Request for Android Go for the LG V20 - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Would it be possible to get a rom for the V20 of Android Go ? I think this would extend the life of this phone a few more years. Would love to hear your ideas about this . THX

If I'm not mistaken, Android Go is a bit of optimizations in the build prop, plus some low level optimizations (Added while building the rom). Also take into account some functionality is turned off (Android wear Compatibility is one of the things that bugged me). Search around for the "Low-RAM Property Patcher", it has most of the optimizations that can be toggled.

[Q] subpixel smoothing in android

Hi people.
I have a Samsung Galaxy (with AMOLED but I don't think it's got the Pentile display system) and (since today) an LG P500 Optimus One.
The Galaxy is running a GAOSP nightly (which is based on CyanogenMod), and the P500 is running the default software.
I can't currently make screenshots (if I know how to do this, I'll update this post), but while I'm very happy with the P500's performance next to the anemic, memory starved Galaxy (GAOSP optimizations are good but insufficient to remedy the lack of memory), font rendering on the P500 is not good (it reminds me of linux 5 years ago: there seems to be some anti aliasing going on, but I'm quite sure there's no subpixel smoothing going on.
Since the two displays have the exact same resolution, I'd expect fonts (at least in the UI itself) to be rendered similarly but they obviously aren't.
Can someone enlighten me as to what's needed to encourage Android to enable subpixel smoothing on fonts? Is it in the kernel (and out of my immediate reach), or in a config file somewhere I can edit (if I get root on this nice little phone)?
Nobody?
I've read a bit about fonts in Android, and it seems Android uses Freetype, but I haven't found out how Freetype can be tweaked (config files, copy/paste a compiled file from another device, or really needs to be compiled in from scratch)

new binder driver helps your phone run smoother

Hi guys,
I've written a completely new Android binder driver (for IPC), which is targeted to solve some fundamental issues in the existing driver. One main improvement is to make concurrent IPC calls possible. Some background info can be found in my earlier post on Android kernel group:
http: slash slash groups.google.com/group/android-kernel/browse_thread/thread/c57874670e4decb1
(oops external urls are not allowed for new users
There weren't many people interested due to low volume of the group. Now that I have completed the first version, which is back compatible with the existing driver, and fixed a few bugs. I've tested on the ICS emulator and my phone U8150 Froyo. It seems to be running quite well, but I want to see how it runs on other Android devices while I'm getting my new phone. Test results, bug/issue reports, and of course community comments will be very welcomed, which are important for me to determine how the code should further move on.
Although not proven, I'm expecting not only those dual core phones, but single core ones will get an overall smoother response in various parts of the system.
Okay if this still somehow interests you, you can find my project on github
https: slash slash github.com/rong1129/android-binder-ipc
and just dive into the release directory, use the latest version (0.4 so far) to patch your kernel source tree, then upload the new kernel image to your device and see whether it works for you.
Note this is still an early release and has very limited tests so far. Please make sure you understand the risk before you hack your phone and always back up everything before you started. As other disclaims go, I'm not responsible for any damage may be caused by or related to using or in the process of using the driver
Lastly, happy hacking!
Cheers,
Rong

Hi Rong,
thank you so much
our phones, tablets, etc.
can't have too much smoothness
I hope that I'll find some time within the next weeks to also give this a test on the Xoom and see whether it works (with ICS; Team Eos kernel)
there at least seem to be issues with ICS on the SGS (galaxys s1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23937103&postcount=2502
I found this thread . Is this driver the same on all android devices and roms? Or do you have to mod it for every single device/rom?

