bit of a pain but can't recommend it high enough. I went for the ROM below, a Note 7 adaption and it's awesome. Have to tinker a bit to get finger prints working but it's straight forward enough.

Hi, I flashed a Note 4 ROM on my Note Edge yesterday, only to find the entire screen worked as a whole! But an issue showed up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/camera-app-interfaces-malposition-issue-t3960314
So, I know this title seems odd; I changed the resolution of my Phone with ADB to maybe get a 18:9 screen ratio but with more sharp edges since I really dislike how the 7 Pro has such round edges that just look terrible in some app's overlay, bc they weren't built for that in mind.
however, I found out that that won't help me with my problem. I thought the Screen Corners were just a hardware thing, but it turns out its actually on software as well. Does someone know how to potentially remove these? (it will probably not have these software added notches in custom roms, but i'd prefer using the default/openbeta rom from oneplus directly)
try this. the instructions are for a google pixel 3, but hopefully those settings exist for the oneplus.
disable rounded screen corners on pixel 3

thanks for the answer, it doesnt work like that for the oneplus 7 pro, but i will look into stuff like this and reply again if i found out how to do it <3
Not sure what you expect to accomplish. The rounded corners are the physical edge of the display. You can see this in TWRP or any non-black boot animation.

as i said i wanted to reduce the vertical size of the screen and disable the software rounded corners. i only found out that there are software edges BECAUSE i changed the resolution of the display via adb.
Hello, are you talking about this broken corners thing ? Because whenever I install a custom ROM, the corners are very pixelated, which doesn't happen in Oxygen OS. Also, still concerning OOS, I tried to modify the overlay with the adb overscan thing and I was able see the rounded overlay moving, so it's definitely related to the software.
Also I managed to get a picture of the same problem on a OnePlus 6T. You can clearly see the pixelated corners.
I truly hate how there isnt an option for this. You can use "adb settings put secure sysui_rounded_size X" on Android 9, but not on Android 10. There doesnt seem to be a way to do it. I've used a Substratum theme (Curve) to temporarily (for a second) disable the rounded corner overlay but it doesnt stick, and there is nothing I've found over 3 days of intense searching for hours and hours. Custom ROMS have the option (Havoc 3.1 has a rounded-corner radius slider setting but changing it has no effect, even after rebooting).
Please tell me there is something someone has come up with. Its so annoying to have an ugly af rounded corner. I am using adb to reduce the display height to create a "software bezel" and want to reduce the rounded corner radius so it looks much less rounded. I can do it on Android 9, but the nav bar doesnt work well on it, and much prefer Android 10.
To ellaborate, the "adb settings put secure sysui_rounded_size X" setting DOES work properly on OOS, but not on anything beyond Android 9. You likely wont notice on Android 9 unless you set the display height smaller than what stock is. "adb shell wm size 1440x2990" is the best size I can say that fits well with sysui_rounded_size of 25 or 30.
Is there an update to this?
have anyone solved the prob?
I know you said something about wanting to be on OOS, but I've found a setting on Resurrection Remix that allows you to change the size of the rounded corners.
I got back on this topic today.
I got it working by using apktool on the ODMOverlay-OPSystemUI.apk and removing the pathData from rounded_bottom.xml and rounded_top.xml. then used rootbrowser to overwrite the original. I assume this could be done using a magisk module, but i couldn't get it to work properly.

That app seems specific to OnePlus devices. Have you had any success with making a Magisk module yet? And, could that work on other devices also? My device is Poco X3 Karna running AICP (Android 12.1) rom. I am very much interested in this; I prefer 'rectangular' screenshots. Please reply. Thanks.

Honestly the most disappointing os upgrade ive ever seen. Reminds me why i dont use an lg as a daily driver any more.
If nothing else, the new Android 11 upgrade does enable Stand-Alone 5G (per the T-Mobile website). That, in itself, is probably worth the upgrade!

