"an error has occurred while updating the device software.
Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software"
for 2 seconds then reboots to the same error message.
tried every other special keys nothing happens
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yXQUFrEWg4&vl=en-GB ??

For future reference, when flashing via Odin, make sure you have a good cable that makes a good connection with your device, it can't be a cable that is loose or is tricky about getting it to keep a consistent connection. Also, when flashing the device, do not touch or move the device and do not disturb the surface that it is resting on. These things can cause the device to disconnect during flashing, if that happens, that is what causes the issue that you are having.
Samsung devices can still be flashed via Odin while it is booted into the "encountered an issue" screen. The problem you are going to have is getting the device to stay on the "encountered an issue" screen long enough to allow Odin to completely flash the device.

I have the same problem, can some1 help?
I try using kies to fix the problem but the gt-p3110 is not supported when u go to Firmware upgrade and initilazation, put in the serial number from the back of your battery, then the tablet model and when u click ok is telling you that your model is not supported.
Can some1 tell me how to do it using Odin , even with complete wipe, or stock ROM.
Thx and please reply
"Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue..." = that´s the black screen of death. Download mode is enabled in this situation automaticly, no need to boot into downloadmode.
Uninstall Kies first! Maybe that´s why Odin failed! Maybe some Kies prozess running in the background.
Start Odin as Administrator,
Connect your tabelt to your PC (yes, with black screen of death!) - Odin will show "Added"
Now flash a Stockrom for your device
Safed your Tab
i did that with odin, untill it show'd pass but when i turn it on is the same
i loaded the file in the pda section, auto reboot and f.reset time boxes were checked
i used this http://www.hotfile.com/dl/182607797/b61e3af/P3110XXCLK7_P3110OXACLK7_BTU.zip.html from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35095146 , the uk link
if u have a working method can you please tell me and live a link and how to do it?
thanks and please reply
maybe bad download? redownload a rom for your deivce e.g. from www.samsung-updates.com
Just did that , but is the same, I use Odin 3.07
Any more ideas?
Thanks
I notice this thread has been dead for some time. However, I am also in search of a possible solution to this as a colleague of mine passed one of these tablets on to me in the hope I could get some use out of it. It is in the same state as the previous posters claim, 'firmware encountered a problem.....'. Obviously I'm in a different situation as I did not buy this thing with my own money, not will I lose out if it is beyond repair. But I'm interested to solve this problem none the less.
So, so far I have attempted to flash a philztouch recovery using Odin which was unsuccessful and I have also tried to flash several compatible ROMs. All of which have failed, Odin confirming each time that the attempts were unsuccessful. I have read that the tablet in this state auto unlocks the bootloader, so I have ruled out that as a sticking point. I have read that flashing ROMs potentially won't work either as the corruption of the firmware is seated too deeply for this to have any effect. I know a possible solution is to try flash a new kernel as this goes a lot deeper, but this can be risky, however, like I mentioned above is not an issue for me as I have nothing to lose. Does anyone have any pointers on how to flash a new kernel? Surely there is a way to remove the corrupted firmware completely? I have to admit this is beyond the realm of anything I have used Odin for in the past. Also, I am more than aware some of my understanding may be incorrect so feel free to correct me. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just to point me in the right direction or towards some reference material which could shed some light on this particular problem.
Thanks in advance.
Hello guys.
My tab (GT-P3100) have been facing some problems lately.
Before this, my tab cannot be started up for some times although it is fully charged.
Last week, I managed to boot it up and then formatted the tab via "restore factory setting" while the tab is on.
Then, I intended to load custom rom into the tab. However all pc, usb, driver, and kies version cannot help me as the tab won't be recognized. It either not showing up entirely or it simply show an error.
Then, I figured that I must format the phone via recovery mode to get the usb working again.
Now is where this problem happened. While formatting, the system message is only stuck at "formatting cache".
It then took a long time until it turned off on its own. This is when the phone cannot be started.
Initially, I can still boot it up until the "samsung galaxy" screen or in download mode. This need to be done by charging it just for a short minute until the battery charging icon shows up. If the battery icon doesn't show up, the phone cannot be started by any means. Then, the boot screen cease to show up but the download mode can still be accessed. Now, the download mode cannot be accessed as well. Lastly, the batter icon won't even show up.
So this lead to my question, what is wrong with my tab. Is is because of corrupted OS, recovery mode. Or perharps faulty battery. Can it be solved by jtag?