Thanks for your work we were expecting. Installed the new rom L_OS 14.1 without difficulty using "TWRP-3.0.2-20161108-trunk.img" + open_gapps-arm64-7.1-pico-20170210.zip + SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip. so far also works updating of installed apps after a thorough tour will let you know any bugs.
Thanks again and good work.
This afternoon I installed the new ROM.
@ottmi first thank you, a job well done. the first impression is really good, I believe that from this foundation will do a wonderful job.
bug:
- The flashlight does not work.
- Some animations are jerky.
Considerations:
The general flow is good, Wi-Fi reception OK
GPS OK
Camera improvements, noisy photos. The 8 megapixel resolution is not selectable.
Battery: I do not know, it takes time to understand.
Awesome first release! Was this a lot of work to get to this stage, @ottmi?
Looking forward to the next build with currently reported bugs addressed, which is when I'll jump into the testing.
Martin
@ottmi
after using for a couple of days the first version of the Rom L_OS 14.1 I consider still to be improved especially the battery life, the management of the status bar and especially the lack of advanced configurations. All this by referring to the Rom "RR-N-v5.8.0-20170115-peach" I have used for nearly a month without any problems and with several customization options although 32Bit. It would be interesting on your part to verify the basis of http://www.resurrectionremix.com/ development for our Trunk 64Bit. Thanks anyway for the wonderful work you are doing.
I'm sorry for my english.
Guys, you have to be more specific than that if you want me to fix problems: @Sampierdarena:
Which animations are jerky? Is this still the case after the 2nd reboot?
Was the 8MP selection available with CM13.1? I think this is a feature of the camera apk..
@josoft86:
What's wrong with the status bar?
Which advanced configuration options are you missing?
I know about the flashlight, this has been a problem already in CM13.1 and I never found a way to fix it properly.
Also there seem to be some issues with the 2nd SIM slot. I sometimes don't get a data connection with the 2nd SIM - the status shows LTE or HSDPA and connected but I don't get an IP address. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the 1st SIM card. Did anybody else witness this problem?
@ottmi
I try to be more precise:
The animations are jerky affect the output from applications. I partially solved with the trim.
The camera: using CameraFV5 you can choose 8 megapixels, I think you're right, the problem is the camera application stock.
The battery with this release has a shorter duration than 10%, I think it is normal with Android 7.1
Thanks again for your work.
@ottmi
perhaps you interpreted my little appropriate proposals, but I did not remotely affect your work but address it on what I thought was perhaps valid for your own product development. I enclose the examples on the configuration and status bar that I used with the Rom RR. Thanks for your work always appreciated and I hope that more and more continuous.
Guys, I'm about to donate my dead elephone trunk if anyone needs it.
it was in great condition but one day it just won't turn on anymore.
it showing charging process once connected to charger, but doesn't react on power button.
case and some other accessories such as spare new back cover can also be donated .
And thanks Ottmi and all other guys for this great rom that extending life of this device!

Can you name an application that shows the video problems?
Regarding the camera: the next ROM will ship with the new Snap app as stock camera that allows for setting the resolution to 7.7MP. I'm not sure thought whether that is native or will be interpolated from 13MP..
I can't really comment on battery life as I'm currently using the phone more intensive than usual and connect it to the computer very often, so the battery will recharge quite often..
@ josoft86:
Since the Ark RR ROM seems to be working fine for you, why don't you just this? I personally have no interest in porting another ROM. I don't even use half the features LineageOS offers on top of stock Android. My focus is on creating a stable ROM and being able to regularly pull upstream security fixes. That being said, all my work is published on my Github account, so anybody who's interested can pick it up and use it as a stepping stone for any other ROM.
New ROM 20170220
There's a new ROM available in the download section. Main improvements are fixing of the disappearing torchlight tile (thanks to the good people working on the Redmi2) and fixing of non-operational mobile data after disconnecting from WiFi. Also, I removed support for ZRAM, LZ4, swap, and F2FS. I don't think we need this (other msm8916 devices are living without it) and removing this brings the kernel closer to the stock kernel and hence improve long-term maintainability. I'm using this now as a daily driver and from my point of view it's quite stable.
EDIT: I messed up the GPS blobs in yesterday's release. There's a new ROM now in the download section that should have workiong GPS. Sorry for the inconvenience..
For those who are interested in details and for documentation purposes: on some msm8916 devices on Android 7, mobile data stops working after disconnecting from WiFi. There a few bug reports on LineageOS's jira on this:
https://jira.lineageos.org/projects/BUGBASH/issues/BUGBASH-72
https://jira.lineageos.org/browse/BUGBASH-129
It seems that netmgrd occasionally crashes and leaves the RIL in an undefined state that doesn't allow for new mobile data connections to be established. The crashes are due to netmgrd freeing non-allocated memory (which jemalloc intercepts and causes the process to abort). As netmgrd is a proprietary Qualcom binary, there is no way to fix this in source. I've tried to use the netmgrd binary from other devices but that didn't help. So I ended up patching the binary and replacing the respective calls to the free function by NOPs. Obviously, this introduced a memory leak and we will have to watch this carefully over time. But at least for now this seems to fix the problem and the memory leak seems to be small.