No upgrade here in Europe for Sim free.
It is available for AT&T as well. I had to manually check for updates, then it started downloading. It didn't tell me how large the update was or any changes, so I had no idea if it was the Android 11 update or a security update until it finished the update.
I've ran the update and can confirm it is Android 11.
A few things I've immediately noticed based off of MY experiences on Android 10,
The performance was laggy on first boot (expected after a software upgrade), but has since smoothed out and seems overall faster than Android 10, but that could just be due to the improved gesture navigation; more on that below.
The gesture navigation controls are much more reliable, animations are smoother, and functionality less glitchy.
This improvement is very noticeable when quick switching apps by swiping left/right on the gesture bar:
Sometimes it would skip 2 apps back and jump forward to the correct (previous) app
Animate to the previous app but snap back to the current app
Simply not register the gesture at all
I haven't experienced any of these again yet.
The recent apps screen scrolls MUCH smoother as well.
Speaking of gesture controls, it now "floats" above the rest of the apps similar to iOS instead of having it's own dedicated nav bar and the gesture "pill" itself (not really a pill on this phone lol) is slightly bigger. You can see the difference in my first 2 screenshots
EDIT: The gesture pill still has it's own bar at the bottom, but it appears that its background is able to color match with the opened app (similar to the notification bar) which makes it look like it's sitting on top of the opened app.
The notification shade has a UI update. Looks better IMO.
If you use the stock LG launcher, the swipe down search tool loads faster, but there's still a noticeable delay before you can type anything
You can also change the "accent" color. My accent color is blue in my first screenshot, but it changed to green after the 11 update. You can change the color in the settings.
Taking screenshots is instant. No more holding down the key combo for a second.
There's emoji updates
There is a minor update to the blank contact image (see previous screenshot).
I saw some changelogs online that mentioned some camera app UI updates...it doesn't look any different to me??
And of course the FB Messenger style chat bubbles are now supported for other apps including the stock LG Messaging app.
Andoird 11 update has been horrible. Battery that prior to update lasted all day, now lasts 5-6 hours, phone runs hot, and WiFi AND 5G symbols are BOTH always on.
This might be the end of the line for me with LG.
Any news about the Canadian version?
I'm on AT&T and updated to Android 11 earlier this week. It resulted in a black screen soft-brick. I could still see the touches (from dev mode) where fingers tapped the screen. And if I held down the Power button, I'd see the typical Power Down / Restart / Etc. options, and tapping on them would generate the appropriate responses. But in all other instances, it was just a black screen. I figured my HEAVY de-bloating of Android 10 when I first got the phone caused something to break.
So I went ahead and did a full factory restore using recovery/safe mode and set it up as a new phone, and haven't had any serious issues since. I went ahead and got almost everything (minus Fluid Navigation Gestures, RIP) working the way I wanted, and embarked on another HEAVY de-bloating process. Seems like I took things too far, because, upon my next reboot, I was in the exact same black screen soft-brick state I mentioned above.
Another factory reset. Another session of restoring my apps, launcher, settings, and customizations. This time, I just used Package Disabler Pro for LG from the Google Play Store to perform some more restrained bloatware disabling, and everything's been pretty great. For Android 10 and the first attempt at de-bloating Android 11, I was using ADB commands to "uninstall" dozens upon dozens of system apps. Battery life is not quite as good as it was with my heavily de-bloated Android 10 environment, but I didn't expect it to be, and I'm not going to risk messing this all up again.
My only complaint is that stock AOD (and Sidelight Notifications) don't seem to be working properly, no matter how I configure them in Settings. I'm not sure what's causing the issue, but I actually developed this problem just a few days BEFORE the AT&T OTA landed, and it's persisted through a full Android point upgrade and two factory resets, so I imagine there's a conflict somewhere. Maybe with Fluid Simulation - Trippy Stress Reliever (my live wallpaper app of choice), Energy Bar, or Nova Launcher. I haven't been able to pinpoint it yet, but since it predates the Android 11 OTA by a few days, there must be another cause.
I do miss Fluid Navigation Gestures, but I'm happy to report that the new Android 11 gestures are way better than Android 10's. Not quite as customized as I had FNG, but I've adapted. Until/unless someone figures out how to hide the navigation bar without root, LG's gestures it is, I guess.
First thing I noticed was that I can now set a minimum brightness from the navigation bar .... This is a huge improvement as before the brightness would go to zero in a dark room... Now I can choose how low I want it to go and still automatically increase when needed ..
Finally SIM free in Europe got the Android 11 update.

There is a thread on reddit saying that this is the result of fingerprint locking. Try with pin unlock instead and see if battery life improves.