So you aren't able to install any custom recovery neither being able to get your tab detected so I think you should try heidmall

Hello
I have downloaded the heimdall zip. However, the zadig.exe cannot find any samsung devices. I have followed the instruction where I have to uninstall kies and other usb drivers. but still no luck.
My ROM is still stock rom. And I can't install cwm because my tab can never be discovered..

i think this must be the fault in the os..
if you are lucky to go to the download mode i think you can solve it using odin.
go to sam mobile site and download the firmware for your device.
then install odin app in your pc
(this is my 5th post so i cannot add links)
now while in download mode connect your device to pc.
now open odin in your pc.
make sure you dont uncheck/check anything new in the app
now select PDA and browse the firmware you downloaded and click start.
this may take some time, and your device might reboot several times.
now once you are done there are slight chances for getting stuck in the bootlogo.
in this case you can go to recovery and do a factory reset. then you are all set to go.
NOTE:Charge your device fully before doing this process.
I think this might help you. if still any problem occurs -please notice me.

Thanks for taking your time to answer this. Actually, the tab cannot be detected on every pc I have used (3 different pc up to now). Even with drivers and Kies. Do you think it's a problem on the charger port?

After extensive research for weeks, I finally knew the problem! Its actually an emmc brick bug!
The symptoms are all the same. My tab started to brick after I formatted in recovery. Causing no booting, and only download mode and cannot be detected by PC. The funny thing is, the emmc chip have been replaced before by the previous owner I bought the tab from. ONLY FOR THE CHIP TO BE AN INSANE CHIP AGAIN.
Remember folks, the symptoms are:
Cannot boot, sometime boot only on logo. very rare though.
Can only access download mode but cannot be detected by PC. Even if it can, the odin flash will stuck half way.
Can be charged.
How to solve:
I don't know ****
I was recently trying to Flash Marshmallow onto my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. Model # SM-T713 Everything was going smoothly until the cable disconnected the device in the middle of the flash! Now my tablet is stuck in the download mode screen, with a progress bar that is painfully close to finished, but not quite, frozen on the same level. And Odin is still open, after it happened it obviously read "Failed" on the progress box above the port #.
So I hit the "Reset" and "Start" buttons again, respectively. But every time I do that, it gets stuck on "Setup Connection" ... one time it got as far as "boot.img" but then froze again.
I'm really scared that because of a touchy cord, I may have just ruined a 300 dollar tablet that I just bought... Someone please help! I don't want to turn off or restart the computer or the tablet until this issue is resolved, for fear of bricking it further...
Did I screw it up completely? It was going so well.... (((
Hi!
Don't worry it also happened to me the first time I flashed a new firmware (my luck xD)
The only thing you have to do is unplug, force shutdown your device, and power it again. It will show you a screen to tell you that something is wrong (A phone plugged to a computer with a warning triangle if I correctly remember...)
In fact you still in Download mode. You just have to retry the flashing operation and THIS TIME BE CAREFUL WITH THE CABLE....

Powering down then booting to download again then flashing again should work fine.
But if the faulty flash corrupts boot and then prevents booting to download mode or the "encountered a problem" screen with the phone, triangle and PC, you'll be in a more difficult situation.