Maybe it's a silly question, but where is that netmgrd binary from? Would it be possible to use the netmgrd binary from the 32 bits version of Nougat for the google seed?
Meanwhile, my attempts with [email protected] are failing: wifi and ril cannot even start. I will try some change looking at your tree
Sorry for not having tried your rom yet, but I am spoiled with your great CM13

It's the 64bit binary from Crackling. I thought about trying the 32bit netmgrd from Seed, but it has quite a few dependencies in terms of libraries. I would probably have to replace the libraries as well which would mean that the version numbers of the 32bit and 64bit libraries would be different. I'm not sure whether that would contribute towards a more stable ROM
Anyway, the patched version seems to work fine for now. I didn't notice any growth in memory consumption of the netmgrd process, so the leakage is probably small..
New ROM 20170224
There was a problem in the previous ROM with occassional WCNSS subsystem (WiFi) crashes which also caused the BlueTooth stack to crash. Should be fixed now in the new build.
Hi ottmi,
gorgeous work! I just got this device, therefore i did not do excessive testing yet. In comparison to cm-13.0-20160902, the 14.1-20170221 seems to work better (e.g. camera is not crashing). I do have only one question: At least on my device, root can be only set to 'ADB' or 'disabled'. Is this a restriction of LineageOS?
Best Regards,
Jan

LineageOS requires rooting. It can be done in several ways, I chose to use the addon provided by them in the "extras" download section on the LineageOS website.

[Kernel][03.07.2022][Android 12] Kirisakura 2.0.0_S for Asus Rog Phone 3 aka OBIWAN

Kirisakura-Kernel for the Rog Phone 3
Hello everyone,
To keep it short: Here is Kirisakura - Kernel for the Rog Phone 3 aka OBIWAN.
I would appreciate if everybody that flashes the kernel, reads at least once through this opening post and the following ones.
Kirisakura - Kernel is designed to bring a handful of beneficial features to the device, while ensuring excellent performance and smoothness to get you safely through the day!
This project aims to keep most of the subsystems updated, way ahead of the stock kernel, thereby improving security and performance, while keeping stability as the foucs during testing! This includes Linux-Stable, CAF-Upstream and kernel/common.
Kernel Control Flow Integrity (Kernel-CFI), which is achieved by linking the kernel with LLD and Link Time Optimization (LTO), more precisely ThinLTO, are quite unique security features. In fact this, alongside Kirisakura-Kernel for the OnePlus 8 Pro, may be (and probably is) the first 4.19 msm kernel with a fully working Kernel-CFI implementation and CFI-Violations fixed on a smartphone.
The only kernels made by OEMs offering this security feature are the ones for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 devices.
The recently released Kirisakura-Kernel for the OnePlus 8 Pro was featured on the XDA-Portal due to the inclusion of CFI. The featured article explains CFI in great details, is easy to understand and definitely worth to read.
Another security feature is Shadow Call Stack (SCS). Similar to CFI, only the Pixle 3 and 4 Kernel use this security feature.
SCS is another security patchset that is aimed at preventing attacks via return oriented programming (ROP).
ROP is a technique where the attacker gains control of the kernel stack to overwrite function return addresses and redirect execution to carefully selected parts of existing kernel code.
If you´re interested here are a few good links:
Google Security Blog explaining SCS.
LLVM doc about SCS
Android DOCs documenting SCS
If reading about upstream in the paragraph above got you curious, have a read about Linux-Stable and why it is important here. The stable-process is not the same for every subsystem, but the general idea, rule of thumb and benefits are applicable for other subsystems as well.
Quick explanation of CAF-Upstream. CAF is short for Codeaurora-Forums. This is the place where development from Qualcomm for their SoCs happens. This includes the Snapdragon 865/+ that´s built into the different SKUs of the Rog Phone 3.
The kernel-bases available on the Codeaurora-Forums, are basically the foundations OEMs use, to build their own kernel additions on top for devices featuring Qualcomm SoCs.
The Qualcomm developers push regular updates to the bases of the different SoCs, a bit similar to how Linux-Upstream works. OEMs usually stop updating the initial base after the phone is released.
This kernel focuses amongst the other features to provide the latest CAF-Updates merged in a regular manner, to provide updates, improvements and enhancements for SoC specific drivers and subsystems! This might take a while, because a lot of device specific testing is done on my end to ensure stability.
The kernel includes a lot of improvements and contributions from other developers as well. Without this kernel would not exist.
I´d like to mention @tbalden ´s excellent CleanSlate features at this place. They improve usability by a big margin for me personally. The highly customizable sweep to sleep implementation (adjustable to different navigation settings), long tap to bring down status bar (very useful on a big device), backlight dimmer and notification reminder are very useful features that I use personally every day.
Another big part of improvements originate from @arter97´s, @kdrag0n´s and @Sultanxda´s work. Many others contributed in some way or another to this kernel.
A big thanks to all of them at this place!
Now lets continue with a list of features in the next paragraph!