Hi people, am currently waiting for bootloader unlock, am trying to sort things out and see how am gonna use my new rooted phone Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (got it as gift), well phone is great, but am coming from old era where rounded corners and notch was not a thing, i still prefeer screens with rectangle shape, and am willing to sacriface lower portion of screen up to ending of rounded corner and same above till the camera module, so i can have nice rectangular screen
Now my question is how to?
How to change screen size? (how to measure where to start and end)
If by software rounded corners still exist how to remove them?
Am planing to flash xiaomi.eu rom (am considering Ressurection Remix) and magisk root.
Thank you great people and community.
It's simple, and can be done without rooting, connect with ADB.
So your device has 1080x2400 resolution, you'll have to lower numbers from the height (2400) in order to get a rectangular display.
Play with numbers till you get it right, commands to use:
adb shell
wm size 1080x2200

Thank you very much, i will check it out once i got bootloader unlock since am waiting 168h on Xiaomi devices, i will not fiddle with anything so i dont mess something up
And about software rounding, since when in settings i choose option to hide notch and move status bar down, it hides a notch and its completley disabled part of screen, but it still gets a rounded corners by software, i will try this with option dont hide anything maybe then under hardware display is rectangular, but you never know i will let you know , but if it is software how can i find it on my device, since i googled and found something for Pixel devices, and its all diffrent, thank you alot.
And what about DPI , or resolution after that change, should i keep everything as it is

Hiding notch ain't that effective, and you lose some of your screen doing so.
Your screen is a rounded AMOLED, that's hardware, it also has software roundness in order to be compatible with your screen. It's not that hard to disable roundness, for hardware, you can overcome it by "wm size", and you can change DPI by: "wm density xxx" to your desired value.
The software overcoming needs APK editing, so you need a PC/Laptop. You need to edit framework-res.apk (and maybe SystemUI.apk). There's an app that allows you to edit framework-res.apk values directly, you may want to check it:
Privset.

Thank you, its actually LCD, on Redmi note 9 pro, Thank you for commands above, when i screenshot something it appears rectangle, so in theory it should work and rounded edges should not be there
Well for that APK stuff, does installing custom ROM help in that? I was thinking about RR rom,
Also, i dont mind losing screen size, and for me hiding notch is a must doing it this way, personally i hate it, i hate rounded edges, i just hate it my heart hurts when i see it, i got this phone as gift so i need to appreciate it i cant sell/replace it that way its kinda disrespectful

Oh sorry, I assumed it being a budget killer to offer an AMOLED display similar to RN10.
Well .. having LCD makes it a bit different, as the parts you cut off from your display will keep lightening up, that's how LCD displays work.
Honestly, you'll hate it more, it'll be like watching a long video on YouTube without fullscreen mode.
Strange tradition you've got right there, here, we're more understanding, if someone gifted you a phone, it won't matter if you sold it or replaced it, what matters is the feelings you've grown out of his gift.
About the APK stuff, it can be done on any ROM, but it's more stable on AOSP-based ROMs like RR, Havoc, PE, ...
An easy way to achieve your goal would be to use adb wm size, and reduce height. (There's another thing to do, adjust the new touch positions; cause your phone will keep using old positions, so if you're using gestures, it won't work that simple, till you recalculate it. (Easy to solve).

Okay, so a year ago, I had Galaxy S7 that got some water issues, so the bottom part of screen wasn't working, and I was using on-screen navigation bar, so I used ADB wm commands to make the phone usable until it dries up.
What I did was, reducing screen height up to the usable part. Then, I used: adb wm overscan command.
This command tells the system where is the screen end, whether at top, bottom, right, or left. So if your bottom screen is reduced by 2 cm, you'll have to tell your system about that, so that it don't assume it's still at the actual hardware values.
The command uses numbered values separated by commas like this (original values):
wm overscan 0,0,0,0
The numbers are organised LEFT,TOP,RIGHT,BOTTOM
You can use minus too, I honestly don't remember which numbers were suitable for my case, you'll have to check it on your own (won't take over 10 minutes). Only change TOP & BOTTOM values.
Who knows, maybe you won't need to do this anymore, perhaps Android 11's AI does that automatically whenever changing screen resolution.
