Asus Transformer tf101 - Trying to install a Custom ROM - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Hardware: Original ASUS Transformer tf101
OS: Latest official ROM / update (Android 4.0.3)
Trying to make this thing usable again, which it really isn't in its current state.
It's been incredibly frustrating and confusing even getting this far (mostly because being an absolut noob (somewhat experienced Linux Admin, but no idea about Android, ROMs and Rooting) and also because the tf101 is obviously antiquated), but somehow I managed to both root the device (or at least the Root Checker App tells me so) and install a custom recovery (CWM) - but now I'm stuck because CWM won't let me mount anything containing the ROM I want to install (KatKiss 6.0, seems to be the newest available; not great, but better than 4).
So I tried installing TWRP instead of CWM - but I really don't know how. There are several ROM utilities that should be able to do this, but the only one that has been working so far was ROM Manager, which I used to install the currently active CWM. The TWRP App keeps telling me that it can't find the recovery partition, which I'm guessing is happening because it's looking for the original recovery and not CWM?

New owner

I just picked up a used TF101 and have been reading the threads learning more about my new ( used ) toy.
The tablet just recently updated itself to ICS 4.0.3 with Kernel 2.6.39.4 & 9..2.1.27 and now I would like to root the device and look at the possibility of loading new roms etc.
I have read the forum until my eyes hurt. Is there someone that can point me at the correct thread to root my device safely?
Thanks

To get root & custom recovery, the following methods are reported to be working with the latest Asus ROM:

I have personally used the first method about a month ago, no problem with my tf101 and the latest ROM (9.2.1.27)

I've can also vouch for the first method on TF101G with latest ICS ( [TOOL]PERI-0.4 One click root+recovery/fix-bootloops+soft-bricks ALL Devices V0.4). Just install it on the PC, run the .BAT file and follow the instructions to root and install Custom Recovery on the Transformer.
The only issue I've had is that its custom Recovery won't seem flash the ASUS stock ROM for some reason. So what I do now is use the above tool to get root and Custom Recovery, then use that to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery v6.0.1.4 NoTouch Hybrid from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855686 - click the Download link and get the cwm-6.0.1.4-notouch-hybrid.zip file (apparently the Touch version is currently broken).
From CWM recovery you should be able to flash any custom ROM and kernel etc., and also return to stock by flashing the ASUS stock ROM from their download site (make sure you select the right one for your model and unzip it first - for some reason they put the zip ROM inside another zip).
If you do return to stock, don't forget you'll also lose root and custom recovery so you'll need to start over.
Good luck!

[Q] 4.0.3 to 4.2 Upgrade Clarification

So I've been running the stock 4.0.3 Android on my TF300T for a very long time. at one point Idownloaded the asus provided unlocking tool, unlocked the device and installed CWM 5.5 and IIRC rooted the device in prep to run a custom ROM. I never got around to doing this but now I am ready to get this thing updated to the latest firmware ASUS provides ( V10.6.1.15.3)
There seems to be a mess of issues with the 4.2 bootloaders and such. So being a complete newbie to the world of Android I want to make sure I do not brick my TF300T or ruin it in any way.
As I understand... I can simply download the firmware. Unzip the .zip file to my SD card, boot into the currently installed CWM, install the new 4.2 update and all I will need to do in install an updated recovery for 4.2 afterwards correct?
EDIT: My plan is to use This guide >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982 << I just want clarification that I can update to the TeamWin recovery after installing 4.2

Make sure you look into nvflash before you go updating to later firmwares because once you leave ICS you'll lose the option. Im not sure how many people here have access to nvflash because they brought their tf300t with JB pre-installed and dont have the chance to use nvflash as the exploit used is patched. But i was lucky and and took advantage of it while i was still on ICS, i would have bricked my tf300t 10 times over if it wernt for nvflash.
It makes your tf300t unbrickable, and lets you flash back to 4.0.1 bootloader if you have issues with 4.2:good:
And to answer your question yes you can update the 4.2 version of twrp AFTER the update with fastboot