Flashing Guide, Download and Changelog
A description how to flash the kernel, links for download and a changelog can be found in the second post!
Contributors
Freak07
Source Code: https://github.com/freak07/Kirisakura_OBIWAN
Version Information
Status: Stable
Requirements
- unlocked Bootloader
- USB-Debugging in developer options enabled
- latest adb and fastboot binaries
- working adb and fastboot environment
- latest magisk stable root environment
- a backup of boot.img and dtbo.img to be able to restore to stock.
How to flash the Kernel:
1. Download the latest kernel.zip and make sure you have properly updated to the latest matching Asus Stock-Firmware. When the Rog 3 receives an update it takes Asus a while to release the source code for the new OS and me a while to build a new kernel. If you don´t want to face any issues, wait until I either release an updated kernel or give green light because there were no kernel changes.
Always make sure to run the firmware the kernel is built for!
1a. Optional: While it may not be necessary all times, you may want to restore stock boot.img as well as dtbo.img, re-root with magisk and optionally install twrp.zip if coming from another kernel. Before reporting issues make sure you do that! Thank you!
2. Make sure to meet all the requirements listed above.
3. Flash the kernel.zip via latest EXKM or FKM app, or TWRP and do a full reboot.
4. Reboot and profit. Set CleanSlate features as you desire by installing both apps and choose according to your liking.