I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS WHERE EVERYONE CAN SHARE
I was trying to shift my S10e from Italian firmware to Dutch firmware (being where I live), using Odin failed. Now I am stuck in the "An error has occurred ... Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." screen, but I never used it to make a backup so that's not useful. Everything I have tried at this point either seems to do nothing, or brings me back to this same screen.
"Vol-Down & Bixby" which I used to get to download doesn't do anything at all.
"Vol-Down & Power" which got me here from recovery just turns off the screen and then it comes back here.
Trying "Vol-Down & Power" and trying to switch to "Vol-Down & Bixby" while the screen is off (not easy) just comes back here.
And the screen doesn't turn off for more than a few seconds, regardless of what I do.
Any suggestions? Thanks much.

AFAIK the device still is in download mode when showing this error message, so you should be able to connect the device to your PC and use Odin to re-flash the full firmware. Odin should show that the device is connected when you plug USB.
Good luck and please let me know if it worked.
@hainguyenthao replied to me in PM, and got me sorted out. Many thanks there.
He restarted the phone into to download mode over remote USB connection, then Odin did the job - off of a different laptop that wasn't being flakey with the USB connection (no idea why the original machine was being flakey, but my bad that I didn't take measures to mitigate first, given the potential issues.

Hey guys!
So basically I will start from the top:
1. Device is Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite (SM-N770F) (F/DS if it matters really)
What happened is:
I've wanted to install Android 11 update on my phone - downloaded SamFirm app, searched for correct firmware for my region (I've made sure to select appropriate device and region).
Then I've downloaded Odin (3.14.1), loaded all files correctly - no errors or anything, started the process in Odin and after some time I got an error on the phone - Custom Binary(SUPER) Blocked By OEM Lock.
Now what happens is that I can't do literally anything with my device - it's turned on constantly on the same screen, on the top I can see the above error in red font, while on the center of the screen there is message "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." - which I of course did, but Smart Switch doesn't even see the device or anything.
I can't turn off the device - while I press power and volume down button, it just goes black for a moment and comes right back up on the same screen no matter what.
Although, I think it's in downloading mode - Odin still sees it correctly (when I plug it in or out I can see changes in Odins screen).
Tried downloading older versions through SamFirm, other versions of Odin, other USB in computer, other cable - no luck at all.
Did I fully bricked the device? Or is it just soft bricked? Is there anything I can do now? Can Samsung center help me? I've tried chatting with them but they just sent me to their facility.
I'd do literally anything to fix this. Please help me, I'm desperate.
If you can get into recovery, i would try factory reset there. Then go to downloadmode and try complete new flash of newest version with csc (not home_csc). But im not sure, wether it is possible to flash with odin if bootloader is not unlocked in this new samsungs. I allways used odin with unlocked bootloader.
can't get into recovery - only thing I see is the above mentioned screen and there is 0 possibility of going anywhere else

I experienced similar situation, but in my case, even my phone stuck in download mode screen, ODIN did not detect my phone, even PC wasn't response when plug in USB cable. As same as you say, when I tried to power off, it was power on itself and "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software" message appear on screen.
Then I tried to enter download mode again in download mode screen, by pressing power off, and after screen go black press immediately volume up+down. After that phone enter the download mode screen (again), it was looks like the same, but this time I was able to install firmware. Actually I really dont understand why this method work but you can give a try.
Unfortunately, still no luck.
But I've thought about other thing. Do you think it's possible to use .PIT file and re-partition option in Odin?
From what I've read everywhere this will wipe all partition data (so basically it should wipe every single thing) from the device, so it should be possible to overcome this oem lock, shouldn't it? Or will I just brick the device even further? I'm kinda desperate here as the phone is about 2-3 months so it's as brand new...
Edit: I think I've found another issue here. My device model is SM-N770F/DS so it's a Dual Sim model, while everywhere I only see firmware for SM-N770F so without dual sim. May it cause problems as well? How about the above option with flashin firmware with pit file and wiping partitions?
If you have figured it out by now good for you. If not, that emergency screen you see is nothing to fear. You can flash firmware with Odin from that screen...no worries your not bricked. Just do as you would if the device were in download mode..flash away.
Was your bootloader unlocked?