New User with unlocked device looking for help

I recently bought a TF300t second hand and I really need some help! Some years back I was playing around with custom roms on Android devices but im very out of touch.
I would like to install one of the more recent roms on this device. Any suggestion here appreciated.
The device has already been rooted and has TWRP v2.6.3.1 installed. I understand that I need to upgrade this to 2.8. to install the latest roms but im having issues doing that. For a start im unsure how to find out if I have the latest Bootloader 4.2
I really dont want to brick this device!
I tried using ADB to update TWRP but the usb connection never seemed to find my device in the right mode.
The device is currently running Android 4.2.1
Custom ROM CROMi-Xenogenesis 5.4 - 10.6.127.5 WW ODEX.
Any help and advice really appreciated )

Android 4.2.1 is newest official.
10.6..... is bootloader version - newest there is.
flashing recovery and/or ROM will not overwrite bootloader - it stays the same.
You can go to twrp official website and get 2.8.0.1-4.2 blob to flash (unless your target rom states different version needed - see 1st post of yout target thread) - I got it from there - flashed KatKiss using it.
ADB - when android is running.
fastboot - on bootloader screen (booted with voldown+power - RCK / android / wipe data icons) - used to flash twrp blob

Ok got it all fixed now. Thanks!
So, not to hijack, but I'm actually in a similar boat. I'm currently rooted and unlocked on 4.1.1 TWRP 2.3.3.0 and am looking to flash the new 5.0 Rom.
Does anyone have a handy guide on what I should do? Do I just need to flash a 4.4 compatible TWRP version, then flash the ROM? Would like to avoid bricking my tablet.

Yes here you are ....
Get the SKU from your bootloader screen .....
Then go to the Asus website and get the firmware for your SKU ending in 27.5 ...
Then unpack the zip and there will be another zip unzip it you will find a file called blob ....
Flash this blob from fastboot ...

Please Help [Q] Asus TF300T TWRP and rom flashing

I have a Asus TF300T that I had BakedBeans on, until I tried to flash to KatKiss. I tried this on TWRP 2.6.0.0 (current version of TWRP installed on my tablet) I saw that it was unable to flash, so I researched and I was told I need the newest version of TWRP to install the KatKiss rom.
Since I have no OS on the tablet (wiped when I tried to install KatKiss), and when I plug my tablet to my pc I get "unrecognized usb device", I am limited to using the external card to do any modifications to the tablet.
I went and got the newest version of TWRP and tried to install it through the TWRP manager, but it says "select zip to install" and the file is a .blob (I don't know how to update TWRP through the main menu I guess)
I have no idea what I should do. I would like a new rom for my tablet, but I will be ok with reverting back to an older rom if that is not possible.
using bootloader version 10.4.2.20-20121228 please help
I managed to find an old version of BakedBeans and installed it, but I can't figure out a way to update do the newest version of TWRP without using the PC USB method, help please.

Question - Flashing StockOTA rom/Modded Stock rom on Kill Switch K1 Wifi Tablet

My tablet currently has TWRP (latest version from the StockOTA tutorial on the forums) installed as well as a custom rom (CyanogenMod) installed on to the tablet. I'm looking to restore Stock or an optimized Stock rom onto the kill switch wifi K1 tablet, but the problem is I can't find the latest available OTA download? Is it the Recovery OS on NVIDIA's site?
Are these the right steps to have me running the proper setup?
Boot TWRP Recovery
Flash NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 Recovery OS Image (5.1.0)
Flash TWRP Custom Recovery (Supposedly this gets erased in the process from what I've read on the forums)
Flash 'nomoreota.zip'
Flash 'SuperSU' from the stockOTA thread
Delete some sort of (Nvidia or Stock)OTA.apk file in the system partition
If anyone has any suggestions or tips, please help if you don't mind. I've read through a couple threads here, and honestly, I'm pretty lost...I just think that my current rom is lacking in performance, but I don't want the device to brick.