FAQ
F.A.Q:
Question: Why does the kernel version show as "unavailable" in settings after flashing it.
Answer: Asus does not allow for custom kernel names in their settings. If the kernel string doesn´t fit their regex, it will display as unavailable there. Nothing can be done about it. Use a kernel manager to check the kernel version.
Question: Is root preserved when flashing this kernel?
Answer: Yes, the AnyKernel.zip will detect root and keep it.
Question: How do I return back to stock or another kernel.
Answer: Extract boot.img as well as dtbo.img from matching firmware you are on and flash the extracted boot.img and dtbo.img via fastboot. If you want to keep root flash back the magisk_patched_boot.img. Or dirty flash your rom.
Question: Why is having Magisk installed mandatory for this kernel?
Answer: Android 10s changes to partitions, doesn´t allow files in system/ and vendor/ to be replaced. This kernel is very far from the stock kernel. To account for this I can´t force load the stock kernel-modules for certain drivers as it happens on kernels that are closer to stock.
Instead we use Magisks function to overlay certain files during boot. Without a working Magisk environment the kernel cannot function.
Question: I have a phone that is converted from CN to WW and now there´s a warning from hardwarestub. Can I hide it?
Answer: Yes, I created a Magisk Module for those that want to hide the notification, so nobody needs to rely on paid apps.
The Magisk module can be found attached to this post.
Please note that refresh rate can´t be changed when the module is flashed. To able to change refresh rate or to remove the module, simple remove it in Magisk Manager and do a full reboot. I´ll attach it to the third post on this thread. There will be no support for this module from my side and no other support for converted devices.
Question: How to report bugs properly?
Answer: Have a look at post #3 in the linked thread. The linked guide is a pretty good starting point.
Before reporting any bug make sure you´re running on a stock configuration. That´s means you´re not using any mods, tweaks in kernel managers or other root tweaks , magisk modules, scripts or other modifications that alter various functions like sound mods, data traffic, sleeping behaviour, scheduler, magical battery tweaks etc.
Try to describe the issue as detailed as possible! Give your exact setup, like rom, magisk version, kernel version.
Is the issue reproducible? Does it happen frequently?
Provide logs, otherwise debugging is a lot harder. If you can already reproduce the issue and provide logs it greatly limits the amount of time I have to spent until I figure out how to reproduce it.
If the device force reboots/randomly reboots (that means you see the bootloader unlocked screen!) provide a .zip with the contents of sys/fs/pstore.
If the issue happens while the device is running provide a dmesg plus a logcat that you take while/shortly after the issue happens. This will log what´s running in the current session. Try to be as detailed as possible what´s happening when the issue appears. It will also help me in reading the log!
CleanSlate Features and how to use them
CleanSlate Features and how to use them
This kernels offers its users the possibility to use CleanSlate features. CleanSlate-Kernel is developed by @tbalden.
CleanSlate kernel follows a different approach than Kirisakura-Kernel.
We know each other well over the years now and often have worked together.
For more information about CleanSlate visit @tbaldens CleanSlate thread on the Rog 3 Forums linked here.
The CleanSlate features add a lot of flexibility to a device. That´s why I like to include the features in my kernel.
Notifications Reminder, Flashlight Notifications, Turn Phone to sleep and a very advanced sweep to sleep interface that works well with Android 10 Gestures.
We decided to transform Brightness Dimmer and FPS-Override into CleanSlate accessible features as well.
That allows users to easily control these features with the CleanSlate apps.
CleanSlate features are easily accessible via the CleanSlate Configuration app. The Cleanslate Companion app provides a userspace backend for the kernel and is required for some features.
Make sure to install both of these apps, when flashing my kernel and you want to utilize these features.
The apps ask for some permissions. Enable them and do a full reboot to make sure everything is playing nicely
that´s how the companion app will look after enabling it.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/x6sFJc5cUFT9Q7U47
It´s needed for userspace related features, like double tap swipe area for notification pull down.
Every section of the Configuration App has different settings. Basic, Advanced and Preset. You can click on these buttons to change between them.
Advanced will offer you more customization if available.
See the screenshots here:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/avPsiHHrzPwpMqMC8
To change settings, change them according to your liking and hit the "Save" Button. It is the second from the bottom right and will be greyed out if your settings are currently applied.
As you can see in the following screenshot:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/qaFKfLbfwUuyHW717
Brightness Dimmer is enabled, FPS override is set to 144FPS on low brightness. Power button is blocked in pocket and screen gets disabled when putting the phone face down on a desk.
You should be able to find both apps for free on the CleanSlate thread. However if you benefit from the features, think about getting the premium apps on the playstore to give a little bit back to @tbalden.
I hope this post might help some

U aswell... Both of you keep up the great job
This is amazing, can't wait for the others to try and read their reviews..
just a small heads up before anybody complains.
We, @tbalden and me, just noticed a bug went unnoticed during our previous testing.
If you flashed this kernel or CleanSlate-Kernel, have the CleanSlate config app installed and Backlight dimmer enabled in the CleanSlate Config app. Make sure to keep the screen on for 3-4 minutes after rebooting your phone and the boot process finished.
Otherwise your screen will stay black. Display-Panel driver doesn´t seem to like our mod at the moment.
After keeping the screen on for 3-4 minutes the bug will not be triggered and you can use the phone as you wish.
Sorry for the inconvenience
The issue will soon be resolved in a new update

Also just start the app manually on reboot, as a workaround.
Coming here from your OG Pixel kernel. Is this kernel for 2007.47 or 2007.32?

Nice to see you made the jump! Must be a hell of an upgrade on your side!
the .47 sources are merged. I´m using it on .47 at the moment.
I guess you can just give it a try and check if it boots/works on .32. If you decide to do so, it would be nice if you could report back here. It might help others
Make sure to have a PC with working fastboot environment nearby and a boot.img handy.
In case it doesn´t work, just force the phone to power down by holding power button plus volume down, once it powers off, keep holding power and volume up to boot to bootloader.
Connect to side port and flash your backup boot.img via fastboot. Always make sure to flash the matching boot.img for your firmware.
Hey guys and girls,
Here´s the fix that solves the black screen issue, that occurred when the screen was off while Brightness Dimmer got activated via CleanSlate Config App on boot.
It wasn´t detected immediately, because usually the screen of my device is on when I boot the phone as to check the logs and ensure everything is working
Now everything is working, so just flash the kernel and enjoy I´ll do a post soon, explaining the features a bit more for people unfamiliar with how the CleanSlate features work.
I´d advise everybody to read the instructions in the OP and follow them. They are written for a reason, because they ensure everything will be working as expected.
Kernel is made for the latest stock rom from Asus, you must update your phone to the most recent Asus update, before flashing the kernel.
Enjoy!

If you mean CN to Global ROM, Global has no China bloatware. If you mean 32 to 47, here the changelog from Asus website.
1.Added “Quick launch camera” option in System Settings->Advanced
2.Added “Navigation blocking” feature for Game Genie which disables system gesture operations to avoid accidental touches in games.
3.Improved multi-touch when three or more fingers simultaneously touch the screen in games.
4.Fixed a problem with insensitive multi-finger touch response when playing PUBG

Just to steer this a bit in the right direction. This isn´t directed towards anybody in particular it´s just a general reminder what this thread is about.
There is no need to review the kernel. The kernel offers exactly what is described in the first post of this thread.
My advice is to read the description in the OP. All changes are explained in great detail there. Look around XDA, most OPs are kept way shorter with less explanations.
If you´re not into technical details, use google when descriptions or terms are unclear to you.
This is primarily a development focused thread. That´s why it is in the development section.
If there are issues when using the kernel or its features, provide logs and I will be glad to help you. If there are questions or things unclear, ask and I will try to answer. But I expect people to put in a bit of effort.
If you expect a review like, flashing this kernel causes my phone to use more or less battery as the stock kernel, you may want to re-read the OP on what to expect. I generally don´t like to see this in my threads.
Just to give an example that a "review" will never be applicable to each user:
Everybody uses their phone different. So certain changes to the scheduler may benefit user A, while they don´t benefit user B.
There is no need for a review. Just flash the kernel and try for yourself.
It´s very easy and straightforward to flash the kernel. And it´s also easy to return back to the stock kernel. If you don´t like it describe your problem as detailed as possible, as pictured in the FAQ and I will take a look at it or consider it.
Usually post like: "this kernel reduces my battery life by xyz" will just be ignored
It´s covered in the FAQ how to do all of this.
This is also a general reminder to everyone Let´s keep this thread development related and I hope this will turn out to be a good project!
I´m really looking forward to it. This phone is an absolute beast and so far I really enjoy using it.
For people a bit unfamiliar how everything works I plan to soon post a little guide on how to use the CleanSlate features.
Have a nice day everybody.
Here´s a small tutorial for CleanSlate features:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83387681&postcount=3
Hopefully it will help some, that are not yet familiar with these.
I wish everybody a nice weekend.
Amazing work. Low battery temp while fast charging. Now I can just leave my phone with 30w charger without worry.
Do you have Telegram Channel?
I thought its not working after i flash but suddenly all the features is needed an app CleanState Config/Companion i downloaded it and it works the 144hz in 0 brightness nice2. i will use this kernel as my daily bases.
I turn on the facedown to table to turnoff the screen or vibrate but its not working for me.
Edit: Its working btw there is a 1 sec delay after facedown so far so good.

LineageOS 19.1 for s5neolte (SM-G903F, SM-G903W, and SM-G903M)

This is LineageOS 19.1, which is based on Android 12L, for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo, codenamed s5neolte, with models SM-G903F, SM-G903W, and SM-G903M.
LineageOS doesn't need much of an introduction - It's a well-known custom firmware/Android distribution.
I've picked up with these builds from @Radplay, as the original maintainer who brought up 19.1 for the S5 Neo.
His builds made use of my sources. Very long ago, I was maintaining for my own personal use, did bringup for 19.1, and was planning to start releasing public builds myself. But then my S5 Neo's screen stopped working, so I couldn't continue, and a few bugs I wanted to look into and fix went unfixed. Now that I've got a new screen, I've fixed those bugs, and can now release my own public builds.
Note on LineageOS 19.1/Android 12 usability - For those needing Google apps: Do not use heavy Google apps packages, as otherwise, you WILL have severe performance issues. Instead, use the most minimal variant of your chosen package. For example, for OpenGapps (no longer maintained officially, with no Android 12L packages, so use @ipdev's latest unofficial build available here), that is the pico variant.
Also, make sure to use 32-bit ARM packages, not 64-bit ARM64 ones, since these devices unfortunately don't run 64-bit Android despite being 64-bit capable.
Build download
From 20230625 with security patch level 20230605: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KAvGHhp61zUJMAbnaasxrWnSTM2nNqBD/
Recovery to use
Use my unofficial TWRP build:

Tar for Odin for the AP slot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1guVj-Ghcneu9SR3ff3clLp9170CfJbNT/
This build is built from newer sources than the official TWRP builds and has a kernel built from the same sources as these LineageOS builds, so using it instead of an official one is preferable.
The official 3.7.0 TWRP build apparently might not work, while this is a working 3.7.0 build.
Folder for builds
Along with the current build, it contains a text file with the SHA256 checksum for it, and a folder which will contain some previous builds: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jvNM__De4VASNoYmf8xjDZEMVmYSlr-3
Changelogs
Build for 20230625 (this changelog picks up from @Radplay's last build):
Latest changes from LineageOS, including the 20230605 Android security updates.
Bluetooth calling has been fixed.
Linaro's new SLSI BSP (Board Support Package, containing sources for HWC and some other stuff) sources are now used - Much more up-to-date than the previously used sources, and there's possibly a small improvement in performance.
Fixed an issue where the speaker would be slightly quieter than expected, and there is possibly slightly distorted audio at full volume from the headphone jack while playing media.
RIL blobs updated from Samsung's T515XXU8CVL1 firmware - Fixes an issue where, after enabling airplane mode, "Service status" under "SIM status" in "About phone" in settings wouldn't report "Radio off", meaning the cellular modem might still have been active in some way.
Some miscellaneous cleanups have been done.
Some security patches have been applied to the kernel.
The Wireguard kernel module has been removed from the kernel as it causes kernel panics. The userspace Wireguard implementation remains usable.
Previous releases
None for now.
Known issues and workarounds/fixes (if any)
Issue 1 - No VoLTE support: VoLTE currently can't work on any Samsung devices due to Samsung's proprietary implementation in stock firmwares not working on AOSP.
Issue 2 - Possible low volume and echoing while calling on speakerphone: There may be low mic volume issues and echoing that can be heard by the person you're calling, both while using the speaker.
These issues are supposed to be fixed by some blobs called "Lifevibes". They were added in official LineageOS 18.1 sources, but I decided to get rid of them as they completely destroy audio quality. As a workaround, the earpiece or headphones should be used instead.
If anyone wants them, I could have a way to bring them back as a compromise without including them in my builds, please do ask if so.
Some additional info if anyone is interested:
The lifevibes blobs apply insanely heavy noise gating, to get around the noisiness of this phone's microphones, and also heavily downsamples recorded audio in some way. Both processes result in horrible sounding recorded audio - The downsampling makes it sound lower fidelity than AM radio, and the noise gating is excessive to the point of annoying audible artifacts, and it may also get rid of audio content that can still be made out but is just above the noise floor of the mics. That ruined a mission-critical recording for me. I'd rather just take the noisiness.
Something notable is that with Android 12, encrypted data can't be decrypted in TWRP recovery. That problem can only be fixed within TWRP, but with the fixes only being in Android 12L TWRP sources, which we can't build our TWRP builds from due to issues, it continues to exist.
To report further issues, get a log from logcat and dmesg. If you're unsure on how to get either, there's good documentation out there for how to do so.
Sources
A manifest containing all of the necessary repositories to make builds is in the repository here on branch lineage-19.1.
Thanks to:
The previous maintainers, Stricted and danwood76, for all of the previous work for these devices.
The Lineage team - for the Android distribution itself.
...and everyone else who has worked on anything that is in use, such as device tree changes.
Some extra stuff:
I've now fixed almost all of the remaining fixable issues that I know of after extensive testing, making my build almost bugless. But if anyone does come across issues besides those I've mentioned in my original post, do report them.
For anyone here who was following @Radplay's thread until the end, on the stuff about credit, while it did end up being given very prominently, I think it's worth mentioning that it wasn't such a big deal. I suppose I overreacted somewhat. Everything is fine at the end of the day.
I'm going to try releasing a new build around every month.
Enjoy.
Nice to see this version released, good job
Just installed over the "other" one
Rocking!
did a clean install, twrp and the rom, all seems to be working well.
Thank you!
